Gonerbrau cream ale has been a staple at Gonerfest for several years now, but this will be the first year it’s available in 16 oz cans. This cream ale is so good it lives the remainder of the year as Junt.

OPENING CEREMO NIES Cooper Young Gazebo

Free!

Wednesday, Septem ber 26, 5:30 DM BOB (RACEL AND, LA) Crypt & Voodoo Rhyth m recording artist DM BOB brings distorted Country and Blues sou nds- not too far from the Country Teasers (minus the Fall aspect ) and with a true kna ck for finding great obscure songs to bring into his set. We call it Co untry, but maybe it’s something else... A gre at start to the festivities !

THURSDAY NIGHT

pm Hi Tone 412 N Cleveland St | Doors at 8:00

MC Eric Arm (LOS ANGELES, CA)

Our MVP from last year knows Gonerfest inside and out- he was a spectator for years, and a player last Gonerfest with the great Die Group.

DJ Kevin Nutt

(MONTGOMERY, AL)

WFMU ‘s “Sinner’s Crossroads host brings the raw real revelatory records to GF 15!

BUMMER’S EVE

BENNI

9:00pm Benni (NEW ORLEANS, LA)

It was just a short year ago that Goner gave wide release to the Bênní debut album, I & II, which launched the new sub-genre we now know as “Hi-NRG New Age.” 2018 sees The Return and with it, further inspiration for an entire ’70s sub-genre of gritty crime and science fiction films. Hear it live Thursday night and see which dog videos he has up his shimmering cape-sleeve!

9:45pm Bummer’s Eve (CINCINNATI, OH)

Self-loathing punk fuzz with that “Cincinatti sound,” which we take to mean pop sing-alongs, dark 70’s new wave bass lines, and modern surf punk guitar, all blended through a single phaser pedal. Potent.

10:30pm Aquarian Blood (MEMPHIS, TN)

AQUARIAN BLOOD

Aquarian Blood are Memphis creepy crawlers that blend warbly synth, shrieked vocals, wild guitar and a brute drummer with a heavy dose of bummer cult folk. Beware the paisley grime.

11:15pm Gino & the Goons (TAMPA, FL)

8

GINO & THE GOONS

The last of American party bands... when Gino is done, TURN OUT THE LIGHTS! Actually by then the sun is probably up, so you’ll have to PULL DOWN THE SHADES! Amazing Budget Rock attack Ala Mummies / Supercharger or any of the greats. Just solid catchy rock n roll with a serrated edge.

LYDIA LUNCH RETROVIRUS

12:00am Lydia Lunch Retrovirus (NY, NY)

An underground legend who has plowed her own path - the New York Times called her “the Angriest Woman in Rock” and fans love her for it. Lydia’s been on the forefront of Punk and No Wave and has drove fearlessly into all kinds of bluesy and jazzy mutations of rock guided by her rebellious, idiosyncratic voice. Her band includes Bob Bert (Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore), and Weasel Walter (Flying Luttenbachers, Lake of Dracula, X___X and many more). Retrovirus sets pull songs from throughout Lydia’s career, from Teenage Jesus & The Jerks onward. We can’t wait!

1:00am Harlan T. Bobo (MEMPHIS/FRANCE)

HARLAN T BOBO

Harlan’s new album A History of Violence still highlights Bobo’s whiskey-and-cigaretteinformed vocal style; it’s a distorted ear candy that warbles into increasingly sunken, uncomfortable places. But there is a richer canvas on which to work this time out, not to mention a decidedly heavier and darker one. The album was recorded in Memphis with Doug Easley. The result is a naturally dynamic album that seems equally at home with howling guitars and heavy bass lines as it does with haunting piano and humble pleas. Thursday’s nights show will feature an all-star lineup of Memphis musicians and some familiar faces from Gonerfests past.

CHICKEN SNAKE

4:00pm Chicken Snake (NEW ORLEANS, LA)

True voodoo power from ex-Honeymoon Killers Jerry Teel’s excellent fuzzed-out swamp blues, similar to a Gibson Bros, Bassholes kinda aura, thankfully avoiding traditional blues cliches in search of actual lowdown power.

5:00pm Trouble Boys (AUSTIN, TX)

Killer glamified Street Rockin punk rock with rad top rope moves. Slam-o-rama!

SONGWRITER SHOWCASE

GREG CARTWRIGHT

Greg Cartwright (ASHEVILLE, NC) Gentleman Jesse (ATLANTA, GA) Louie Bankston (HARAHAN, LA) Harlan T Bobo (MEMPHIS/FRANCE)

GENTLEMAN JESSE

Memphis’ proud son returns for another exciting solo set - Greg knows a million songs and has written most of the best of ‘em. Reigning Sound, Oblivians, Parting Gifts, Compulsive Gamblers, and solo - Greg always delivers. We are so happy to have him on board once again. Jesse Smith is well known for his work in the Carbonas, Gentleman Jesse, and other Atlanta musical outfits. Now mostly a successful restauranteur, this is a rare opportunity to hear his songs up close and personal. We believe King Louie Bankston has been on the bill at every Gonerfest. We can’t really remember him not being around. From Punk Rock to Country to 38 Specialstyle AOR rockers, Louie can do it all.

KING LOUIE BANKSTON

Harlan T Bobo is doing shows on a brief stay in the US- his dark humor shines through his intense songs in a solo setting much differently than when he performs with a band. “Harlan T Bobo! I love that guy!” - Timmy Vulgar

MC Helen (MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA)

9:00pm Ten High (FAYETTEVILLE, AR)

An unstoppable ball of energy, seen pinging around Melbourne and around the world for years now. Helen knows how to have a good time, and she will insist that you do, too- and you will, if she has to drag you into that good time kicking and screaming and drinking more than you really oughta.

Young Arkansasian combo who are unafraid to turn up ala 90s noise rock from Minneapolis. Many burly Killdozer aficionados from New Zealand are fans after seeing their set at Gonerfest last year. And that’s a good thing. Touring has made them a formidable bulldozer of sound!

DJ Tom Lax (PHILADELPHIA, PA)

9:45pm Cobra Man (LOS ANGELES, CA)

Siltbreeze label honcho with extremely rare, extremely weird records that sound quite perfect when he plays them. Crucial selections.

This L.A. power disco duo blends the essence of classic disco funk, the raw power of warehouse punk, and the supernatural qualities of their favorite slasher films to create something unique. Their latest, TOXIC PLANET--released alongside the full length video from the Worble skate collective-brings sounds both mysterious and obscure into the late Friday night purple light on a smoke filled Hi Tone dance floor.

10:30pm En Attendant Ana

TEN HIGH

(PARIS, FRANCE)

Jangly, fuzzy, and deliciously melodic French pop with some indie flavor. Good stuff to bop to. The musical equivalent of french toast with butter and cinnamon, or french fries that are nice and crispy but not too crispy, or a delicious french dip sandwich with thinlysliced beef and rich au jus. Get their new album, Lost And Found, out now on Trouble In Mind! COBRA MAN

12

EN ATTENDANT ANA

11:15pm Surfbort (NY, NY)

Their listed genre on Facebook: “FREAK MUSIC.” Their sound is drunk, sweaty, and hairy. Like a claustrophobic baboon breaking out of its cage and starting a riot alongside the other mammals against those who taunt them with their overdeveloped gluteus maximi. In other words- get ready to party.

SURFBORT

SICK THOUGHTS

OBLIVIANS WITH STEPHANIE MCDEE

12:00am Sick Thoughts (HELSINKI/NEW ORLEANS)

If you don’t know Sick Thoughts, you don’t know punk. Drew Owen’s brand of aural early20s angst, with doses of Zero Boys, Reatards, and early Crüe, mixed with the stench of the streets, has never sounded better. The upcoming self-titled LP clearly puts Sick Thoughts on top of the punk heap. It’s Drew Owen’s world—get in it!

Oblivians

(MEMPHIS, TN)

1:00am with Stephanie McDee

(NEW ORLEANS, LA)

Memphis “Garage Punk” legends who have gone onto various other projects yet still come together in a unique asskicking combo, untouched by others anywhere. Raw blasts that might have started from an urge to emulate Glenn Danzig, Johnny Ramone, or the Pagans but quickly swallowed and regurgitated new wave, Delta Blues, Gospel, and Soul sounds Oblivians style. They’ll be joined for part of the set by the Zydeco Queen - Miss Stephanie McDee, whose hit “Call The Police” Oblivians covered on their Desperation lp. Never heard a punk rockin’ zydeco band? Hold on to your washboard! You’re in for a treat.

Memphis Clouds (MEMPHIS, TN)

A pipedream of Zac & Madison’s for years now, this band is finally, actually, really happening! We wrangled Robby Grant (>mancontrol<), Joe T (TSOT), and Charms (nots, hash redactor) into a homage to our favorite obscure 80s Scottish teenage jingle janglers. OUTSIDE

1:00pm

Blaha (MINNEAPOLIS, MN)

Blaha is the solo project of Mike Blaha from freak-punks The Blind Shake. Known for intense live shows, cinematic instrumentals, and catchy garage-psych songs, they have toured throughout the US and Europe. New album The Long Arm of the Photo Booth out now!

1:30pm Datenight (NASHVILLE, TN) INSIDE

Recent high school graduates who spend their free time at the only spot in Nashville still worth hanging--the Circle K! Third Man says, “Their manner of smearing punk music with extra distortion and a dollop of pop, in the vein of Toy Love, Descendents, and the Oblivians, is incredibly contagious and just fun to see live.” Agreed!

(OMAHA, NE)

Free-minded cranked and cracked guitarist who can flit between Crazy Horse-ish jams and Arto Lindsayish no-wave chops, glorious product of midwestern space / ennui leading to DIY genius. A true original, you soon will be dancing wholeheartedly to his Negative Boogie! New Peaced and Slightly Pulverized lp on Trouble In Mind. “POSSIBLY THE BEST SONGWRITER IN THE UNITED STATES THAT NOBODY OUTSIDE DIY TAPE COLLECTORS AND HIS FRIENDS HAS HEARD.” -NOISEY

INSIDE 2:30pm

Vile Bodies (NEW ORLEANS, LA)

Cowpunk and X perfectly nestled in the palm of New Orleans DIY, shaken up and tossed into the fire of American music. The resulting smoke being a dense cloud of swampish, impassioned, and tight rock and roll whose soul is entirely palpable.

Los Angeles punk / post punk with a linear rant & roll approach that pulls in all kinds of UK DIY / Tyvekian references without sounding a whole lot like anyone. Maybe all the driving in Los Angeles produced such a propulsive yet still perfectly fractured sound. INSIDE 3:30pm

Pscience (NEW ORLEANS, LA)

PSCIENCE is hot right now. They were recently named one of Forbes “40 Bands With Under 40 Members.” Their sonic contributions to the marketplace of ideas excel in excellence. The best of art and technology are synergistically integrated in their forward thinking sounds. PSCIENCE is the musical brand to watch at Gonerfest.

Negro Terror (MEMPHIS, TN)

Memphis hardcore! Coming at you fast and hard like a cannonball, slamming like a sledgehammer, and aggressive like a pissedoff buffalo in heat. Run for your lives! The terror is real. Street level assault.

4:30pm Drunks With Guns (ST LOUIS, MO) INSIDE

St Louis sludge rockers who put out a series of classic chaotic no-hope singles and an lp which had a photo of the band famously reclining in a basement full of beer cans. The future’s bleak- ain’t it neat? Yeah! What should have been a fade to an anonymous past has been foiled by a curious new generation, digging up great obscure bands from all bygone eras and styles. So we bring you the 2018 version of Drunks With Guns. “Quality St. Louis sludge since 1984.” Stand back! DRUNKS WITH GUNS

DJ Le’roy

(MEMPHIS, TN)

Garage pop power trio from Ireland. Delightfully noisy and raw, delightfully catchy, and perfect to get the Saturday night rolling!

9:45pm Amyl & the Sniffers

(MELBOURNE)

Aussie punks on the rise! Fresh off of opening King Gizzard’s 2018 North American tour and appearing on festivals all over the place, they are lighting the world on fire with their brand of sharpie-flavored pub-punk. Perhaps the most exciting new band at the fest, judging by recent response. We are excited to have them start their first North American headlining tour here at Gonerfest!

AMYL & THE SNIFFERS

NOTS

10:30pm Nots (MEMPHIS, TN)

Memphis synth/guitar squiggle punkers have been brewing some intense new tunes and incorporating new sounds in advance of upcoming Goner lp. Notorious for their wild shows. Nots rock!

NIGHT SATURDAY pm St | Doors at 8:00 eland

Hi Tone 412 N Clev

11:15pm Neckbones (OXFORD, MS)

NECKBONES

DEAF WISH

The rock kings of Oxford, MS. Neckbones never got their due back in the day because of their overabundance of talent - both guitarists Tyler Keith and Dave Boyer and drummer Forrest Hewes could write great songs and sing them, so there was no “frontman” to get all the attention. The Neckbones languished while lesser bands like the Replacements, Uncle Tupelo, and Dinosaur Jr achieved the level of acclaim truly due Tyler and the gang. The first rock band signed to Blues label Fat Possum. We are very excited to invite them to Gonerfest to blow your heads off.

12:00am Deaf Wish (MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA)

The new Deaf Wish album Litihium Zion (Sub Pop) proves the Melbournians’ massive, swirling guitar noise and pop still has the wallop to flatten your head like an Aussie Rules fullback’s crunching tackle. Guitarists Jensen Tjhung and Sarah Hardiman are both icons in the hard-living, hard-rocking underground Melbourne scene, home to some of the greatest bands on Earth. A vital, explosive band.

1:00am Carbonas (ATLANTA, GA)

20

CARBONAS

Fast, tight, irresistibly tuneful, and incredibly prolific, Atlanta’s Carbonas took America by storm in the mid-2000s with a slew of catchy singles and hit-laden albums. The group dragged into its orbit some of the best and brightest of Atlanta’s burgeoning punk scene, launching careers and developing a rabid fan following (and inspiring at least five tattoos). At the height of their popularity, the Carbonas disbanded, leaving the masses clamoring for more material. Saturday night marks their mighty return - one night only performing all their hits (and misses)! Truly an amazing band. Don’t miss ‘em!

There is no greater a recommendation we could give. Blue Monkey 2012 MADISON AVE.

Fair prices, and better-than-average pub grub. Pleasantly dark and clad with ornamental woodworks, the Monkey has some of the most attentive staff in the Midtown bar scene.

Pay a visit to the shamrock sometime before or after the Saturday day show.

Dru’s Place (LGBTQ)

DKDC/Beauty Shop

Dru’s isn’t just a bar, it’s YOUR bar. Don’t let the beer only option stop you, this spot has a cork fee for any bottle you’d care to grab from the liquor store. Drag queens, pool, karaoke, pizza, and a large patio. Where can you go wrong?

964 AND 966 S. COOPER

Bars for those wanting a little bit more than a bathroom with gnats and beer. Cocktails, amazing food, and amazing staff. Beauty Shop holds down the fort for the best beautyparlor-turned-restaurant in town.

Slider Inn 2117 PEABODY

Best deck in Midtown? This is a no frills get drunk and/or grub up spot with killer food and great staff. The massive deck is perfect for early Autumn nights.

1474 MADISON AVE,

Alex’s Tavern 1445 JACKSON AVE.

One of Memphis only super late-night spots, Alex’s doesn’t get poppin’ until 3AM. Two jukebox’s, shuffleboard, and amazing bar food. Get the Greek Burger. DOWNTOWN

Railgarten

Absinthe Room

New joint frequently nicknamed Kindergarten for the amount of kids running around… family-friendly sprawling compound with live music, playground, ping pong court, ice cream counter, restaurants, beach volleyball and booze. Did I mention ping pong?

If you do hit Beale Street, we suggest this gem of a bar that was once Hooks Brothers Photography Studio. Absinthe, pool, creeky old floors,. Having served the Memphis African-American Community for the better part of a century, Hooks Brothers used this former studio to document civil rights leaders, prominent local figures, and musicians…. including Robert Johnson.

2166 CENTRAL AVE

P&H Cafe

1532 MADISON AVE.

Beer only dive walkways from Murphy’s, but huge. Have a large crew with you? Want to play pool? Care for a burger stuffed with capers and feta? Go here and get down.

Pumping Station (LGBTQ) 1382 POPLAR AVE.

Slip into the Pump for a completely different night time vibe. Two bars and nice patio.

162 BEALE ST.

Ernestine and Hazel’s 531 S. MAIN ST.

Right by the train station, this ex-brothel encapsulates Memphis perfectly. Beer only, great burgers, and two stories with multiple rooms to chill in….it is hard to find a more “Memphis” bar.
