s you receive your September edition of New Zealand’s gonatural magazine, the remains of our extraordinary wet and cold winter will be starting to fade, as we herald in Spring and prepare for warmer months ahead. Many of our readers have corresponded from warmer climates as they find an excuse to abandon our cooler months to languish on a tropical beach or an inviting European riverside al naturale. Our gonatural facebook page is very active, with daily postings and discussions that engage and keep you informed from across the globe. Not a week goes by where readers and our online social media community share their stories, adventures and conversations to embrace the naturist lifestyle. Please come and participate. In this issue there’s a great variety of reading. You’ll find some wonderful photography from talented Aucklander, Jeff Norman, who specialises in black and white female nudes. Jeff’s conversation is really enlightening and might inspire you to take some nude photos. I also had the joy of meeting the endearing Bruce and Marguerite Wilson who shared the life story, and their journey with naturism together. If you want to be inspired, or just envious, this is a story for you. Kiwi icon Karyn Hay shares some special burlesque photos and words from her new book, The March of the Floxgloves. Michalis from Greece tells us about his urban nudity escapades and why he ventures into places most would never dream. My friend Marina who featured in September 2016’s edition, returns again with more wise and inspiring words. There’s photos from mid-winter dips across the country... how did you celebrate the winter solstice? Now that WInter is behind us, Spring is sprung, I can feel Summer knocking at the door! THANK YOU to all the FUNtastic people who make its content so interesting and to those that put so much time & effort into its publication. Its an interesting world we live a world of instant gratification and response required due mainly to the pressures of modern life and the technology that goes with it. Maybe naturist clubs could be marketed on not only as being a clothes free haven but technology as well! Not only leave you clothes at the door but phones, iPads and the like also! I hope you get plenty of Solstice submissions - I managed to get out to the beach near Pukehina to welcome the Solstice sun on the way to work. It was a glorious morning. - David Baric, Tauranga I certainly sleep naked most nights although my lady prefers my t shirts although we had a Japanese girl home stay student last year and sleepy old me got out bed 6 o’clock in the morning and wandered down to the kitchen and oops, young Japanese girl surprised and delighted to see a nude male! Thereafter she laughingly called me Mr Nude. She did visit a nude beach with us. - Dave Melville, Auckland The naked bike ride in Takaka is disgusting. People’s privates uncovered in public, it’s disgusting. The human body isn’t disgusting, being naked in public is. I’m not hating, I’m just stating my opinion. If you want your children to grow up around that kinda thing that’s fine but what I am saying is it is a bit inappropriate to be doing in public. If I had a child and we were out in public and I seen a bunch of naked people bike past, I would definitely be offended and would complain. There are naked communities for that kind of thing. Why bring it into another community? It is indecent exposure, which is illegal. - Victor Moore, Hokitika [Victor, being naked in a public space, isn’t illegal in New Zealand, the law is tested around the ‘intent to offend’ and for genuine nudists and naturists, they never have such an intention. You of course, might be offended however, but that is for you to ask yourself why, not for the law to determine. -Ed]
It’s interesting that religious frescos and paintings and biblical sketches would show NO nipples on either sex! Wonder why? I don’t know why but I’ve never seen it as I’m in South Africa and it’s not allowed being naked in the open or on TV is a sin in my country or they blur the pics. I subscribe to UK’s H&E and recently Australian’s TAN magazine, however love gonatural that although smaller in size, makes up for it in content. Also, it has to be said that your cover photos (the March and June 2017 ones especially) are outstanding. The families featured and their stories were very honest and compelling. The nautical story was inspirational and the photography was amazing! Keep up the good work. - Sally and Brian Welford, Berhamphore I found your magazine last year through a friend who belongs to the club in Auckland. So recently, with my partner, decided to act on our thoughts to visit a nude beach (on the East coast on the North Island). We thought we’d go there at this time of year because it would not be very populated, however it was a quite pleasant day. We really loved the experience and I can encourage others who might have thought about stripping off, how amazing it feels.
