The benefits of naturism are wide and varied, from health benefits to therapy; from getting close to nature and the simple pleasures of pure freedom...let us show you how you and your body can benefit from the lifestyle that is nude recreation - or naturism. It’s good for your health. Measured sun exposure and vitamin D is very good for you. Naturism is more about doing normal, everyday activities, without the encumbrance of clothing and helps in prevention of many diseases from rickets to some forms of cancer (including melanoma), arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, asthma and cardiovascular disease. Mental health - Being naked outdoors on a sunny day isn’t sexual, but it is sensual – a delight to your senses. From the editor Stewart Ransom edited New Zealand’s first national naturist magazine 60 years ago. ‘From the tiny acorn grows the Michael Moore mighty oak,’ he wrote in May 1956. “It is not intended to be pretentious or ambitious at this stage and hence these pages are purposely brief. The Minister of Justice and his Department is not prepared to accept nudist magazines because many of the illustrations are not a true representation of our activities. We cannot argue with this point of view and our hands are tied to a large extent until this situation is improved. While we have proposals to endeavour to combat this position, the important step is to completely eliminate the offending type of illustration.” We’ve come a long way since those conservative days and New Zealand now embraces one of the most progressive and accepting social environments in the world. We should celebrate this, as we generally enjoy an intelligent legal interoperation of public nudity in our law and more than often, when there was no intention to offend, the legal system has supported naturists and their right to be naked. Nevertheless, there are still some who want to equate healthy natural nudity with unrelated, even illegal behaviour, and this needs the challenging and education via the media. I have dedicated some space in this edition to our media and the important role they can play in advancing our lives. Every naturist needs to help in this cause. It’s only when we stand up to bigotry, misinformation and intolerance, that we all become a better and more respectful society for us all, no matter our colour, status, job, creed, sexuality, or age.

editor@gonatural.co.nz I really liked the positive story from Ashley Kaidel about breastfeeding mothers [Dec 2015], protected under federal law in the USA. This is also protected here in NZ under our law and maybe some don’t know this. It was such a refreshing read to see this in a mainstream naturist magazine. Great stuff! - Sarah-Jane Bishop, Northland I came across gonatural at a NZ naturist resort. Really enjoy your honest open approach, perspectives, connection with current events and trends, and especially your article on the decline in nudity. We sailed to New Zealand this year from the USA and were delighted to finally arrive someplace where nudism isn’t a huge cultural taboo, as it is in most of the South Pacific. We’re enjoying New Zealand’s naturist beaches and sun clubs, though they are often empty and typically challenging to visit in terms of finding them, connecting with someone to get gate pass info. The Fiji article neglected to mention that the culture there generally does not welcome nudism. Bare Necessities cruise must have worked hard to streamline their passenger’s visit. We are planning on sailing to Fiji this April and regret we will likely only be able skinny dip if we’re sure no locals will see us do so. Welcome to your new role. It is an excellent read, well done. You have set a path which I think is definitely the way to go to advance the naturist movement. [Dec 2015]. The Dec 1974 cover featured an adult with four kids. This was the first issue not to feature a female on the cover, with John Gilmour as editor. Sales for this particular issue dropped so dramatically that he was forced to sack himself as editor. This was also the first issue on sale in Australia after Customs had finally admitted uncensored versions
of Playboy and Penthouse, so how much of sales drop was due just to the lack of [an] attractive female on the cover is still a bit uncertain. However, the general consensus is - no female on the cover; not so many public sales! - John Lowe, Hastings [NB: Dec 1974 features a mum with her children. Several previous issues have had a male of the cover, including our infamous naked cyclist Nick Lowe, June 2009 (see next page). -Ed ] I found [the magazine] interesting in many places. I did like the historical glimpse on page 31. You are a tourism magazine too you seem to be working it, but I would work it more. - David Herkt, Auckland Just received my December issue of GoNatural. What a great issue! You have done a great job with the design. Love the design consistency with the headings and pull-quotes and I like all the small snippet articles and news dotted through the mag. I also like all the items gathered from the media and social media that help to promote and normalise naturism. This photo belongs to us as owners of Skinny Dip Tours as does any other photo taken on any of our tours. Whilst this photo may have been previously used in an article regarding our tour group staying at Southern Naturally, is does not give you or any other magazine the right to reproduce it with out our prior permission. - Rod and Ruth Pegg, Skinny Dip Tours. This was simple error with the change over. -Ed.] I love the new look and in-depth articles this surely sets new international standards in naturist journalism.
