Nomad Art Gallery now in Avenel After 15 years as an innovative art gallery in Darwin - Nomad Art Collections has now opened in Avenel.

Nomad Art specialise in limited edition prints and textiles from remote Australian art centres.

The gallery represents First Nations artists from around 30 Aboriginal Art Centres from regional and remote Australia, including the the Kimberly Ranges, central and western deserts, Tiwi Islands, Top End and Arnhem Land.

Nomad Art operates as an online gallery, and is also open by appointment in Avenel for individuals or small groups who wish to view the collection or purchase high quality limited edition Australian art.

A recent innovation for Nomad Art is the establishment of a studio workshop in Avenel, where Directors Angus and Rose Cameron host visiting artists and facilitate art workshops.

Go Skate Update The Go Skate Nagambie winter festival will operate over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend on June 11th and 12th, from 11am - 4pm.

The much anticipated skating rink is a synthetic surface providing a skating experience with inflatable surrounds. The set up comes complete with skates, helmets, and penguin trolleys for the smaller children and experts to fit the skates and give instruction.

There are plenty of opportunities to take part in the ice skating with a booking system established to enable locals and visitors to join in on the fun. Bookings are open for 20 minute time slots.

Euroa Community Cinema grand re-opening After months of undergoing refurbishments, the historical Euroa Community Cinema will re- open to the public with a special event planned to celebrate the occasion.

The cinema closed last year during a time when Victoria was experiencing ongoing restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was the perfect chance to give the historical building a facelift. The refurbishments included sanding and polishing the timber flooring, new seating was installed with the historical seating remaining in the front section, the walls were painted, and the curtains were cleaned.

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Laura Binks said it was exciting that the refurbishments could now be shared with the community.

“We are so excited to host our grand re-opening of the cinema this month after much anticipation,” Cr Binks said.

“The cinema is such a special part of our community and is a fantastic way to spend your weekend.

“We will be screening the film Downton Abbey: A New Era (PG) which will be a fantastic event; tickets are free for this amazing re-opening weekend so get in fast before you miss out!”

Another fantastic part of the screenings will be the previews beforehand where short films will be played. These films were created by locals who participated in the Smartphone Stories Workshop last year.

"The Smartphone Stories project is a two-year travelling workshop series, visiting 24 locations across Victoria and empowering people to tell own stories using smartphones,” Cr Binks said.

The project is supported by the VicHealth Everyday Creative Partnerships program with Strathbogie Shire Council, presented by Cinespace in partnership with City of Port Phillip. Additional funding during the COVID-19 pandemic was received from the Australia Council for the Arts.

A group of dedicated community members volunteer their time to screen movies as projectionists and operating the kiosk and ticket box.

The Euroa Community Cinema is a beloved venue within the Strathbogie Shire community, bringing the nostalgic feeling of going to the cinema closeto-home.

The venue is full of history and has a charm that is rare. Many community members have fond memories of seeing films and attending events at the venue over the years.

Not only will there be skating but there will be Virtual Reality. The Virtual Reality experience is flight motion that takes you on a journey over the Swiss Alps. Competitors will test their skill to see how many hoops they can fly through.

The set up comes with a specially designed flying platform and a 43” display screen that mirrors what the participant is seeing. A leaderboard will run across the two days, with the winner being crowned the Champion of Flight 2022.

If skating’s not your thing, you can sit back in the beautifully styled marquee, complete with fireplace backdrop, couches to lounge on, festoon lighting and ornamental trees.

A mirror photo booth will add an element of fun for all ages with the touch screen giving the ability to customise the photos with colourful animations. The Mirror takes you beyond the traditional “photo booth” experience, while still incorporating all the classic photobooth elements.

The photos can be sent to your phone for you to share to social contacts. The Mirror has some amazing features from multiple signature, multiple texting and email. The animations are great and you will love all the features.

The Strathbogie Shire DJ trailer will be onsite providing both live and DJ sets over the weekend.

Little Athletics

Coming to Nagambie The motto of Little Athletics Australia is family, fun and fitness. Emphasis is placed on participation, personal improvement, family and community involvement.

Across Australia, more than 100,000 girls and boys enjoy the activities of Little Athletics. Little Athletics is the “Foundation for all Sports”.

All sports use the skills developed at Little Athletics.

In Nagambie an opportunity was realised when a number of local families had mentioned they would like their kids to take part in Little Athletics but didn't want to travel to another activity outside

of the township.

The Community Voice caught up with Louise Roberts to see what response she had received from the community in regards to setting up a Nagambie based Little Athletics Club.

“Little Aths is such a great fun sport and provides kids the opportunity to learn fundamental motor skills and create a pathway to a healthy lifestyle,” said local parent, and member of the little athletics Nagambie Louise Roberts.

“The initial season will be run on a modified program basis to ensure that we can focus on a strong Committee leadership team and build a volunteer group for each week to ensure the club has a long vitality for many more seasons,” said Louise.

“The events that we won't be able to run at this

stage are discus and Javelin, however we will aim to provide a coaching clinic for these activities during the season,” said Louise.

AGM 1st June – MacKillop Hall at St Joseph's School, Nagambie.

The group have set up a Nagambie Little Athletics Facebook page and already have 125 people currently showing an interest in being part of the club.

We encourage everyone that is interested in signing their children up to please attend the meeting. Our first AGM will be held 1st June at Mackillop Hall at 6pm.

There is plenty of work to do and the club will be looking for volunteers. Coaching courses will be organised through Victorian Little Athletics for interested parents and volunteers.

“We will need help with track marking, age group chauffeurs, event coaching and we will require assistance to build 2 long jump/triple jump pits,” said Louise.

If you would like to be on the committee and have a say in how the club is run please come along.

We can only get this club up and running for our kids if we have lots of parent support.

The group is considering Age groups from 5 to 16 but that will depend on how much interest they receive from the older kids.

Our aim is to be more respectful and to begin to recognise the significance of the day to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.

Climate Change Action Plan: Have your say

Council has partnered with community groups to deliver celebrations on January 26 for many years. These celebrations usually include a community gathering, barbeques, local performance and often community awards.

Since becoming the 100th Council in Australia to declare a Climate Emergency in 2021 and just the third to pass this Notice of Motion unanimously, we have been working with our community to develop a Climate Change Action Plan.

However, January 26 is a difficult day for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The anniversary of this day marks the start of the dispossession and marginalisation of First Nations people.

We’re excited to our Draft Plan – which sets our mitigation, adaptation and resilience actions - is now open for public feedback.

Calls to shift the date of Australia Day have gained significant momentum over past years with the wider community growing increasingly aware that it is a day that many First Nations people find difficult or even offensive.

At Strathbogie Shire Council’s May Council Meeting, Council resolved to undertake community consultation on two different options relating to Council’s role on January 26.

Council’s corporate branding We can see there is some confusion in our community about the corporate brand adopted at Council’s May meeting.

It’s an update, refresh or renewal of our current brand. You’ll see us stop using the boxes and instead using a stronger style font that better represents the rivers and ranges of Strathbogie Shire. It has been produced in house.

The $60,000 in the current budget is for updated town entry signage, not branding, and would have been spent to upgrade signage with either corporate logo.

It does not replace the VC signage, or the beautiful community signage you see throughout our municipality.

Honouring our local heroes On the 16th of May, close to forty volunteers met up at the Community House to celebrate the start of National Volunteer Week.

The theme for this year’s volunteer celebration was “Better together”. The Community House wanted to seize the opportunity to officially thank the great amount of local volunteers who daily serve our town in different capacities. On the morning of the event, scones with jam and cream were served and a volunteer slide-show presented, featuring 52 different groups and people from Nagambie and surrounds.

The Morning tea at the Community House also included a very appreciated speech from councillor Reg Dickinson who is a member of the Community House and leader of the GoMen group.

The idea to honour and thank local volunteers started over a year ago when NLCH President Edna James and coordinator Anna Close started talking about how many incredible, kind and generous people serve the community in different capacities. “We knew we wanted to do something to thank them, but weren’t sure how”, coordinator Anna Close explains. The Community House took the initiative to contact as many different groups in town as they could think of, asking if anyone had any ideas of how the week could be highlighted. “Jeanette Murray, leader of the Community House Welcome Group, got in touch. Her fabulous idea turned into a celebratory slide-show featuring both sports clubs, organisations, groups, and individuals who in one way or another volunteer in our region.

“I believe many people were quite moved when they first saw the slides”, coordinator Anna Close said. It showcased a wide range of locals, quite a few who serve beyond any limelight or official recognition. They mow grass, knit trauma bears or raise funds for various different causes, simply because they believe it’s the right thing to do. I for one could hardly keep my tears back.”

Coordinator Anna Close continued to explain how it’s always risky trying to name and recognise groups and individuals. “You try and do your best reaching as many people as possible, asking for photos to be featured, but it’s inevitable that you

Author Biography Cathy Koning likes to re-invent herself. She briefly worked as a secondary school teacher after graduating with an arts degree from Latrobe University. As a theatre production photographer she toured Europe with Nigel Triffitt's Momma's Little Horror Show and captured many live shows at the Last Laugh Theatre Restaurant in Melbourne. After many years as a publicist she founded a successful gardening business and then ran a Sustainable Communities Program for two rural shires. Everything changed in 2012 with a leukaemia diagnosis. During her long recovery Cathy turned her hand to writing and Dainty Diva, the first biography of Dorothy Rudder, a Sydney soprano and vaudeville artist, was the outcome.

After a couple of years of closure the St Andrew’s Nagambie Presbyterian church is to open again for services.

Forest Cemetery now telling an old story Contributed by Alan McLean “My great grandfather John Lewis was a real identity around Whroo, not just in connection with the big Balaclava mine but with many community activities including this cemetery, 150 years ago.” So said Professor Miles Lewis on Sunday, at the unveiling of a new information board for visitors to the old burial ground at Whroo, in the heart of the Rushworth forest.

Many of those attending are direct descendants of people buried at Whroo as far back as 1860, when the land, already used for early goldfield burials, was officially gazetted for cemetery purposes.

Prof. Lewis and his wife Mary were special guests of the Whroo Cemetery Trust, and the acclaimed architect, academic and historian unveiled the new feature of the district’s goldfields heritage.

The Trust mission is to maintain the now-closed cemetery at its best, to show maximum respect for those buried at Whroo, and Trust members appreciated a number of spontaneous donations made towards that objective.

“My great grandfather provided patron services to the Mechanics Institute, the local church where his family had their own front pew, and to the cemetery as an early trustee and donor. While all this was happening he made, then lost, a fortune in co-ownership of the Balaclava mine,” Prof. Lewis added. Co-owner Archibald Menzies used his share of that fortune to fund the building of Menzies Hotel, a showpiece in central Melbourne, but demolished many years ago.

Christine Borger, a board member of Rushworth and District Community Bank, spoke of her own family connection to the district spanning five generations, with several engaged in the search for gold. “The bank has been very pleased to provide some grant funding as our contribution to district heritage,” Christine told the gathering.

Others commended for their help with the project included Ted and Wally Jones, timber craftsmen of Rushworth, Karl Devlin, signwriter of Stanhope, Cass Alexander of Rushworth, who enhanced some old photos included on the board, Robbie Colliver of Rushworth for his posthole-digging assistance, together with Des Mason of Kirwans Bridge and Peter Hower of Nagambie who were active with Trust members in the erection of the new facility.

Ballarat t urns it on at 2022 Aust ralian Mast ers Row ing Cham pionships Well it took a day and a half of racing, but the Weather-Gods began to shine on Ballarat?s Lake Wendoree, for the running of the 2022 Australian Masters Rowing Championships. Excellent conditions and racing, greeted the athletes and spectators, over the four days, from Thursday 19th to Sunday 22nd May, inclusively. Nearly 800 rowers competed in 355 events, to make for an hectic and exciting few days of competition.

Nagambie was well represented across the regatta, with some mixed results. We did ?greet the Judge?on a number of occasions though and bought home some ?booty?in the form of medals.

Unfortunately our Club Captain, Suzan Andrews was out of action, due to recovering from a medical issue, but she did attend on a couple of days to encourage club members and keep in touch with the rowing world. It?s not all grunt and sweat as you can see below, with Sue and triple Olympian, triple World Champion, Jane Robinson, enjoying the sunshine and a rather early picnic, lakeside. The sun is over the yard-arm, somewhere in the world!

Representing Nagambie RC were, in no particular order: Wendy Cotter, Heather Bradbury, Deb Dudley, Katelyn Johnson, Andy Horsburgh, John Strapps, Leigh McIntyre and Dave Andrews. When not racing, Nagambie members also volunteered their services to the organisers, to help with the running of the regatta. Heather Bradbury showed her hidden talents, by filming the races for the ?live?streaming of the event, which was displayed in the hospitality tent and on-line, for those off-course.

Like any gathering of like-minded people, it is a great opportunity to re-aquaint with old friends and foes, and catch-up on all the news. You are sick of hearing it, but it is nice to get somewhere back to normal,

after a couple of tough years. Masters sports are interesting, in that you ideally race in your age group, a five year bracket.

Your age doesn?t matter per sae, but being early in your bracket puts a bit of youth on your side. For example, if you are 50 years old in the current year, you can row as a D-grader, 50 to 54 years, against athletes who may be older in that category. While that gives you and age advantage, it unfortunately doesn?t give you a skill advantage, and you can find yourself against quality athletes. To birthday later in the year is the dream, as you are in the higher age category, but effectively under-age. December babies are laughing.

Now I?m a 100% Nagambie, however Ballarat put its best foot forward, while we were there, and the iced windscreens soon thawed and brilliant sunshine was the order of the day. If you know your Olympic history, you would know that the 1956 Olympic rowing was conducted on the Lake. An impressive momento of those Olympics features at the end of the 2k course, where the Olympic Rings and cauldron are. Reading the base of the ?ring?tower, I saw a familiar name on the athletes plaque. Some of you will know or know of, Mr Neville Howell OAM, who has called Nagambie his home for nearly 10 years. He in fact, as stroke of the Australian eight, rowed into third place and a bronze medal at the games. There are plenty of other impressive accolades I could place on Neville, however it was great to see his name and be enjoying, some 66 years later, the same venue he also enjoyed back in 1956.

Now the Masters rowing season is officially over (thank goodness I hear some say!) but wait, it will soon fire-up again in September/October, with the start of the season in Melbourne.

Nagambie Historical society After months of undergoing refurbishments, the historical Euroa Community Cinema will re- open to the public with a special event planned to celebrate the occasion.

A recent enquiry to the Nagambie Historical Society concerned Charles Swanwick, who enlisted from Nagambie in WW I, then swapped names with another enlisted local, Charles Howard. The enquirer wrote that Swanwick went to Gallipoli where he shot himself in the foot and Howard stayed home and got married! Swanwick’s name was also on our primary school Roll of Honour.

Little was added from our indexes except a very interesting event that Swanwick’s father was involved in, the 1916 Seymour floods.

Senior Constable William Henry Swanwick and other good oarsmen from Nagambie Rowing Club were called on to rescue Seymour flood victims who had been swept away. Many Nagambie boats had sunk in the swirling floods but a motor boat and three rowing boats were sent in a special train to Seymour, with eight more boats sent in a second special.

Pianelli hung to the post, but the boat whirled away from him and he was left clinging to the post for a considerable time.”

When the boat capsized Mr Caelli rescued three of the women and two girls.

Senior Constable Swanwick meanwhile rescued Mrs Pearce, then her baby, who had become stuck in a barbed wire fence, upside down. He was unable to swim against the current carrying the child. The Seymour police boat swung in to assist in these rescues but was holed and rapidly sank, with those who had been on board finally being rescued from Drew’s fence

by Mr Geoghan as well as others in a flat bottomed boat.

In July the following year the Royal Humane Society presented awards to Senior Constable William Henry Swanwick; barman, Frederick Pianelli and Eric Caelli, clerk.

It seems that the Swanwick family moved on from Nagambie in December of that year, as a silver tray owned by the family is inscribed, “Presented to Mr W. H. Swanwick and family from the congregation of St John’s Church, Nagambie. 30.12.17.”

The rescuers were Swanwick, T. Vickers, J. Vickers, R. Caelli, F. Greenwood, J. Weeks, D. Welsh, T. Welsh, H. Welsh, R. A. Hotham, B. Ingleman, W. H. McLeod, A. McLeod, R. Elsbury, F. Pianelli, H. Guppy, J. Forbes, M. Griffiths and B. Gammon.

National Volunteer Week celebrated across the Shire From hilarious comedians, line dancing, indoor bowls and so much more, Strathbogie Shire’s volunteers celebrated in style for National Volunteers Week (May 1622).

– both for individuals and the communities they volunteer for.

Events were held across the Shire throughout the week to thank the community’s volunteers with entertainment and a free ticket to the newly reopening Euroa Community Cinema.

“Volunteering can also relieve stress, and alleviate symptoms of depression. As well as having a positive impact on your community, volunteering can improve your relationships.”

Kicking off the week was a hilarious performance from Greg Champion at the Violet Town Bowls Club. A full house of volunteers enjoyed the frivolities of the former Couldabeen Champions radio show host. Volunteers enjoyed a dinner at the Nagambie Bowls Club enjoying great food and company.

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Laura Binks said it was great to see so many people enjoying the event.

“We also had a lovely time at Avenel where volunteers were challenged to a few ends of bowls before a sandwich lunch,” Cr Binks said.

“The Third Age Club in Euroa hosted a luncheon and a musical afternoon that even included some impromptu boot-scooting.

“Our lovely Longwood volunteers spent the evening playing an indoor bowls competition and the week was capped off with a dinner event at the Nagambie Bowls Club featuring musical entertainment.”

Cr Binks said the week was a fantastic reminder of why volunteering is such an important activity

“There are so many benefits to being a volunteer.

Often people think it is an activity that you do after retirement but there are so many volunteers across so many different walks of life,” she said.

“Volunteering really is for everyone! It can bring meaning and purpose to your life, while increasing your self-esteem and wellbeing.

Cr Binks said there were many different avenues to volunteer with Strathbogie Shire Council.

“We are incredibly eager for more volunteers at the moment and we encourage anyone who has considered a role at the Euroa Community Cinema or one of our Visitor Information Centres, please get in touch.

“Volunteers at the cinema provide a wide variety of duties from ticket collection to attending the kiosk area; the best part about it is, you get to view the movie that is screening for free.

“We also have volunteers at our Visitor Information Centres who provide a valuable service for both residents and visitors to the Shire.

“Volunteers are the first point of contact for visitors and assist them by answering a range of queries such as the location of butchers, mechanics, caravan repairers, restaurants and supermarkets.

“Volunteering at the centres is perfect for those who have a passion for their region.”

Strathbogie Shire Brand Refresh The Community Notice Boards on Facebook have been kept busy with community feedback regarding the corporate brand that was adopted by Strathbogie Council at the May 17th council meeting.

Scrolling through the posts it is clear that those posting on social media do not see value in a rebrand strategy or adoption of such at this point in time. But the Council voted 4 in favour and 3 against with both Lake Nagambie Ward councilors voting against There is confusion over the new brand which is now being termed as a refresh, update and a renewal to the current brand. The confusion is real and may be contributed to the documents on the council website Item 9.6.1_Attachment 1_Branding Strategy . The document has vision of the town entry signs, the Victoria Cross Recipients, that are existing and directly beside that image the proposed town entry signs are displayed.

The $60,000 in the current budget is for updated town entry signage, not branding, and would have been spent to upgrade signage with either corporate logo.

We think we can do better at positioning our Shire as a great place to live, work, play and visit.

We want to position the Strathbogie Shire as a progressive, exciting, desirable regional location to live, work and play. We want to:

Why is a brand update and strategy needed?

Strathbogie Shire has enormous potential for tourism expansion, economic diversity and increased investment. Yet there is little awareness outside our municipality of our current identity.

We believe there is a need for a more consistent professional and innovative approach to branding and marketing to maximise impact and strengthen our identity.

More than this creating an effective and consistent approach for everything we produce – that’s everything from signs, to plaques, corporate documents, is the most efficient way (in terms of time and thus resources) to communicate with our community.

How did you research your brand renewal?

During the development of our Council Plan and Community Vision we held hundreds of face-to-face conversations and collected more than 1000 individual pieces of feedback to understand our community’s values and priorities.

We also completed a number of stakeholder interviews to inform the new brand strategy and it’s a key action in the first year of the 2022/25 Council Plan.

We used our Community Vision – which was developed by our Strathbogie Shire Community Panel as our brief.

How much is this costing?

All of the work has been completed by our in-house graphic designer.

The first stage of the roll out will be all our digital collateral. There is also $60,000 allocated in our 2021/22 Budget to update town entry signs. Following this we’ll update as part of our ongoing maintenance and renewal program.

Last Friday we held our House cross country running event. It was a beautiful afternoon, and the lake provided a beautiful backdrop to our course. Well done to all students for their participation and competitiveness.

Congratulations to Goulburn House, who defeated Mitchell by just a few points. Goulburn House Leaders Amber & Jasmine were very pleased to receive the ‘Trevor Boyer Cup’, which was proudly presented by Noelene Boyer.

There was an exciting assembly at school last Friday when we celebrated Bonnie’s first birthday. She received some presents, handmade cards from students and she very much enjoyed demolishing her special birthday cake. It is fabulous having Bonnie in the school, but as a working dog we have to be understanding that she is learning a lot and needs time to understand her role. Being so young, she still finds it quite exhausting being at school for a full day. Bonnie now has

It was lovely to see so many families there to cheer on the children. I especially enjoyed running with the P-2s and 3-4s.

By the time you read this article we should hopefully know which party will govern us for the next three years. Or will it be a hung parliament? For me, I’m just glad it’s all over.

National Volunteer Week has been celebrated in our townships across the shire during the week of 16th - 20th May. I attended two of these events in Nagambie and it was great to see the smiling faces and the well-deserved recognition of our volunteers.

Wonderful contributions from Anna Close at the Community House, the Bowls Club and of course the financial sponsorship from the Shire. Attendees were given a free movie ticket to the recently refurbished Euroa Cinema, good for twelve months.

At its most recent public council meeting the following motions were put and voted in favour of: 1) Subject to 2022/23 budget approval (June Council Meeting), it is proposed to introduce a new community grant program called the Christmas Decorations Grant. Funding of up to $5,000 would be available per town, with eligible organisations required to apply through a competitive funding round. All being well, grants will open on the 1stJuly and close on 1st August.

2) Authorise Council Officers to consult directly with the Australia Day Committees operating within the municipality, and the

Local Sport Update Nagambie Men’s Golf The Finnigan four ball first round of two sponsored

by Dean Brown Carpeting Cleaning is underway at the Nagambie golf club, 18 pairs took to the course in what could only be described as trying conditions.

Winning the day's event and leading the Finnigan four ball field into week two are Des Phelan and Michael Mensfeld finishing +6 , a relatively new partnership formed on the eve of the competition Phelan and Mensfeld have hit it off and now need to repeat their efforts for week two. Runners up went to the inform Rhys Shepherd partnered by Chris bence combining to record a +4 result just two from the lead leaving them well within striking distance to claim the club's biggest internal trophy.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Doug Neville on the 3rd with the only shot he fired all day and Shaun Bryant rather chuffed with himself going close on the 16th.

Next week's golf is round two of the Finnigan four ball sponsored by ABS Shepparton, on office duty will be B. Cryer and in the bar S. bryant.

The winner of B & C Grade was Jane Bow with 35 pts, Jane also won the monthly medal.

The 9 hole winner was Carol Wallis with 19pts.

18 hole balls went to Jane 35pts, Irene 34 pts and Maureen King also 34 pts.

9 hole balls went to Carol 19 pts, Maureen 17 pts and Irene 17 pts.

Maureen also had N/P on the 13 th.

Only 6 players turned out for a game of Stableford , and the conditions on the coarse were amazing after all the rain we had for the prior two days.

The winner was Moz Fowler with 30 pts.

9 hole winner was Jane Bow with 17 pts.

18 hole balls went to Moz 30 pts. and Jane 27 pts.

9 hole balls went to Jane 17 pts. and Moz 14 pts. on a C/B from Karyn Thompson.

Moz also took out the only N/P winner on the 3rd.

There were only 8 players with the winner being Moz Fowler with 30 pts. The 9 hole winner was also Moz on a C/B from Anne Burns with 15 pts.

N/P on the 3rd was Anne and on the 16th Karyn Thompson.

9 hole balls went to Moz and Anne both with 15 pts.

The Captains aggregate Trophy winner for round 1 was Anne Burns with 34 pts .

The second round winner was Moz with 30 pts.

The over all winner of the Captains Aggregate was Moz with 64 pts,

There were 25 players . The winner was. Ark Wilson 40/30.5 and the runner up was Terry Clonan 48/37.5.

N/P winners were Chris Roberts on the 13 th and Terry Clonan on the 26th.

There were 14 players. The winner of A Grade was Irene Keogh with 34 pts.

Today we welcomed Alexandra to our last home game at Avenel for the season.

All football teams found it tough going against some big Alex kids, however they all toughed it out well, and in the case of the u11’s, finished out on top.

The u13’s were caught off guard by an Alex team that were much faster out of the blocks. The defenders had a tough job against some big opponents but kept putting the pressure on all game. The team rallied in the second half, but couldn’t peg back the score line. To their credit they played the game out right to the end.

The netballers are showing their teamwork is improving and their game plans are coming together. The u13 girls in particular showed their hard work is paying off, starting to work together on the court. And even though they are a very young team, usually against older opponents, they are starting to gel and their time will come.

Table Tennis Nagambie Has A New Home W e are very pleased to report that table tennis is continuing on a Wednesday night at the new venue of the Nagambie Seniors Citizens Hall at 358 – 362 High Street, (alongside the Library) Activate Nagambie who previously ran the competition at the NMI hall generously offered the tables and all equipment to the Seniors Citizens.

This has ensured that the competition will continue, as if the sale had have been made elsewhere, Nagambie would have definitely lost this opportunity to provide the sport in our town.

The Seniors have been able to space four tables with the option of a fifth table if numbers increase. A few of the members are dedicating their time to get the competition underway, but we would really appreciate other members or anyone in general that would be willing to be on a roster to ensure we have the resources to continue. Perhaps once a month to take the responsibility of being there to welcome players, set up tables and pack away. With a few offers, it makes it easy for everyone.

Starting at 7pm, with arrival from 6.30 pm to enable team and group allocation, with ability level considered to ensure players have a reasonable match up. We intend to branch out into beginner lessons and some coaching as we gauge the popularity of the sport. Offering day time social games and lessons is also being considered, with perhaps the schools being involved for their sports programs if they are interested.

The night is open to all ages and abilities and we are hoping to see the popularity of the game increase with interest and suggestions from potential players and groups.

As winter takes hold, many are not willing to venture out at night, but the hall is warm and we are sure you will enjoy having a hit. Please consider making it a regular event, many of those who come, look forward to this weekly event.

We are hoping to introduce a day session, just need to get interested parties to let us know.

Other updates with the Seniors Citizens Club are that we have a growing membership and now have 205 members, we appreciate all the support.

With more members we are able to offer a wider range of activities and outings, look forward to input and suggestions.

Our Christmas in July is being held on 25th July, and our 50th birthday celebrations on 10th October, so if you are wanting to be a part of these, please let us know. Sadly, though our Movie Day, which is every second Tuesday, has not been that well attended. The club has invested in a great sound system and movies screen to give a real cinema atmosphere, and you can enjoy the ice cream and confectionary at interval to ensure the real experience.

We are hoping to get access to more current movies, but as we all know at this age, you still can’t beat the old classics!! Give us feedback on what you would like to see, and hopefully come along and enjoy.

The next Movie Day will be second Tuesday, June 14th when we show “The Girl on the Train” with Emily Blunt, followed by the fourth Tuesday, 28th June where we will show “Sully” with Tom Hanks. Put it in the calendar and come along for a few hours escape!
