he Nagambie On Water Festival is excited to snag a partnership with Go Fish Nagambie with the 2022 event hub being located at the Nagambie Lakes Regatta Centre.

As part of a new look 15th festival, the annual community run event date will move to February 12th and be collocated at the Nagambie Lakes Regatta Centre, 66 Loddings Lane Nagambie coinciding with the GoFish Nagambie tournament.

The change of venue and date brings greater space for a weekend fuelled by more events, activities, and entertainment whilst being able to maintain a covid safe environment.

Having the perfect summer outdoor setting, greater accessibility to the lake shoreline, ample parking and improved amenities, the NOW festival will provide its visitors with an abundance of leisure and lifestyle activity.

Councillor Reg Update The compliments of the season to everyone. This will be my final article for 2021 and it also marks the completion of my first twelve months as your Councillor. It hasn’t always been easy however it has been very rewarding in so many respects, especially with the positive and constructive support I have received.

Christmas is upon us and it is great to see all the decorations from businesses, householders and the volunteers who put in so much time and effort along the water’s edge. Nagambie is well lit up and the Christmas cheer just gets better every year.

A permit for the use and development of a solar energy facility and a utility installation has been issued under delegation from the Minister for Planning at 99 O’Connor’s Rd., Mangalore and 858 Seymour-Avenel Rd., Mangalore.

It is not too late to put in a submission for the Pitch My Project initiative. It is open to all residents, businesses and organisations, so if you have some thoughts on this topic feel free to contact me and I may be able to assist/support your idea.

The Mullins Road project has received several objections regarding the removal of twenty-two trees. At its final meeting for the year Council voted in favour of engaging with residents for a further period, so if you would like to have some input don’t delay.

I have decided not to hold any “Meet & Greet” sessions for the month of January, however I will still be available during this time should you have any concerns/issues.

Public Notice - NYE Fireworks Display Notice is hereby given that a pyrotechnic display will be released from the Nagambie Lakes Regatta Centre between 9:55pm and 10:10pm on Friday December 31st 2021.

Neighbouring farms and residences in the area are reminded that animals might become distressed by fireworks and owners should take action to secure their animals to keep them safe. During the pyrotechnic display there will be flashes of light followed by loud noises. The pyrotechnic display will be 5-7 minutesin duration.

Public Notice Boating Activity Exclusion Zone Strathbogie Shire Council as the declared waterway manager for the Goulburn River from Hughes Creek to Goulburn Weir including Lake Nagambie, makes the following declaration under Section 203(3) of the Marine Safety Act 2010, that the waters of Lake Nagambie in Furlong Cove and surrounding McNamara Point as marked by buoys are prohibited to all persons and vessels not registered to take part in the New Year’s Eve Fireworks display.

Explorers Way The Nagambie Historical Society was excited to read of Go Nagambie’s Take Nature’s Road Trip campaign as it fits perfectly with a project they are involved in.

So far the route has been chosen, intersections and memorials photographed, and coffee breaks tested! Grants will be sought and the route may be developed in stages, from the basic descriptive map to the full pictorial experience.

The Society is working with Strathbogie Shire Council on a proposal that the Major Mitchell Bicentennial Trail be reopened as a Tourist Drive, from the Nagambie area to Violet Town.

The drive can be accessed at any point and could include linked drives to adjacent shires. For example access using the beautiful Northwood Road from Seymour. An illustrated tour brochure is also envisaged, including a touring map within the Shire, and historical details. This would be available at our Information Centres and historical societies The guide would include symbols for accommodation, food, petrol and toilets.

More recently the concept has been expanded to create a circular route, using Hume and Hovell’s track, to return through Euroa, Longwood and Avenel. This Explorers Way would visit many historic sites in the Shire, most already marked by cairns and plaques.

The Major Mitchell Trail was a bicentennial project initiated in the 1980s, to create a trail as close as possible to the route of Mitchell’s 1836 Australia Felix Expedition, for horse riders and for vehicles. For drivers, existing roads were chosen which followed the route as closely as possible, throughout Victoria. Tourists took several days to traverse the trail, stopping overnight along the way.

Many points of interest were described and flagged in the guide books, now rare. At historic locations, interpretive boards brought history to life. It is planned to restore modern boards at some of the sites, hopefully also giving some

A highly successful fundraiser took place in Avenel last weekend with the star act being, none other than Eddie Perfect. He did not miss a beat as he entertained 200 plus people on Friday night & Saturday afternoon.

The money raised will go to restoring and repairing the two heritage buildings in Avenel Jubilee Park.

Mitchell’s route is important in that it was the first ‘road’ to Sydney which crossed the Old Crossing Place on the Goulburn River, first crossed by the party in October 1836, then every river and creek to the north. These waters were most important spots in Victoria’s history of settlement, exclusively used by every overlander and their stock for four to five years, as they followed the Major’s Line etched into the landscape by his heavy boat wagon. Several years later, the New Crossing Place at Seymour was favoured.

The Society and Shire are looking at the new tourist drive which runs throughout the shire, off the beaten track, Starting from the Heathcote-Nagambie Road, along Wattle Vale Road to Mitchellstown cairn. Then detouring into Mitchelton Winery to see their cairn marked for the site of the first mail run from Sydney to Port Phillip, which used the Old Crossing Place.

A trip to Tahbilk across the river, on to the Nagambie cairn and North to Wahring to turn East on the Wahring-Longwood Road. The bicentennial trail route follows some beautiful tree-lined country roads, crossing creeks and nearing the blue range towards Violet Town.

The road less travelled is the best way to see this countryside. Hume and Hovell’s track will be travelled in reverse, from Violet Town, as they were also heading home to Sydney through this area. Returning from Violet Town the proposed route visits Euroa, Longwood and Avenel.

The Society hopes to see the tourist route and brochure launched at the Museum. A suitable exhibition would accompany the launch. It is hoped that the project will enhance Go Nagambie’s campaign.

Applications Open for Building Better Regions Fund The Liberal-Nationals Federal Government is continuing to invest in the future of Nicholls with a further $250 million in funding available under Round 6 of the Building Better Regions Fund.

Federal Member for Nicholls, Damian Drum, said applications open today, which paves the way for new projects that regional communities need and deserve to be funded and delivered.

Mr Drum is calling on local councils and community organisations to start preparing applications for projects to receive a share in the $250 million that is available nationally.

“The Liberal-Nationals Government is delivering the services and infrastructure our communities deserve,” Mr Drum said.

“Funding projects in regional towns will ensure communities have the facilities they need for the future, while creating jobs now and driving Australia’s economic recovery.

“The Goulburn Valley has benefitted significantly from previous rounds of the BBRF, including funding of more than $8.5 million for the redevelopment of Shepparton’s Maude Street Mall – a project that is well underway and providing employment for local workers.

Nagambie residents asked to pick their splash park equipment

“Under Round 5 of the BBRF, six projects in Nicholls received a significant financial boost – collectively to the tune of $769,000 – including $300,000 for the Gargarro Regional Botanic Garden and $200,000 for the construction of an alfresco extension and upgrade of internal amenities at Kyabram Parkland Golf Club.

“Another local project to benefit from the BBRF was the Cobram Community Cinema, which received $526,650 funding via Round 3.”

The BBRF supports economic and social infrastructure for the long-term benefit of regional communities – funding the infrastructure and services that communities need for the future will create jobs and help them rebound strongly from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funding under Round 6 takes the Federal Government’s total BBRF investment to $1.38 billion.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Barnaby Joyce, said the Federal Government is focused on ensuring our regions remain strong and grow into the future.

“Regional Australians deserve the same services and opportunities that people in metropolitan cities have and the Building Better Regions Fund helps make this happen,” Mr Joyce said.

“That’s why we’ve committed another $250 million for projects and initiatives that will transform communities, create new jobs, and drive economic growth across regional Australia.

“This will build on the 298 fantastic regional projects that shared in $300 million in funding under the last round of the Building Better Regions Fund.

“Our Government is committed to delivering the best outcomes for regional and remote Australia, which is why we are providing local businesses, industries and families with opportunities to get ahead.”

Local governments and eligible incorporated notfor-profit organisations can again apply for grants of between $5000 and $10 million to cover 50 per cent or more of eligible project costs.

Round 6 projects will be funded under two streams.

The Infrastructure Projects Stream supports the construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure.

The Community Investments Stream funds community development activities including, but not limited to, new or expanded local events, strategic regional plans, leadership and capability building activities.

Applications close February 10, 2022.

Nagambie will soon be home to a permanent splash park, further adding to the attractions on offer to community members and visitors to the region.

Strathbogie Shire Council committed $1 million in funding in its 2021/22 budget to create a splash park at Buckley Park, Nagambie.

With Construction works set to start in February and completion expected in late September,

Council are calling on Nagambie residents to help select the equipment for the town’s new splash park.

The splash park pad allows for nine individual pieces of equipment and there are 11 options to choose from.

“We’ve now engaged Wacky Water Play as the contractor to develop this fabulous facility for the Nagambie community,” Mayor, Cr Laura Binks said.

All the equipment is listed on www. share.strathbogie.vic.gov.au and people are asked to rate their preference using a points system.

“But we want your input.

“We encourage you to visit www.share.strathbogie. vic.gov.au to have your say,” she said.

“Our goal is to create a water play area for the Nagambie and surrounding communities, so we’re asking the community to pick the equipment.”

Seymour Health COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic Update The local Seymour and surrounding district communities are to be applauded for the high vaccination rates that we achieved locally. Due to the commitment of each and every one of you and because the community has come out in droves, we have successfully achieved high vaccination rates above 95% across the catchment.

Over 90% of Victorians aged twelve years and above have had their double dose of the COVID-19 vaccinations. The Victorian Government are therefore gradually beginning to scale back the capacity of vaccination centres across the state. Due to the high vaccination rates locally, demand for vaccinations at the Seymour Health COVID-19 Vaccination clinic sub-hub has been reducing steadily. The health service has been officially notified that the Vaccination Clinic was required to cease operating by 17 December.

Seymour Health staff are now diligently organising for any required second and or booster doses to be administered at other vaccination sites, as needed.

For those individuals who are yet to be vaccinated or want to access booster shots, vaccinations can be accessed through a local GP, pharmacist or alternatively visit a vaccination centre, pop up clinic or vaccination in the home for first and second doses. Bookings for these services are still available through the 1800 675 398 number.

Please note that Seymour Health will no longer be operating the COVID-19 vaccination clinic after 15 December 2021.

Help with energy bills through the $250 Power Saving Bonus The Victorian Government is encouraging households doing it tough with energy bills to apply for the one-off $250 Power Saving Bonus payment, as the 12-month program marks more than 320,000 payments to Victorians totalling $80 million.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes today called on all eligible households to take advantage of the one-off $250 payment before the program ends on 31 January 2022.

This includes households receiving payments through the Pension Concession, JobSeeker, Austudy, Abstudy or Youth Allowance programs, or who hold a Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said, “There are still many Victorian households who have not yet applied for what could be crucial relief for their energy bills amid the second, devastating year of COVID-19.

“This $250 payment helps reduce household bill pressure, and I call on all pension concession, JobSeeker, Austudy, Abstudy or Youth Allowance recipients – or if you know someone who is – to apply.”

With electricity bills a top cost of living issue and about 20 per cent of Victorian households requesting financial assistance with bills in 2020, the program aims to reduce cost of living pressure with a $250 payment transferred electronically into bank accounts or provided via cheque on request, typically taking about two weeks to arrive.

Community members can check their eligibility and apply for the payment by calling 1800 000 832 or visiting compare.energy.vic.gov.au.

To assist eligible households who may not have access to a computer or require assistance with their application, the Government is providing support through the Power Saving Bonus Community Outreach Program.

Outreach Program partners include the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, Consumer Policy Research Centre, Good Shepherd and Neighbourhood House, Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria, Consumer Action Law Centre, and State Trustees Limited.

The Power Saving Bonus, part of a $797 million household energy affordability package, is delivered through the Government’s Victorian Energy Compare website, which sees more than one million visitors each year.

The website helps consumers find the best energy deal available, with data showing seven out of every ten users save money by switching energy offers and a typical annual saving of $330.

Strathbogie Shire Council is seeking feedback on proposed rule changes for the waterways in Nagambie managed by Council.

Council is in the process of reviewing speed limits and zoning on Lake Nagambie and the Goulburn River from Hughes Creek to the Goulburn Weir.

Waterway users, Strathbogie Shire Council and key stakeholders have voiced safety concerns, in part due to an increasing number of swimmers, non-powered vessels and powered vessels, sharing the waterway.

Council has since undertaken preparatory research and identified potential rule changes to improve safety on the waterway.

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Laura Binks said these changes addressed challenges including user safety, equitable access, sharing waterways, and planning for sustainable growth.

“Council is inviting comments from individuals and relevant organisations to ensure state- wide and local issues are reflected in the proposed approach,” Cr Binks said.

“We are encouraging people to do this by completing our survey on our online engagement platform Share Strathbogie.

“The purpose of the consultation is to find the most appropriate and safest solutions. Equitable use of the waterway will be an important

consideration when it comes to the findings.”

The survey findings will be coupled with previous investigative work including the Lake Nagambie and the Goulburn River Risk Review (2020-21), Lake Nagambie and the Goulburn River Issues Paper (2020-21), an on-water survey conducted on Labour Day Weekend 2020, and a Bathymetric survey and sub-surface feature detection of Nagambie waterways.

Kerbside Collections and Transfer Stations

Don’t forget we’re calling on community members and groups to pitch their project ideas to Council as we work to develop our 2022/23 Draft Budget.

Council committed $1 million in funding in its 2021/22 Budget to create a splash park at Buckley Park, Nagambie and we’ve now engaged a contractor to design and develop the facility.

Have your say on proposed changes to Nagambie waterway rules We’re calling for input into proposed rule changes to speed limits and zoning on Lake Nagambie and the Goulburn River from Hughes Creek to the Goulburn Weir.

Waterway users, Council and key stakeholders have voiced safety concerns, in part due to an increasing number of swimmers, non-powered vessels and powered vessels, sharing the waterway.

Pools Our pools are open every day except for Christmas Day and when the temperature drops below 22 degrees. We close on colder days, so we can open for longer when it's hot. From now until January 26, next year our pools are open from 12 noon to 8pm.

Libraries Euroa Library will be close at 2pm on 24 December and Violet Town and Nagambie Libraries close at 12.30pm that day, as per usual.

Goulburn Valley Libraries will be closed for public holidays and will be operating their normal hours on other days. The Mobile Library will follow its regular schedule on from December 29-31 and normal hours resume on January 4.

Maternal Child Health The Strathbogie Shire Maternal & Child Health Program will be closed from 3pm Friday, December 24 and will reopen for normal operating hours on Monday, January 3, 2021. If you require assistance during this time, please call the Maternal & Child Health line on 13 22 29 for 24-hour advice and support, or alternatively contact your local GP or birth hospital.

$20 million Christmas Present For Councils in Nicholls The five local governments that make up the federal electorate of Nicholls will share in almost $20 million of funding via phase three of the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.

Pitch My Project initiative open for applications earlier this year Strathbogie Shire Council is launching the Pitch My Project initiative for a second time after a successful inaugural year.

The ‘Pitch My Project’ initiative was first established during the engagement process for the recent 2021/22 Budget.

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Laura Binks explained what the concept was all about.

“The project called on local residents and community groups to submit their projects for funding in the recent Budget,” Cr Binks said.

“Council received incredible submissions and we were proud to be able to deliver funding to more than 10 projects through the initiative.”

Cr Binks said Council was calling on the community to “pitch their projects” far earlier this time around so that those receiving funding can be included in next year’s Draft Budget.

“The process is all part of Council’s commitment to community engagement,” Cr Binks said.

“We are committed to improving on ways we can include our community in decision-making because, with the community’s input, we make better decisions.

“That is why we are launching ‘Pitch My Project’ much earlier so that we can include the amazing projects that receive funding into our next Draft Budget which will go out to the community for review before being adopted.

“This will ensure we have better planning, better engagement and better community input as an engaged, responsive and listening council.”

This latest funding – contained in the 2021/22 budget – means more than $41 million will have been collectively distributed to Campaspe Shire Council, City of Greater Shepparton, Mitchell Shire Council, Moira Shire Council, and Strathbogie Shire Council under the LRCI program.

Federal Member for Nicholls, Damian Drum, said the money would be spent on improving each council’s local road networks and for the delivery of priority community infrastructure projects.

“I am excited to announce that our local governments can now nominate priority projects for funding, in the process taking them off a wish list and turning them into reality,” Mr Drum said.

Nicholls to ensure local projects get underway and support jobs and businesses as soon as possible.”

Among the approved projects in Nicholls funded under phase one and phase two of the LRCI program are: ✔ The redevelopment of Vibert Reserve Pavilion in Shepparton; •

Improved lighting on pedestrian paths in Shepparton’s Victoria Park Lake precinct; The upgrade of Federation Park in Cobram;

•

Resurfaced netball courts at Lockington, Toolleen, Echuca, and Gunbower;

•

Improved accessibility and facilities at Yarrawonga boat ramp;

•

The realignment of Livingstone St and Ewings Rd intersection in Avenel;

•

Intersection upgrades around the proposed Yarrawonga multisport stadium;

•

The upgrade of Numurkah playground and skate park; and

•

The upgrade of outdoor aquatic facilities at Avenel and Nagambie.

“It’s been a tough few years filled with unexpected and exceptionally difficult times for all of us, and all our local governments and all our communities here in Nicholls have pulled together to keep the gears turning.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Barnaby Joyce, said the phase three funding would help drive local recovery from the impacts of COVID-19 as regions prepare to return to business as usual.

“This is yet another example of the LiberalNationals Government continuing to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with councils and the communities they serve, delivering the funding needed to create jobs, economic stimulus, and road and community infrastructure that will benefit locals well in to the future.

“This funding will go directly to local governments to deliver some of their priority projects, which will create local jobs and get funding flowing across our regions,” Mr Joyce said.

“I will work closely with all five local councils in

Assistant Minister for Local Government, Kevin Hogan, said across all three phases the program is delivering a total of $2.5 billion to local governments in Australia, with $1.5 billion already out the door, supporting more than 6100 projects nationally.

“I’m thrilled to be putting even more funding in the hands of local governments to help them deliver even more projects that will support their communities,” Mr Hogan said.

“This program asks local councils to use local businesses and workforces to deliver their projects where possible and that’s exactly what we have been seeing, meaning these funds continue to flow on to hard working Aussies, their families, and then back into their communities.

“Shovels can hit the ground on projects as soon as work schedules are approved, so I call on all local councils to work with us to get this funding out the door and benefitting their communities as soon as possible by nominating projects now.”

Avenel was rockin’ all weekend as part of the Roaming Rhythms festival Avenel rocked on the weekend of 11/12th December with continuous music across local Avenel businesses as part of the Roaming Rhythms festival providing great entertainment for everyone who attended.

A great line up of 6 musical groups ranging from easy listening with Katie & the Kiwi to 50’s & 60’s rock with Bremer River at the Imperial Hotel on Sunday afternoon. All time favourite band- The Skerricks rocked the Avenel Twilight market.

“Musical Melodie’s, classics and 50’s-60’s rock were sung by local musicians who have missed out on earnings due to the challenges of COVID. The community welcomed the free entertainment which was gratefully funded

by Strathbogie Shire,” said organisers. Anne and Nadine.

“Already locals are asking if it will happen again next year,” said Anne.

Avenel was definitely the place to be!

Santa visits Avenel Twilight Market Local Avenel market members & local police take a well earned break during the Twilight market held last Saturday.

Another highly successful Twilight market was held in Avenel last Saturday with over 2500 people attending over the evening. 60 plus Food vans , local wines, beer and cider sites and market stalls converged on Avenel Jubilee Park to create a wonderful festive event after another difficult year for stallholders and the local community.

Local Avenel Primary school children sang to the crowd followed by much loved local band The Skerricks. Tinsel & twinkling lights adorned the Park’s trees as people wandered throughout the market area.

Market organisers, Anne, Wendy & Annie, would like to thank all the volunteers that make this event possible, along with the wonderful stallholders.

Another year comes to an end Last week started with a fabulous Gr 6 ‘fun day’ at the lake. We appreciated the wonderful equipment, activities and venue provided by Lee and his team at Go Adventure Nagambie. Students and staff enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, paddle boats and stand up paddle boards.

We also had a wonderful Graduation.

Our Grade 6 students enjoyed their bus trip, photos by the lake, a delicious dinner with staff, followed by student speeches and presentations.

It was lovely to see so many Gr 6 families enjoy a picnic at school.

Congratulations to all our award winners, including joint Academic Excellence winners Jack & Dash.

Over the last few weeks all students have enjoyed concert practice. Once again we recorded this and released it to all school families online. It was wonderful to showcase the creative skills of all students.

Class of 2021 Celebrates It is great that many primary schools consider their Grade six year as an important rite of passage or an early coming of age and hold a graduation for their Grade Six graduates. Nagambie Primary School is one of them.

Even though the Corona Virus Covid 19 has controlled numbers attending many functions or events the school held their Graduation dinner at the Nagambie Primary School’s all purpose room on Tuesday, December 14 for their 18 graduating Grade six students and their families.

Thanks to Helen Heathcote’s year round efforts the evening was a success and the room looked festive with the decorations Helen and her helpers had done.

Each student’s place had their photograph and a graduation bear in it and the edge of the stage had collages of the pupils taken over their school years. A power point presentation photo presentation of the children’s school years was shown after dinner.

School Principal Rob French and Grade six teacher James Bodycoat thanked the students and their families, teaching staff, school Parents and Friends association, volunteers and local organisations for an excellent year and for supporting the Grade six students throughout their primary school years.

The Grade 6 awards were then conducted in front of the Grade six school assembly.

The Weary Dunlop award was presented to Christian on behalf of Steph Ryan MP Euroa.

Andrea Richards presented The Lions Club of Nagambie and

District Inc. Encouragement award and was presented to Maxwell.

Hamish Fletcher presented the Tabilk Junior Football Club’s Most Improved award to Ashton.

Bridie and Brooke won the Arts award from the Nagambie Parents and Friends group.

The Neil Lodding Sports Trophy was presented to Dash on behalf of N.Lodding; Helen Heathcote on behalf of the Nagambie Football/ Netball Club and Steve Brook on behalf of the Nagambie Cricket Club.

The 2021 Citizenship award was presented to Dylan by School Council President Kymberleigh Rowland and Nagambie RSL Vice President David Keall.

The Fran Irwin Literacy award sponsored by her husband Keith Irwin and son Clint was presented to Liam.

The Kevin Verge Memorial Maths and Science award was presented to Austin on behalf of Sue Verge.

The Dux of the School final award for Academic excellence went to Jack and Dash and was presented by Debbie George on behalf of the Tahbilk Winery.

In response, Mr Jones said “I came for one year, and ended up staying for 13.”

Mr Jones was presented with a graduation certificate by Fr Tony Hill with the school staff standing nearby to wish him well and the school community cheering him on for his retirement.

Local Sport Update Nagambie Golf Club The annual Ray Cassar Memorial Cross Country event sponsored by Murchison East Hotel played on a 20 hole composite course was once again very popular with Nagambie golfers as well as attracting some visitors on the day. Proving wayward golf negotiating trees and playing shots from the rough is their specialty were last year's winners going back to back Jeremy Ezard and Shaun Spicer completing the course with a 65 - 61.5 net. Runners up were the father son duo of Lindsay Hall and Daniel Hall firing a 70 - 62.5 and rounding out the top three was Tim Baldwin and visitor Geoff Clark-Hall with 74 - 64.

Due to the composite course 6 nearest the pins were on offer Jeremy Ezard getting home on both the 2nd & 16th, Doug Neville rattling it onto the 6th, brother Phil taking home the 8th & 10th, other brother Barry Cryer supposedly claiming the 13th and Shaun 'dead online' Bryant finishing inches away from the 20th. Many thanks to our days sponsor the Murch East hotel, next week's golf will be a stableford event with D. Love on office duty and D. Hall in the bar.

Stormy weather kept many away on Sunday with the brave souls game enough to battle the elements having play suspended for 30 minutes due to dangerous lightning strike activity surrounding the course.

Sableford was the day's event and with the resumption of play Shaun Bryant was the golfer dealing with the situation best, submitting a handicap equalling 36 points to beat a bunched up field with four players returning 35 points. Of the 35 points getters Gary Bow finished runner up and David Love taking third.

The nearest the pin prizes went to Jeremy Ezard on the 3rd and 13th with two Lightning rod strikes, Daniel Hall reaching the 8th with a thunderbolt of his own and Phil Neville lucky to hold onto the 16th. Next week's golf will be a Boxing Day event with a Par round being played, office duty is B. Cryer and in the bat J. Mills.

Wednesday 8th December.

8 Ladies braved the cold,windy conditions to play a game of Stableford and the Monthly Medal was up for grabs. The winner of the days Competion and the Monthly Medal was Bev Browm with 40 pts.

9 hole winner was also Bev with 22 pts.

18 hole balls went to Bev and Jane Bow with 35 pts.

9 hole balls went to Bev and Jane with 16 pts.

There was no N/P winner on the 8th but Irene Keogh took it on the 13th.

Chicken Run Results 10th December Over 20 players managed to play a game of Stableford on the Front 9 . Hugh Lawrence was the winner with 20pts and the runner up was Harold Rayner with 19 pts. Shaun Bryant took out N/P on the 8th.

Avenel Bowls Midweek Pennant GMBR round 5 of Midweek Pennant saw the Avenel Division 5 team travel to Violet Town with the locals winning the match 14 – 63 to Avenel 0 -36.

Graham Lewis, Ruth Underwood, Joyce White, George Pedler (s) sored a seven on the 20th end to propel them into the lead by one. Violet Town then won four of the last five ends and the match 25 – 20.

Marion Gittus, Glen Bell Bill O’Connor, Graeme Toy (s) lost 16 – 38. After being down 25 shots at the break, they re-grouped in the second half winning 14 – 7, but could not recover from the first session deficit, to go down to Violet Town 16 – 38.

The next game for division 5 is against Seymour at Nagambie.

Division 2 played a home game at Nagambie against Tatura Hill Top with the visitors winning the match 16 – 78 to Avenel 0 -62.

Nyoli Bell, Charlie Kemp, Grace Kenworthy, Spud Furletti (s) after throwing everything at Tatura Hill Top all game, were one up after the 24th end. On the last end Tatura Hill Top scored two shots to steal the victory by a solitary

shot, 25 – 24.

Pam Pedder, Fay Hateley, Rob Kemp, Noel Slater (s) were down by 13 shots at the half way mark, but fought back in the second session to get within three shots on the 22nd end. Tatura Hill Top won the last three ends and the match 25 – 19.

Ruth King, Kate Donovan, Jenny Furletti, Geoff Hateley (s) in a closely fought out game, were one shot up on the 18th end when Tatura Hill Top took the game on scoring fourteen shots in five ends to win the game 19 – 28.

The next match for division 3 in round 6 will be away against Stanhope.

Weekend Pennant In division 3, round 6, Avenel hosted Shepparton Golf at Nagambie with the visitors the victors 16 – 104 to Avenel 2- 77.

The lone winning rink for Avenel was Fay Hateley, Jake Wall, Howard Geldard, Josh McDonald (s) who lead from the second end to hold off a fast-finishing Shepparton Golf rink to claim the win 20 – 17.

Ruth King, Graeme Toy, Grace Kenworthy, Spud Furletti (s) had a forgettable first half going into the lunch break 4 – 19 down. Accurate bowling in the second half saw them pull the margin back to within three shots on end 22, outscoring the opposition 14 – 4. However, Shepparton Golf won the last three ends and the game 26 – 18.

Donna Rowley, Jenny Furletti, Geoff Hateley, Noel Slater (s) were one up at the break but won only four ends in the second half when the Shepparton Golf lads found form to win 36 – 25.

Pam Pedder, Kate Donovan, Rusty Schwab, Brett McDonald (s) just didn’t win enough ends to head off Shepparton Golf at any stage going down 14 – 25.

Next week Avenel are in for a long road trip to play Tallygaroopna. Bowlers are reminded that this game will start earlier than the usual start time. Please check the noticeboard for departure time.

Division 6 South for the second week in a row travelled to Eildon to play Eildon 1 with the home team winning 16 – 100 to Avenel 0 – 52.

James Wall, Ross Sinclair (sub) Marion Gittus, Jason Toy (s) were as much as seventeen shots down including a seven and a five. With three first year bowlers, winning a credible twelve ends for the match, the seven and the five were the defining shots up for Eildon to wrap up the game 34 – 24.

Mitch Thomas, Graham Lewis, Joyce White, George Pedler (s) was well behind for the whole game but came within seven shots on end 21. Eildon then won all bar one of the remaining ends to seal the win 30 – 18.

Kyle Pedder, Ruth Underwood, B Gilchrist (sub) Charlie Kemp (s) was over powered by an in form Eildon rink going down 36 – 10.

Round 7 next week Avenel play Alexandra 2 at Nagambie.

The Christmas party will be held on Saturday 18 December after pennant. Family and friends of bowlers are most welcome for the two course Christmas dinner and celebrations. To assist with catering, please add your name to the list on the noticeboard if you wish to attend.. There will be a few surprises on the night so come along and join in the fun. 22 December 2021 Midweek Pennant Reward for effort for the Avenel division 5 team in round 6 of GMBR midweek pennant. With one winning rink and one drawn rink, the 13-47 win against Seymour 1-43 was the teams’ first win of the season and enough to lift them up from the bottom of the ladder.

Graham Lewis, Joyce White, Glen Bell, George Pedler (s) gained the lead on the sixth end with a six. Seymour came within one shot on end 21. But Avenel were determined to bring this one home and won the last four ends 5 – 2 and the game 26 – 22.

Marion Gittus, Nyoli Bell, Bill O’Connor, Graeme Toy (s) won 9 of the first 14 ends to go into the break 17 – 6 up. In the second session, Seymour chipped away to draw even with Avenel by end 23. The deadlock was unable to be broken with Avenel scoring a two on the second last end and Seymour scoring a two on the last end, Game drawn on 21 apiece.

Next week in round 7 Avenel play away against Rushworth.

Division 2 had an away game against Stanhope. The home team with two winning rinks, won 14 – 67 to Avenel 2 – 65.

Ruth King, Kate Donovan, Jenny Furletti, Geoff Hateley (s) had a day out winning 20 ends. At lunch they were up 15 shots and continued in blistering form to win the second session 16 – 3 and the game 36 – 8.

Pam Pedder, Fay Hateley, Rob Kemp, Noel Slater (s) were able to get in the head and keep Stanhopes’ winning ends to three or under but found the going tough to win ends themselves losing 14 – 27.

Avenel’s green is responding brilliantly to the recent lasering. A big thank you goes to greenkeeper Spud Furletti who has spent many hours daily over the last three weeks tending to the frequent watering and ongoing maintenance that is required to encourage the regrowth.

And thank you once again to Nagambie Bowling Club for allowing us full use of their green and facilities for the month of December.

Rusty Schwab, Charlie Kemp, Grace Kenworthy, Spud Furletti (s) after a close tussle all day were within three on the nineteenth end. Stanhope then hit the accelerator and won the last six ends and the match 32 – 15.

The last round for this year for division two is away against Euroa.

Weekend Pennant Division 3 travelled to Tallygaroopna and played the locals on the hottest day of the season so far. Tallygaroopna managed the blustery conditions much better than Avenel winning overall 16 – 133 to 2 – 81.

Donna Rowley, Jenny Furletti, Noel Slater, Geoff Hateley (s) were in a close game till they scored a five an end thirteen to give them a seven shot lead. From there they won nine of the twelve remaining ends with accurate consistent bowling to win the game 36 – 14.

Rusty Schwab, Kate Donovan, Pam Pedder, Brett McDonald (s) fought hard to wrestle the lead from the Tallygaroopna lads to go into the break six shots up.

However, losing the last six ends saw Tallygaroopna overtake Avenel on end 24 and win by two shots 23 – 25.

Fay Hateley, Jake Wall, Howard Geldard, Josh McDonald (s) although behind, were in touch with Tallygaroopna till the break. After lunch the locals powered ahead winning seven ends for a comfortable win 35 -21.

Ruth King, Graeme Toy, Grace Kenworthy, Spud Furletti (s) may have lost their game, but they never lost their fighting spirit or sense of humour.

The next game for division 3 is at home against East Shepparton on Saturday 15 January 2022.

Alexandra 2 forfeited to Avenel in division 6 South. When bowls resumes in the new year, Avenel will travel to Yea on 15 January 2022 for their round 8 match.

Last Saturday evening the club held it’s Christmas Party and the clubhouse was rocking with a full complement of members and their families and friends enjoying a wonderful night of good food and festive fun. Thank you to the members that contributed dishes to the main course and dessert, the quality of the food was outstanding and plentiful. Nagambie Cricket Club Nagambie travelled to Waaia for the round 6 A Grade match on a difficult pitch. A score of 5 for 107 was a defendable total with Luke Nolan batting throughout the innings remaining 57 not out. Waaia, assisted by several dropped catches, lost six wickets in the run chase with Josh Sanderson the best of the bowlers claiming two wickets.

In the corresponding B Grade match Waaia were dismissed for 152 with Cain Murray and Travis Blackwell taking three wickets apiece. In reply Travis Blackwell top scored with 36 in the Nagambie total of 128.

Second placed Nagambie played top side Old Students in E Grade with Old Students the victors in a tight tussle. Jon Mckeown 46, Campbell Baker 22 and Brad Smith 21 led the way with the willow in the Nagambie total of 133. Ryan Ezard continued his impressive form snaring three wickets in the Old Students' score of 6 for 134.

With a loss and a win over the last two matches Nagambie remained in second position at the Christmas break in the Under 14 competition. The round 5 match versus Mooroopna was a low scoring affair. Mooroopna scored 9 for 61 with Nagambie restricted to 4 for 53 at the completion of 25 overs. By comparison the round 6 match was a run bonanza.

Flynn O'Brien 36, Archie Harrison 22 and Ashton Morris 17 were the leading run scorers in the Nagambie total of 2 for 163. Ryan Ezard claimed 3 wickets in the comfortable victory.
