is in Year 10 at Yanco and has previously received a Rural Scholarship from Bendigo Bank Nagambie. The bank’s Board of Directors were so impressed with Darby’s commitment to his studies that they have decided to award him with a further Scholarship of $500.
Darby has also been able to work locally during his school holidays to further assist his learning.
Mrs Johnson said “We’re very proud to be able to provide Scholarships like this to the local community and we thank our customers who enable this. It comes down to the fact that the more people we have banking with us at our Nagambie branch, the more funds we have to return to the community. It really is as simple as that.”

as part of our agriculture class. I enjoy being a part of the Cattle Showstock team preparing cattle for shows and sales. The school has great facilities, nice teachers and it is really interesting meeting students from all over NSW and hearing about their various farming operations, including citrus growers, cropping farms and very large sheep properties in outback NSW. It has been a big adjustment going to boarding school, but there is always something to do and it has definitely made me appreciate home more.” he Darbysaid.
“Our Rural Scholarship was launched in 2019 in recognition of the district’s significant farming community. After running annual Farmers’ events for the last few years from our Heathcote branch, our Board of Directors recognised that there was a real need for this type of Scholarship” Mrs Johnson said.
This is Bryce’s first year at Yanco and he has received $2,500 towards his studies from the local bank, which he has put towards school fees and “Assupplies.youwould expect, the uniform requirements for an Agricultural High School are a bit different to a regular secondary school. We have three uniforms; Formal, which includes a blazer, tie and akubra hat, Travel, which includes a polo shirt, blue jeans and school jacket and our agriculture practical uniform which is long sleeved work shirt, jumper, long khaki work pants with leather boots and a hat to meet the OH&S requirements of working outside on the farm with stock.” Bryce Brycesaid.
“When I am home during holidays, I work parttime with Tyson Bush at Nutrien Ag Solutions and Ben Minogue at DLS. I work as a yard hand, so I go to Shepparton Saleyards every Tuesday and help out at the sale. On non-sale days I help Tyson and Ben in supporting their clients in preparing stock for the markets. I am very grateful to Tyson and Ben for the opportunity to work with them and learn more about the role of a stock agent.” Darby said.
The boys have both been awarded the 2022 Bendigo Bank Nagambie Rural Scholarship which they have put towards the cost of their studies at Yanco Agricultural High School in “We’reNSW. thrilled to be able to offer this Scholarship to both Darby and Bryce.” said Nagambie Branch Manager Teri Johnson.

to improve our way of life. I will be a genuine representative for our communities, your voice to parliament. I will represent the people of the communities of the Euroa electorate: from Kilmore to Benalla, Heathcote to Broadford, and all the wonderful towns between. I’m so excited to have this opportunity. If you see me out and about please come and say hi - I’m always ready to listen to your issues or ideas.
I have lived in the country nearly all my life and understand what it’s like to work and live on the land. I have lived in the area for 14 years. I love this region. After running a family-owned farm at Ancona, my family moved to our own slice of heaven in Strathbogie, just out of Euroa, 5 years ago. We have been incredibly fortunate to raise our two beautiful children on our property here in the beautiful Strathbogie hills. We love being part of the community that has embraced us so warmly. It is the best decision we have made for our family. We wouldn’t trade living in this beautiful region for anything! understand what our communities need to stay strong and resilient. The National party has taken the people of Euroa Electorate for granted for far too long. It’s time our member for parliament reflected the energy and ‘can do’ attitude of the people in this electorate.
I stand for Labor as I passionately believe in the Labor values of social justice, fairness, and equality. I live these values everyday working with our children, educating the next generation, and working in the community. I will bring these values to everything I do should I be lucky enough to represent Euroa in the Victorian Parliament. I will work tirelessly to continue improving our schools and build on the good work already delivered by the Andrews Labor Government in the electorate with the upgrades to our primary and secondary schools. This is what Labor does, every day, we live our values, always put people first and invest in our communities because we believe in Victorians and Victoria. I will work hard day in and day out to support our heroic health and community workers to continue to do the important work of caring for our communities and always advocate for the very best outcomes for our electorate. I will represent all of the varied interests in our electorate to the best of my ability. I will be out in the community listening, learning and finding out how I can best serve the diverse and vibrant communities in the Euroa electorate.

slate roof was in desperate need of repair and the Nagambie branch of the Bendigo Bank were calling for applications from community groups for grant funding. $18,500 was sought and the committee were successful in gaining a challenge grant of $10,000 with the community fundraising the remaining amount.

“The Committee and the community are very grateful to the Heathcote-Nagambie Community Bank, Avenel Active Inc and all stakeholders for providing us with a base to continue restoring Restorationinside.

In 2021 the lease on the Police Residence came to an end and the Avenel Jubilee Park Committee of management under the umbrella of DWELP, who own the land, took on the lease with the vision to continue the restoration of this great heritage building for the whole community to use.
The Jubilee Park Committee is trying to source further funding through the various avenues to upgrade the toilets and kitchen area to include all mobility access for the ever growing community.
During the late 1960’s and early 1970’s the building was decommissioned. Youth groups were formed in the late 1970's and used the Courthouse and Old Police Residence as their hub. When the youth group activities ceased, the buildings began to deteriorate further. Play groups met in the Courthouse but this also ceased in the 1990’s.

The Police residence remained abandoned for almost two decades with much of the interior of the building being ‘stripped’ of its features during this Atime.public meeting was held in the 1980’s to discuss demolition but luckily this was narrowly opposed. However, from this period until 1995 floor boards were ripped up and burnt within the building and mantelpieces torn from the walls.
GV Library along with Avenel Jubilee Park Committee are currently preparing to open a static library and reading/meeting room in two of the completed rooms of the former Police Residence.
“Cracks within the walls, some electrical works, preparation of walls and much more were either donated or completed at a reduced cost allowing painting to commence in the front two rooms. Funding was obtained from Inland rail to prepare and paint these two rooms which are now complete.
Avenel Jubilee Park Committee are working on restoring both these buildings to their former glory, providing much needed community spaces as the population of Avenel continues to grow.
“This historic building is being brought back to life with much love from so many. The committee is truly grateful for the support given but we have much to do to raise funding to complete the restoration works,” ended Anne.
In 1995 the Neighbourhood House applied to use the Police residence as a permanent base and that was accepted. The Neighbourhood House worked tirelessly applying for grants, working towards getting the building to lock up stage with a shell of an added rear extension built. In the year 2000 the Neighbourhood House took over the leasehold for a period of 21 years and further granting opportunities were applied for.
“The community is asking when they can utilise the spaces for book clubs and support group get togethers. The list is growing as the need for more meeting spaces is occurring. The two back rooms are now being painted along with the back timber room however money is quickly disappearing.
The historic Avenel Bridge over the Hughes Creek, with its 6 sandstone arches is a reminder of the architecture of a different era. Hughes Creek in Avenel, for many years, was a popular overnight stop for drovers. The bridge was built in 1859 by contractor Hugh Dalrymple for the Board of Lands and Works in Victoria.
Positioned perfectly in the town centre, two historical buildings stand in Avenel Jubilee Park along Queens street which have weathered time mainly due to the support of the local community.
The historic Avenel Courthouse and the former Police Residence stand alongside each other on Queens street, capturing the interest of all that pass
“An extremely successful fundraiser supported by Carrillo and Ziyin Gantner with Eddie Perfect performing in the Avenel Memorial Hall along with amazing community donations raised the money and the roof is now repaired and waterproof. Success at its greatest,” said Anne.

CATHOLIC:
On Sunday 11th September, St John’s Anglican Church in Nagambie held a commemoration service for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth 11, to acknowledge her 70 years of sovereignty, duty, faithfulness to God and all her people in the United Kingdom, as Queen of Australia and of her realms, and the Commonwealth of Nations.
My soldier husband swore allegiance to her when he joined the Australian Army in June 1966 and proudly carried out that oath for 20 years. So I have loved and respected this amazing woman since I first watched her pass by in St Kilda Road, Melbourne, when she made her first visit to Australia in 1954 as the newly crowned monarch.
In my life time she was not only a (Princess) daughter to King George V1 and the Queen Mother, a sister to Princess Margaret, a wife to Prince Philip, then a mother to two children before she was crowned Queen of the United Kingdom, Queen of Australia and the Commonwealth, then a mother again to two more sons. Later on we saw how she enjoyed becoming a grandmother, and great grandmother and I have admired how she made time for all her family as well as keep her role as MyQueen.life

Reg Dickinson was in attendance for the official side of things and managed to put a ‘choc-top’ away between speeches. I must say I was very impressed with the Rail representatives, who were polite, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable re the Upgrade Project and the 3rd stage to come. Ben Henshall, Delivery Director for Regional Rail Revival, was very keen to show us around. Platform extension (not having to race to the middle carriage to actually get off now), new lighting, asphalted car park - fantastic, looks and is very inviting now.

The official opening of the Stage 2 improvements at Nagambie Railway Station, was hosted by the Regional Rail Revival and V/line. It felt like the Royal Show, with marques, show bags, water bottles, souvenir biscuits, model trains and pens. Catering was part of the ‘gratis’ package, with coffee van, Oliver’s Lane, pumping out great coffees and hot chocolates galore.

A variety of food stalls on-site catered for all tastes, with pancakes and local vendor, Oliver’s Lane Coffee, to top it all off. Surprise, surprise, wine tastings were also in order, with Tahbilk’s fine range on display and another local winery, Boxgrove vineyard, offering tastings and sales. I was curious and asked Sarah Gough of Boxgrove, about Tahbilk letting the ‘opposition’ in? Sarah was very positive about the mature working relationship amongst the local wineries and how the ultimate goal was to promote the whole region, as a premium wine area.

Well, the inaugural TabilkTabilk Community Festival was held on Saturday the 10th of September, on-site at Tahbilk winery. Now before you point out my ‘bad’ spelling, I believe the local indigenous people, of the Taunurung nation, named this area tabilk tabilk, meaning “place of many water holes”. This gave the property its name, but at some early point, the ‘h’ was introduced, as a marketing ploy, in a hope of improving business in Europe.

The theme of the day was all things environmental and sustainable. What they have done at Tahbilk in this regard, is admirable, and puts them ahead of the environmental curve. I spoke with Lachie Thomas, Environment and Vineyard Research Analyst, who holds a degree in Ecology. The aim of the business is to be Carbon-neutral and in fact be Carbon-positive. Capturing more carbon than you emit, is the ultimate goal. Lachie’s main role is to manage and audit the winery's carbon-neutral status. An independent carbon count is conducted each year and an emissions number issued. The revegetation program at Tahbilk is now offsetting their carbon outputs to a point where they look like being carbon-positive at the next audit later this year, a fantastic result.

the Avenel Library will be open to the public in September.
“There is a photosensitive warning for this movie and bookings can only be made online for the film which features Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder, Thor,” Cr Binks said.
Now, I believe being Carbon-Neutral relates to off-setting the ‘carbon’ the manufacturing side of the business produces. This can be done by purchasing carbon-offsets or revegetating via planting trees and grasses, to ‘capture’ carbon from the atmosphere. This eventually returns to the soil and is used in the growth of other plants.

Tahbilk is also building a partnership with the TL&WC, Taungurung Land and Water Council, which allows the indigenous peoples to get back to country. History walks will also be part of the arrangement, where elders will guide and explain to groups, the significance of the lands. Taungurung will also advise Tahbilk regarding strategic burning-off, to minimise bushfire impact and promote regeneration.

Volunteers are hard to come by these days. I recently attended the AGM for the Recreation Reserve, which has a large membership base and hosts several sports, including football, cricket, netball, petanque and junior sport. The overall attendance was poor and the work is left to a small number of dedicated individuals; hats off to them. The committee would love to hear from anyone who is prepared to put in some time to help.
