Since 2012, with the help of our volunteers and the community, Shepparton Foodshare has distributed over 3 million kilos of food to local people in need at an estimated benefit to the community of around $7.5 million. With the coronavirus outbreak in Shepparton, Foodshare is in high demand with requests from community members that are in need of basic essentials to help them get through during their quarantine period. The request for assistance extends far beyond the boundaries of Shepparton, with Foodshare delivering emergency assistance packs to Nagambie, Murchison, Avenel and beyond. In support of Shepparton Foodshare, Go Nagambie and Champions IGA Nagambie have conveniently positioned a produce crate at the front of the store as a collection point for community members to donate non perishable items.

You can help by donating to this food drive. Your donations will go to individuals and families in need. Food items in demand: UHT milk, pasta, rice, cereal, jars of pasta sauce, Vegemite, jam, honey and peanut butter Toiletries/personal hygiene products in demand: Deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, moisturiser, soap, and toothpaste and toothbrushes About Foodshare Foodshare is the only local food rescue agency, there is no other agency offering the services that Foodshare does locally. Foodshare’s role as a food collection, warehousing, redistribution service also relieves businesses from dealing with the 100 agencies who formerly sought support via food/financial donations, streamlining processes for businesses who want to donate, and agencies

who need food for people they support. Foodshare rescues and receives donations of food to redistribute to those in ‘necessitous circumstances’ in the Goulburn Valley and beyond. On average 300,000 kilograms of food is distributed to registered emergency relief agencies, schools, community meals programs and churches annually. The people supported by these agencies include individuals, children, homeless, people from our culturally and linguistically diverse community, including new arrivals and refugees and quite possibly the family next door to you! Shepparton Foodshare is an integral part of a statewide network of food rescue agencies. Reciprocal food swaps and food sharing is conducted weekly. Foodshare supports the shires of Moira, Mitchell, Strathbogie, Wodonga, Albury and metro shires. This collaborative approach ensures a diverse and accessible food supply for all. To deliver this service, Foodshare partners with supermarkets, business and other food rescue agencies state-wide to provide nutritious

food. Foodshare stores the food according to regulation guidelines to extend the shelf life of the donated/rescued food to then provide nutritious meals and prevent edible food entering the waste stream. Due to COVID-19, Shepparton Foodshare quickly had to adapt its operations in order to continue to supply food and keep up with increased demand. Food supply dwindled, resulting in Foodshare having to purchase food, something it has never had to do before. Due to restrictions, and for the safety of all, Foodshare had to move to a ‘food box’ style of distribution as opposed to its regular model whereby agencies visit the warehouse to select what they need. _______________________________________ If you are in the Goulburn Valley and in need of food and essential items whilst in isolation, please contact: GV Cares at - gvcares@gslp.com.au Mobile 0432 517 329 info@sheppartonfoodshare.org.au
