Green Pond Country Club Set To Host the 90th Annual Lehigh Valley Amateur Golf Tournament
By, Sean Fawcett
O
h little town of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, has a great old golf course, and it’s called Green Pond. Nearing it’s One Hundred Years old birthday, Green Pond Country Club is fine example of classic Parkland-style golf that’s open year-round and open to all and is our pick this issue for a “Must Play”. A favorite among area golfers for generations, Green Pond is an Alex Findley designed masterpiece nestled neatly, and almost beautifully, in the rolling scenic countryside of PA’s Lehigh County a short drive from Allentown and East Stroudsburg. At Green Pond, you’ll get the country club experience you want, without the exorbitant prices and membership commitment. Known affectionally as “The Public’s County Club” and measuring anywhere from 5,326 yards to 6,382 yards, and with

weekday greens fees going only about $58 with a cart, and $74 on weekends, Green Pond Country Club offers players from both near and far an early 20th Century golfing experience with a distinct country

club feel for all players of all skill levels to paly and enjoy 365 days a year. “Green Pond is just a great course that’s simply a joy to play,” said Green Pond’s 33-year PGA professional, and 2003 Golf Digest “Best Teachers in Pennsylvania”, John Kulhamer. “Built in 1929 by the great Scottish architect Alex Findlay, Green pond is a wonderful example of the classic, old early 20th Century golf brought to America by the early Scottish pros, like Donald Ross, featuring a challenging, but fair, layout. It’s tree-lined, plays only about 6,200 yards, and has a nice variety of short and long holes, doglegs, and a little of everything you would expect.” Home of the Lehigh Valley Amateur Golf Tournament, begun in 1934, same year as the opening of The Masters’ Invitational at Augusta National, and postponed for
1941-1945, for World War II, just like The Masters, the Lehigh Valley Amateur will tee off for it’s 90th time beginning on September 17th and through September 29th. “We can’t wait for this year’s Lehigh Valley Amateur,” said Kulhamer. “ This will be our 90th annual tournament, like The Masters. It’s one of the oldest Amateurs around. Steve Klumper is going for his third straight Lehigh Valley championship. We’ve had six Back-to-Back champions in the past and none since Jim Reynolds in the 1940s, and Steve is trying for Back-to-Back-to-
Back for the first time. We usually have more than 400 competitors. Last year was a little down, with only about 370-some players participating, but we’re back to over 400, probably because it’s the 90th. It’s shaping up to be exciting championship. We’re all really looking forward to it.” Players in this year’s LV Amateur, and any other player any other day, and time, of the year will really enjoy playing the Findley designed golf course. A fan of the old Scottish masters, I thoroughly enjoyed my walk around the Findley course, and I know that you will, as well.
The course hits you right off the tee with the nearly 600-yard long Par 5 2nd hole. A straight-away Par 5, playing 541 yards from the Whites. The hole features Out-of-Bound all down the left with trees all the way down the right. “Two is a terrific Par-5,” said Kulhamer. “ You have room to the right, and can still make par, and maybe even birdie, from there. But six is not a bad number on that one, either..” The best stretch at Green Pond, and maybe Kulhamer’s favorite part of the course is the Close of the Front Nine, holes 8 and 9. Both Par Fours, and going about 400 yards, each, Holes 8 and 9, featuring Findley’s signature subtle doglegs to the right, these two holes will challenge the good golfers, demanding accuracy off the tee and well-struck second shots from distance on their approach. When you play Green Pond, you’re playing one of the old-style golf courses by one of the original Scottish golf course architects from that Golden Age. If you enjoy the challenge of playing a n absolute classic from the early days of American Golf, make sure to give Green Pond a try. Tee it high and let it fly! Crystal Springs Resort Dominates Golfweek 2026 Rankings Three Top 12 Spots Fueling Growth with Over $2M in Upgrades and State-of-the-Art Trackman Expansion
C
rystal Springs Resort, the Northeast’s largest golf resort destination, is thrilled to announce that three of its premier courses have been named to the highly anticipated Golfweek Best of 2026 rankings for public-access courses in New Jersey. Cementing its status as a world-class golf hub, Crystal Springs Resort claimed three of the Garden State’s top 12 spots, including the coveted No. 1 overall ranking · Ballyowen (No. 1 in NJ): Designed by renowned architect Roger Rulewich, this spectacular Celtic-style links course once again took the state’s top honor, offering golfers a pristine Irish-heathlands experience in the rolling hills of Sussex County. Over the past year, the course has earned high praise from Forbes.com and media entrepreneur Garrett Clark of Good Good Golf. · Crystal Springs Course (Tied for No. 8):

·
Known for its dramatic elevation changes and stunning natural water features, this rugged, scenic layout continues to be a favorite among regional golfers. Wild Turkey (No. 12): This Roger Rulewich basin and ridge design provides an exhilarating challenge with wide fairways and distinct risk-reward opportunities.
“Having three of our courses recognized by Golfweek is a tremendous testament to our superintendents who maintain championshiplevel conditions year-round,” said Art Walton, VP of Golf Operations at Crystal Springs Resort. “But we aren’t standing still—we are actively investing millions to ensure our facilities match these world-class accolades.” Nearly $2 Million Invested in Championship Conditions To maintain the high standards celebrated by Golfweek panelists, Crystal Springs Resort has implemented an extensive capital

improvement plan. By the end of 2026, the resort will have invested nearly $1 million in comprehensive bunker renovations specifically at Ballyowen, Black Bear and Wild Turkey. An additional $1 million-plus has been funneled into vital turf and player-experience improvements across the properties, including upgraded irrigation systems, cart path replacements, tee-box leveling and targeted tree removal. Bridging Heritage and Tech: The Black Bear Trackman Range As modern players seek a blend of gamified practice and social engagement, Crystal Springs Resort is answering the call at Black Bear Golf Club. The state-of-the-art Black Bear Trackman Range, which successfully launched late last year, is expanding its hours of operation to accommodate surging demand. The advanced practice facility features: · Next-Gen Tracking Technology:
·
·
14 fully equipped Trackman Launch Pads featuring German-designed radar tracking technology, supported by the industry’s most advanced virtual golf, practice, and entertainment software. Championship Practice Spaces: A fully lighted driving range for night practice, natural grass tees, and a dedicated shortgame practice complex. Premier Player Services: Complimentary instructional events, 24-hour club re-gripping services, and
cutting-edge virtual golf gaming. This high-tech range represents a major leap forward in game improvement, stripping away the intimidation factor of the sport and making elite, data-driven golf accessible to players of all skill levels.
Nurturing Golf ’s Next Generation These massive infrastructure and technology investments align perfectly with shifts in golf demographics. Nationally, the 18-to-34 age bracket now represents about
a quarter of all on-course golfers, officially surpassing the over-65 demographic to become the sport’s largest age group. “This surge has been driven by access to public golf courses, the positive influence of social media, and a dramatic increase in female participation,” notes Walton. “Crucially, 45% of all female golfers are now under 35 years old. Our investments at Black Bear are tailor-made to welcome this highly social, tech-minded crowd.” Ensuring these newer players have a clear path to mastery, the world-renowned Leadbetter Golf Academy at Crystal Springs continues to experience unprecedented demand. Led by a staff of elite certified instructors, the Academy has established itself as a hub for excellent competitive talent. Current student success stories include Aphrodite Deng, currently ranked No. 12 in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking, and 11-year-old phenom Ava Chen. Chen, recently highlighted in Golf Digest, began training two years ago with Golf Magazine Top 100 and Golf Digest Best in State instructor Sean Hogan, highlighting the incredible development pipeline built right into the resort’s DNA. From the First Tee to the Last Green: A Teen’s Guide to Golf
N
ew book introduces young readers to the game’s history, strategy, architecture, and enduring connection to nature Back Nine Press will publish From the First Tee to the Last Green: A Teen’s Guide to Golf, a hardcover book by golf course architect Andrew Green and writer Lee Carr. Written for teens, their families, new golfers, coaches, and anyone curious about how the game works, the book brings together golf history, course design, strategy, famous courses, drawing exercises, and personal stories from a life spent around the game. The book—which will be released on November 1-- arrives as interest in junior golf continues to grow. National Golf Foundation research reports that in 2025 nearly four million juniors played golf on a course, the highest total since 2004, and that junior participation has increased 58 percent since 2019. At a time when more young people are discovering the sport through on-course play, off-course golf experiences, school programs, and community organizations, From the First Tee to the Last Green gives readers an accessible way to understand not only how to play, but why golf has captivated generations. The book explores how a swing, a course, and the history of the game all connect—and invites teens to sketch, imagine, and dream about the future of the game. “I wrote this book for young people who are curious about the game, whether they’re picking up a club for the first time or already dreaming about where golf might take them,” said Green, who grew up doodling golf holes in the margins of his high school notebooks before earning degrees in Turfgrass Management and Landscape Architecture from Virginia Tech and building a career as one of today’s most sought-after golf course architects. Green added, “Golf has a way of teaching lessons that reach far beyond the scorecard. It teaches patience, creativity, perseverance, and respect for the people and places that make the game so special. My hope is that this book helps the next generation enjoy the game a little more and perhaps inspires future golfers, superintendents, architects, or caretakers of the sport.” www. back9press.com

Amazing Mays XII
A Jersey Shore Classic is Reborn By, Sean Fawcett
R
esurrected and wonderfully re-imagined from the old Mays Landing Golf and Country Club, the newly renovated and recently re-opened Mays XII is an absolute joy to play, and a totally unique, and improved, property for the Atlantic City area that’s ready to reclaim its historical, and rightful, place atop the famed Jersey Shore Community of golfing meccas. Originally conceived, and constructed, in the early 1960s by former PGA of America President, Leo Fraser, long-time owner of nearby Atlantic City Country Club, Mays XII is a thoughtfully designed 12-hole golf course created for a more relaxed and accessible playing experience designed to appeal and accommodate all players of all skill levels. Mays XII offers a unique 12-hole layout

designed to deliver a relaxed yet engaging golf experience. Whether you’re playing a quick loop or taking your time on the greens, Mays XII is built to make each and every visit enjoyable and most memorable. New owner Frank Ruocco, owner of

nearby Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point, along with several investors bought the old Mays Landing Golf and Country Club, shut down since the days of Covid, put some 8 Million into modernizing the clubhouse, pro shop and restaurant, now Lascala’s, while retaining much of the Frasers’ timeless design that was so popular and beloved among generations of Mays Landing and visiting golfers for so long. A massive synthetic putting green with Putting Course, is chief among the exciting new additions and upgrades featured at Mays XII. “The goal was to build a great new course for the public with the first-class amenities, service and feel of a private golf club,” said Mays XII’s PGA Director of Golf
Nate Przestrelski. “The improvements that Frank (Ruocco) and our Superintendent Ron Montgomery have instituted are really incredible. People are going to be blown away.” With six of the original holes destined for future residential development, Mays XII’s unique twelve-hole routing, the only one of its kind in the Region, fits its very own, and special, kind of niche that other area Nine Hole courses, some Executive Length or Par 3 Only, just don’t. “The holes are the same as people will probably remember, only better,” said Przestrzelski. “ We’re not an Executive Course. There are just 12 holes now instead of 18. I think that makes us stand out from other courses in the area, and I think it’s a good thing. “The condition of the course is vastly improved. The clubhouse and pro shop are both brand new. The new Lascala’s
Restaurant is a great place to eat. The patio out back is a terrific area for entertaining and for weddings and large events, also.” Sure to become one of the Shore’s best places to play once again, Mays XII Golf Course, while retaining, and embracing, its once glorious history, has its eye laser focused on the Present and a bright, and hopeful, and promising new Future. If you’re looking for a challenging, historical, fun, and new golfing experience when visiting the Shore, don’t overlook Mays XII Golf Course. You will be very happy if you decide to tee it up there. hen kids think something is really cool these days, they all seem to like to say that “it’s Fire”. Well, one of the hottest things going in the World of Golf today is Indoor Simulator Clubs, and one of the hottest, or coolest, or “fire” clubs in South Jersey is the brand new Fire Golf Club. And it’s located on, you guessed it, Fire Road in Egg Harbor Township. Only recently opened, Fire Golf Club is the very first of its kind anywhere around the Atlantic City Region, one of the nation’s oldest, and original, golfing destinations. The first of its kind anywhere south of Toms River, and north all the way to Cape May, Fire Golf Club is simply a sensational, stunning, state-of-the-art, membersonly Simulator and Entertainment Club designed for golf lovers who take both their

Golf and Leisure Time very seriously. Fire Golf Club features eight, fully immersive, Golfzon Two-Vision NX simulators, a massive PuttView putting green complete with slopes, and a private performance studio equipped with technology for teaching and clubfitting. The Club also includes a totally inviting Lounge-style atmosphere with wall-sized TV, bar, kitchen and other amenities. Membership includes exclusive 24/7 access with a secluded, country club-like atmosphere. Founders Adam Saad and Miro Kesic decided to turn their passion into a reality, envisioning a modern, tech-laden space that would not only serve as a golfing haven, but also evoke
the cozy, clandestine atmosphere of a speakeasy from the Prohibition Era of the nearby, and world-famous, 1920s AC Boardwalk. Fire Golf represents their vision to turn Golf and Friendship into more than an outdoor sport. Head PGA golf professional, Jason Lamp, a long-time fixture of The Shore, himself, with 37 years of PGA golf management experience starting at Blue Heron Pines Golf Club in the 90s, Deal Country Club in Monmouth County, and most recently for more than a de at prestigious Galloway National, Lamp and his experienced team of golf professionals, like Assistant Manager Eli Wasilauskas, are on hand and ready to serve their members with all their golfing needs. This place is truly incredible. “The Atlantic City Region is one the places where Golf began here in the States, so it just made sense to put this here at The Jersey Shore. “The future of Golf is places like Fire Golf Club. Besides the fun of playing on the simulators, and putting on our spacious PuttView putting green, and everything else, we offer topquality instruction and master club-fitting for every, and any, brand you can think of. Plus, members have 24/7 Access. It really has everything a golfer would want. The Performance Studio at Fire Golf Club is where technology, experience, and precision come together to help you play your best golf. aspect of the game—from full-swing mechanics and ball flight optimization to short game, putting, and course strategy. Each session is customized to your skill level and goals, ensuring measurable improvement and long-term results. “The opportunities that have for players to improve their Games with our Instruction and Club-Fitting technology and know-how is just incredible. We can fit people with all the latest and greatest from every manufacturer out there.” Using the most advanced technology available, including high-speed swing cameras, top quality launch monitors, and 3D motion-capture systems, Fire Golf delivers precise feedback that helps players to understand their swings like never before. Lamp and his professionals interpret the data, explain what it means for their performance, and guide golfers through practical, effective adjustments that translate to real results on the course. Additionally, for members looking to increase their physical performance, Fire Golf Club offers personal, and tailored Strength & Conditioning Coaching in partnership with OTG, our neighboring highperformance training facility. Private 1-on-1 sessions focus on the physical foundations of better golf—mobility, rotation, balance, power, and injury prevention and increasing swing speed and physical stability to help players to move better and thus, swing faster and hit the ball further and lower scores. “We’re a full-service Club,” said Lamp. “Our mission is to improve people’s games and enhance the enjoyment of playing this wonderful game we all love.” For more information go to www.firegolfclub.com www.GolfingMagazine.net

Discover Woodloch Legacy Resort Collection A Unique Experience in Pennsylvania’s Poconos
By TOM LANDERS
We recently had the opportunity to visit Woodloch Legacy Resort Collection in Hawley, Pennsylvania. This three-resort destination, nestled in the scenic Pocono Mountains, is an easy 2 ½-hour drive from central CT and central New Jersey, and 90 miles from New York City. Originally founded in 1958 on just a few acres, the resort has grown significantly over the decades and remains in the hands of the Kiesendahl family, who have preserved its emphasis on family values and personalized service. Woodloch Legacy Resort Collection, often referred to specifically by its family-focused segment, The Pines at Woodloch, is a family-friendly, all-inclusive resort where virtually every aspect of your stay — from comfortable accommodations and hearty meals to an extensive schedule of daily activities — is included in a comprehensive package. Families
can choose from a range of lodging options, including standard hotel rooms, spacious suites, and even larger vacation-style houses available both on the main property and nearby. Many of these accommodations overlook the resort›s beautiful lake or wooded surroundings, offering a peaceful backdrop to your Pocono getaway. Dining at The Pines is part of the inclusive experience, with multiple meals served daily in the resort›s communal dining rooms. This setup removes the hassle of planning or booking restaurants, letting guests focus instead on enjoying their vacation together. One standout feature of the resort is its diverse activity program, which draws comparisons to «a cruise on land» because of its robust daily schedule. Guests of all ages can participate in more than 30 activities per day, including arts and
crafts, sports, games, themed events, and evening entertainment — all led by engaging and enthusiastic staff. The property includes indoor and outdoor pools, nature trails, playgrounds, an adventure park with climbing structures, miniature golf, bumper boats and go-karts, tennis courts, fishing docks, and seasonal attractions like snow tubing and scenic boat tours. It›s the kind of place where families can easily spend entire days without leaving the property, yet also discover idyllic spots for quiet moments together. The Country Club at Woodloch Springs, often simply called The Springs at Woodloch, is a golf resort and semi-private community set among the rolling hills and forested landscapes of the Pocono Mountains. Roughly two miles from the family-focused Pines, this property combines scenic beauty,

well-designed golf, and comfortable accommodations to create a full-service getaway for golfers and non-golfers alike. At the heart of the resort experience is a championshipcaliber 18-hole, par-72 golf course that stretches 6,579 yards through lush wetlands, ferncarpeted forests and broad upland meadows. Designed by renowned architect Rocky Roquemore, the layout has earned national recognition from Golf Magazine, Golf Digest (4.5 stars), and Distinguished Golf Destinations as one of America›s premier golf experiences. The course offers impeccable greens and fairways, exquisite mountain target golf, holes cut through the lush mountaintop, and splendid views of the area. One of the most memorable
aspects of the golf course is its signature 14th hole, a challenging 220-yard carry over «Hell›s Gate Gorge,» where golfers must navigate a dramatic ravine carved by water hundreds of feet below. This and other strategically designed holes appeal to golfers of all skill levels, with four sets of tees and varied pin placements offering flexibility for both novices and seasoned players.
Beyond the course itself, The Springs at Woodloch emphasizes skill development and year-round play. A 16-acre practice facility and a state-of-the-art indoor performance simulator support instruction, improvement, and club fittings regardless of the weather. The clubhouse at The Springs serves as a social and dining hub. Golfers and guests can relax with meals and drinks before or after rounds, and food-andbeverage service is offered both at the clubhouse and on-course during peak season. The Springs at Woodloch isn›t just about golf; it›s also a resort community. The property features roughly 70 vacation rental homes ranging from two to five bedrooms, each offering spacious living areas, fully equipped kitchens, fireplaces, and proximity to the golf course and clubhouse. Access to additional resort amenities — including pools, tennis, bocce, www.GolfingMagazine.net

and scheduled activities — enhances the experience for everyone in your group, whether or not they play golf. Golf packages, including stayand-play options, allow visitors to combine lodging with rounds of golf and use of facilities at both the Springs and Pines. This makes it a compelling choice for multiday trips with friends, families, or corporate groups. The third component of Woodloch Legacy Resort Collection is The Lodge at Woodloch, a luxury, adults-only spa resort and wellness facility. Unlike the nearby family-oriented Pines, The Lodge at Woodloch is designed for guests aged 16 and older, making it an ideal escape for adults seeking quiet, rejuvenation, and mindful self-care in a serene natural setting. The Lodge combines upscale accommodations, world-class spa facilities, and holistic experiences to create a comprehensive wellness retreat. The Lodge›s philosophy centers on personal awakening — giving guests a chance to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and embrace a balanced

ROAD TRIP
Plan a Pure Florida Golf Vacation
By DAVID THEORET
G
olfers heading to the Gulf Coast of Florida on a golf vacation should strongly consider the Port Charlotte/Englewood Beach area. There are more than 20 golf courses in the area worth considering; most are high-quality, semi-private facilities. Here’s what I would consider a fun and challenging itinerary. Every good golf vacation starts with a good base camp, an establishment with comfortable accommodations and good food. The Sunseeker Resort in Punta Gorda has everything you’ll need for this golf vacation, and a whole lot more, including one of the most challenging golf courses on the Gulf Coast. More about that in a minute. Our trip started with adjoining rooms in one of their SunSuite Towers, with a stunning view of Charlotte Harbor. Each unit sleeps four people and features two large-screen TVs, a Nespresso coffee maker, a complete kitchen, balcony, and plenty of space. There’s a large resort pool, a couple of hot tubs, and your favorite adult beverage available at every turn. A premium resort needs premium dining, and Sunseeker does not disap-
point, with 15 world-class options for dining and drinking. Choose from standalone restaurants, a multi-dining food hall, poolside venues, and several bars and lounges that serve over 200 globally- inspired dishes. The premier dining option at Sunseeker resort is unquestionably Stretto Italian Chophouse. It’s a place where high-quality, premium-aged beef meets handmade, gourmet Italian dishes. Throw in several premium seafood selections, such as twin lobster tails and sea scallops, and you’ve got Stretto. The service is impeccable, and the wine collection of 200+ bottles is quite impressive. The Stadium Club is the place to watch your favorite sporting event. They offer true classic American dishes like chicken wings and fried chicken, and with over 40 TVs, three large central screens, and a state-of-the-art sound system, you’ll feel like you’re actually at the game! If none of this tempts your taste buds, check out the 10 venues at The Harbor Yard Food Hall with everything from a seafood raw bar to Mexican and Asian dishes.
Cap off the evening and satisfy that sweet tooth with one of the many freshly made gelatos and handmade crepes offered at Charlotte Parlor, or watch as Sunseeker’s talented pastry chefs create delectable French pastries at Sweet Shine. One of the many amenities available at the Sunseeker Resort is golf. Back when Allegiant Airlines owned the resort, they purchased Kingsway Country Club, located just east of I-75 and about 15 minutes from the main resort. According to General Manager Aaron Merritt, they took the course “down to the studs,” basically leveling it. Renowned designer Kip Schultes was brought in to build the new course re-named Aileron Golf Club, and what he has created is nothing less than a masterpiece. You would be hardpressed to find a course as well-maintained in the entire state. They recently hosted Florida’s 65th Senior Amateur Championship, and they are currently in discussions with LIV and the LPGA to host events in the near future. Overall, I would say the course is player-friendly, especially the front nine. It’s wide open, and low scores can be had. To me, the biggest challenge is the greens; they can be lightning fast,

with very few straight putts. All of the holes are named around the aeronautical industry; Tailspin is Aileron’s answer to Amen’s Corner and is a tough stretch with a par 4, a par 5, and a par 3. Stratolaunch, the par 5, 3rd hole is one of the longest par 5s in the state, at 664 yards. This hole isn’t about getting cute
or taking shortcuts; it’s about survival! It’s going to take three of your best shots to reach the green in regulation. Equally important as distance off the tee is keeping the ball in play; water comes into play on every hole. The green has some great undulation, and even short putts can leave you scratching your head. Aileron is
Webbs a fun and challenging test of golf.Reserve If you don’t mind venturing away from your base camp, I strongly suggest booking a round at either Babcock National or Webb’s Reserve Golf Club. Webb’s Reserve is a Nicklaus Design masterpiece, and, as Nicklaus courses go, this one is very tame! The layout features wide open fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and modestly undulated greens. There’s water on every hole, but for the most part, it’s easily avoidable. The layout is still pretty new, so the fairways and greens are firm and fast. Webb’s Reserve’s signature hole is #12, a 163-yard par 3 that is all carry over a lake into a green that slopes significantly from back to front. It’s one of the most challenging par 3s in the area! Webbs Reserve is home to one of only two Toptracer Aqua Ranges in the world (Glynlea Country Club in Port St. Lucie, FL is the other). Toptracer technology allows players to 17th hit into The Club at River Oaks, Holethe water and track every shot in real-time www.GolfingMagazine.net

ROAD TRIP via an app on their phone, maximizing each practice session. You can also play interactive games or virtual rounds on the world’s best golf courses. Currently, there is no food available at the golf club. Construction began in mid-January on a new 27,000 sq. ft. clubhouse that is due to open in early 2027. If you’re hungry – or thirsty – after your round , head over to the Lakehouse Kitchen & Bar at Babcock Ranch. It’s a casual, waterfront American restaurant that offers a relaxed atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the lake. The Lakehouse serves fresh, modern American comfort food—like burgers, seafood, and brunch dishes— alongside craft cocktails, beer, and wine. With scenic views and a friendly vibe, it’s the perfect laid-back gathering spot for you and your golf group. After checking out of the Sunseeker Resort, head to Riverwood Golf Club in Port Charlotte. Riverwood is located in Port Charlotte and has been referred to as a “best-kept secret” in Southwest Florida, even though it has received numerous accolades from highly regarded golf media outlets, including multiple “Top 50 in the U.S.” recognitions. The course is set along the scenic Myakka River corridor and weaves its way through protected wetlands, pine forests, and several nature preserves. It’s been called a shot-maker’s course and favors brains over brawn. The Bermuda grass fairways and greens are always in great shape, with practice facilities that
Riverwood Golf C;ub
let you hone every part of your game, including a full-length driving range, a short game area with bunker, and a practice putting green. With five sets of tees, Riverwood is playable for players of all skill levels. Riverwood is nature’s golf at its best and features two contrasting nines. The front nine has a parkland feel and is routed through dense pine stands and tree-lined fairways. You’ll need accuracy off the tee and good distance control on approach shots, as the landing areas are smaller. The back nine brings wetlands, lakes, and salt marshes into play. As you leave Riverwood, take a left onto El Jobean Rd, and then head down the street to The Twisted Fork for one of
the best restaurant/entertainment experiences on the Gulf Coast. In addition to a menu that spans just about every type of comfort food you can imagine (and served in large portions), The Twisted Fork features an outdoor entertainment venue that has hosted numerous nationally recognized acts. It has to be seen to be believed. What I’ve just detailed would be a quick weekend getaway on some of the nicest courses in the “Pure Florida” region. For more information, visit www. PureFlorida.com, where you can check out all of the golf courses in the area and anything else your heart desires in a Florida vacation.

Team USA at the 2026 Pickleball World Cup Meet the TEAM USA Sponsors My most comfortable Golf Shoes ever. Paddltek TKO-X Paddle and Style! Adidas Eyewear Bourbon & Golf - Elijah Craig Team USA looks to defend at the Pickleball World Cup Pickleball World Cup heads to Da Nang, Vietnam, August 30 – Sept. 6. You have got to love the enthusiasm of US National Pickleball leading up to the Pickleball World Cup, and why the heck not! Team USA pulled off the Golden Sweep in 2025, clinching top honors across the three main team categories: Juniors, Seniors, and the highly touted Open Category. With that I will affectionately affirm the title of “The Big Dill.” Two very accomplished Picklers, Steve Rose and Kyle Yates are leading the way in coordinating, organizing and even fund raising for the team of 42 players and coaches 44
to Vietnam. Steve is a multiple medalist at prestigious events like Nationals, and the US Open. In 2024, Steve captained Team USA to a Gold Medal in the Senior Pro Division at the Pickleball World Cup in Lima, Peru, triumphing over teams from 20 countries. Steve will be part of the 60+ team this year. Kyle, was one of the most dominant men’s pickleball players from 2014 to 2018 and in recognition of his achievements was inducted into the Pickleball Hall of Fame in 2024. In 2014 at age 19, Yates competed in his first USA Pickleball (USAPA) National Tournament and won gold in the men’s doubles 19+ division. He won the grand slam of men’s pro doubles in 2016: the US Open, Tournament of Champions, and the USAPA Nationals. He won six US Open pro doubles titles, and was named World Pickleball Federation (WPF) #1 ranked dou-

bles player in 2018. Team USA will be on route to Vietnam with 5 Teams, Professional, 50+, 60+ 18 & Up, 14 & Up – Five Teams, One Nation, One Goal, GOLD. A new era of American Pickleball begins with the 2026 World Cup. For the first time ever, the event will Feature a Professional Division, alongside the next generation of talent and legendary competitors representing the United State on the world stage. How the Pickleball World Cup has grown, 20 Teams in 2024, 68 Teams in 2025 and for 2026 there will be over 80 Countries participating, 4,000 plus athletes. The fastest growing sport in the world. If you are on Instagram, check out the @usnatioanlpickleball for and inspirational rundown of the player representing the RED, WHITE & BLUE.
In 2025 Canada enhanced the North American presence with Top 8 finishes in all 3 Divisions, including a Bronze for the 50+ Seniors and a 4th place for the Junior’s and Open Teams. Team Canada was not supported by its governing bodies in 2025, sighting short notice. That was supposed to change for 2026. One year later, I guess that wasn’t enough time as the Canadian team is once again unfunded. Canada will have a Team in the Open Division and in the 50+. The Junior Team was all but removed from participating until at the last minute a leader in Canadian Pickleball, Appollo Pickleball stepped up to save the Junior Team and is in fact going to Vietnam. So, while Team USA’s Instagram is all about the fire of the Red, White and Blue, players from Team Canada are encouraging supporters with a Go Fund Me link. Support Team Canada at the Pickleball World Cup Pickleball World Cup will be held in Asia for the very first time this year, taking place from August 30th to September 6, 2026 at the Tiên Son Sports Center and other venues across the city of Da Nang, Vietnam. The
Da Nang Pickleball Federation announced the landmark event coming to Vietnam — further proof of the country’s growing reputation as a pickleball epicentre not only in Southeast Asia, but in Asia as a whole. According to Tran Phuoc Son, Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Council and Chairman of the Da Nang
Pickleball Federation, the city’s hosting of the Pickleball World Cup later this year proves that the sport’s top hierarchy recognises Da Nang’s capability to organise an event of this magnitude. Hadded that it is a great opportunity for Da Nang to showcase its image to the world and promote its tourism and sports economy. Further, the Pickleball World Cup 2026 will feature both national and individual categories across multiple age groups and skill levels, according to Hercilio Cabieses, CEO of the Pickleball World Cup. He added that Da Nang’s favourable natural conditions, modern infrastructure, and strong support from local authorities make it the perfect location for such a worldclass sporting event. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Da Nang is widely seen in Vietnam as a pioneer in pickleball development, having been the first locality to establish a city-level pickleball federation in March 2025. The city also has a track record in hosting big events, having previously staged major international competitions such as Ironman and the Da Nang International Marathon. All the best to Team USA in Da Nang. For more information wwwThePickleballWorldCup.com

The release expands on the Honeyfoam architecture first introduced earlier this year through Paddletek’s limited-edition Reserve series and signals the company’s broader commitment to foam-core innovation as competition intensifies across the premium paddle category. The Honeyfoam TKO-X incorporates a three-foam internal structure engineered to improve dwell time, sweet spot consistency, and energy return while maintaining a softer feel on contact. The paddle combines an EPP foam core with strategically placed EVA foam zones and perimeter reinforcement designed to enhance stability and forgiveness during high-speed play. Additional features include a T700 raw carbon fiber surface intended to maximize spin generation and a shock-absorbing edge system for vibration dampening. Paddletek has simultaneously expanded its professional athlete roster, adding players including Connor Garnett, Riley Newman, and Zane Navratil as the brand looks to strengthen its competitive positioning within the rapidly evolving performance paddle market. Bourbon Lovers Take Note! Elijah Craig Expands PGA of America Partnership With 2026 Championship Release Leveraging its longstanding relationship with the PGA of America by launching a limited-edition bourbon tied to the 2026 PGA Championship, strengthening a partnership that continues to integrate premium spirits into major championship golf. This past May, commemorating the 108th playing of the PGA Championship, The Heaven Hill Distillery introduced a 108-proof Small Batch Bourbon. The release marks the latest activation in a multi‑year agreement between Elijah Craig and the PGA of America that spans the PGA Championship, KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, PGA National Club Championship, and other major events. According to executives, the commemorative bottling is designed to reinforce Elijah Craig’s presence both on‑site during championship week and in the retail marketplace leading up to the event. The bourbon is produced from a small batch of barrels selected from Heaven Hill’s N and S rickhouses in Bardstown, Kentucky, and is bottled at a higher‑than‑standard proof to match the championship milestone. The packaging features co‑branding with the PGA Championship and Aronimink Golf Club, including a custom cork topper bearing the host club’s logo, positioning the bottle as both a collectible and a tournament tie‑in.
experience,” Ernie Vilar, senior director of global partnerships for the PGA of America, said in announcing the release, noting that the partnership allows fans and spectators to engage with the event beyond the course through licensed products.
For the PGA of America, the release represents another example of how partner brands are being woven into the overall fan and hospitality experience. Elijah Craig is expected to have visibility across corporate hospitality areas, on‑course activations, and consumer‑facing promotions during championship week.
The initiative reflects a broader trend within the golf industry, as governing bodies and event organizers increasingly collaborate with premium consumer brands to create limited‑edition products that extend championship storytelling and generate incremental revenue. Spirits brands, in particular, have become significant players in golf sponsorships due to the sport’s hospitality environment and demographic alignment. Elijah Craig has steadily expanded its footprint in golf through player partnerships and event‑specific releases, while Heaven Hill Distillery continues to position the brand as a cornerstone of its sports and lifestyle marketing strategy.
