THE LOIRE VALLEY DURING WORLD WAR II
The Loire Valley played a significant role during World War II, serving as a crucial line between occupied and Free France.
Many châteaux, including Chambord and Cheverny, were used to store France’s national treasures to protect them from Nazi looting. The British and American armies played a pivotal role in liberating the region,. The area also became a hub for the French Resistance. Today, visitors can explore war memorials, museums and underground resistance sites.
THE HISTORY OF LES BORDES
Les Bordes is steeped in rich history, with roots from medieval France Originally part of a royal hunting estate, the land was frequented by nobility for centuries, taking advantage of the abundant forests and pristine lakes.
In the late 20th-century, the estate was transformed by Baron Marcel Bich, the French industrialist known for founding Bic, the world-renowned pen and lighter brand. Under his vision, Les Bordes became a golf destination to improve the finest amateur and professional golfers in France. The site was chosen as Baron Bich was convinced the value of silence and lack of light pollution was going to become more precious in the years ahead. Many of Morgan’s clients came to Les Bordes as often as possible before it became a private club with just a handful of members.
