More than 40 guests took part in a shotgun tournament across the new course at SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort, becoming some of the first players to experience the layout following its official opening. Designed by Ryder Cup legend Manuel Piñero, the Par-3 features holes ranging from approximately 80 to 200 metres. Created for golfers of all ages and abilities, it offers a relaxed and accessible introduction to the game for beginners and families while providing experienced players with an
opportunity to sharpen their iron play and short game. The opening represents another milestone in the continued transformation of The Alto Club. The new course sits alongside its 18-hole course, Golf Academy and Toptracerequipped driving range to complete its Golf & Academy offering. Pettersen, Global Ambassador of The Alto Club Golf Academy, joined the opening celebrations alongside Spanish professional Quirós, bringing together two prominent names in European golf for the occasion. Stéphane Menou, General Manager of SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort and The Alto Club, said: “The opening of our new Par-3 course is an important step in the development of The Alto Club. We want to

A Remarkable Transformation In just a few years, La Hacienda Links Golf Resort has established itself among Europe’s leading golf destinations, with a growing collection of international awards and rankings reflecting its remarkable rise.
www.thegolfguide.co.uk
There are few settings in European golf quite like La Hacienda. Looking across the Mediterranean towards Gibraltar and the coast of North Africa, the resort occupies almost two kilometres of coastline in San Roque, surrounded by some of the most celebrated names in Spanish golf. Yet the La Hacienda of today is markedly different from the Alcaidesa Golf Club that previously occupied this spectacular location. A major programme of investment and redevelopment has transformed the resort, with the renovation of its flagship Links Course at the heart of the project. Originally designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark, the course underwent an extensive redesign by American architect Kurtis Bowman before reopening in June 2022. Tees, greens and bunkers were remodelled, several holes redesigned and one of Spain’s largest putting areas created. The result retained the extraordinary coastal setting while establishing a thoroughly modern linksstyle course capable of standing alongside Europe’s finest.
NEWS & FEATURES
The transformation hasn’t stopped there. The neighbouring Heathland Course has undergone its own programme of improvements, while investment across the resort has brought upgraded practice facilities and the striking Calma halfway house overlooking the Mediterranean. The opening of the five-star Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol in February 2025 completed another important piece of the picture, bringing luxury accommodation, villas, restaurants and extensive wellness facilities alongside La Hacienda’s two 18-hole courses. International Recognition Perhaps the clearest indication of how far La Hacienda has travelled, however, can be found in the recognition it is now receiving beyond the Costa del Sol. The resort has entered Golf World’s Top 100 Golf Resorts in the World at No.94, while also being ranked 16th in Golf World’s Top 100 Luxury Golf Resorts in Europe. National Club Golfer places La Hacienda
23rd among the Top 100 Golf Resorts in Continental Europe, while Top100GolfCourses includes it among the Top 10 courses in Southern Spain. Most recently, the Links has also been placed 67th in Golf World’s Top 100 X-Factor Courses, recognising courses distinguished by their setting and visual impact. Those rankings follow two significant World Golf Awards successes: the Links was named Spain’s Best Golf Course in 2023, before Calma received the title of World’s Best Halfway House in 2024. La Hacienda is also part of the European Tour Destinations network, one of only three Spanish venues to hold the distinction and the only links-style course in Andalusia. From the transformation of the Links to the arrival of Fairmont and a growing collection of international accolades, La Hacienda has evolved into a complete modern golf resort and a destination now earning recognition on the European and world stage. www.lahaciendagolf.com

A new era for Duquesa Following an extensive transformation, Duquesa Golf is entering a new chapter. With its renovated Robert Trent Jones course joined by a boutique hotel, new dining and fitness facilities and the arrival of Duquesa Green, the historic Costa del Sol venue is evolving into a destination built around golf, Mediterranean living and much more. Set between the Mediterranean and the natural landscape of Manilva, Duquesa Golf has long enjoyed one of the most distinctive locations on the western Costa del Sol. Its
18-hole Robert Trent Jones course sits close to the sea and just minutes from Puerto de la Duquesa and the beaches of Sabinillas, with Estepona, Sotogrande and Gibraltar all within easy reach. Now, following an extensive programme of renovation, a new Duquesa is beginning to emerge. The golf course itself has been completely renewed, but the transformation extends well beyond the fairways and greens. At the heart of the resort, the former clubhouse has been
reimagined as Casa Club Duquesa, a four-star boutique hotel with 25 rooms overlooking either the Mediterranean or the golf course. The aim is to turn a visit to Duquesa into something more than simply arriving, playing 18 holes and heading home. Guests can stay at the heart of the golf course, enjoy Mediterranean dining and make use of a growing collection of leisure and wellbeing facilities. The Casa Club includes two different dining spaces, including a terrace overlooking the green where golfers can extend the day over lunch or drinks after their round. A new fitness area adds modern training equipment, personalised and group classes, golf-specific training and reformer Pilates. There is even the opportunity to swap golf clubs for a croquet mallet. Duquesa has added one of the few croquet lawns on the Costa del Sol, providing a more relaxed and social alternative away from the course. Together, these additions are intended to create a destination that appeals not only to golfers, but also to partners, families and visitors simply looking to enjoy the Mediterranean setting. Casa Club Duquesa can also host weddings, private celebrations, meetings and corporate events. And the transformation is not stopping at the clubhouse.

A new way to live at Duquesa
NEWS & FEATURES
The next stage is Duquesa Green, a new residential development beside the golf course and within walking distance of Puerto de la Duquesa and the Mediterranean. The development will comprise 156 homes, with 91 apartments forming its first phase. Properties range from one to four bedrooms, including four-bedroom penthouses with private pools, with homes offering views towards the golf course, Mediterranean or, in some cases, both. Its location brings together three elements that rarely sit quite so closely together on the Costa del Sol: golf, marina life and an established year-round community. Residents can walk to the sea and Puerto de la Duquesa while living alongside the newly renovated golf course. The homes are being positioned both for those looking to live permanently on the Costa del Sol and those seeking a second home or investment property. Owners who
choose to rent their property will also have the option of placing its rental management with the development’s management company. For early buyers, there is naturally a greater choice of property, orientation and location within the development – as well as the opportunity to become part of the wider transformation of Duquesa from its beginning. Taken together, the renewed golf course, Casa Club Duquesa and Duquesa Green represent a significant change for a familiar Costa del Sol name. Golf remains at its heart, but the ambition now stretches considerably further: to create a place to play, stay, dine, train, live and enjoy the Mediterranean. For more information about Duquesa Green, visit C/ Boquerón 1 Local, Puerto de la Duquesa, 29691 Manilva, or email comercial@bondre.es. www.golfladuquesa.com

Santana Golf A rare kind of quiet There is a moment, usually somewhere around the fourth or fifth hole, when a firsttime visitor to Santana Golf tends to stop and simply listen. What they hear is birds singing, wind through the olive branches, and very little else. Santana Golf has no surrounding urbanisations - no rooftops crowding the fairways, no traffic hum drifting over the greens… The result is a rare sense of openness and tranquillity on the Costa del Sol, a quality that has become the Club’s most cherished signature. That sense of calm has been carefully protected this summer, even as the greenkeeping team has undertaken one of its busiest maintenance programmes in recent years. The work has been planned and phased with the golfer in mind, allowing play to continue with minimal disruption while important improvements take place beneath and around the course. Among the quieter but telling refinements, several approach areas around the greens have been resurfaced and tightened up, rewarding a well-struck iron with a truer bounce and a fairer roll. The landscape itself has been quietly reshaped too. Mature palm trees have been transplanted to new positions around the course, while a fresh planting of olive trees - a
nod to the estate’s Andalusian roots - will mature over the coming seasons into the same kind of natural framing that already defines Santana’s fairways. Alongside this, seven tees have been fully rebuilt, giving golfers firmer, more consistent surfaces from the very first swing of the hole. Santana has extended its renovation of the greenside bunkers with the acclaimed Better Billy Bunker system, with the surrounds of nine holes now benefiting from improved drainage and more consistent sand conditions. Yet for all the investment in turf, drainage and playing surfaces, there is another reason golfers return to Santana - and it has nothing to do with the course itself: the people. From the moment you arrive at the clubhouse, there is a warmth that feels genuine rather than rehearsed. It follows you onto the course, where the course Marshals and support team are never far away, and continues into the Restaurant, affectionately regarded by many members as the favourite hole on the course. Whether it is a drink after a competitive round or a relaxed lunch before teeing off, the Restaurant is where Santana’s hospitality comes full circle. It is an important part of the experience - and one that is just as memorable as the golf. Perhaps that is what makes Santana distinctive; the course continues to evolve,
but its character remains remarkably constant: the open landscape, the mature trees, the feeling of space, and the unhurried atmosphere that greets you from the moment you arrive. That, ultimately, is what makes Santana different: not simply a course worth playing, but a place worth returning to. www.santanagolf.com

Swap the winter range for Spain’s biggest golf resort La Cala Resort is inviting golfers to escape the winter weather, with stays ranging from short golf breaks to extended visits of up to three months. Home to 63 holes, La Cala offers Spain’s largest single-site golf offering, comprising three 18-hole championship courses designed by Cabell B. Robinson, Campo America, Campo Asia and Campo Europa, alongside its nine-hole Short Course. Guests can stay in the resort’s hotel or choose from two- and three-bedroom apartments
and penthouses, providing additional space for couples, families, groups or those combining golf with remote working. At the Golf Hub and Academy, golfers can work on their game with a driving range and coaching supported by video analysis, FlightScope and SAM PuttLab. Away from golf, facilities include tennis and padel courts and the resort spa, while Marbella, Málaga and the beaches and villages of the Costa del Sol are within easy reach. “There’s a real appeal in continuing to play
through the winter rather than putting the clubs away until spring,” said Sean Corte-Real, General Manager at La Cala Resort. “For some guests that’s a short break to recharge; for others, it’s a longer stay where golf becomes part of everyday life.” Set in the Sierra de Mijas, La Cala is around 30 minutes from Málaga Airport and 20 minutes from Marbella. www.lacala.com

Alhaurín Golf: Golf with a different perspective Set amid the mountains of the Costa del Sol, Alhaurín Golf combines a distinctive 18-hole course with extensive practice facilities, a par3 layout and a relaxed clubhouse experience. Golf on the Costa del Sol is often associated with sweeping Mediterranean views, but head inland and the landscape takes on an altogether different character. At Alhaurín Golf, the surrounding mountains provide the backdrop to a course shaped by its natural terrain, with elevated views and changing scenery accompanying golfers throughout the round. The 18-hole course combines variety with a strategic challenge, its fairways following the contours of the landscape to create a test
designed to reward thoughtful play as much as distance. The result is a course with a strong individual identity, offering experienced golfers plenty to consider while remaining enjoyable for those still developing their game. Away from the main course, Alhaurín offers extensive facilities for golfers looking to practise or improve. The driving range includes both covered and open-air areas, complemented by a large putting green, chipping green and practice bunker. A separate par-3 course provides another option, whether for a quicker round, an introduction to the game or simply an opportunity to sharpen the short game.
The experience continues beyond the golf. The clubhouse forms the social centre of Alhaurín, with the pro shop providing equipment, clothing and accessories, while the restaurant and terrace offer somewhere to relax after a round. With views across the course and surrounding mountains, the terrace makes the most of the setting that gives Alhaurín much of its character. Bringing golf, practice and hospitality together in one distinctive mountain setting, Alhaurín Golf offers a different perspective on golf on the Costa del Sol. www.alhauringolf.com

Located in one of southern Europe’s most respected golfing enclaves, Inmood San Roque Hotel is far more than a base for a golf break. It is a hotel intrinsically linked to the history of the game, proudly recognised as one of the official hotels during the 1997 Ryder Cup, one of the most significant tournaments ever staged in European golf. That edition of the Ryder Cup marked a defining moment. For the first time, the event was hosted in Spain, at the legendary Real Club Valderrama, just minutes from the hotel. During an unforgettable week in
September, San Roque became the global epicentre of golf, welcoming the world’s finest players, team officials, international media and travelling supporters. Inmood San Roque played its part by hosting key figures connected to the competition, offering a calm and discreet environment away from the intensity of the course. Europe’s famous victory, captained by the iconic Seve Ballesteros, secured the Ryder Cup’s place in sporting folklore and left an enduring legacy that still shapes the identity of the hotel today.
www.thegolfguide.co.uk
From its beginnings, Inmood San Roque has been designed with golfers in mind. Set within the renowned Golden Triangle of Golf, it enjoys a privileged location close to The San Roque Club and San Roque Golf Resort, both consistently ranked among the finest courses in the region and particularly popular with UK golfers seeking quality, challenge and tradition. Recently refurbished, the hotel now presents a contemporary, elegant style that blends its sporting heritage with modern comfort. Spacious, light-filled rooms provide an ideal place to relax after a demanding round, while attentive service ensures that the specific needs of golfers are understood and anticipated.
NEWS & FEATURES
At the heart of the hotel lies its pool area, the true social and visual focal point of Inmood San Roque. Surrounded by landscaped gardens, it is a space for relaxation and connection, where mornings begin quietly and afternoons extend into warm Andalusian evenings. A modern approach to wellbeing completes the experience. Guests can take part in yoga classes to improve flexibility, balance and focus, or train in the fitness centre dedicated to strength work, particularly valued by golfers looking to enhance performance and reduce the risk of injury. Dining is led by San Roque Gardens Restaurant, where Mediterranean flavours and local produce are presented with a
refined, contemporary touch. It is the perfect setting for post-round conversations and relaxed evenings in an elegant yet informal atmosphere. For readers of The Golf Guide UK, Inmood San Roque offers something increasingly rare: a destination where world-class golf, authentic history and modern lifestyle come together — a place where golf made history, and continues to do so. REAL CLUB VALDERRAMA
www.thegolfguide.co.uk
Real Club Valderrama is located in Sotogrande, Andalucia, the largest and southern-most region of Spain. A few miles north of Gibraltar, it is approximately one hour’s drive from Malaga International Airport. Valderrama is a private Members’ club with a limited number of starting times offered for visitors. The climate is ideal for year-round golf. Valderrama has been consistently ranked as number 1 in Continental Europe since the late 80’s and has been included in the Top 100 in the World since 1999. The Par 71 Championship Course measures 6356 meters from the professional tees. The fairways have been described by top pros and leading golf writers as the best in Europe, if not the world. It is not an easy course - nor was it intended to be. It is designed so as to call forth thought and precision for every shot. The course was designed in 1974 by Robert Trent Jones, Sr, one of the great golf course architects, and was originally known as Las Aves (Sotogrande New). In 1984, Mr. Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, acquired the golf course and committed to bringing the course to an extraordinary level, never seen before in Europe. Robert Trent Jones willingly agreed to come back and redesign his original layout

of ten years earlier. Together the two men spent many hours walking around the course and discussing where and how improvements should be made. The course was renamed Valderrama, after the ancient estate on which the land is situated. The pair shared a common aim: to create a course that would present a test of golf to the everyday golfer and the first-class player alike, and would bring out the best golf that is in him. Valderrama has since risen in the Golf World rankings to become the No.1 golf course in mainland Europe, a position proudly held since 1989. No championship course in modern times has so swiftly achieved such recognition. As early as 1988, Valderrama began to host the newly-launched Volvo Masters, the flagship tournament of the PGA European Tour, and continued to do so until 2009. In 1997 the Club hosted the 32nd Ryder Cup, won by Europe in a most thrilling finish. Valderrama remains today the only club ever to have hosted
golf’s pinnacle event outside its traditional homelands, USA and Britain. The tone for the Ryder Cup event was set by Severiano Ballesteros, the Europe captain, when he walked the course with John Paramor, the chief tournament director. “I found everything perfect” he said. “It’s impossible to imagine a golf course in better condition” Next, in 1999 and 2000, Valderrama went on to host the first two editions of the World Golf Championships - American Express Championship, which were won by Tiger Woods and Mike Weir respectively. In more recent times, Real Club Valderrama has been perpetuated through the hosting of eight iterations of the Andalucía Valderrama Masters, a tournament of considerable prestige within the domain of Spanish golf sanctioned by the European Tour. Furthermore, Valderrama proudly welcomed LIV Golf in June 2023, boasting some of the best players in the world.

Known as Robert Trent Jones’ hidden treasure, Duquesa Golf is one of the Costa del Sol’s most spectacular and varied courses. With long fairways, the front and back nines offer two distinctly different challenges. The first nine holes are what some refer to as ‘English-style’, with narrow fairways and high greens. The 4th hole, with its magnificent views, is particularly beautiful - but it can easily cause trouble. The second nine are easier, with wide fairways, although the greens present additional difficulties, providing spectacular views over Duquesa Port, to the mountains and Gibraltar. On the fifteenth the view even stretches as far as Marbella.
The 4th, 5th and 6th holes are known as Amen Corner, with a stroke index of 1, 7 and 3 respectively. An outstanding hole is the spectacular par 3 17th, stroke index 16. The wind force will affect your approach, you could play a 7 iron, a pitching wedge or a sand wedge, for this 108m shot. The views on the Africa and the Mediterranean are truly spectacular. Duquesa Casa Club is the resorts new 25room boutique hotel, overlooking the sea and the golf course, two dining venues, and a state-of-the-art fitness space tailored for personalised functional training, golf groups, yoga, and pilates.

Dona Julia is a new 18 hole, par 71 layout designed by the famous designer Antonio Garcia Garrido. It is set within a huge new development by Casares in the West of the Costa del Sol. The front seven holes go up into the hills with fantastic views of the sea (particularly from the highest part of the course on the 8th tee). Then the back 11 proceed to come down the hill giving a different perspective entirely from the front 7 holes. What you notice about Dona Julia is the overall quality of the course, everything is just how it should be and the fairways are spotless.
The greens likewise and they are huge. In all an excellent course for the money and sure to be a firm favourite because although it is tough it is also fair so should suit all levels of golfer. After your game, wander into the Clubhouse bar to relax and enjoy drinks and food on the sunny terrace. Toughest hole: 10th. Par 4, 405 metres. Stroke index 1 hole and rightly so. Tee off over a valley to a small fairway that runs from left to right in front of you. Sustainable Stewardship Environmental responsibility is woven into the very fabric of the resort’s maintenance practices. Finca Cortesin pioneered the use of an acclaimed irrigation system running entirely on recycled water, and by introducing Ultra Dwarf Bermuda Grass, the resort has successfully reduced irrigation requirements by 30%. These efforts are further supported by chemical-free groundskeeping practices that protect soil and water health while the maintenance of native Mediterranean flora provides essential habitats for local and migratory species. breaking 12-month study underscored the resort’s role as a vital sanctuary for biodiversity. Located near the Strait of Gibraltar, a vital migratory corridor between Europe and Africa, the course acts as a haven for 65 bird species. During the study, 3,807 individual sightings were recorded, including 11 raptor species such as black kites, booted eagles, and peregrine falcons. The resort’s two expansive lakes, totalling 14,000 m², serve as both irrigation reservoirs and vital habitats, offering food and shelter to avian species during their arduous seasonal journeys.

Refining the experience In keeping with a philosophy of constant evolution and excellence, the resort has recently introduced significant enhancements to the opening experience, ensuring a world-class start that honours the site’s storied history. These thoughtful physical refinements include a new dual-purpose white tee box and a dedicated putting green positioned strategically beside the first hole, allowing golfers to find their rhythm within the same quiet, high-stakes atmosphere that has hosted the game’s most ferocious rivalries. It was upon these very fairways that Finca Cortesin staged the historic 2023 Solheim Cup, witnessing Team Europe’s dramatic retention of the trophy, a moment etched into the club’s heritage by Carlota Ciganda’s decisive birdie. This legacy of hosting the world’s finest, including three editions of the Volvo World Match Play Championship, informs every meticulous standard on the course today, where the energy of professional competition is balanced by the resort’s signature sense of serenity.

The strategically placed bunkers contain white marble chips; most fairways are sown with Bermuda whilst the greens and tees have been sown with Penncross.
Flamingos Golf had the honour and privilege to host many prestigious golf tournaments over the years, including the 2002, 2003 and 2004 European Seniors Tour Final and the Women’s Spanish Open in 2010.

Created in 1968, Atalaya Old Course was designed by Bernard von Limburger, the 1925 German Golf Champion who became his country’s finest golf course architect of the time. With wide fairways and large elevated greens, this championship course provides a challenge to golfers of all levels. Elegant and mature with spectacular views of the magnificent La Concha mountain, it is the perfect oasis of tranquillity. Its apparently benign parkland aspect with gently sloping fairways makes it an ideal course for the average club golfer - but plentiful bunkers filled with sparkling ‘marmolina’ sand, fast
greens, lush vegetation and fairways lined with olive, pine, cactus and eucalyptus trees prove a challenge for single-figure players as well. Atalaya New Course offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean and Gibraltar and is seen as one of the most natural courses on the coast. Created in 1990 by Paul Krings, the New Course is set further inland, but has a similar parkland feel about it - with gently undulating fairways and large, fast greens. Atalaya also offers splendid practice facilities, including a spacious driving range, six short game areas and three putting greens.

REAL CLUB DE GOLF LAS BRISAS
The Real Club of Golf Las Brisas was founded by D. Jose Banus in 1968 with the name of “Golf Club Nueva Andalucía”; He would be his first President until 1981.
For his design he chose the American Robert Trent Jones, considered already then like one of the best designers of the world of golf courses. He had just built the Sotogrande field, and later he would also design Los Naranjos and Valderrama. The tour of this Marbella club presents multiple water obstacles: there are ten artificial lakes fed by two streams. The greens, mostly elevated, are heavily protected by bunkers. The result of the work of Robert Trent Jones, which we continue to enjoy today, was truly remarkable and original, achieving a difficult and attractive course. It was also original in the lawn used: “Bermuda” on the fairways and “Penncross Bentgrass” on greens, unusual species in Europe in the sixties; The consequence of all this is a course that requires playing a precision golf. As opinion of great golf players we can reflect the one of Paul Azinger (USA):
“Las Brisas does not have a bad hole. In fact it’s one of the best courses I’ve ever played.” The original design, the Englishman Gerald Huggan was commissioned by D. José Banús to design the landscaping and the course’s arboretum. Gerald Huggan, a great specialist in subtropical plants, had just returned from Kenya where he had designed the Nairobi gardens. Here at Las Brisas we can enjoy his work and imagination, in a place where there are trees representing all the continents of the world: species from Africa like the Cape Chestnut and the Spiny Acacias; the Indian Laurel and the Mysore Ficus from Asia; Chorisia Speciosa from America; the Green Ash from Mexico; and the Blackwood and the Whistling Pine from Australia, together with numerous species of palms and Mediterranean trees which coexist in great harmony, turning our course into a veritable botanic garden.

During the following ten years our Club was open to the public, serving the needs of tourism in the area and playing host to numerous guests, with 44,000 players visiting the course in 1975. In 1981 the Banús Group sold the course to the businessmen Herman Sauer and Juan Romero who decided to transform the Club into a private Club; to do so, they formed the company Sociedad Campogolf, S.A., which holds the Clubs assets, and 1,320 shares were issued. The Club’s facilities and the golf course were improved. In 1983 the Spanish Open was again held at the Club, leading to a resounding sporting success. The Irishman, Eamon D’Arcy, won the Open with the Spaniard, Manuel Piñero, coming second. Both he and José María Cañizares managed to equal the course record. In 1983, and after a period of consolidation as a private Club, Herman Sauer resigned from the Chair, with elections being called at which D. Antonio Fortuny was voted in as Chairman. During the following years,
especially in 1985 and 1991, our Club became the focus of some of the most prestigious national and international competitions like Their Majesties the King and Queens’ International Cup, the Spanish Open, the Nations’ Cup and the World Cup. The Spanish Open held in 1987 was won brilliantly by Nick Faldo, followed by Severiano Ballesteros, only two strokes behind, with the latter beating the course record with 64 strokes in the Pro-Am played the day before the competition. Kyle Phillips renovated its design in 2015, through the remodelling of the course, this delightful walking venue has been redesigned to respect and improve on the best aspects of the original design, as well as modified to create a new course which will not only continue to bring pleasure to the members, but once again challenge the professional player. Upon the realization of the new practice facility improvements, Las Brisas will be able to offer its members a complete toplevel golf experience.

Santa María Golf is considered one of the most exquisite and emblematic courses in Marbella. It boasts a spectacular enclave, devoid of buildings for the most part and with an 18-hole course immersed in a leafy pine forest and cork oak forest. The first 9 holes were designed by Mr. Antonio García Garrido and the course soon became one of the favourites of a large number of golfers who decided to become members. The second 9 holes, inaugurated in November 1996, were designed by the club’s technical team. A recognized trajectory and reputation within the best golf courses in the area, and the good evaluation of players of any level, make our club a must-see on the Costa del Sol. The course offers players a challenging course in an environment with views of the
Mediterranean Sea and mountains covered by holm and oak trees. Also noteworthy is the club house building, with marked Andalusian architecture, an impressive 19th century farmhouse, surrounded by extensive gardens. Located in the incomparable beauty of the Andalusian mountains, Santa María Golf meanders through a valley following its contours and is surrounded by natural vegetation made up of pines, oaks, cork oaks, olive trees and a small stream that runs through much of the course. The front nine is a more demanding challenge with three par 5 holes, while the inward half with three par 3 holes is more forgiving and has more recovery holes. There are four strategically placed lakes on the course, which come into play on holes 1, 3, 8, 9 and 11.

CABOPINO GOLF MARBELLA
Cabopino Golf Marbella is one of the most attractive courses on the Costa del Sol, thanks to its harmonious design and impeccably maintained fairways and greens. Its layout, which combines beautiful scenery with a welcoming and stimulating playing experience, makes it an irresistible choice for golf lovers. The course invites you to enjoy a relaxed game in a charming natural setting. The gentle contours of the terrain and the fairways surrounded by broad-crowned pine trees create a warm atmosphere for playing each hole at your leisure. The lakes and bunkers add a touch of variety to the course, making every shot an opportunity to enjoy golf in good company. The front nine at Cabopino Golf begins with views of the Mediterranean and an accessible but technical opening hole. Hole 3 stands out for its tee shot from an elevated tee on a cliff, while hole 9 not only stands out for its wide and clear tee shot, but also for offering a perfect break in the course. If you didn’t
take advantage of the buggy bar stop, don’t worry, just to the left is the Luma restaurant, the ideal place to enjoy a refreshing drink and recharge your batteries before tackling the second half of the course. The back nine begins with the 10th hole, which offers one of the best views of the marina and is a short par 4 ideal for birdies. The 13th hole, a par 3 almost surrounded by water, is striking for its beauty, while the 15th requires a tee shot over a lake. The course ends with a slightly dogleg par 4 and a raised, well-protected green. On the other hand, its flagship tournament, the Cabopino Trophy, has stood out for its excellent organisation and the sporting level of its participants. The addition of the LUMA Challenge has helped to consolidate it as a highlight on the national golf calendar. From the terrace of the Luma Restaurant, redesigned in recent years, you can enjoy a unique end to your round with views of Marbella Bay, the sea and the course itself.

Sweeping elevation changes, endless panoramas and dramatic table-top greens - the America Course offers challenge and reward in equal measure. Wider fairways make the course less demanding off the tee and the opening hole – a downhill, risk-reward par 5 - is a taste of what’s to come. With five par 3s and four more par 5s, the America Course will offer a score if you can keep the ball in play. Just steer clear of the pristine crushed-marble bunkers and scrubland that frames every hole on La Cala’s second oldest course. The approach into the last is as memorable a finish as it gets - the perfect end to an unforgettable round of golf.

Framed by breathtaking topography, the oldest course at La Cala is a masterpiece by worldrenowned course designer Cabell B Robinson. Iconic shaped greens and rolling fairways are generous where they need to be – tailor-made for strategic and patient golfers. Eye-catching par-3s played from elevated tees are a trademark, while each of the four par-5s on the scorecard are the definition of risk-reward golf. Just be sure to choose the right club off the tee. Accurate approach play is the secret to a good score on the Asia Course. Remember to stay patient and don’t forget to look up and take in the view!

Expect drama and adventure at every turn as the Europa Course meanders through the valley of the River Ojén. The third of Cabell B Robinson’s three courses at La Cala has captured the imagination of golfers since its opening in 2005, maturing seamlessly into the spectacular surroundings of the Sierra de Mijas. Wider fairways and larger greens make this an enjoyable test for all, but bring your A-game on the toughest holes. Dissected by the Ojén, the fourth might just be the most demanding par four in Andalucía. And at 233 metres, the 14th is the longest par 3 in the region. Defined by the calm and privacy of its unique setting, Santana Golf unfolds within the grounds of a former avocado plantation. Expertly crafted by the renowned architect Cabell B. Robinson, the parkland layout works in harmony with the natural terrain, creating a secluded environment where nature takes centre stage. The course is remarkably level and easy to walk, a rare characteristic on the Costa del Sol. However, the design offers plenty of bite. The 4th hole stands out as a visual masterpiece and one of the most characteristic holes on
the course. Meanwhile, the 8th hole demands respect as one of the longest Par-5s on the coast - a true test of power and precision. History also plays a part on the 5th hole, where majestic cork oaks have stood watch for over five centuries. While the signature avocado trees frame many fairways, the varied vegetation, water hazards and strategic bunkering ensure that every hole presents a new challenge. Santana Golf offers a technical, scenic, and relaxing round, perfect for those who appreciate traditional golf.

At the roundabout, take the 5th exit onto A-7053/Camino de Coín. The course is about 3.5 kms from the highway. Both layouts were designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr. Los Lagos, the original course, opened in 1976, followed by Los Olivos in 1984. Reflecting Jones’ philosophy of “Difficult Par, Easy Bogey”, the two courses provide contrasting but complementary golfing experiences. Los Lagos is characterised by wide fairways, mature trees and extensive water features, with lakes coming into play on 11 of its 18 holes. Recent improvements include the refurbishment of the lake on the signature 13th hole and extensive bunker renovations, enhancing the course while respecting its original design. Los Olivos offers a different challenge, with smaller, more undulating greens, strategic bunkering and olive-tree-lined fairways
placing greater emphasis on accuracy and course management. Further renovation works are scheduled for 2026, continuing the programme of investment across Mijas Golf. The practice facilities have also undergone a major transformation, with improvements to the driving range and PGA Academy including new grass, drainage and irrigation systems, a renovated tee line and TrackMan technology. Rental equipment has also been renewed for 2026, with new clubs and both manual and electric trolleys available. Together, Los Lagos and Los Olivos offer 36 holes of Robert Trent Jones Sr. golf in the heart of Mijas, just minutes from the Mediterranean and within easy reach of both Málaga and Marbella.
