COSTA DEL SOL GOLF GUIDE: 20 YEARS, 100 EDITIONS, ONE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY

In 2005, the very first issue of the Costa del Sol Golf Guide was placed into the hands of golfers across southern Spain.

Back then, the vision was simple: create a dedicated publication that showcased the region’s outstanding golf courses, celebrated the game, and provided a trusted companion for visitors and residents alike. Two decades later, that small idea has grown into a fixture of the golfing landscape, and today we are proud to be celebrating our 100th edition. Much has changed since our first issue. The Costa del Sol has firmly established itself as Europe’s leading golf destination, earning the title “Costa del Golf” with more than 70 courses stretching from Málaga to Sotogrande. Along the way, we’ve seen worldclass tournaments hosted on our fairways, from the Solheim Cup to prestigious European Tour events. We’ve interviewed professionals

and rising stars, spoken with greenkeepers, club managers, and teaching pros, and featured the stories that make golf here more than just a sport- it’s a community. Through it all, the Golf Guide has grown with the game. What began as a straightforward course directory has evolved into a platform celebrating every aspect of golfing life on the coast. From course reviews and travel insights to equipment updates, lifestyle features, and event coverage, each edition has sought to bring something fresh and relevant for our readers. Our advertisers, too, have been essential partners in this journey, supporting the Guide while reaching an audience united by a love of the game.

This milestone is also deeply personal for us.

We’ve poured our energy and passion into every issue since day one. From long days on the courses, to late nights at the keyboard, to countless conversations with club managers and golfers, the Costa del Sol Golf Guide has truly been a labour of love. To all our clients, partners, and loyal readers - thank you. Your support, encouragement, and friendship have made it possible for us to reach this 100th edition, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Looking ahead, golf is evolving with new technologies, sustainability initiatives, and a growing global audience. Here on the Costa del Sol, the challenge is to build on our reputation and continue attracting players from around the world. We see our role as more important than ever: to highlight the best the region has to offer, to showcase the people who make the courses thrive, and to ensure that the Costa del Sol remains at the top of every golfer’s wish list. As we publish this special 100th edition, we raise a toast not only to the journey so far but to the many fairways still to come. Here’s to the next 20 years, the next 100 issues - and to sharing it all with you. ( If we last that long )

Paul & Lisa, Owners & Founders

The changing face of The Golf Guide

When Paul Lambert celebrates a milestone, he does it in style - and 100 editions of The Golf Guide is no small achievement. I’ve had the privilege of sharing part of that journey, joining the team in June 2009 for edition 44. At the time, Paul had just asked me to help redesign the guide following the closure of Eat Golf! magazine, and it was the perfect opportunity to stay involved in golf publishing. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to contribute to three major redesigns, including our most recent update which introduced a refreshed logo and a modern, cleaner look. Each redesign has been about more than just aesthetics – it’s been about keeping The Golf Guide as dynamic and engaging as the courses and destinations it showcases. Over these years, the Costa del Sol has also evolved, welcoming new golfers, new investments, and even hosting world-class moments like the Solheim Cup at Finca Cortesin. To see the guide grow alongside these changes has been a real source of pride. It’s been an honour to play a small role in The Golf Guide’s story. Here’s to Paul and Lisa, the team, and the next 100 editions.

Nick Senior,

Santa María Golf: Evolution and Development (2005 – 2025)

Opened in 1991, Santa María Golf began as a 9-hole course and was completed to 18 holes during the 1990s, quickly establishing itself as a reference point in Elviria, Marbella. Over the years, the club has maintained a distinctive profile: a family-friendly, social, and welcoming space for its members, where a passion for golf is combined with camaraderie and community activities.

The club’s identity has relied on stable leadership and a committed management team, with historical figures such as Colin Mosely in the early years and Alfredo Ramiro in operational management. The addition of Pedro Batista in 2022 further boosted the club’s projection, consolidating Santa María Golf as a benchmark for golf in Marbella and the Costa del Sol, strengthening its strategy of modernization, communication, and promotion.

2005 - 2010: Consolidation and Strengthening

During these years, Santa María Golf focused on consolidating its private and social club model, reinforcing member engagement and internal activities. The club maintained a prudent investment policy, prioritizing the ongoing maintenance of the course, the quality of the greens, and the functionality of the facilities.

Internal tournaments and trophies gained particular importance, notably the establishment of the President’s Trophy, which became a key annual event. These initiatives strengthened the cohesion of the club as an active and committed community.

2011 - 2015: Maintenance and Operational Improvements

Between 2011 and 2015, club management focused on optimizing the member and visitor experience, implementing continuous improvements to greens, bunkers, and playing areas. The Clubhouse and catering facilities were also upgraded to provide comfort and personalized service.

During this period, the leadership preserved the club’s philosophy in the face of increasing tourism in the area, maintaining its private and exclusive character without restricting members’ access to tournaments and local competitions.

2016 - 2020: Anniversary, Modernization, and Holes 9 &10 Renovation

The club’s 25th anniversary in 2016 was celebrated with special activities, institutional recognitions, and notable milestones, such as surpassing one million rounds played. This milestone reaffirmed member loyalty and the club’s social and sporting relevance.

During this period, a major renovation of holes 9 and 10 was carried out:

• Hole 9: extended from 324 m (par 4) to 511 m (par 5).

• Hole 10: extended from 142m (par 3) to 420 m (par 4).

The total course length was adjusted to 6,015 m with a par 72, enhancing both playability and competitive appeal.

2021 - 2025: Promotion, Recent Activity, and Continuous Improvement

In recent years, Santa María Golf has implemented promotion initiatives, such as

participating in the Marbella Golf Passport, increasing the influx of players and tourists. Regular communication regarding improvements and course work demonstrates the club’s active responsiveness to member suggestions, including charity events and social tournaments.

One of the most notable projects during this period has been the comprehensive renovation of all greens on the original course, with the second half of the course scheduled for completion over the next two years, ensuring a superior quality level throughout the course. Furthermore, the club has earned the trust of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation (Real Federación Andaluza de Golf) to host highcalibre events year after year, elevating the club to new aspirations in the organization of major tournaments and reinforcing its prestige on the regional and national golf scene.

“I am deeply honoured and grateful for this recognition from my fellow professionals,” said Padrón. “It gives me great pride to have been chosen by such distinguished individuals, many of whom have already been nominated in the past and achieved significant accomplishments for their clubs.”

Padrón complemented his studies in marketing, economics and advertising with a Masters degree in golf course management. He began his career as director at Villamayor Golf (Salamanca) and, after a brief spell at Los Ángeles de San Rafael (Segovia), took on the role of operations director at Real Club Valderrama, where he earned the international CCM certification. In 2019, he moved to Mexico to manage the PGA Riviera Maya course before returning to Spain in 2023 to join La Hacienda Links Golf Resort.

In addition to his management role, Padrón

La Hacienda Links Golf Resort has shot to the upper echelons of European golf in recent years thanks to significant investment in facilities both on and off its two 18-hole courses – the Links and Heathland. The venue’s international reputation has never been stronger, particularly after the addition of the five-star Fairmont La Hacienda hotel. Between 2022-2025, the resort has added a new clubhouse and dining facilities, new halfway house, beach club and real estate, while La Hacienda will further enhance its rising status in Spanish golf when it hosts the finale of the 2025 Santander Golf Tour later this year.

La Cala expands golf offering with new 9-hole short course

La Cala Resort is delighted to announce the opening of its fourth golf course, the all-new La Cala Short Course, a purpose-built 9-hole Par three layout that opened on Friday 4th July 2025. Located adjacent to the resort’s Golf Academy and driving range, this new course has been carefully designed to meet the growing demand for faster, more flexible play formats, while retaining the quality, scenic beauty, and strategic interest for which La Cala is renowned.

The La Cala Short Course replaces the resort’s previous 6-hole loop and has been entirely reimagined to offer a complete shortgame experience in a picturesque, timeefficient format. The layout features elevated tees, sweeping views of the Mediterranean, and natural integration with the rolling Mijas landscape. It is set to appeal to families, juniors, beginners and experienced players seeking a quick but rewarding round.

“Our vision has been to create a course that’s accessible, fun, and designed to reflect how people are engaging with golf today,” said Sean Corte-Real, La Cala Resort General Manager. “Guests are increasingly looking for ways to enjoy the game in shorter time

frames, and this new course allows them to do that, without compromising enjoyment or quality.”

Designed with variety and playability in mind, the new course offers a diverse set of holes that challenge creativity and shot-making. It is equally suitable for newcomers learning the game, juniors developing their skills, or advanced players refining their wedge play and short-game precision.

The opening of the Short Course reflects a broader movement in the golf industry, with leading resorts across Europe and North America responding to player demand for more accessible and varied playing options.

At La Cala, the new course complements a trio of championship 18-hole layouts, Campo America, Campo Asia and Campo Europa, each offering a distinct test of golf across some of the most dramatic terrain in southern Spain. The Short Course is also the first phase of an ambitious upgrade programme at the Academy, which will be transformed into a dedicated “Golf Hub”, with phase two set for completion in 2026.

The Short Course will also serve as a valuable extension to La Cala’s teaching and practice

facilities. Its close proximity to the Golf Academy and driving range makes it ideal for on-course coaching, warm-up sessions, and short-game-focused clinics.

Guests visiting La Cala will also enjoy access to the resort’s 4-star hotel, full-service spa, fitness centre and several dining venues, all set within the heart of the Costa del Sol.

The resort has once again been nominated as Spain’s Best Golf Hotel in the 2025 World Golf Awards, reinforcing its reputation for delivering a complete and exceptional golf holiday experience.

“We believe golf should be inclusive, adaptable, and most of all, enjoyable,” added Corte-Real. “This new course embodies those values and gives us a unique opportunity to introduce more people to the game, support skill development, and provide an unforgettable experience, whether it’s your first round or your hundredth.”

The La Cala Short Course officially opened on July 4, 2025. For players seeking a modern, memorable way to enjoy golf on the Costa del Sol, it promises a welcome new experience.

Two decades of excellence: Celebrating 20 years of The Golf Guide, Costa del Sol and a partnership built to last

In 2005, The Golf Guide, Costa del Sol first arrived on the scene with a clear vision - to create a premium publication dedicated to the region’s golfing culture, luxury lifestyle, and the many opportunities the Costa del Sol offers to residents and visitors alike.

Twenty years later, that vision has not only endured but flourished. Now, as the magazine celebrates its 20th anniversary and publishes its landmark 100th edition, it stands as a testament to the value of consistency, quality, and commitment to its readership.

At Los Arqueros Estates, we have had the privilege of being part of this remarkable journey since the very beginning. From the magazine’s first issues through to this historic 100th edition, our partnership has been built on a shared understanding of quality, an alignment of audience, and mutual respect. This is more than a business story - it is the account of two brands that have grown together over two decades, each helping to strengthen the other, and of a personal relationship with the magazine’s founder, Paul Lambert, that has evolved from professional collaboration into genuine friendship.

2005: The Beginning of Something Special

When The Golf Guide, Costa del Sol debuted in 2005, it entered a market already familiar with golf tourism but underserved in terms of specialist publications. Its first issues immediately set a new standard - elegantly designed, carefully curated, and targeted to

reach golf enthusiasts and lifestyle seekers with both the passion and means to explore what the Costa del Sol has to offer.

For Los Arqueros Estates, the timing could not have been better. We were looking for a high-quality platform to showcase our premium real estate portfolio - a portfolio that appealed to exactly the kind of audience the magazine was reaching. The synergy was obvious, and our decision to advertise in the very first editions was driven by a simple truth: if we wanted to connect with discerning, internationally minded clients, this was the right place to be.

The Parallel Growth of Two Brands

Over the next two decades, both The Golf Guide and Los Arqueros Estates experienced steady growth.

For the magazine, this meant expanding distribution along the coast, enhancing the quality of its photography and design, and steadily refining its editorial voice. Each edition built upon the last, introducing new features, course profiles, lifestyle articles, and business showcases - all without losing sight of the magazine’s central identity.

For Los Arqueros Estates, the period saw

an expansion of our property portfolio, the refinement of our marketing strategy, and a deepening of our reputation for professionalism and client care. Our business evolved to meet changing market conditions, but one constant remained: our ongoing presence within the pages of The Golf Guide. As the magazine grew stronger, so too did its influence - and by extension, the visibility and credibility of the businesses that partnered with it.

A Marketing Partnership That Delivers

From the outset, advertising in The Golf Guide was more than a simple branding exercise - it was a strategic investment. The publication’s distribution network ensured that our adverts reached not only golfers, but also luxury travellers, second-home buyers, and local residents with a genuine interest in premium property.

This targeted reach has been one of the keys to our sustained partnership. Over the years, we have been able to attribute numerous enquiries - and in some cases, completed sales - to leads generated through the magazine. There is something about seeing a property in a beautifully printed, high-

quality publication that no amount of digital advertising can replicate.

In fact, we have often welcomed clients into our office carrying a copy of The Golf Guide, folded open to one of our adverts or feature spreads. That physical connectionholding the magazine in hand - reinforces the seriousness and commitment of the reader.

Trust, Consistency, and Professionalism

One of the reasons this partnership has lasted for 20 years is simple: trust. From the first day we worked with Paul Lambert, we have had confidence that our brand would be represented with care, professionalism, and accuracy. Deadlines are met, artwork is handled impeccably, and the placement of our adverts is always thoughtful.

This kind of reliability is not a given in publishing. It is the result of leadership, attention to detail, and a commitment to

maintaining high standards even when the industry around you is changing. Paul has ensured that The Golf Guide has never compromised on quality, even as the media landscape has shifted dramatically over the past two decades.

The Significance of the 100th Edition

Reaching a 100th edition is no small feat. In an era when many print publications have struggled or disappeared entirely, The Golf Guide, Costa del Sol has endured and thrived. Each edition represents countless hours of writing, design, photography, editing, printing, and distribution.

For us at Los Arqueros Estates, this milestone is more than just a number - it is a reminder of the role the magazine has played in shaping our own brand story. For 100 editions, we have shared the pages of The Golf Guide, watching as both our businesses have matured,

adapted, and found success.

This centenary issue is also a celebration of the trust placed in the magazine by its readers and advertisers alike. It takes years of consistent delivery to earn that trust, and even longer to maintain it.

Personal Ties in a Professional World

Over 20 years of working together, my professional relationship with Paul Lambert has evolved into something more personal. Paul is not only a skilled publisher but also a person who genuinely cares about the success of the businesses he works with. There have been countless conversations over the years - not just about advertising schedules and layouts, but about the industry, the Costa del Sol community, and life in general. Those interactions have built a friendship founded on mutual respect and shared experiences.

In today’s fast-moving, often impersonal business world, such friendships are rare. They add a dimension to the work that makes each new edition of the magazine not just another advertising opportunity, but a continuation of a shared journey.

Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter

As The Golf Guide, Costa del Sol enters its third decade, both the challenges and opportunities of the modern media environment are clear. Digital platforms now complement the print edition, extending the magazine’s reach to a global audience.

Yet the essence of what makes The Golf Guide valuable - its curated content, quality production, and targeted distributionremains unchanged.

At Los Arqueros Estates, we see our continued presence in the magazine as essential. It provides us with a channel to

speak directly to the kind of clients who value quality, lifestyle, and location - the same values that underpin our own brand.

Looking forward, we have no doubt that the partnership between Los Arqueros Estates and The Golf Guide will continue to deliver results, both in terms of business impact and in the satisfaction of working with a trusted, respected partner.

A Personal Message to Paul Lambert

Paul. Congratulations on 20 years of The Golf Guide, Costa del Sol and on reaching your remarkable 100th edition. This is an achievement that reflects not only your professionalism and business acumen, but also your perseverance, creativity, and personal commitment to excellence.

From the first edition to this latest milestone, you have created a publication that not only informs but inspires. You have given

businesses like ours a trusted platform to showcase our work, and in doing so, you have helped shape the commercial and cultural landscape of the Costa del Sol.

On a personal note, I want to thank you for the friendship we have built over the years. It is rare to find someone who can be both a valued business partner and a genuine friend, and I count myself fortunate that our paths have crossed in this way.

Here’s to the next chapter - for the magazine, for Los Arqueros Estates, and for the friendship we will continue to enjoy in the years to come.

With respect and appreciation, Ian Cooper

A Living Legacy: Twenty Years at Real Club Valderrama

When you arrive at Real Club Valderrama, you are stepping into more than a golf course. You are entering a place where history has been made, where nature and sport are woven together, and where every blade of grass tells a story.

For decades we have been recognised as one of the finest golfing venues in the world. Over the past twenty years, our reputation has not only endured, it has deepened, strengthened by our commitment to sporting excellence, environmental responsibility and the heritage of our Andalusian home.

From Champions to New Eras

Since 2005, we have welcomed some of the game’s greatest players to our fairways. Hosting the Andalucía Valderrama Masters as part of the European Tour allowed us to share unforgettable moments with members, guests and millions of viewers around the world. We have seen Sergio García delight home supporters, Matt Fitzpatrick lift the trophy, and many more of golf’s elite rise to the challenge of our demanding layout. These events brought drama, emotion and international attention, reinforcing our place at the pinnacle of European golf.

In 2023, we began an exciting new chapter by hosting LIV Golf Andalucía. This was not just another tournament for us; it was a new energy, a fresh way to share Real Club Valderrama with the golfing world. Over the course of that week, we welcomed a field packed with major champions, Ryder Cup heroes and some of the most recognisable names in the sport. Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka all tested their skills against our narrow fairways, intricate greens and the quiet watch of our centuries old cork oaks.

The atmosphere was unlike anything we had experienced before. Record crowds lined the fairways, their excitement building with every shot. The region came alive, with hotels full, restaurants thriving and the community buzzing as visitors arrived from across Spain, Europe and far beyond.

For many, it was their first time seeing the world’s best golfers in person, and it was our privilege to host them. The tournament brought a festival spirit to Andalusia and

demonstrated that Spain can stage a modern international golf event that is both world class and uniquely ours.

In 2025, Talor Gooch claimed victory after a week of remarkable competition, adding his name to our history. The announcement that LIV Golf Andalucía will return in June 2026 is proof of what we already know: that the partnership between our club and this tournament is now one of the most exciting in global golf.

Our Commitment to the Environment

Long before sustainability became a regular talking point, we at Real Club Valderrama made it part of our identity. In the 1990s we became the first golf course in Europe to earn Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary certification, recognising our dedication to wildlife protection and responsible course management. That commitment continues to guide us today.

In the middle of the last decade, we invested in a modern irrigation system that allows precise control of each sprinkler. This ensures water is used only where and when it is needed, helping us save significant amounts each year. Beneath the shade of our cork oaks, we replaced grass with natural mulch, removing hundreds of sprinklers and creating healthier soil for native plants to thrive.

One of our proudest achievements is the reservoir we built beside the eleventh hole. It can hold more than fifty eight thousand cubic metres of rainwater and runoff, providing us with a reliable water source in the dry summer months. Before construction began, seventy cork oaks were carefully relocated to preserve the character of our landscape. The reservoir is now not only a vital part of our water strategy but also a sanctuary for birdlife and a symbol of what responsible golf course management can achieve.

Today our course is home to more than three hundred and fifty species of plants, most of them native to Andalusia, and over a hundred species of birds. Many areas are designated as environmentally sensitive, and every round played here takes place in the company of this rich and protected biodiversity.

Owned by Those Who Care Most

Our ability to safeguard our standards comes from the people who value them most. In 2017 our members took the historic step of purchasing the club. This included the championship course, our par three facility, clubhouse, trademarks and surrounding land. For the first time, our destiny was entirely in our own hands.

Since then, we have invested more than five million euros to enhance and protect the course. We have renewed greens, tees, bunkers, irrigation systems and practice facilities. Every change has been made with the same aim: to ensure that Real Club Valderrama remains at the highest level while keeping the character and traditions that make us who we are.

An Honour from the Crown

In 2015, we were deeply honoured when His Majesty King Juan Carlos I granted us the title of Royal. This distinction recognises not only our sporting achievements but also our place within the cultural heritage of Spain. It is a title we wear with pride, and one that reflects the respect and responsibility we feel for our role in the game.

The Valderrama Foundation

In 2024, we took another step in our commitment to making a positive impact beyond the boundaries of our course with the creation of the Valderrama Foundation. The foundation was established to focus our charitable efforts, strengthen our connection with the local community and inspire future generations through golf.

Its work is centred on three main pillars: supporting youth development, promoting education and culture in our region, and contributing to social and environmental causes that align with our values. Through the foundation, we have launched initiatives to provide young people with access to the game, from introducing children to golf for the first time to supporting promising talents who dream of playing professionally. We have also partnered with local schools, charities and cultural organisations, aiming to create opportunities and strengthen the bonds between our club and the people who live and work around us.

The Valderrama Foundation reflects our belief that our role in the community should be as strong and lasting as our presence in the world of golf. It is a continuation of our tradition of

stewardship, but with a renewed focus on giving back, inspiring youth and helping shape a better future.

Our Essence Endures

Over the past twenty years, we have evolved, adapted and grown, yet the essence of Real Club Valderrama remains unchanged. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior and brought to prominence under the vision of Jaime Ortiz Patiño, our course continues to challenge the very best and inspire all who walk its fairways. Our greens demand precision, our fairways reward strategy, and our setting offers beauty that is both natural and timeless.

From hosting the world’s greatest players to protecting our environment, from embracing innovation to honouring tradition, we have written another remarkable chapter in our

history. As we look to the next twenty years, we do so with pride in what we have achieved and with determination to preserve and enhance all that makes Real Club Valderrama unique. Our heritage is alive, growing with every season, and we look forward to sharing it with the world.

Acknowledging The Golf Guide

As we continue to share our story with the wider world, we are grateful for the support of The Golf Guide. Their dedication to celebrating the finest courses has helped us showcase the spirit of Real Club Valderrama to new audiences, ensuring that our traditions, our values and our unique place in the game are recognised far beyond our fairways.

Finca Cortesin: A Standard-Bearer for European Golf

Perched between the Sierra Bermeja mountains in Casares and the Mediterranean Sea, Finca Cortesin has earned its reputation as one of Europe’s most celebrated golfing destinations in the heart. From the moment guests arrive, it becomes clear this is no ordinary course. Here, immaculate design, natural beauty, and refined hospitality converge to create an experience as unforgettable as it is unique.

Opened in 2006 and designed by Cabell B. Robinson, Finca Cortesin is a modern masterpiece. Stretching to nearly 7,500 yards, the course demands precision from the world’s finest players with its bold bunkering, undulating greens, and strategic layout. Yet, like all great courses, it remains fair and rewarding to golfers of every level. Each hole has its own rhythm, unfolding against a dramatic Andalusian backdrop of rolling hills,

olive groves, and distant sea views. What truly distinguishes Finca Cortesin is its holistic approach to the game, one that combines sporting excellence with sustainability. Environmental stewardship has been central to the club’s philosophy from the outset. Its acclaimed irrigation system runs entirely on recycled water, while in 2017 it became the first course in Spain to introduce Ultra Dwarf Bermuda Grass, a variety that consumes significantly less water, reducing irrigation requirements by 30%.

That same year, Finca Cortesin also pioneered the Better Billy Bunker method in Spain, further enhancing course playability and resilience. These initiatives helped the club earn recognition as Spain’s “Most Hospitable Golf Club” in the Golfers’ Choice Awards of 2018 and, more recently, the ACOSOL Seal of Quality for efficient irrigation in 2022.

Continual investment has kept the resort at the forefront of innovation. The Jack Nicklaus Academy studio has been upgraded with state-of-the-art swing analytics, while new features such as a dual-purpose white tee box and a dedicated putting green beside the first hole enhance the playing experience.

Finca Cortesin’s reputation on the world stage is equally distinguished. The club proudly hosted the Volvo World Match Play Championship in 2009, 2011, and 2012, the first time the prestigious event was staged in Spain, welcoming stars such as Rory

McIlroy, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, and Sergio García. In 2023, history was made again as the venue staged the Solheim Cup. In front of a passionate home crowd, Team Europe retained the trophy for a record third consecutive time in a thrilling 14–14 draw, with Spanish favourite Carlota Ciganda winning all four of her matches.

As Finca Cortesin approaches its 20th anniversary, it is fitting to reflect on another remarkable milestone: The Golf Guide magazine’s own celebration of two decades in print and the publication of its 100th edition.

Both journeys have been defined by a shared passion for excellence, hospitality, and the enduring spirit of the game. For readers, The Golf Guide has long been a trusted companion, informing and inspiring golfers while showcasing destinations such as Finca Cortesin to a global audience.

Together, they embody the best of golf’s past, present, and future.

Santana Golf

With more than 320 days of sunshine and temperatures that range between 18º to 22ºC, the Costa del Sol is a perfect year-round destination for any kind of sport activities, the most outstanding of which is golf.

Stretching from La Axarquía in eastern Málaga to Sotogrande in the Cádiz province, the Costa del Sol has earned the reputation of Costa del Golf, for its wide selection of 70+ world-class golf courses, ranging from coastal links to parkland layouts, attracting golf enthusiasts of all skill levels.

One of the courses that has had a bigger impact in the regional context in the last years is Santana Golf. Over the years we have built a solid reputation for first class quality course, superb service and attention to detail, with guests that return to us again and again

confident in the consistent quality and friendly welcome they receive.

The golf course layout is surrounded by the rivers Ojén and Las Pasadas, and winds through a landscape of wild beauty, 6,200 square metres in length of gently sloping land which previously was an avocado farm. It is set in varied, lush forest and other vegetation, which gives the immediate impression of a well-established golf course.

It is obvious that the design of each hole has been studied carefully to ensure the course is a challenge for all standard of golfers.

The layout of the greens and bunkers – as well as the many water hazards distributed throughout the course- provides an intriguing test for players, requiring their full repertoire of shots.

All these combined elements turn Santana Golf into an area of outstanding beauty where golf and nature are one...

And of course, counting with the support of The Golf Guide has made our success much easier. Congratulations on your 20th Anniversary from everybody at Santana Golf!

El Paraíso Golf Club:

Two Decades of Renewal

Few courses on the Costa del Sol can boast the history and prestige of El Paraíso Golf Club. Designed in 1973 by the legendary Gary Player, it has always been a favourite among visiting golfers. What makes El Paraíso truly unique, however, is its ability to evolve while keeping its soul intact.

A defining moment came in 1996, when the members purchased the Club, ensuring its independence and preserving its spirit for future generations. Since then, El Paraíso has thrived - not only as one of the most welcoming member-owned clubs in Spain, but also as a destination that opens its doors generously to visitors from all over the world.

A Modern Classic

From 2005 to 2025, the Club has undergone a remarkable transformation. Over €3 million

has been invested in the past decade alone, with new greens, bunkers, tees, drainage systems, and redesigned holes keeping the course fresh and exciting. The most recent change - the inversion of the course order so that today’s 1st and 10th have swapped places - has been widely praised by members and visitors alike for enhancing both play and flow. The result is a championship-quality layout that respects Gary Player’s design philosophy: enjoyable for all, challenging for the best. The clubhouse tells a parallel story of reinvention. Terraces have been renovated, solar panels installed, and multipurpose spaces added. Most recently, the restaurant has been brought back in-house, a move that allows the Club to maintain full control over service quality and the member–visitor experience.

Community with Room to Welcome

Today, El Paraíso counts around 500 active members, of which more than 200 are overseas. This gives the Club a rich international character while also ensuring plenty of availability for visitors to enjoy the course. It is this balance - a strong membership, yet a warm welcome to gueststhat makes El Paraíso stand out on the Costa del Sol.

Even in difficult times, such as the financial crisis of 2007 or the COVID-19 pandemic, El Paraíso never stood still. Instead, it invested, improved, and emerged stronger. By the time the Club celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023, it had become more than just a golf course. It had become a benchmark: a destination where tradition, quality, and innovation meet.

A Shared Milestone

This year, as El Paraíso reflects on two decades of progress, we are also proud to celebrate a partner in our journey: the Costa del Sol Golf Guide, marking its 20th anniversary and 100th issue.

For two decades, Paul Lambert and his team have been a constant presence in golf bags and clubhouses across the coast. Their guide has done more than help players arrive on time - it has been an essential marketing tool for golf tourism, showcasing the richness of our region to the world.

On behalf of El Paraíso Golf Club, we thank Paul and his team for their dedication and professionalism, and we wish them many more years of continued success.

Marbella Club Golf Resort

I am a professional golfer and have had the honor of serving as Director of Golf at the Marbella Club Golf Resort for the past 23 years. In that time, I have witnessed first-hand the evolution of the golf landscape on the Costa del Sol.

We have been privileged to host some of the world’s most prestigious events here on the coast, from Ryder Cups and Solheim Cups to multiple men’s and ladies’ Spanish Opens. These tournaments are a testament to the quality and variety of golf courses available to the amateur player all year round. Combined with the fact that the Costa del Sol is less than a three-hour flight from most European countries, it is no surprise that the region has been a preferred golfing destination for more

than two decades.

What stands out to me is that local golf courses have not rested on their laurels. Many established venues have undergone full redesigns and restorations, incorporating the latest in agronomy and course architecture to remain on par with the best courses in the world. At the same time, new courses have opened, further expanding the choice and variety available to players.

At Marbella Club Golf Resort, we continue to invest in improvements - updating machinery and greenkeeping techniques, adapting to environmental standards with recycled water, and expanding facilities with the recent addition of a new shop and changing rooms for our players. Combined with the

spectacular design and views we offer, I believe this ensures our place as a must-visit destination for golfers.

Of course, golf is only part of the Costa del Sol’s appeal. Excellent hotels, world-class dining, and rich cultural activities all add to the attraction, ensuring the region’s status as a leading destination for years to come. Finally, I would like to recognise the Costa del Sol Golf Guide. Over the years, it has played an important role in helping visitors find their way to the best golf experiences the region has to offer. Congratulations on reaching 100 editions and celebrating your 20th anniversary - a remarkable achievement.

A message from Rod Bastard, Director of Golf at the Marbella Club Golf Resort

Golf Torrequebrada: Two decades of change and growth

I’ve been working in golf on the Costa del Sol for over 30 years, and looking back over the past two decades, since The Costa del Sol Golf Guide was first published, the changes are striking. Back in 2005, the high season for golf was very clearly defined: two months in spring and two in autumn. Outside these periods, courses were quieter, many hotels closed for the winter, and the whole experience felt planned and predictable. Fast forward to 2025, and everything has evolved. More flights now arrive year-round, and hotels have adapted and upgraded, with many staying open longer - or even all year - to welcome golfers and other visitors. The line between high and low season has blurred: even the hottest summer months see activity on the courses, and peak season now stretches over six months. Over the years, many golfers have also bought second homes on the Costa del Sol, bringing friends and family to visit more regularly.

Back in 2005, booking a round was almost always done by phone, fax, email or through travel agencies. Online booking has completely changed the game: golfers can now easily find tee times and specials, allowing them to be more flexible, make last-minute decisions, and even combine golf with remote working. Social media has also played a big role, helping courses and destinations reach new players and showcase what they offer. Covid also brought a new wave of players discovering golf as a safe, open-air pastime. In recent years, simulators and other innovations have added even more variety, making the sport accessible to a wider audience, especially younger players, who have embraced the game. Golf is no longer a dwindling pastime; it is thriving with new energy, and more players are planning golf trips than ever before.

Today, the number of courses and green fees may not have surged, but the quality of the courses and overall player enjoyment have

improved dramatically, in line with increased demand. The Costa del Sol has reinvented itself, retaining its Mediterranean charm while offering top-notch golf, accommodations, restaurants, and activities - all enhancing the overall experience.

Seeing it evolve year after year fills me with pride. Every new golfer walking these fairways experiences what those of us who have been here for decades already know: golf on the Costa del Sol is played and enjoyed with sun, sea, exceptional courses, and genuine passion. The Costa del Sol is alive, constantly evolving, and always ready to surprise.

Congratulations to The Golf Guide on a fantastic 20th anniversary! It has been a privilege to witness and be part of the journey. At Golf Torrequebrada, we look forward to celebrating the course’s 50th anniversary next year.

Alhaurín Golf: Seve’s Legacy in the Hills of Andalusia

When the Costa del Sol was in the midst of a golf boom in the late 1980s, one project stood out for both its ambition and its setting. The developer behind Alhaurín Golf turned to Severiano Ballesteros - Spain’s greatest golfing icon - to design a course on rugged, mountainous terrain overlooking the Mediterranean and the Guadalhorce Valley.

The result opened in 1993: an 18-hole par72 course defined by undulating fairways, sharp elevation changes, and strategic water hazards that mirror Seve’s flair for risk and creativity. Alongside it came a 9-hole par-3 course, practice facilities, and eventually a clubhouse, academy, and hotel.

Like much of the Costa del Sol, Alhaurín Golf weathered difficult years during the global financial crisis, tightening operations while seeking to attract a broader base of visitors. A revival began in 2018 under new management,

which brought a professionalized approach, stronger ties with the local council, and renewed investment in maintenance and community engagement.

Today, more than three decades on, Alhaurín Golf remains unique: the only mountain-style course in Andalusia designed by Ballesteros. Its dramatic vistas of the Sierra de Mijas and the sea continue to captivate golfers, while its academy and social programs are helping to build a loyal community.

Looking forward, the club faces both challenges and opportunities. Sustainability is high on the agenda, with smarter irrigation and renewable energy projects aimed at reducing its environmental footprint. There is also a push to elevate course standards, expand its role as a social and cultural hub, and cement its reputation among Spain’s top golfing destinations.

In an area crowded with prestigious clubs, Alhaurín Golf leans on what no rival can claim: a Seve Ballesteros design that rewards strategy, demands imagination, and offers some of the most iconic views on the Costa del Sol.

Chaparral Golf Club

As Chaparral Golf Club approaches its own 20th anniversary next year, it feels particularly special to join The Costa del Sol Golf Guide in celebrating this remarkable milestone. To look back on two decades is to reflect on both how far we have come as a club and how the golf industry on the Costa del Sol has matured into one of the most respected destinations in Europe.

From the very beginning, our vision at Chaparral was to offer something differentnot just another golf course, but an experience that golfers would remember. Over the years, this vision has guided us as we’ve evolved, embraced change, and consistently looked for ways to innovate. Today, we are proud to say that Chaparral has become known not only for its unique layout and natural surroundings but also for the way we have implemented cuttingedge technology in course management, sustainability, and customer experience. From smarter irrigation systems to digital booking tools and player-focused services, technology has allowed us to enhance the way we care for the course and the way we connect with our guests.

But our growth has not only been about technology. The past two decades have been a story of people, the golfers who return year after year, the staff whose passion keeps raising our standards, and the partnerships that have supported us along the way. It is within this network of relationships that Golf Guide has held such an important place.

The Golf Guide has been far more than a publication. It has been a reliable voice for our industry, a promoter of our region, and, importantly, a true partner in business. Our relationship has always been marked by professionalism, trust, and a shared passion for golf. You have managed to bridge communities and connect golfers internationally, bringing visibility not just to Chaparral but to the entire Costa del Sol golf offering. For us, this collaboration has been invaluable, and it has been a genuine pleasure to work with you over the years.

Looking back, it is striking to see how much both Chaparral and the Costa del Sol have changed since 2005. Golf here is no longer simply a sport, it has become part of the region’s identity, woven into the culture,

lifestyle, and even the economy of the coast. Players who visit are not just coming for the game; they are coming for the complete experience, and the quality and variety of our courses are a big reason why the Costa del Sol continues to shine on the world stage.

As we celebrate together, I want to congratulate The Golf Guide team on achieving this incredible milestone. Reaching your 100th and 20th Anniversary edition is proof of the value and dedication you have brought to our industry. You have told our stories, celebrated our successes, and supported our growth and for that, you deserve enormous recognition.

At Chaparral, we are proud to be part of this celebration, and as we enter our own anniversary year, we look forward to continuing this partnership. The past twenty years have been exciting, but we are even more enthusiastic about what lies ahead - for our club, for golf on the Costa del Sol, and for the continuing story that The Golf Guide will keep telling.

Here’s to the next 20 years and beyond.

Our journey with The Golf Guide

We’ve been proud partners of The Golf Guide for over fifteen years, and we’d like to congratulate Paul Lambert and his team on 20 successful years of the Costa del Sol Golf Guide. Their work has helped countless visiting golfers find their way to the golf courses along the Costa del Sol, as well as introduce them to golf clubs they may have otherwise never discovered.

The Golf Guide has consistently supported the region’s golf industry by sharing updates about course updates, renovations, and clubhouse news, while documenting how the local golf scene has developed over the past two decades.

Even in the early days of internet, The Golf Guide was ahead of the curve, building what has become an indispensable online resource. Today, its website provides regular golf news from the world of golf in general, as well as practical tools for golfers across Spain and beyond, including detailed maps and route guides to every course.

Sunset Beach Club has valued its role as a selected hotel partner of The Golf Guide, and always found the magazine to be an effective way to showcase our hotel to golfers visiting the Costa del Sol. Working with Paul & Lisa has always been a pleasure, and we look forward to continuing this partnership in the years ahead.

It is just 40 minutes from Marbella by car, and there are three international airports in close proximity: Gibraltar (20 minutes away), Malaga (60 minutes away) and Jerez (90 minutes away).

Previously known as Almenara, The Alto Club features a revamped 18-hole golf course originally designed by renowned British architect Dave Thomas. Recently remodeled by legendary golfer Manuel Piñero, the course has been updated to maximize enjoyment for players of all levels. Water plays a central role in its layout, with two impressive lakes framed by cork oaks and olive trees, creating an authentic Andalucian golf experience. With sweeping views over the Mediterranean and surrounding hills, the course presents a true challenge through deep bunkers, water hazards, rolling terrain, and winding fairways. Blessed with over 300 days of sunshine each year, The Alto Club offers an ideal climate for year-round play.

The Alto Club Golf Academy

Opened in summer 2025 at the SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort, Sotogrande’s new golf academy marked an exciting chapter for the region. Led by Solheim Cup legend Suzann Pettersen as Global Ambassador, the academy introduced state-of-the-art facilities and a holistic approach to player development, transforming the former 9-hole Alcornoques loop into a modern training ground.

Alongside The Alto Club’s main 18-hole course, it now offers a complete, first-class golf destination. Sotogrande and The Alto Club also sponsor English professional golfer Mimi Rhodes, who can often be seen honing her game at the practice facilities.

LA RESERVA CLUB

REAL CLUB VALDERRAMA

Real Club Valderrama is located in Sotogrande, Andalucia, the largest and southern-most region of Spain. A few miles north of Gibraltar, it is approximately one hour’s drive from Malaga International Airport.Valderrama is a private Members’ club with a limited number of starting times offered for visitors. The climate is ideal for year-round golf.

Valderrama has been consistently ranked as number 1 in Continental Europe since the late 80’s and has been included in the Top 100 in the World since 1999. The Par 71 Championship Course measures 6356 meters from the professional tees. The fairways have been described by top pros and leading golf writers as the best in Europe, if not the world. It is not an easy course - nor was it intended to be. It is designed so as to call forth thought and precision for every shot. The course was designed in 1974 by Robert Trent Jones, Sr, one of the great golf course architects, and was originally known as Las Aves (Sotogrande New). In 1984, Mr. Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, acquired the golf course and committed to bringing the course to an extraordinary level, never seen before in Europe. Robert Trent Jones willingly agreed to come back and redesign his original layout

of ten years earlier. Together the two men spent many hours walking around the course and discussing where and how improvements should be made.

The course was renamed Valderrama, after the ancient estate on which the land is situated. The pair shared a common aim: to create a course that would present a test of golf to the everyday golfer and the first-class player alike, and would bring out the best golf that is in him. Valderrama has since risen in the Golf World rankings to become the No.1 golf course in mainland Europe, a position proudly held since 1989.

No championship course in modern times has so swiftly achieved such recognition. As early as 1988, Valderrama began to host the newly-launched Volvo Masters, the flagship tournament of the PGA European Tour, and continued to do so until 2009. In 1997 the Club hosted the 32nd Ryder Cup, won by Europe in a most thrilling finish. Valderrama remains today the only club ever to have hosted

golf’s pinnacle event outside its traditional homelands, USA and Britain.

The tone for the Ryder Cup event was set by Severiano Ballesteros, the Europe captain, when he walked the course with John Paramor, the chief tournament director. “I found everything perfect” he said. “It’s impossible to imagine a golf course in better condition”

Next, in 1999 and 2000, Valderrama went on to host the first two editions of the World Golf Championships - American Express Championship, which were won by Tiger Woods and Mike Weir respectively. In more recent times, Real Club Valderrama has been perpetuated through the hosting of eight iterations of the Andalucía Valderrama Masters, a tournament of considerable prestige within the domain of Spanish golf sanctioned by the European Tour. Furthermore, Valderrama proudly welcomed LIV Golf in June 2023, boasting some of the best players in the world.

Signature Hole: Hole 10. Par 4.

A beautiful downhill short par 4 with the green surrounded by water. The tee shot is very straight forward if you choose to play safe, however you may feel that at only 250 meters downhill and the wind behind that it is worth having a go with 3 wood or driver. A straight one will make an eagle/birdie very possiblebut just slightly out and you are looking at a 6. Decisions, decisions!

VALLE ROMANO GOLF & RESORT

The Valle Romano golf course was designed by Cabell B. Robinson, the renowned international designer of outstanding golf courses worldwide. He is also the creator of many top-level courses on the Costa del Sol. Valle Romano Golf & Resort is a high-quality residential complex located right on the Costa del Sol, a place to live and enjoy life around a first-class golf course 365 days a year. It is a project covering 122 hectares, where every detail has been carefully considered,

especially with regard to environmental respect and the efficient use of energy resources.

Valle Romano has hosted two European Tour “Challenge Tour” events - the Andalucía Costa del Sol Match Play 9 (2018/19) - as well as Stage 2 of the “Qualifying School 2013.”

Seve’s Legacy at Valle Romano.

Valle Romano Golf & Resort is not only an exceptional golf course on the Costa del Sol, but also a place with history and soul. From the

very beginning, the project had the support and inspiration of Severiano Ballesteros, one of the most iconic figures in world golf. Although he could not attend the opening due to health reasons, he sent a heartfelt message wishing “many birdies” to all players, clearly expressing his connection to the course. As a permanent tribute, hole 9 bears his name, and in the Clubhouse a unique sculpture is displayed: his hands holding a golf club, an exact reproduction of his grip, symbolizing his presence and philosophy throughout the course.

After his passing in 2011, Valle Romano paid tribute with a minute of silence next to the plaque with his name, while flags flew at halfmast as a sign of respect. For the resort team, Seve was not only a sporting icon but also a true companion in the project, supporting it with dedication and vision.

Covering an area of 60 hectares, our course stretches over 5.500 meters and was built in accordance with the highest standards established by the United States Golf Association (USGA). It features Agrostis “Tifsport” turf, certified by the University of

Georgia, and a state-of-the-art irrigation system. Valle Romano Golf offers an average of five tees per hole and spacious greens with multiple pin positions. With breathtaking views of the sea, North Africa, and Gibraltar, the course enhances your unique golfing experience. The Golf Course Valle Romano stands out for its design, geographic location, and commitment to sustainability. Not only does it comply with current environmental regulations, but during its construction, priority was given to preserving as much vegetation as possible to serve as a refuge for local flora and fauna. Every detail of this complex has been carefully considered, with special emphasis on environmental respect and the efficient use of energy resources. One of the main objectives of the course is to

ensure that all types of players - from low to high handicaps - can enjoy it. For this reason, it features an average of five tee platforms per hole and large greens averaging 500 square meters, some reaching up to 1.000 square meters. The greens, with gentle yet extended slopes and numerous pin positions, make each hole adaptable - from relatively easy to highly challenging. At Valle Romano, every detail is taken care of with the utmost attention, ensuring golfers feel valued. Players receive a warm welcome upon arrival, and at the end of their round, the Marshall team offers to clean clubs and shoes as a complimentary service. Valle Romano is not only a technical and exciting course but also a place of relaxation and enjoyment, where golf is lived with passion and beauty.

ATALAYA GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

Created in 1968, Atalaya Old Course was designed by Bernard von Limburger, the 1925 German Golf Champion who became his country’s finest golf course architect of the time. With wide fairways and large elevated greens, this championship course provides a challenge to golfers of all levels.

Elegant and mature with spectacular views of the magnificent La Concha mountain, it is the perfect oasis of tranquillity. Its apparently benign parkland aspect with gently sloping fairways makes it an ideal course for the average club golfer - but plentiful bunkers filled with sparkling ‘marmolina’ sand, fast

greens, lush vegetation and fairways lined with olive, pine, cactus and eucalyptus trees prove a challenge for single-figure players as well.

Atalaya New Course offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean and Gibraltar and is seen as one of the most natural courses on the coast. Created in 1990 by Paul Krings, the New Course is set further inland, but has a similar parkland feel about it - with gently undulating fairways and large, fast greens.

Atalaya also offers splendid practice facilities, including a spacious driving range, six short game areas and three putting greens.

REAL CLUB DE GOLF LAS BRISAS

The Real Club of Golf Las Brisas was founded by D. Jose Banus in 1968 with the name of “Golf Club Nueva Andalucía”; He would be his first President until 1981.

For his design he chose the American Robert Trent Jones, considered already then like one of the best designers of the world of golf courses. He had just built the Sotogrande field, and later Las Brisas would also design Los Naranjos and Valderrama. The tour of this Marbella club presents multiple water obstacles: there are ten artificial lakes fed by two streams. The greens, mostly elevated, are heavily protected by bunkers. The result of the work of Robert Trent Jones, which we continue to enjoy today, was truly remarkable and original, achieving a difficult and attractive course. It was also original in the lawn used: “Bermuda” on the fairways and “Pencross Bentgrass” on greens, unusual species in Europe in the sixties; The consequence of all this is a course that requires playing a precision golf. As opinion of great golf players we can reflect the one of Paul Azinger (USA):

“Las Brisas does not have a bad hole. In fact it’s one of the best courses I’ve ever played.” The original design, the Englishman Gerald Huggan was commissioned by D. José Banús to design the landscaping and the course’s arboretum. Gerald Huggan, a great specialist in subtropical plants, had just returned from Kenya where he had designed the Nairobi gardens. Here at Las Brisas we can enjoy his work and imagination, in a place where there are trees representing all the continents of the world: species from Africa like the Cape Chestnut and the Spiny Acacias; the Indian Laurel and the Mysore Ficus from Asia; Chorisia Speciosa from America; the Green Ash from Mexico; and the Blackwood and the Whistling Pine from Australia, together with numerous species of palms and Mediterranean trees which coexist in great harmony, turning our course into a veritable botanic garden.

During the following ten years our Club was open to the public, serving the needs of tourism in the area and playing host to numerous guests, with 44,000 players visiting the course in 1975. In 1981 the Banús Group sold the course to the businessmen Herman Sauer and Juan Romero who decided to transform the Club into a private Club; to do so, they formed the company Sociedad Campogolf, S.A., which holds the Clubs assets, and 1,320 shares were issued. The Club’s facilities and the golf course were improved. In 1983 the Spanish Open was again held at the Club, leading to a resounding sporting success. The Irishman, Eamon D’Arcy, won the Open with the Spaniard, Manuel Piñero, coming second. Both he and José María Cañizares managed to equal the course record. In 1983, and after a period of consolidation as a private Club, Herman Sauer resigned from the Chair, with elections being called at which D. Antonio Fortuny was voted in as Chairman. During the following years,

especially in 1985 and 1991, our Club became the focus of some of the most prestigious national and international competitions like Their Majesties the King and Queens’ International Cup, the Spanish Open, the Nations’ Cup and the World Cup. The Spanish Open held in 1987 was won brilliantly by Nick Faldo, followed by Severiano Ballesteros, only two strokes behind, with the latter beating the course record with 64 strokes in the Pro-Am played the day before the competition. Kyle Phillips renovated its design in 2015, through the remodelling of the course, this delightful walking venue has been redesigned to respect and improve on the best aspects of the original design, as well as modified to create a new course which will not only continue to bring pleasure to the members, but once again challenge the professional player. Upon the realization of the new practice facility improvements, Las Brisas will be able to offer its members a complete toplevel golf experience.

SANTA MARIA GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

Santa María Golf is considered one of the most exquisite and emblematic courses in Marbella. It boasts a spectacular enclave, devoid of buildings for the most part and with an 18-hole course immersed in a leafy pine forest and cork oak forest.

The first 9 holes were designed by Mr. Antonio García Garrido and the course soon became one of the favourites of a large number of golfers who decided to become members. The second 9 holes, inaugurated in November 1996, were designed by the club’s technical team. A recognized trajectory and reputation within the best golf courses in the area, and the good evaluation of players of any level, make our club a must-see on the Costa del Sol. The course offers players a challenging course in an environment with views of the

Mediterranean Sea and mountains covered by holm and oak trees. Also noteworthy is the club house building, with marked Andalusian architecture, an impressive 19th century farmhouse, surrounded by extensive gardens. Located in the incomparable beauty of the Andalusian mountains, Santa María Golf meanders through a valley following its contours and is surrounded by natural vegetation made up of pines, oaks, cork oaks, olive trees and a small stream that runs through much of the course.

The front nine is a more demanding challenge with three par 5 holes, while the inward half with three par 3 holes is more forgiving and has more recovery holes. There are four strategically placed lakes on the course, which come into play on holes 1, 3, 8, 9 and 11.

CABOPINO GOLF MARBELLA

Cabopino Golf Marbella is one of the most attractive courses on the Costa del Sol, thanks to its harmonious design and impeccably maintained fairways and greens. Its layout, which combines beautiful scenery with a welcoming and stimulating playing experience, makes it an irresistible choice for golf lovers.

The course invites you to enjoy a relaxed game in a charming natural setting. The gentle contours of the terrain and the fairways surrounded by broad-crowned pine trees create a warm atmosphere for playing each hole at your leisure. The lakes and bunkers add a touch of variety to the course, making every shot an opportunity to enjoy golf in good company.

The first round at Cabopino Golf begins with views of the Mediterranean and an accessible but technical opening hole. Hole 3 stands out for its tee shot from an elevated tee on a cliff, while hole 9 not only stands out for its wide and clear tee shot, but also for offering a perfect break in the course. If you didn’t

take advantage of the buggy bar stop, don’t worry, just to the left is the Luma restaurant, the ideal place to enjoy a refreshing drink and recharge your batteries before tackling the second half of the course.

The second round begins with the 10th hole, which offers one of the best views of the marina and is a short par 4 ideal for birdies. The 13th hole, a par 3 almost surrounded by water, is striking for its beauty, while the 15th requires a tee shot over a lake. The course ends with a slightly dogleg par 4 and a raised, well-protected green.

On the other hand, its flagship tournament, the Cabopino Trophy, has stood out for its excellent organisation and the sporting level of its participants. The addition of the LUMA Challenge has helped to consolidate it as a highlight on the national golf calendar. From the terrace of the Luma Restaurant, redesigned in recent years, you can enjoy a unique end to your round with views of Marbella Bay, the sea and the course itself.

Luma Challenge: Adrenaline & precision for an unrivalled prize

There are few ways to keep your spirits up after finishing a tournament if you haven’t won it. It’s hard to admit that the 18 holes of the course have beaten you again and that, this time, you won’t be taking home the trophy either.

But this wasn’t the case for the players in last summer’s II Cabopino Trophy. They were all confident that a single, final, accurate shot at the end of the competition would win them the biggest prize offered in a social tournament on the Costa del Sol: the Luma Challenge.

120 players, one shot per participant and a clear goal: to get a hole in one by shooting from the terrace of the Luma restaurant at Cabopino Golf Marbella. The most exciting and demanding challenge of the summer on the Costa del Sol.

The prize was simply spectacular: a sevenday, all-expenses-paid trip, business class travel, accommodation at Casa de Campo Resort and Villas for two people in the Dominican Republic, valued at €15,000, to enjoy three of the most iconic courses in the

Caribbean: Diente de Perro, Santo Domingo Country Club and The Lake Barceló Golf Course.

The atmosphere was charged with concentration, drones, video cameras, DJs and a fun competitive spirit, encouraging each participant to measure their swing carefully and take a deep breath before hitting the ball, hoping to see themselves in the Dominican Republic at the end of their swing. Unfortunately, none of the players managed to complete the challenge, although several came close to victory amid cheers and shouts from the other players.

The Luma Challenge not only brought a different atmosphere to the tournament, but also added extra spectacle and fun for players and spectators alike. This unique experience reaffirms Cabopino Golf Marbella’s ambition to offer unforgettable experiences. Get ready for the next edition and dare to take on the challenge that will take your golf to another level!

LA CALA CAMPO AMERICA

Sweeping elevation changes, endless panoramas and dramatic table-top greens - the America Course offers challenge and reward in equal measure. Wider fairways make the course less demanding off the tee and the opening hole – a downhill, risk-reward par 5 - is a taste of what’s to come. With five par 3s and four more par 5s, the America Course will offer a score if you can keep the ball in play. Just steer clear of the pristine crushed-marble bunkers and scrubland that frames every hole on La Cala’s second oldest course. The approach into the last is as memorable a finish as it gets - the perfect end to an unforgettable round of golf.

SANTANA GOLF

Santana Golf is an 18 Hole golf course par 72 of approximately. 6207 meters in length, set in 138 acres of picturesque parkland.

The course, sympathetically laid out by the architect Cabell B. Robinson, is set in a former avocado plantation which provided a natural solution to many problems. The final result is a magnificent course with wide and well defined fairways on level terrain, hence easily walkable, where water features play an important albeit not excessive part in the overall design. Each hole has two championship tees and two tees for general play for both men and ladies - wide and well manicured putting greens surrounded by strategically placed bunkers, filled with sand produced from crushed marble. Buggy paths are provided throughout the course, beautifully integrated between the rows of fruit trees.

In spite of its previous use, the Avocado Tree or Persea Índica - as it is known by its original name - is not the only tree present here, as many other endemic species like eucalyptus, orange and lemon trees, cactus, pines, fig trees, olive and mango trees make up the varied vegetation of this beautiful enclave, together with a varied population of indigenous birds, with amongst others the calzada eagle. The cork oaks along the 5th hole deserve special mention, as they have been present here for more than 500 years.

MIJAS GOLF

The Courses

During the last decades Mijas Golf has become one of the most popular golf courses in Costa del Sol, known for the outstanding condition of their courses and the friendly atmosphere and excellent service provided to the clients.

Los Lagos and Los Olivos, are situated in the valley of Mijas, north of Fuengirola, only twenty minutes from the Málaga international airport and Marbella, and 3.5 kms. from the sea. Keeping the original design of Robert Trent Jones Sr., the Los Lagos course was totally refurbished in 2012, with Los Olivos set to be refurbushed this year.

The gentle outlines of Los Lagos course in contrast to the stunning appearance of our “Bridge-ball” cannot leave anybody indifferent; proving that it is possible to mix tradition and innovation on the same scenery. The signature of Robert Trent Jones Sr is one of the biggest guarantee seals that can be given in the world of golf. In Spain only six golf courses have his signature.

Tourism and Golf

If you are passionate about golf and culture, good weather and gastronomy, let yourself be surprised by the Costa del Sol. In addition, its good communication will allow you to visit it traveling by sea, air and land.

Maintenance

We attach great importance to the maintenance conditions of the course, which is why we have just carried out a comprehensive renovation. In this reform

we have renewed the irrigation network, the bunkers, the drainage and road network, as well as the entire grass surface.

The Clubhouse

The Clubhouse is an old Andalusian cortijo (farmhouse), and beside it, one can feel the continual buzz on the terraces of the Restaurant, where the variety of our clientele can be noticed; Mijas Golf has managed to mix, with success, the residents on the area with visitors from all over the world.

The Restaurant offers gastronomy typical of the area, that is, national as well as international cuisine, totaling a large selection of dishes. Our ample team of professional chefs of great experience can prepare authentic Malagenian and Mediterranean dishes, for which they have won prestige throughout their industry.

It is a perfect spot to enjoy the richness of the surrounding countryside around Mijas Golf as there is a comfortable large terrace. Also, there is a simple and agreeable menu of the day at an attractive price.

MIJAS GOLF LOS LAGOS

Mijas Golf, a prominent fixture among Malaga’s golf courses, has earned a reputation as one of the Costa del Sol’s most beloved destinations. Over the past decades, Mijas Golf has become synonymous with impeccably maintained courses, a welcoming ambiance, and exceptional service.

The resort boasts two distinct 18-hole layouts, both designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr. Los Lagos, the older of the two, opened in 1976, followed by Los Olivos in 1984. Reflecting Jones’ design philosophy of “Difficult Par, Easy Bogey,” both courses feature minimal rough, strategic water hazards, and relatively flat terrain.

Los Lagos, spanning 52 hectares, is characterized by its expansive fairways and, as its name suggests, numerous lakes. Nine lakes, in fact, come into play on 11 of the 18 holes, creating natural obstacles that challenge golfers of all skill levels. Complementing the water hazards are strategically placed bunkers and a diverse collection of mature trees native to the region. Casuarinas, araucarias, pines, weeping willows, jacarandas, tipuana acacias, fig trees, and even a few coconut palms add to the course’s beauty and provide a natural defense for the wide, flat greens.

MIJAS GOLF LOS OLIVOS

The success of Los Lagos, coupled with favorable economic conditions, paved the way for a second course at Mijas Golf: Los Olivos, which opened in 1984. Spanning approximately 40 hectares, Los Olivos underwent a significant renovation in 2000/2001, overseen by Cabell Robinson, a former protégé of Robert Trent Jones Sr.

Los Olivos is distinguished by its smaller, more undulating greens, each carefully guarded by bunkers. The abundance of olive trees, strategically planted along the fairways, demands greater precision and accuracy from golfers, particularly off the tee.

Driving range

The driving range and Pg Academy have undergone a complete transformation. Featuring new grass, drainage, and irrigation systems, the range also boasts a fully renovated tee line, screen installations, and Trackman systems across the fairway. Golfers can choose to practice outdoors or in a covered area. With a length exceeding 300 meters, the driving range accommodates practice with any club. Various targets at different distances allow for diverse shot practice. Conveniently located adjacent to the starter, putting green, chipping green, and snack bar, the driving range also offers restroom facilities and the option to purchase refreshments.
