L

a inteligencia artificial promete revolucionar el turismo y el golf. Y lo está haciendo, aunque no necesariamente para mejor. Porque detrás de tanta palabra grandilocuente —personalización, optimización, eficiencia— lo que realmente se esconde es el riesgo de convertir dos experiencias humanas en un producto enlatado, repetible y sin alma.

Empecemos por el turismo. Ahora un algoritmo decide dónde irás de vacaciones, qué ruta seguirás y hasta qué foto subirás a Instagram.

Eso sí, todo “a tu medida”. Lo curioso es que la medida resulta idéntica para miles de turistas que, con la misma recomendación “secreta”, terminan hacinados en la misma taberna que TripAdvisor juraba que era auténtica. Viajar, que era perderse, descubrir y equivocarse, se ha convertido en una excursión escolar dirigida por una máquina que no se cansa de repetir: “yo sé lo que quieres mejor que tú”.

En el golf, el panorama no es menos caricaturesco. Aplicaciones que te dicen cómo golpear, sensores que miden hasta el ángulo de

tu pestañeo, y algoritmos que te advierten de lo mal que vas a jugar antes incluso de salir al tee del 1. Todo esto en un deporte cuya esencia es, precisamente, que no hay dos rondas iguales, que el error es parte del encanto, que el viento cambia y la hierba engaña. La IA, en su obsesión por pulirlo todo, amenaza con matar la incertidumbre que lo hace emocionante.

La trampa es clara: cuanto más dejamos que las máquinas decidan, menos experiencia genuina nos queda. El turismo corre el riesgo de volverse un catálogo de clichés empaquetados con la etiqueta de “único”. Y el golf, un simulador perfecto… pero sin la épica del golpe imposible que salió bien contra toda estadística.

Al final, lo que se nos vende como progreso puede ser la fórmula más rápida para aburrirnos. Porque un viaje sin sorpresa no es un viaje. Y una partida sin errores no es golf. Es otra cosa. Algo más previsible, más cómodo… y también mucho más aburrido.

MICHEL MEEUS, propietario de The Range Marbella Este será el segundo año en el que The Range Marbella se suma al Winter Tour. ¿Qué significa para usted volver a apoyar este circuito?

Es un verdadero honor apoyar de nuevo al Winter Tour. En The Range Marbella siempre hemos querido ofrecer un entorno de entrenamiento de primer nivel, pero también devolverle al golf parte de lo que nos ha dado. El año pasado tuvimos la satisfacción de patrocinar el Boys ProAm en el Marbella Club dentro del Winter Tour, y además organizamos nuestro propio Ladies ProAm independiente en Santa Clara Golf Club. Ambos fueron un gran éxito y demostraron lo importante que es apoyar a las distintas categorías del golf.

Este circuito es el único tour de invierno en Europa que ofrece invitaciones al DP World Tour y al Hotel Planner Tour para los profesionales. Al mismo tiempo, los amateurs pueden sumar puntos para el World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), consolidando así su valor tanto para quienes se inician como para quienes buscan dar el salto a la élite.

La evolución del Winter Tour Marbella ha sido notable. Comenzó con un field de 40 jugadores; en su segunda edición reunió un promedio de 70 competidores; y este año la meta es llegar a 100 participantes, el límite máximo establecido. El crecimiento constante refleja el atractivo de un tour que combina competitividad, excelencia organizativa y el encanto incomparable de la Costa del Sol. La visión del torneo apunta a convertirse en el evento de invierno más prestigioso a nivel internacional. ¿Cómo se trabaja día a día para alcanzar ese objetivo y qué novedades podemos esperar en esta temporada 2025–2026?

Ya estamos en la tercera edición y el tour reafirma su compromiso con el bienestar de los jugadores, la excelencia en el servicio y la creación de oportunidades únicas para el crecimiento de sus carreras deportivas.

he Range Marbella, one of Europe’s most advanced training centres, has renewed its commitment to the Winter Tour, the continent’s only winter golf tournament, for the second year running. With the help of its owner, Michel Meeus, and the tournament director, Álvaro Arrizabaleta, we discover how this collaboration reinforces the role of Marbella and the Costa del Sol as top destinations for professionals and amateurs looking to improve, compete and train in great conditions.

This will be the second year that The Range Marbella joins the Winter Tour. What does supporting this circuit again mean for you?

It’s a real honour to support the Winter Tour again. At The Range Marbella, our goal has always been to provide a world-class environment for ambitious golfers, but also to give back to the game. Last year, we proudly sponsored the Boys ProAm at the Marbella Club as part of the Winter Tour and organised our own independent Ladies ProAm at Santa Clara Golf Club. Both were fantastic experiences that underlined the importance of supporting every part of the game. This year, continuing our partnership is a way to not only help the Tour grow, but also to strengthen Marbella’s position as a true hub for golf in Europe.

What does the partnership comprise?

Our partnership includes a direct financial contribution to support the development of golf in the region. This is vital for helping circuits like the Winter Tour create opportunities for players at different stages of their careers. Beyond the financial side, we also provide access to our facilities and organise ProAm with Ladies and Boys Pros, which bring professionals and amateurs together. For us, it’s about community, opportunity, and contributing to Marbella’s

recognition as the “Golf of Europe.”

Since opening its doors in 2022, The Range Marbella has undergone a complete transformation of its facilities, establishing itself as a leading centre for the latest training technology. What can be expected to be found there by Winter Tour players?

Players will find a centre designed for performance. Alongside TrackMan, force plates, and dedicated short-game and putting areas, we are proud to offer the RoboGolfPro® — a unique robotic trainer that allows golfers to feel and repeat the perfect swing. Combined with video analysis and coaching, this makes The Range one of the most advanced training centres in Europe. For Winter Tour players, it’s the ideal environment to prepare at the highest level.

Why is it important to support a circuit like this, and what values do you share with the Winter Tour?

The Winter Tour represents ambition, development, and opportunity — values that we fully share at The Range Marbella. ÁLVARO ARIZABALETA, Manager of The Winter Tour The Winter Tour is now in its third season. Please can you describe what the tournament is all about and explain what makes it so special for both professional and amateur players?

This is the only winter tour in Europe that gives invites to the DP World Tour and the Hotel Planner Tour for professionals. At the same time, amateurs can earn points for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), which makes it valuable for both beginners and those looking to move up to the elite level.

As well as golf, participants enjoy the best weather, the best courses and the experience of an organising team made up of players and former players who understand what the competitors need. Each tournament is organised professionally, making the Winter Tour a great example of this.

In the first two editions, there has been a lot of growth in level and participation, even with well-known names in golf. How would you assess this change, and what are the most important moments so far?

The Winter Tour Marbella has changed a lot over time. The first time, there were 40 players; the second time, there were an average of 70; and this year, the goal is to reach 100, which is the most people that can take part. The event has grown steadily over the years, which shows that people like the tour. It is competitive, well organised and a really nice way to see the Costa del Sol. The tournament’s goal is to become the most prestigious international winter event. What are you doing now to achieve that goal, and what new developments can we expect in the 2025–2026 season?

REAL GUADALHORCE CLUB DE GOLF El Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2025 regresará del 27 al 30 de noviembre al Real Guadalhorce Club de Golf, consolidando al club malagueño como sede de referencia para grandes citas internacionales. From 14 September, the Mijas Municipal Golf School will start at its academy. The programme will run until June 2026 and will introduce children aged 6 and over to the sport.

The one-hour classes will be held every Saturday during term time. They will take place in a safe and professional environment and at three different times (from 9:30 to 10:30, from 10:30 to 11:30 and from 11:30 to 12:30). Here, students can learn to play golf or improve their technique in classes with a qualified pro.

The classes include all the necessary equipment and cost £50 per month.

¿Quién puede apuntarse?

La escuela está abierta a todo el mundo, aunque la prioridad es para los niños de Benahavís. Si queda espacio, también acogemos a alumnos de fuera, porque cada vez hay más interés. ¿Cómo es el método de enseñanza?

Con los más pequeños trabajamos sobre todo a través del juego. A esa edad lo importante es que disfruten, que desarrollen coordinación y psicomotricidad. Ya con los grupos de competición, el entrenamiento se vuelve más técnico: salidas al campo, swing y preparación más específica. En adultos

la técnica es la misma, aunque siempre cuesta un poco más.

En estos años, ¿cómo ha evolucionado la escuela?

En general la evolución ha sido muy buena y ahora tenemos alumnos de todas las nacionalidades, de hecho, cada vez hay de más sitios. Además, hay que tener en cuenta lo que yo llamo “el efecto Julia”, de la que he sido entrenador aquí en la escuela y ahora está en lo más alto del golf profesional, jugando en la LPGA en América. El éxito de jugadoras como Julia López o María Purroy ha inspirado a los más jóvenes: ya no vienen solo a jugar, sino con la ilusión de llegar lejos y dar el salto a universidades americanas.

Así que, imagínate todos los niños que vienen aquí que ya tienen referentes.

En Benahavís, se pueden hacer muchos deportes, baloncesto, skate, fútbol, natación, etc., pero ahora los niños vienen a la escuela diciendo: quiero ser como Julia, me quiero ir a América y quiero entrenar. También llegan de otros clubes preguntando por el entrenador de Julia o de María Purroy, (ríe), pero dar clase a gente de ese nivel te absorbe todo tu tiempo y es complicado.

a Escuela Municipal de Golf de Benahavís nació en 2009 como un proyecto modesto y hoy es una referencia en la Costa del Sol. Al frente está Manuel Araújo, entrenador y motor de un proyecto respaldado desde sus inicios por el Ayuntamiento de la localidad, que apostó decididamente por el golf como parte de su estrategia de promoción deportiva y turística.

¿Cómo surge la Escuela Municipal de Golf de Benahavís?

En 2009 tuve una reunión con el alcalde, José Antonio Mena. Yo venía de competir y estaba en ese punto de decidir si seguir jugando o dedicarme de lleno a la enseñanza. Le propuse empezar con una pequeña escuela, sin grandes pretensiones, y así arrancamos con seis niños. Hoy tenemos unas 300 inscripciones al año, de las que alrededor de 140 alumnos, entre adultos y niños, entrenan semanalmente.

El Ayuntamiento de Benahavís es conocido por su apuesta por el deporte en general. ¿Cómo encaja el golf en esa estrategia?

Como decía antes, Benahavís es un ejemplo de municipio que invierte en deporte como motor social y educativo.

Aquí los niños pueden elegir entre fútbol, baloncesto, golf… El ayuntamiento facilita que tengan esa variedad y nosotros tratamos de convertir el golf en una opción sólida, tanto para quienes lo ven como una afición como para quienes sueñan con ser profesionales. ¿Qué retos ve por delante?

Yo, como entrenador estoy todo el día viendo a niños y jóvenes y sinceramente creo que la Federación Andaluza debería apoyar más a los niños que están en ese punto intermedio, los que no destacan aún, pero tienen potencial.

Muchos se quedan en el camino por falta de oportunidades, y ahí es donde deberíamos trabajar más.

Con pasión, cercanía y visión de futuro, Manuel Araújo se ha consolidado como uno de los grandes formadores de promesas del golf andaluz. Su trabajo, unido al respaldo del Ayuntamiento de Benahavís, ha convertido a esta escuela en un semillero de talento y en un modelo de cómo el deporte puede transformar a una comunidad.

So, how did the Benahavís Municipal Golf School come about?

In 2009, I met with the mayor, José Antonio Mena. I had just finished competing and was at I was at the point of deciding whether to continue playing or to devote myself fully to teaching. We started with just six children, and the school has grown from there. Today, we have around 300 enrolments a year, of which around 140 students, including adults and children, who train weekly.

Who can sign up?

The school is open to everyone, although priority is given to children from Benahavís. If there is space, we also welcome students from outside the area because interest is constantly growing.

What is the teaching method like?

With the youngest children, we mainly use play-based learning. At that age, the important thing is that they enjoy themselves and develop coordination and psychomotor skills. With the competition groups, training becomes more technical, involving outings to the course and more specific preparation. With adults, the technique is the same, although it always takes a little more effort.

How has the school changed over the years?

What challenges do you foresee?

As a coach, I spend all day observing

children and young people, and I am convinced that the Andalusian Federation should provide more support for children in the intermediate stage.

Whilst these individuals are not yet prominent in their field, they have the potential to become leaders in their respective areas. A significant number of these opportunities are not being utilised, and this is an area where we should be focusing our efforts.
