A NEW ERA IN SMART CARTS Make money from every ride and make your vehicles safer. Sounds like a hole in one.
YOUR OWN PROFIT ENGINE New business models bring high profit margins. A golf cart renting for $100 per day over three months turns into a $9,000 revenue stream per cart. Scale this up with an entire fleet and rentals become a hugely profitable service—and something you can track in real time to ensure vehicles are offered and returned at optimal locations. PROTECT YOUR GREATEST ASSET More than 30,000 golf carts are stolen in the U.S. yearly. From precise GPS and geofencing features to 24/7 security, using a software platform for your vehicles is the greatest way to ensure cart safety and longevity. Watch vehicles move in real time on the live map, and enforce safety zones using a dashboard that runs around the clock checking for battery health, performance metrics, idle time, utilization and more.

MEASURE WHAT MATTERS KPIs THAT DRIVE GOLF CART DEALERSHIP SUCCESS
"What gets measured gets managed" isn't just a business cliché – it's the difference between running your dealership on instinct versus running it with insight. But with countless metrics available, which numbers truly deserve your attention? As a golf cart dealer, you're juggling inventory, sales, service, and customer relationships – all while trying to maintain profitability. The right Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) act as your dealership's dashboard, helping you spot opportunities and address issues before they become problems. BEYOND THE BOTTOM LINE Most dealers keep a close eye on revenue and profit – as they should. But these "lagging indicators" only tell you what's already happened. The most valuable KPIs are those that help predict future performance and guide your decision-making. SALES DEPARTMENT KPIs Closing Ratio: This fundamental metric shows the percentage of prospects that convert to sales. If your team talks to 50 potential customers but only sells 10 carts, your closing ratio is 20%. Low ratios might indicate training needs, process issues, or inventory misalignment with customer demand. Average Days in Inventory: How long does a cart typically sit on your lot before selling? Extended timeframes tie up capital and often lead to price reductions. Track this by cart type – new luxury models might move differently than pre-owned utility carts. Profit Per Unit: Looking beyond gross sales, this metric reveals which models, brands, or cart types generate the most profit. You might discover that while premium models bring higher gross revenue, midrange carts actually deliver better margins. Lead Response Time: How quickly does your team follow up with inquiries? Studies consistently show that prospects who receive a response within an hour are dramatically more likely to convert than those who wait longer. SERVICE DEPARTMENT KPIs Labor Efficiency: Compare the hours billed to customers against the hours technicians are on the clock. If your technicians are paid for 40 hours but only bill 25 hours of customer work, your efficiency is 62.5% – signaling an opportunity for process improvement. Parts Fill Rate: What percentage of service jobs can be completed without waiting for parts? Higher rates mean faster turnaround times, improved customer satisfaction, and more efficient use of your service bay space. Customer Return Rate: What percentage of service customers come back for their next maintenance need? This loyalty metric often predicts dealership longevity better than almost any other measure. Service Absorption: Can your service department cover your dealership's fixed operating expenses? High-performing dealerships often achieve service absorption rates of 85% or higher, providing stability during slower sales periods. MARKETING KPIs Cost Per Lead: Divide your marketing expense by the number of qualified leads generated. This helps identify which channels deliver 28 www.GolfCarting.com
the best return on investment. Website Conversion Rate: What percentage of website visitors take a desired action – requesting information, scheduling a test drive, or calling your dealership? Low rates might indicate website issues or misalignment with customer needs. Customer Acquisition Cost: How much do you spend, on average, to acquire each new customer? This comprehensive measure includes marketing, sales salaries, and other costs associated with bringing in new business. CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE KPIs Net Promoter Score (NPS): This simple metric asks customers how likely they are to recommend your dealership on a scale of 0-10. Promoters (9-10) minus Detractors (0-6) gives you your NPS. Higher scores correlate strongly with business growth. First-Time Fix Rate: What percentage of service issues are resolved on the first visit? Nothing frustrates customers more than having to return multiple times for the same problem. IMPLEMENTING KPIS IN YOUR DEALERSHIP Start by choosing just 5-7 KPIs that address your current business challenges. Too many metrics can lead to analysis paralysis rather than actionable insights. Create simple systems for data collection. Modern dealer management systems can automate much of this process, but even basic spreadsheets can track essential metrics effectively. Schedule regular review sessions – weekly for operational KPIs and monthly for strategic measures. The frequency of review often determines how quickly you can respond to trends. Most importantly, share relevant KPIs with your team. When employees understand what's being measured and why it matters, they naturally focus their efforts on improving those metrics. STARTING TOMORROW Begin with these three steps: 1. Identify which KPIs matter most to your current business challenges 2. Set up simple tracking systems for those metrics 3. Schedule your first data review session Remember, the goal isn't perfect measurement – it's better decision-making. Even approximations of these metrics will provide valuable insights compared to no data at all. Your competition is likely still operating primarily on instinct. By implementing even basic KPI tracking, you gain a significant competitive advantage through clearer insights, faster course corrections, and more strategic resource allocation. In the end, KPIs aren't about numbers – they're about clarity. And in today's competitive market, clarity might be the most valuable asset your dealership can possess.

Lifted & Lowered Golf Carts takes an EZGO from wrecked to racing-ready with jaw-dropping results
W
hen a company named "Lifted & Lowered Golf Carts" has only showcased the "lifted" half of their expertise, something's got to give. That's exactly what happened when Ryder Parkhill, owner of the Midwest-based dealership with locations in Missouri and Illinois, decided it was time to create the ultimate speed demon demonstration vehicle. "We've done a bunch of lifted builds, but we've never done a lowered race-type golf cart," Parkhill told me when I caught up with him recently. "We always wanted something really fast around the dealership to show people - if your golf cart's not fast enough, take a seat in this thing and you'll understand what real speed feels like."
FROM WRECKAGE TO RACE-READY The foundation for this project came when a customer traded in a wrecked 2015 EZGO TXT. While most would see a twisted mess, Parkhill and his general manager saw the perfect blank canvas for their race build dreams. "We tore it down to the bare frame and motor and fully built it up from there," Parkhill explained. "Every single nut and bolt on this cart has been replaced." The transformation began by notching the front frame 2-3 inches to achieve the aggressive lowered stance. The frame received a pristine coat of "prismatic powder blue" - representing the company's brand colors - while the body was finished in a sleek Nardo gray, creating a striking two-tone color scheme for the build. PERFORMANCE TO MATCH THE LOOKS What makes this build truly special is what's powering
GOLF CARTING MAGAZINE 35
it. Originally planned with a 600-amp controller and 5-kilowatt motor, the team pivoted when Navitas released their new 850-amp controller paired with a 7.5-kilowatt motor. "Powering that big Navitas controller is a 70.4-volt Eco Battery with 105-amp hour capacity," Parkhill said. "With this setup, it'll run anywhere from 50 to 65 miles per hour." The cart rolls on 14-inch MODZ Drift wheels finished in gloss black, wrapped in Terrasect street radials for maximum grip. Jake's hydraulic disc brakes up front and factory discs in the rear provide the stopping power needed for those speeds. THE DETAILS MAKE THE DIFFERENCE Perhaps most impressive is the attention to detail throughout. "Every piece of plastic on this cart has been sanded, primered, and painted in Nardo gray," Parkhill noted. This comprehensive color treatment gives the cart a cohesive, professional appearance that elevates it beyond typical custom builds. Inside, MODZ FS3 seats with the company's embroidered logo provide both style and support. A VIP 36 www.GolfCarting.com
dash houses JBL speakers, and additional JBL speakers are mounted throughout. A custom sound box for a JBL Bass Pro Go subwoofer was built into the rear, which can actually be detached and used as a portable Bluetooth speaker. THE ROAD AHEAD While the cart stays busy impressing customers at their dealership locations, Parkhill has bigger plans. "Our goal is to definitely take it to some golf cart events. The community is growing so strong year after year, and we've met a lot of really good people in the industry." For a company that specializes in selling multiple lines of golf carts and offering everything from custom builds to rentals and leasing, this race-inspired build showcases what's possible when the team gets to flex their creative muscles. "It was a challenge," Parkhill admitted, particularly about mounting the controller and extensive wiring. "But we were one of the first few in the industry that installed that motor and controller setup, so it was worth it." Speed demons, take note: "lifted" isn't the only way to turn heads on the golf cart path.

PEACHTREE CITY WHERE LIFE ROLLS AT 15 MPH In our ongoing series exploring America's most golf cartfriendly communities, we visit Peachtree City, Georgia - a pioneering planned community where golf carts aren't just a convenience but a way of life.
W
hen real estate developers began amassing over 12,000 acres of farmland in Fayette County, Georgia in the 1950s, they envisioned something revolutionary: a master-planned community where residents could navigate their daily lives without always relying on traditional automobiles. What began as a bold concept officially chartered on March 9, 1959, has evolved into one of America's most distinctive and livable communities.

A NETWORK LIKE NO OTHER: THE PATH SYSTEM BY THE NUMBERS Peachtree City's hallmark feature is its remarkable multiuse path system: • Over 100 miles of paved paths • Connects all five villages that make up the city • Accessible by golf cart, bicycle, or on foot • Features bridges, tunnels, and underpasses for crossing major roads • Population of approximately 38,000 residents • Consistently ranked among America's most livable cities "Peachtree City's multi-use path system is more
than just a transportation network. It's a part of who we are with over 100 miles of paths off. Our residents can reach schools, parks, shopping and restaurants by golf cart,” stated Peachtree City mayor, Kim Learnard. “It's a lifestyle that sets us apart. And brings a sense of freedom, fun and connection to everyday life.” BEYOND BASIC TRANSPORTATION In Peachtree City, golf carts have transcended their origins on the fairway to become the preferred mode of transportation for many residents. The city's embrace of these vehicles has created a distinct culture all its own. The golf cart culture developed organically as the path system expanded. Today, it's a defining characteristic of the community, with many residents customizing their carts to reflect their personalities and interests. The city's accommodations for golf carts are comprehensive, with designated parking areas at shopping centers, schools, recreation facilities, and even houses of worship. Many homes feature special golf cart garages or carports, and local businesses have adapted to serve this unique market. A COMMUNITY BUILT FOR CONNECTION While many communities have adapted to accommodate golf carts after development, Peachtree City stands apart as one of the few places where multi-modal transportation was central to the original master plan. The city is organized into five distinct villages—Aberdeen, Braelinn, Glenloch, Kedron, and Wilksmoor—each with its own shopping areas, recreational facilities, and elementary schools, all connected by the path system. This thoughtful design creates both privacy and accessibility, allowing residents to enjoy natural settings while still having convenient access to amenities. The path system winds through natural settings of lakes, parks,

communityspotlight and playgrounds, creating countless opportunities for chance encounters and spontaneous socializing. The benefits extend beyond convenience. Residents report significant savings from reducing their reliance on traditional vehicles, with lower fuel costs, reduced maintenance expenses, and the ability to postpone teen driving in favor of golf cart usage for younger family members. RECREATION AND LIFESTYLE While golf is certainly an attraction with three golf courses within the city limits, Peachtree City's recreational offerings extend far beyond the fairways. The community boasts numerous parks, sports facilities, and natural areas including: • • • • •
The 500-acre Flat Creek Nature Area with boardwalks through wetlands Lake Peachtree and Lake Kedron for fishing and nonmotorized boating The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater ("The Fred") hosting concerts and events Multiple tennis centers, swimming pools, and sports fields Nearby connections to Line Creek Nature Area
The city hosts numerous community events throughout the year, including a significant 4th of July celebration, the Shakerag Arts & Crafts Festival, and various cultural festivals. CREATING COMMUNITY THROUGH TRANSPORTATION Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Peachtree City is how the golf cart culture has shaped social interactions. The open-air, slower pace of golf cart travel encourages
residents to wave at neighbors, stop for impromptu conversations, and engage with their surroundings in a way that enclosed, faster-moving vehicles don't allow. “There's something truly special about traveling through town at 15 miles per hour,” noted Learnard, who has been a long-time resident of Peachtree City. “Our paths create moments to wave to neighbors, chat with friends, and enjoy the ride. It's not just about where you're going–it's about the connections you make along the way.” This sense of connectivity extends to safety as well. The city consistently ranks among the safest in Georgia, with the path system allowing residents of all ages to maintain independence without the risks associated with driving on busy roads. As the city continues to grow and evolve, the commitment to golf cart accessibility remains central to planning, with new developments required to connect to the existing path system. In Peachtree City, they haven't just created paths for golf carts—they've paved the way for a different approach to suburban living entirely. FAST FACTS: PEACHTREE CITY Location: Fayette County, Georgia, approximately 25 miles southwest of Atlant Population: Approximately 38,000 residents Golf Cart Culture: Over 10,000 registered golf carts with extensive path infrastructure Recreation: 3 golf courses, multiple recreation centers, lakes, nature areas, and the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater Notable Features: 100+ miles of multi-use paths connecting five village centers Website: Peachtree-City.org

askthemechanic Q: Why is there a large range of prices for lithium batteries? What makes them different? A: Price is always a concern, however be aware that a lower price tag will ultimately lead to lower quality. When shopping for a lithium battery, I highly recommended to first get one with a metal case. Lower price point batteries typically use plastic cases which are less durable and don't offer the same protection against external factors like pressure or impacts. Additionally, they can be more susceptible to heat-related issues and deformation under stress, potentially leading to safety concerns. Second, you have to be aware of the continuous discharge rate. Batteries that have a BMS (battery management system) with continuous amperage rated at 100ah will likely shut down under heavy loads and are not suited for golf cart use, especially non stock configurations. I recommend at least 175ah minimum to not have issues with long term use. I should note that these "budget friendly" companies typically use B grade cells to save cost creating a shorter lifespan. Third, after-sale support should be important for warranty purposes. Look for battery companies that have an established dealer base that supports the brand and could help resolve any issues that may occur down the line. A battery is the most important part of your cart, so do your homework, talk to some dealers on their opinions and do it the right way the first time. Q: How do I bypass my 'OBC' in my Club Car? I am installing a lithium battery and heard this was required. A: Bypassing the On-Board Computer (OBC) in a Club Car golf cart is a common procedure when the OBC fails or when upgrading to an lithium battery or aftermarket charger that doesn't rely on the OBC for battery management. However, it's crucial to understand that bypassing the OBC disables its safety features and charging control. This means you'll need to be diligent about monitoring your battery voltage and charge times to prevent overcharging or undercharging, which can damage your batteries. Here's a general overview of how to bypass the OBC. Keep in mind that specific wiring can vary depending on the year and model of your Club Car. Always consult your golf cart's wiring diagram or a qualified technician if you are unsure. General Steps for Bypassing the OBC: 1. Safety First! • Ensure the golf cart is turned off and the key is removed. • Set the Run/Tow switch to the "Tow" position. • Disconnect the main battery pack negative cable. 2. Locate the OBC: The OBC is typically a black box located near/behind the batteries with wires coming out from it. 3. Identify Key Wires: You'll need to identify the wires connected to the OBC that control the charging circuit. These often include: • Main Positive and Negative Battery Cables: These are the thickest wires connected to the battery pack. • Charger Receptacle Wires: Wires running from the charging port on the cart to the OBC. There are usually 48 www.GolfCarting.com
three wires: positive, negative, and a sense wire (often gray or white). • Controller Wires: Wires running from the OBC to the motor controller. These can vary depending on the model (IQ, Excel, Series). 4. Bypass Wiring: The goal is to connect the charger receptacle directly to the battery pack, bypassing the OBC's control. The specific connections depend on your cart model: • For connecting an aftermarket charger directly to the batteries: • Connect the positive wire from the charger receptacle directly to the main positive terminal of your battery pack. • Connect the negative wire from the charger receptacle directly to the main negative terminal of your battery pack. • The sense wire from the charger receptacle, which previously went to the OBC, will likely not be used with a non-OBC charger. Ensure it is safely insulated to prevent shorts. • For maintaining power to the controller (specific to cart model): • IQ and Excel Carts: Often involves connecting the white or red/white wire (with an inline fuse, typically 10 amp) directly to the main positive battery terminal. • Regen 2 Carts: Similar to IQ and Excel, maintaining the correct fused connection for the electrical system. • Series Carts: Typically involves disconnecting the yellow wire from the OBC and rerouting it directly to the controller's B- terminal or the pack negative. 5. Secure Connections: Ensure all new connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent short circuits or corrosion. Use appropriate connectors and terminal ends. 6. Reconnect Battery and Test: • Reconnect the main battery pack negative cable. • Switch the Run/Tow switch to "Run." • Carefully test the aftermarket charger. Monitor the charging process closely, especially during the first few cycles. Important Considerations: • Loss of OBC Functions: Bypassing the OBC means you lose its built-in charging control, overcharge protection, and potentially some diagnostic functions. • Manual Charging Responsibility: You become responsible for ensuring the batteries are charged correctly and not overcharged. Using a high-quality aftermarket charger with its own automatic shut-off features is highly recommended. There are OBC bypass kits specifically designed for your Club Car model. These kits typically include detailed instructions and the necessary wiring components for a safer and more straightforward installation. You can find these kits from various golf cart parts suppliers. If you are not comfortable working with electrical systems, please consult a qualified golf cart technician to perform the OBC bypass.
