BLOOMINGTON GOLD COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES Bloomington Gold and Lucas Oil Stadium are working closely with the state and local health departments to make sure you have a safe and healthy visit to our 2020 event! The following is an overview of what we are doing to ensure the cleanliness of our event, the stadium and the health of attendees and staff. BLOOMINGTON GOLD ADDS A NEW LEVEL OF

GOLD STANDARD JUDGING A new trend for Corvette restoration has populated the landscape and it is now officially a level of Bloomington Gold Judging. This would be the ever increasing trend of restoring an older car to have some of the technical features of a newer model which then becomes known as a Resto Mod. “Restoration is like the skyline of a big city. There are numerous buildings in height, shape and width and we recognize that everyone’s preference for the type of Corvette they like best is just as diverse,“ says Guy Larsen, President and Judging Director at Bloomington Gold. “So after much consideration, discussion and testing,” continues Larsen, “Bloomington Gold decided to offer Resto Mod as a division of Judging at Bloomington Gold. In fact, we are excited to say that we will start judging them this September in Indy.” Looking for clarification on what a Resto Mod is? It’s actually as simple as it is complex. Basically, a Resto Mod is a vehicle (in this case a Corvette) that has been put back together with the addition of some modern parts that were not on the car when it left the factory. The purpose for doing this is so that it drives and handles like a newer model, while keeping the authentic look of the older model.

For Bloomington Gold’s standards, a RESTO MOD “recognizes the seamless integration of today’s possibilities into yesterday’s performers by applying today’s capabilities and styling enhancements that result in improved styling, handling, performance, and comfort to modern standards while retaining a classic original design”. Bloomington Gold is recognized world-wide for its prestigious judging process of Corvettes and the authentication a Bloomington Gold Certified® brings to a Corvette. Each year, Corvette owners bring their Corvettes to be judged for Certification. The reason for doing so are many, but each has one final goal: to have their car be awarded either GOLD CERTIFIED®, SURVIVOR®, RESTO MOD or the much coveted BENCHMARK® award.

Keeping You Safe During Certification Hey everyone – in case you haven’t met me yet, I am the Judging Operations Manager at Bloomington Gold. This has been one crazy year but to be honest, we are so excited that we are going to go on with the show in Indianapolis. We have been working hard to give you a great show and hey, we finally don’t have to worry about rain. How great is that? So, I just wanted to touch base with you in the event you are unsure of bringing your car and to assure you that we will be doing everything we can to keep the certification area, along with the car owners and the judges, as safe as possible. We also realize with the continuing challenges of the COVID-19 virus, we need to make the environment at the show a bit different then in the past. We will exercise extreme caution with all owners and respect their concerns without changing the integrity of the judging. We will release in advance explicit instructions for both the owners and the judges as to what the procedures will be this year during the judging process. For example: • • • •

Owner Check-in will be very different this year. The biggest change will be having a very specific time to enter the building and park your car on Thursday (starts first thing in the morning) so that we can keep the process orderly. Judges will wear masks during the entire judging process. Owners will wear masks when they come in contact with Bloomington Gold Staff and Certification team members. Owners will receive their own set of disposable gloves, pen and hand sanitizer when they check in for certification.

Jocelyn is also working with the Stadium to compile the CDC safety guidelines that we will follow for the whole show. We have some gorgeous cars signed up for judging already but do have room for a few more so if you were on the fence about this year, rest assured we will take good care of you… inside! You will be able to have chairs near your cars as wind won’t be a factor, crazy huh? Bottom line, we want the attendees, the Gold Certification owners and judges to feel completely safe. 2020 A Tribute to

The Father of the

Zora Arkus-Duntov Corvette Zora Arkus-Duntov joined General Motors as an assistant staff engineer in 1953 and began the challenge of saving the Corvette. He knew performance was the answer, and introduced the 265 CID V8 as an optional engine for 1955. Along with a major styling change for 1956, Zora again added increased horsepower, and in 1957, Rochester Ram-Jet Fuel Injection. Sales increased, and by 1961, passed the 10,000 mark. Corvette was well on its way to earning the title of “America’s Only Sportscar!”. Zora retired in 1975 as Corvette’s Chief Engineer. He died in Detroit on April 21, 1996. Pulitzer Prize winning columnist George Will wrote in Zora’s obituary: “If you do not mourn his passing, you are not a good American.” The 2020 Gold Collection will present significant Corvettes reflecting Zora’s influence.
