he last weekend of June is long past and the leaves are now beginning to change.
THANK YOU to all that attended, whether you own, repair/restore, or just love Corvettes, as well as our vendors, sponsors, and dedicated judges, volunteers and staff. We hope you had as much fun as we did. What a great show this year! The move to Champaign was a success and the numbers show that you agree, with attendance and number of vendors up as well as an increase in Corvettes in the Gold Tour! Speaking of the Tour, what a great ride that was this year. The folks along the route and in the city square of Monticello brought much excitement to the Tour with their support and cheering as Vettes drove by! Certification and Survivor Judging was a great success and 14 Corvettes achieved the Benchmark Award! Congratulations to all participants. Lastly, a big Thank You to the city of Champaign for their support and hospitality! We look forward to seeing everyone the last weekend of June, 2014!

ongratulations to all our Charter Members for making the inaugural year of the Gold Membership program a resounding success. While there were many highlights of the weekend, one of my favorites was the Friday night reception where good friends, new and old, where able to wine and dine among each other. Thank you to everyone that came by the member tent throughout the Show to hang out and refresh; it was great to chat with all of you. Since then, we have seen many of you at other car events and we always enjoy you stopping by the Bloomington Gold booth to say hello. As the holiday season approaches, keep in mind that Gold Membership would be a great gift for any Corvette Enthusiast you know that is not yet a Member. Thank you for attending the 40th Annual Bloomington Gold Corvette Show in Champaign at the U of I Campus. We were beyond thrilled to host so many passionate Corvette owners and enthusiasts in our great community. It was a sight to see the streets of Champaign County overtaken by Corvettes, from the lots at the show to the streets of Downtown Champaign. The feedback is in from area businesses, hotels and residents . . . the show was a hit! Your energy that was on display throughout the community and your support of our local restaurants and shops was a tremendous boost. We hope you enjoyed the Blues, Brews & BBQ festival, which will again happen in 2014 during the show, providing built in entertainment for your Friday & Saturday evenings. While we couldn’t turn off the rain, the GoldTour was a huge success and we couldn’t be more proud of our residents cheering you on as you navigated your way through Champaign and Monticello. Champaign County provides a great experience to our visitors, with an abundance of locally-owned restaurants, shops and wonderful, unique attractions to explore. We encourage you to come back in between shows or extend your stay to see more of what we have to offer. Be sure to stay tuned to our website for even more great things coming in 2014! We are very pleased to announce that Gail Manahan started in September as the Operations Manager - Judging. She will oversee the judging process, from registration to the awards ceremony. Gail came to us from State Farm, but has also been an Assistant Store Director and an Account Representative with Proctor and Gamble. She and her husband Colin raised their family in Bloomington. Their daughter, Lauren, is a Spanish teacher in Clinton, Illinois. Their son, Colin, currently attends Heartland Community College and will transfer to Illinois State in January. Gail is a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a degree in Marketing.

What do Yo-Yo Ma, the Battle of Gettysburg and Antwerp, Belgium have in common with Bloomington Gold? Read on to find out!
Al Grenning’s expertise in engine originality, tags and documentation is what first brought him to the attention of Keith Majeur, who invited him to judge at BG more than 20 years ago. He has long been considered an authority on authenticating Corvettes, in fact he literally wrote the book! He has contributed his research to Authentication Libraries and has taught classes at GoldSchool to well attended and attentive audiences for most of those 20+ years. What you might not know about Al is that he is New York City native, but lives in upstate New York. After earning his Masters degree in Music Education which included studying in Antwerp, he ran a public school Music Department for 36 years. He has been a semi-professional conductor for over 20 years and a Craftsman member of the Piano Technicians Guild for more than 35 years. He has prepared and tuned pianos for many celebrity musicians, including the likes of Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman and Winton Marsalis. And if that isn’t enough – due to Al’s love of Civil War history he became an Associate Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg and is a member of the Gettysburg Foundation. As you can see, Al is a multi-faceted man with many interests, including Corvette restoration and history He focuses on mid-years, particularly ’65s, ‘66s and 67’s, but all years catch his interest!.

Bloomington Gold Salutes Hendrick Motorsports Engineer Richie Parker For the past eight years, Richie Parker has been an engineer at the top level of NASCAR. As a designer of chassis and body components for Hendrick Motorsports and its four Sprint Cup Series teams, the Clemson University graduate holds a job that most car lovers only dream about. While Parker was born with a limb deficiency, it has never held him back from living life to the fullest.
