Editor notes The New Season, almost like a contemporary revisit of the New Look in the 50s developed by Christian Dior, designers are back out of their home studios to the office and thus the ideas of comfort and design are once again reimagined. What had become the norm - tracksuits and staying at home, has been flipped on its head, but instead of looking at the world with the eyes we did before everything had started, it is almost like a new world, bringing in new demand for new ways of dressing. The world is quickly waking up to a new reality where fashion is back in charge with exciting hybrid shows taking place all over the world. This month we are preparing for what's to come in a few weeks with London Fashion Week. Hope you enjoy the editorials provided by Drawing Cabaret Couture in collaboration with Hannah Stote and Amy Lauffer. Deyvid Dimitrov Editor

Jeff Koons himself has called this sculpture the ‘’Trojan Horse’’ of the Celebration series, and Weng Contemporary has presented this work in a stunning editorial. It’s the only authentic limited edition depicting the free-standing Balloon Dog and it’s a reproduction of the larger sculpture of the Balloon Dog, as conceived in five unique colours (Blue, Magenta, Yellow, Orange, and Red), part of the Celebration Series started in 1994 and completed in 2000. The Balloon Dog has chameleon-like qualities; meaning it is able to immerse itself in the environment it is a part of, its reflective surface is capable of physically changing with its surroundings and its many-layered meanings make it conceptually change in the mind of the observer. This limited art edition comes from an edition size of 799 pieces and was created of Limoges porcelain and manufactured in Limoges, France. The freestanding limited edition of the Balloon Dog (Blue) requires 60 people for the production of each work and it takes a full month to complete one. Its creation combines traditional porcelain decoration techniques with new technologies which are not typically applied to ceramics; this combination allows for metallic and reflective characteristics. Each edition is signed on the inside front right leg and the signature is applied on top of the porcelain and fired in the oven.

Hannah Stote Hannah Stote is a part-time knitwear designer and maker who also works at Seasalt Cornwall as a Design Assistant. Working on a vintage knitting machine and inspired by the history of knitwear, she creates both tactile yet modern pieces, all hand knitted by herself. As well as designing for recycling, Hannah is passionate about natural fibers and especially wool, even going to the lengths to source 100% British wool for her collection. In her spare time she enjoys experimenting with new techniques on her knitting machine and making her own clothes. ‘’A Siren’s Call’’ began with a seamless jumper with hundreds of different designs, one for each fishing village in the north of England – a fisherman's gansey. The Folklore is that if a fisherman was lost at sea, he could be identified by his jumper. Full of not only history but identity too, the fisherman's gansey became the primary research for the collection and influenced many other avenues of research, such as pre-Raphaelite women (inspired by the tales of sirens), darning stitches, basket/ net weaving and faded/sun-bleached colors.

the month interview

Hi Venie! I am really excited to be interviewing you tgus month for the artist of the month feature in GoldFoil Magazine. Tell our audience a bit about yourself. Hi, I'm Venie Tee, from Malaysia. I've been drawing since very young, which got me into art college to further my art learning journey. I have worked as a fashion designer since 2005 when I won a couple of young designer awards awarded by Malaysia/Mercedes Benz Fashion Award and started part time teaching in art colleges from 2010. I’m currently focusing on illustration work and some teaching and tutoring in fashion art classes.

Did you go to university or are you selftaught? Yes I did :) I went to Central Saint Martin for BA Fine Art and Academy of Art University San Francisco for MA Illustration.

Your work is very niche, when I look through your Instagram I see a very editorial type of fashion illustration. Is that what you were always interested in or did your work evolve over time? To be honest, I’m still exploring. I love editorial fashion illustration at the moment, but I have been drawing a lot of technical fashion drawing in my work related project. I find that in editorial illustration I can be more playful with ideas.

What got you interested in art and fashion in particular? I always love to draw and paint. I especially love textured and building stuff, that got me into Fine Art and my years in London changed me apparently. I fell in love with fashion and here I am, still loving designing and drawing fashion.

41

Is there a designer you admire and you would like to work with? I love Alexander Mcqueen (and who doesn’t :p) and also Maria Grazia Chiuri (Dior) for her exquisite collaboration with the folk’s art and preserving the old techniques in new designs. And I do wish to work with Allessandro Michele, loving his colourful eccentric work!

Walk us through your art-making process? I will start with research, always with research if I have an idea. For my personal work, I usually paint directly without any thumbnails or plans. But if it's a collection project or client's project it’ll be the conventional thumbnails to draft to final, and finish with some digital touch up.

42

43

Do you have a muse and how do you find inspiration? I used to draw Coco Rocha for her amazing poses and Devon Aoki, she’s probably the muse for the faces in most of my fashion drawings. Most of my inspiration comes from editorial or books and travels pre-pandemic, and since the pandemic, the DCC session and poses have been much of an inspiration in my work.

What is your favourite work of your art? It will be painting / drawing on paper. I’m exploring the possibility of drawing on a big canvas and some murals at the moment and hope it will be fun.

And finally, what is a piece of advice you would give to your younger self or an aspiring artist? Keep drawing! And keep exploring.
