The undying fire of the artist who was waiting for the world to restart so they can go back out into the world again. In the week this magazine went in for print, events in the UK restarted, and here you find J’adore La Vie - a talented cabaret duo performing at Proud Cabaret, and Karina Bondareva, a final year student who inspired by one of the most iconic looks from McQueen took on a mission to recreate his work. We feature some of our favourite fashion designers and illustrators, we celebrate 52 weeks with Drawing Cabaret Couture, and interview Lindy Dunbar - our artist of the month.

A SUNDAY LIVE DRAWING SESSION WITH

DRAWING CABARET COUTURE Drawing Cabaret Couture was created by model and professional dancer Janet Mayer and artist & set designer Matthew Lawrence. Together they work with some of the finest fashion creatives to bring these fabulous art classes to life online. Matthew designs and builds the most dynamic sets to accompany the designer featured that week whilst Janet with her androgynous poses and flexible movements bring the designers garments alive. All to a carefully planned themed soundtrack as well as narrative promoting the designer and creatives involved.

The classes have already gained a huge global following of professional artists illustrators as well as those who simply just want to immerse themselves in this unique new drawing experience.

When taking part in a two-hour art class online you will emerge yourselves into a fresh and fantasy world letting go of preconceptions with focus on colours and shapes whilst taking inspiration from this incredible visual experience. By taking part in such creativity it is both relaxing and meditative and leaves you feeling a sense of content after the class. We do a editorial photo shoot after each class of which we can allow you to have the images also for your publication.

Creativity plays a huge part in well being and many of the artists feedback is about how these classes are helping with their own mental wellbeing. Classes start at £10 per ticket or you can join their monthly Patreon with reasonable subscription prices from just £15 per month for unlimited weekly classes. They even offer gift cards which make excellent presents for those unique gift ideas.

Drawing Cabaret Couture is an online Fashion Gallery and independent life drawing production company based in London. Creating Haute Couture performative drawing classes and immersive art events across the globe.

If you thought that live drawing is a thing of the past - think again. Thanks to Zoom, Drawing Cabaret Couture brings the experience of having fun, relaxing, and improving your art skills straight to your living room, so you never have to leave your brushes to dry again, and not even a global pandemic can stop you from creating amazing art. Janet and Matthew go above and beyond when it comes to building their sets and working with inspiring designers and artists.

Supporting them on Patreon would give you access to all of their classes for the month.

Most of the time their classes are scheduled to run in the morning, and then later in the evening again, which means it is really flexible so you do not have to compromise and miss on an incredible class.

And if you are like me, I usually like to be in my own shell hiding away and never really showing my work to anyone, don't worry, while many artists would show off their work at the end of the stream, you can have your camera switched off so you can feel free from the pressure of having other people look at your art.

Karina Bondareva McQueen Recreated

The live drawing session I attended was inspired

by Alexander McQueen.The artist Karina Bondareva took up on a challenge to recreate the iconic Horn of Plenty red dress only using ''a bunch of felt, insulation tape, paperclips, and hot glue'.

The creative team brought this incredible dress to life through their lighting expertise, the model's poses, and the high quality camera they use to capture the model and all the important details, which truly make you feel like you are in the same room.

I was really impressed by the head piece and sleeves created using pins and foil, and I thought that the way the dress folded on itself and showcased all the wonderful patch work was quite brilliant. I was really excited to see Karina’s work for the first time and I would love to follow her journey in the future. She is a final year student at Central Saint Martins.

She has had the media attention on her since last Summer when she participated in a challenge recreating red carpet looks, and she recreated a spectacular red dress entirely out of red paper only using glue.

LINDY DUNBAR an interview.

Lindy Dunbar is an incredibly talented artist from Sussex. She paints and draws straight from real life which allows her to capture emotion and motion. She has been selected in many art exhibitions over the past 15 years, some of which include Nicholas Bowlby, Star Brewery Gallery, GNT Gallery, Affordable Art Fair in London and she has seen her work printed by John Lewis since 2009.

1/ Tell us a bit about your one to look at your own work with background. Are you self- fresh eyes. Later I completed a BA taught or did you study art?

3/ What is your favourite medium to work with?

If it’s a longer study oils wear the crown!

For works on paper, I use a variety of media such as pastels, acrylic, ink [often with a roughly broken stick to keep a sense of adventure], torn brown paper as a basis for a portrait or figure in motion. I like to try and keep the work alive.

5/ What inspires you and do you have a muse?

People!

Especially dancers and acrobats whilst in motion if possible where there is a flow and energy.

6/ Walk us through your painting process.

Before this strange year I would have a model in front of me either in a drawing group or the luxury of a model to myself in my studio. Now, of necessity, I have discovered zoom and the new challenges it brings whilst creating a new way of working. I would like to thank Drawing Cabaret Couture for the magic they have brought to Zoom.

I select the media that relates best to the figure/face. Recently, in a 3 minute quick pose with a life model full figure or portrait, I have speedily torn some brown paper to focus on the direction of the body, then add charcoal maybe and a swish of colour either in pastel, ink or acrylic. The serendipity of how various media react with each other can be a delight and of course at times not quite so delightful. Alternatively perhaps intense sticks on their side with water added to attempt to portray the flow of 'Zoe's Zenith' pastel & gouache 60x42cm a costume.

I like to switch between wet and dry media. An oil portrait would begin with quick thumbnail sketches in charcoal to decide on the composition then working on the canvas initially with thin oil whilst trying to keep things alive.

7/ What is a piece of advice which you believe helped you establish yourself in the industry?

Keep your work fresh and keep searching within a drawing or painting.

An exclusive interview with the founder of the brand.

1.What made you start your own skincare brand?

I was fascinated by our everyday beauty routine. It is a calm, slow moment of the day where we have the opportunity to find clarity and rethink about our lives in our busy daily schedules. Every morning, I try to obtain the best version of myself whilst in the bathroom.

I felt that there weren’t products out there that could enhance our look in the most minimal natural way. I only found that beauty products either existed for women or men with a very strong product development for that market, but not so much makeup/skincare that truly geared towards both genders. I wanted to ultimately create products that had a natural look with an incredible efficacy, and was embracing everyone regardless of what sex they were and where they came from.

2.Tell us a bit about Portrait Modern Beauty.

Portrait is a modern unisex skincare and makeup brand based in London, UK. We are inspired by an aim to create unisex skincare & makeup that are approachable and suitable for everyone. We focus on a beauty that is minimal, light and discreet yet naturally sophisticated, for people to be slightly enhanced to bring about the extra glow to their day.

Our formulas are inspired by natural habitats with a sunny tropical climate. The abundance of sun, seawaters and exotic winds that these plants absorb creates a healing source of vitamins, minerals, positive energy and all round rejuvenation.

All of which, brings about a mindful healing component to our everyday serene morning and evening routine. This stems from the holistic calm environment these plants are surrounded by, in which we assimilate into our skin, mindset and actions.

We found that simple precious plants from mother nature were purely extraordinary for the skin, composing of invaluable elements that have been used as part of ancient beauty for centuries.

3. Are you currently working on more products?

We will be launching a face sun tan lotion, which will bring a beautiful golden skin to the fore along with tropical plant goodness. We can’t wait!

4. What is your favourite ingredient from Portrait Modern Beauty and why?

I have to say the pineapples used in our serum. We extract them from the tropical coasts off the gulf of southern Thailand where they are naturally grown in the basking sunny weather. Its such a simple ingredient, yet powerfully magical at the same time.

A white label platform EVENT@ has been created, which can be branded as each client wishes, the streaming offering can display live or pre-recorded content along with advertisement breaks for sponsor content. Live streaming can be on location at events of from one of their numerous studios across the globe and all managed inhouse. A Bolt on to the EVENT@ platform called EVENTalytics, was also created which tracks each viewer's movements across the platform giving realtime analysis and data for sponsors in easy to read metrics.”

We Are FEP recently partnered with Emerging Talents Milan, a high end independent agency with a platform offering a runway show, presentation and showroom in Milan but also offering a place where industry professionals - journalists, stylists, buyers, bloggers can all meet in person with the designers and their team to grow their business.

The Girls JANET MAYER - was born in

Shrewsbury, England and was raised on a farm in the Shropshire countryside. She went on to start her professional training as a dancer at the age of 16 after receiving a scholarship at The Hammond School Chester. ​In 2010 she graduated with a National Diploma in professional dance, and later graduated from Middlesex University London with a BA Honours in Professional Practice of the Arts.
