Who is Crystal? Crystal Swain-Bates is a celebrated children's book author, entrepreneur, and publishing coach on a mission to positively reshape the way children of color all over the world see themselves. Fed up with the lack of black children's books on the market, Crystal founded Goldest Karat Publishing in order to address the lack of diversity in children's literature. Crystal’s work has been featured in Essence Magazine, CNN, the Huffington Post, and on television shows such as BET’s “The Game” and “Being Mary Jane.” She regularly consults with major publishing companies such as Ingram, the world’s largest global distributor of books, and Amazon, on how aspiring authors can leverage those platforms and find success. To further address the need for greater diversity in children’s books and products, she founded BrownGirlsClub.com, an online store of bedding, t-shirts, party supplies, and other children's gifts featuring black characters.

A native of Atlanta, GA, Crystal holds a Master's degree in International Affairs from Florida State University and is an avid world traveler.
