Work to clear blocked drains across Golden Plains Shire will be fast tracked following the arrival of a new Komatsu PC78 excavator.
Council has established a program to clear blocked and overgrown drains following record rainfall in October and November 2022 which led to severe flooding in parts of the Shire. The new excavator will play a vital role in clearing drains and ensuring better roadside drainage as wet weather sets in.

Two full-time road maintenance staff have also been assigned to operate the excavator to clear overgrown and blocked drains, initially focusing on
neighbourhoods and communities most affected by last year’s storms.
Council has allocated a record amount to road repairs, maintenance and improvements in its Draft Budget 2023/24 with $2.7 million allocated to road repairs and maintenance, and $3.4 million towards road improvements.
