管委会主席献词 President’ s Message

南无佛！各位委员、各位法师、各位居士：大家吉祥！

僧人是三宝之一，是佛陀现世精神的具体代表，它是三宝中唯一代代相传。寺庙是庄严国土，利乐有情，净化 人心，弘法利生的重要场所，也是千百年佛教文化凝聚的实体表现。回眸2019年我寺僧众在各位委员及广大 护法善信的鼎力支持下，弘法工作和社会企业取得很大的发展。仅此，我代表护国金塔寺常住衷心感谢大家！ 《六祖坛经》中有一首惠能大师所说的偈：【佛法在世间，不离世间觉；离世觅菩提，恰如求兔角。 】字面 上的意思是说：佛法是在世间，得不离世间，才能得到佛法的觉悟；如果离开了世间，而想要觅得佛法三乘菩 提的觉悟，就如同想要去找到一只头上长着角的兔子一样，是无有是处。古印度梵文的菩提，就是汉文的「 觉」，因为觉悟了诸法的真实性。 社会则是道场；生活则是修行。在我闭关完满三载而言，现在是我人生标志着进入一个新阶段，站在一个新的 起点。哲人有句话是我座右铭：「创造机会的人是勇者。等待机会的人是愚者。能说不能行，不是真智慧。」 我一直在学习如何贯彻社会企业和佛教传播的推动源。我认为学习和贯彻两者是紧密不可分的一整体，它们是 我寺领导僧侣和信徒爱国爱教的一个具体表现，也是加强僧侣信众与国家政策紧密联系的一个重要途径。 遗教经中有句话说：「制心一处，无事不办。」这句话对现代人而言是特别用得上。译意就是要你专心、专 一，只要心专一，把杂念放下，智慧自然就会成长，心浮气躁成不了大事。

学习需要有计划。下定决心才是成功的关键。信心就是动力、毅力就是坚持、勇气就是承担；三者俱备，则天 下没有做不成的事。人生要给自己定目标；有了目标就坚持完成任务。这才是人在社会上正真价值。 展望未来，我寺积极推进僧侣和信徒勤行精进「慈悲喜舍」的精神，共同发心架起大爱的桥梁，建设温柔敦厚 美好的社会。 再一次感谢大家的支持！祝愿各位委员、各位法师、各位居士：福乐安康，诸事吉祥！ 愿得三宝的加持。

Namo Buddha! Blessings to all members, sangha and devotees!

Sangha is one of the Triple Gems, it is the representation of Buddha’s Spirit in today’s world. It is the only Triple Gem that is handed down from generation to generation. The temple is an important place that signifies Pure Land and propagates Buddhism to benefit and purifies people’s hearts. It is also the physical manifestation of rich Buddhist cultural heritage. In 2019, with the support of the sangha in our monastery, the committee members and dedicated devotees, we have achieved a great success in our dharma propagation and charity works. On behalf of the Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple, I would to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone. Thank you!

There is a gatha by Zen Master Hui Neng in the Sutra of the Sixth Zen Patriarch:“You can never find the Truth of Bodhi out of this mortal world.”It means that Buddha’s Teachings is relevant and applicable to our everyday life, do not search elsewhere for Enlightenment. The word‘Bodhi’in ancient Sanskrit is similar to the Chinese word“jue”(觉), means‘to realize the Truth of Dharma’.

Society is an ashram and life is a learning journey. After three years of meditation retreat, this is the beginning of a new phase of my life - my new starting point. There is a saying that is my motto:‘Those who create opportunities are brave; those who wait for opportunities are fools. Talk without action is not true wisdom!’. I have been learning how to implement the strength in of social enterprises to drive the propagation of Buddhism. In my opinion, learning and implementation are inseparable factors to success. These are the qualities that should be instilled by the leading sangha and devotees of our temple. They are also the important strengthening factors, closely knitting between the sangha and devotees to the national policies.

Here is a saying in the Legacy Scripture:“There is nothing unachievable, if you focus hard enough”.

This quote is practically useful for people in the modern world. Focus on your objective without any distractions, the wisdom will naturally grow and accomplishment will be within your reach. There cannot be any significant achievement with a flickering and impetuous Mind.

Learning needs planning. Determination is the key to success. Confidence is a motivational factor.

Perseverance is to persist, and courage is the commitment. With these three qualities, nothing is impossible. Set your goals and stick to it. This is the true value of a man in this society.

Looking forward to the future, we will actively promote the spirit of‘compassion, happiness and sharing’among our sangha and devotees. Together, we aim to build the bridge of love, reaching out to share our vision of a sincere and beautiful society.

简介 Introduction

护国金塔寺缘起

人生幸福，需要有人间的福德资粮;要成就无上菩提，更 要世间与出世间的菩提资粮无上的智慧与大悲所成就的广 大福德是大乘佛法中，最重要的两支轮轴，推动着佛法向 前，帮助一切众生圆满无上菩提，成就佛果。

生净土安养。以信愿念佛为因，求生西方极乐世界莲花 化身见佛闻法为果。同时，念佛团的莲友们也积极参与社 区推广各项慈善活动，藉由“日行一善“的付出爱心来修 心。目前，参加念佛团的莲友约有600多位。

1988年成立勤修净土念佛团，法照师父领众信徒提倡信 愿西方净士，秉承佛陀慈悲喜舍四无量心，劝人修善福德 智慧，常念阿弥陀佛，临终正念昭彰，转极苦为极乐，往

琉璃坊目前已暂时停刊。

法照师父慈悲，时常关心众生疾苦，为了要改善众生的苦 厄，特别着重于修持药师法门，祈求佛力的加持下，受苦 受难的众生远离所有的病危灾障，得到吉祥幸福的人生， 并且能够无灾无难直到圆满成佛。在三宝加护下于1989 年因缘成熟觅得吉地，多年筹建药师道场的宿愿得成，取 名为护国金塔寺。寺院的施工建设自1990年开始，1992 年竣工，并在同一年，注册成为合法团体，1995年注册 成为慈善署。目前，寺院约有四万多名信徒。

Origins

In order to enjoy happiness in this life, one must have accumulated a store of mundane merits in the past.

In order to attain Perfect Enlightenment, one needs to accumulate both mundane and super-mundane merits.

In the Mahayana Tradition, the cultivation of Perfect Wisdom and Great Compassion forms the two wheels of the Vehicle, which propels one forward on the spiritual path, helping sentient beings to accumulate extensive merits and ultimately achieve Perfect Buddhahood.

The Venerable Shi Fazhao is greatly concern about the suffering of sentient beings. In order to help sentient beings to become free from all trials and tribulations, he promote the practice of the Medicine Buddha. This is because through invoking the power of the Medicine Buddha, sentient beings can become free from all forms of obstacles and disasters, enjoy a happy and fulfilling life, and progress swiftly on the spiritual path all the way until Perfect Enlightenment. Due to the blessings of the Triple Gems, a suitable piece of land for a new temple dedicated to the Medicine Buddha was acquired in 1989.

The new temple was named Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple. Construction work on the new temple began in 1990 and was completed in early 1992. In the same year, it became a registered society under the Registrar of Societies. Subsequently in 1995, it was registered as a charitable organization. Currently Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple has 40,000 devotees.

In 1988, the temple established its Sukhavati Chanting Group, which brings together both members of the Sangha and lay devotees to propagate the Pureland Practice. Based on the Buddhist ideals of Lovingkindness, Compassion, Joy and Equanimity, the group strives to encourage people to engage in virtuous actions; and cultivate merit and wisdom. It emphasizes the methods of generating faith in Amitabha Buddha;

1996年年年创办“琉璃坊”佛化生活杂志，2002年推出 革新版，是一本以双语弘扬佛法的全彩双月刊。本刊旨在 以佛法中善念即利益大众，将佛法理念与社会结合，以现 代的角度阐述，善念即仁爱，而恶念不过是欲望，佛法能 调节生活极端压抑与欲望。鼓励现代都市人秉持信心，付 出爱心，只要有心就不难安顿人心，让我们社会拥有更多 的温馨感。目前，本刊杂志印刷1万5000本在全岛各处流 通，并以免费赠阅的方式利益更多群众，是现代都市人所 喜爱的一份福智资粮。

cultivating an aspiration to be reborn in the Amitabha Pureland; and the practice of reciting the name of Amitabha Buddha. So that when the time of death arrives, the practitioner is able to depart from this life happily and peacefully; and attain a rebirth in the Amitabha Pureland, to further his spiritual practice and development there under the guidance of Amitabha Buddha. Members of the Recitation group also actively participate in various community and charitable projects, as the experience of community welfare work serves as a skillful way to develop loving kindness and compassion and pacify the mind. There are currently more than 600 members in the Sukhavati Chanting Group.

Vaidurya Magazine, a Buddhist Lifestyle publication was established in 1996 and was subsequently revamped in 2002, as a bilingual colour bi-monthly magazine. The magazine aims to share with the community the positive life affirming ideals and philosophy of Buddhism, uniting Buddhist wisdom with the realities of the world. Using modern perspectives and language, the magazine aims to showcase how loving actions and thought brings about goodness in the world, while negative thoughts are manifestations of human craving and greed. The Buddhadharma helps us to strike a balance between extreme repression and greed. It provides illuminating inspiration for modern city dwellers to believe in the power of a loving heart. By offering kindness to others, we create peace in ourselves and to everyone around us. 15,000 copies of the magazine was distributed free of charge, in various locations island-wide in order to achieve maximum reach to benefit people. It was wellloved by readers for the wisdom and guidance that it provides for enlightened livings.

Publication of the magazine has been temporarily halted.

To emulate the Medicine Buddha’s example in benefiting people, helping them to traverse the path of life from bewilderment to Enlightenment, using the 12 Great Vows of the Medicine Buddha as a guideline. Benefiting others is benefiting ourselves.

Mission: To propagate the Teachings of the Buddha and help people uncover their innate goodness through discipline, unity and goodwill, as well as mutual love and cooperation. Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple disciples should also make it their responsibility to observe morality and family values.

Goals:

To promote the Teachings of the Buddha and help people develop wisdom and compassion within their hearts.

Create kind-hearted and caring individuals through promoting social welfare endeavors and education.

Support other charitable and voluntary welfare organizations, so as to facilitate peace and harmony within our multi-racial, multi-religious society.

To give assistance and care for the sick, poor and needy. Helping each other is a way for us to express our innate compassion.

莲花：主表药师法门功德殊胜，为安隐利乐众生之宝筏。 佛塔：主表供养佛陀舍利，思慕如来的众德，即如法身所在。 光线：主表药师佛，琉璃光遍照慈济有情，喜舍平等所求愿满。 红色：主表威权宏伟之势，愤怒镇慑之威，善静热烈之情。 金色：主表慈悲光明，福智庄严，兴旺和盛，功德圆满。

The Emblem of the Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple Lotus:

Represents the profound qualities of the Medicine Buddha Practice, which is an amazingly skillful method for sentient beings to achieve peace and happiness.

Stupa:

A symbol of the Medicine Buddha’s Dharmakaya Body, abiding in whichever place it appears.

Whenever a person makes offerings to a stupa, it is equivalent to making offerings to the Medicine Buddha’s Relics and remembering his Enlightened qualities.

Light Rays: Symbolizes Medicine Buddha and his compassionate Lapis Lazuli Light which shines upon all sentient beings to free them from all fear and suffering and fulfil all their wishes without any discrimination.

Red Colour: Symbolizes Authority, Power and Passion.

Gold Colour: Symbolizes loving-kindness, compassion, wisdom, merit, prosperity and the achievement of Perfect Enlightenment.
