REMEMBER: All MMM Mustangs will require additional training as they are green started and not to be considered finished.
Many of this year’s mustangs hail from the PiceanceEast Douglas Creek Herd Management Area (PEDHMA) near Meeker, Colorado!
Kanga is a dark Bay who tries so hard to please everyone that he is around. This Mustang is the friendliest horse that I have ever met. He will always come up to you for pets and snuggles, but when you ask him to go to work he sets his mind to it and always tries really hard. I know that anyone who ends up buying him will be so pleased by his kind spirit and willingness to learn quickly.

Introducing Sundance, a yearling dun Mustang, with a distinctive dorsal stripe that adds to his allure. Sunny exudes curiosity, always eager to explore and learn. His trusting nature makes him quick to follow your lead. Sunny is the sweetest Mustang with such a big heart and a good attitude all the time! With every step Sundance proves that he will make a loyal companion ready to embark on new adventures!
Henry is from the Cedar Mountain herd in Utah and is such a cool horse. He’s one of the smartest horses I’ve ever known. His intelligence can make him a little bit more of a challenge, because he’s so much of a thinker. It’s taken me a long time to gain his trust, but now that I have it, he’s turning into a great partner. Some of his favorite things to do are go for rides in the trailer and lick me. Seriously, he loves to lick my boots and pants. He’s never offered to bite me, but he loves to lick and chew on my clothes and hair. It tickles so much because he breathes on me when he does it. He’s very curious about new things, but it can take him time to come over and check it out. I am so glad I picked him! Henry is such a great horse with a wonderful mind. He has taught me so much about both training horses and myself. One of the biggest things he’s taught me is that slow is smooth and smooth is fast. I love him so much and can’t wait to see how he matures. He is also part of my 4-H horse project this year. I am showing him at the Routt County Fair a week before the Makeover. He is signed up for both showmanship and a yearling halter class. I think this experience will help him to feel more comfortable at the Meeker Mustang Makeover. See you at the Makeover!

Moose is an incredibly quick learner and such a sweetheart. At first, he was unsure of everything I threw at him, but now he looks to me for guidance and will do anything I ask of him! He loads, stands tied, stands for farrier, picks up all four feet, goes through multiple obstacles, has been ponied, lives right next to a road with huge/loud trucks flying by him daily, bathes great, and has such a kind soul. And if you’re looking for a promising, willing, and tall horse, Moose is your mustang.

Dino is a bay mustang yearling gelding standing approximately 13.2hh. Since day 1 he’s been a very easy guy to work with. He has a willing attitude and is a fast learner. He has a very good foundation, and has learned basically everything you can do with a yearling. I’ve done all the necessary groundwork with him such as lunging, lateral flexing, side passing, ground tying, etc. He loads right up in both a 2 horse and 4 horse trailer, and backs out with just a click. He’ll stand tied patiently for hours, and ground ties even in a grassy field while keeping his head up and staying focused. He’s been hauled on several occasions, and has been exposed to a number of things such as gunshots, traffic, wildlife, unfamiliar people, and much more. He’s done a number of different obstacles, and has been desensitized to the most random objects. I’ve ponied him all around my neighborhood and all throughout Cherry Creek. He crosses water and has no problem with anything I’ve asked of him so far. He stands quietly for the farrier, and overall has excellent ground manners. He’s learned how to bow, and will know some other tricks here shortly. He saddles phenomenally and has never been cinchy or reactive with it. This is a very nice colt, with an excellent mind and phenomenal build.

Dojo has been easy from the start! He is very willing and loving to everyone. He loves kids and loves to work and show off his skills. I can’t wait to show off the horse I hope to continue to train in the future and in the present.

Baby has been a true joy to work with, he is a sweet, wonderful, spirited yearling. Ever since I first met him he has been willing to learn. During training sessions I am always pleasantly surprised by how smart he is. Anything I throw at him he absorbs. He is fiery and would suit someone who is willing to work with his spirit and grow with him. Along with that he is incredibly loving, he enjoys being around people no matter the situation and will never say no to cuddles.

Rune is the most curious horse I have ever met! He can be shy at first, but once you gain his trust he will let you do just about anything with him. He is easy to catch, he leads well, backsup like a dream, and is very responsive once he knows what you are asking of him. His confidence runs low, but everyday he gains a little more. Rune still has a lot of learning and growing to do! With time and patience he will make an excellent horse.

Johnny Playboy is a 3 year old chestnut gelding from Robert’s Mountain HMA. Johnny is a very driven horse, he loves having a job and is always looking for the next right answer. He has a gentle soul, but looks for a leader in his trainer/ handler. Johnny also likes to show off with his fancy movements and self carriage. At this point in Johnny’s life he would be best suited for a home that has a job or has a consistent work environment. He has great potential to be very successful in jumping or western dressage world.

LOT 12 CHAD
At first Oscar had the usual trepidation of an unhandled horse but once he figured out the plan it has been all positive. He is very smooth and forward at all gaits. He is a quick study. It is hard to believe just a few months ago he was untouchable. He is a cute little guy and he will make a great partner.

Chad is a lightly dappled buckskin, coming in at 15.1 hands at just 3 years old. He’s an extremely smart and kind horse and doesn’t take long to understand new concepts. As of July he has had a front set of shoes put on. He currently is on the slower paced side when under saddle and doesn’t have too much go. I believe he could truly go in any direction discipline wise, and with his large floaty trot he could make an excellent dressage partner.

Hoolihan has an incredibly gentle and willing disposition. He has taken to human life with ease and enjoys being included in all our activities. Hoolihan is easy to catch, shoe, and trailer. He stands tied and is also hobble broke. He’s solid and smooth at all three gaits. Hooli is the same horse in and out of the arena and enjoys trail riding. He’s helped gather cattle in the rugged mountains of Wyoming where he crossed water, traveled through dense brush, and stood up to hard miles. You can also rope off of him, drag tires and logs, and open gates off of him. Hoolihan is best suited for an intermediate rider, and will easily make a beginner friendly horse with more time and experience!

LOT 14 T-REX
Hoot is smart, strong and very engaged in his work. He loads, ties, hobbles, picks up his feet, packs and ponies out. Hoot can still be nervous about movement and touch behind his shoulder unless it is slow and predictable. He is an athletic, sure-footed horse and confident about his surroundings. I believe that as he continues to gain trust this boy will be an amazing partner out on the ranch, in the mountains or in the arena as a 4H or low-level dressage/event horse.

T-Rex is a handsome 3-year-old from the Robert’s Mountain HMA. He currently stands 15h and is growing like a weed. Rex would excel in many disciplines in both English and Western. He spent summer trail riding all over Colorado, getting a solid western based foundation and being exposed to all sorts of new things. Rex self-loads in the trailer, stands ground tied all day, bathes, stands for farrier, has been ridden by children and takes all the shenanigans his trainer has thrown at him with ease. He is as close to bombproof as a 3-year-old horse can be and has never taken a misstep with a rider. Rex is traffic safe, has been ridden in a parade, participated in gymkhanas and has had a rope swung from him. Under saddle Rex is calm and confident, stops off seat, opens gates and yields to leg pressure. He would be well suited for an intermediate rider looking for a first mustang or someone wanting to further train and compete in a specific discipline. Color, size and brains are hard to find, and Rex truly is the WHOLE package. Someone will be getting a once in a lifetime horse.

Rooster is a sweet three-year-old red dun Mustang. He has a great mind, taking things slower but always achieving great things. He loves to smell you; that is his way to get to know you and reassure him. He is going to make a great horse with daily interaction. He has been around obstacles that challenge him to think and get through all scenarios. He has been ridden down county roads, in the arena and fields. Rooster is working to stay soft throughout his entire body. He is hobble trained and does great with other horses. He will be an in-your-pocket type of horse once he trusts you. Rooster also loves to relax, but he will require someone more experienced with horses because he is still sensitive and requires daily training. Once you get him there, Rooster will make a great riding horse. #1891 | 3 Year Old Dun

Goodr is taking it all in stride. He is an easy going horse, looking for the human. GoodR gets along with everyone, he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He has the potential to make a super solid ranch horse or a great all around horse. If you like bathing your horse and putting on sunscreen, he’s your guy!
marnymbelt@gmail.com
Pearl Snap is an amazing combination of brains and beauty. He’s really maturing mentally and physically, and has been a pleasure to start. Currently he stands at 15 hands as a 3 year old, with more room to grow. Pearl Snap is just as genuine as they come. He is really looking to be your friend and to get along. You won’t find a horse with smoother gaits, he’s like riding on a cloud. His transitions from walk/trot/lope are effortless, and he naturally displays Western Pleasure type qualities. Wanna trail ride? He’s your guy!! Wanna go move cows in rough country? No problem!! Wanna participate in a horse show, he’ll definitely get you noticed! Easy to catch. A breeze to load/unload. He stands tied perfectly. Gets along great with everyone. Perfect for the farrier. He’s the PERFECT gentleman.

This year’s Makeover features trainers of all ages! Get to know the new and familiar faces at this year’s exciting competition!
Interested in contacting a specific trainer? Contact info is listed with each mustang!
My name is Addie and I am 16 years old and live in Brighton, CO. I have been riding close to 9 years, and have been in 4-H for 3! In 2020, I was Online Horse Agility Junior World Champion, I have also performed at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo and competed at National Western Stock Show, I am Vice President in my 4-H club, and am part of the junior superintendents for my club. Last year I competed in this challenge with my last yearling and enjoyed it so much I wanted to try again!!
I fell in love with mustangs when I got my first one who is Alastor who I event with. I think they are the coolest horses and just amazing. I spend most of my time working with horses. I mainly do eventing (cross country, dressage, and showjumping) but I am always open to trying new things with my horses. I choose to do this for two reason 1. Because I love mustangs and 2. There are so many mustangs in holding. People say that “Saving one horse doesn’t change the world,” but it sure does change the world for the one horse! That’s what I wanted to do for my mustangs!
My name is Lily Hair, and I have been working with and riding horses since I was six years old. I love mustangs and understand the importance of raising awareness for the struggles their breed currently faces. I will learn throughout this process with help from my mentor Alecz Adams, who has been training all types of horses for many years. I believe it is incredibly important to create a strong emotional bond between a human and the horse they’re working with. The training techniques that I have focused on the most are under the umbrella of Natural Horsemanship. Specifically, trust work, liberty, equi-linguistics and groundwork. I favor these methods because I have seen how well horses respond to being listened to and respected. A foundation of trust on the ground between horse and rider leads to a partnership that can thrive in almost anything.
My name is Raven Himes from Denver, CO. have been around horses for as long as I can remember and it pushed me to enter the makeover this year. Sundance is my yearling for the MMM. I have loved mustangs for forever, owning two is what helped me in this competition because it taught me how to connect with them. I chose to do this for many reasons, but the main being able to start a horse and help them to find a good family, to bring them farther in life.
My name is Kinsey Huckabay and I am a 15 year old from Aurora, Colorado. I have always had a passion for training and working with horses. Since I was a little girl, my family has owned a horse rescue, giving me the privilege of working with a variety of different horses over the years. Some with no issues and some with lots of issues. I lean towards natural horsemanship techniques like those of Clinton Anderson and Pat Parelli. I am extremely patient and work hard to earn a horse’s trust. I am excited to work with a yearling mustang and to give him a very solid foundation.
My name is Magnolia Marchand and I am from Carbondale, Colorado. I moved to Carbondale when I was eight years old and that is where my love for horses began. I started off doing Western and then moved on to show jumping a few years ago at a beautiful ranch named Strang Ranch where I have ongoing support from my trainers and have had the great opportunity to be a working student. I heard about The Meeker Mustang Makeover at my ranch, and this is the first time that I have ever had the opportunity to train a mustang. I have found it to be the most amazing experience because I have gotten to start from scratch and see how all of the well-trained horses that I have ridden started off. Thank you MMM for this experience and opportunity.
My name is Camryn Mulkey. I’m 17 years old and have been working with horses for over 7 years now. I won Junior and Northern World Championship for horse agility in 2021. I had the opportunity to join my drill team at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in 2020 and 2022. Overall I’m very excited to show and improve my training skills with the mustangs!
Charlee Trout is a 14 year old from Phippsburg, CO. She has been in love with horses from the first time her mom put her on one as a toddler. She aspires to be a professional horse trainer when she’s grown and is planning to attend Montana State Western majoring in their natural horsemanship program. Charlee believes in building a partnership with her horses. That true horsemanship is built on mutual respect and trust between the human and the horse. She is active in 4-H showing horses and is the president of her 4-H club. As a homeschooler, Charlee loves all the extra time she gets to spend riding, training, and just being with her horses. Charlee is excited for this new partnership and is looking forward to learning everything she can about her new mustang.
Hi, my name is Maya. I’m 17 years old and have loved horses ever since I can remember. To me, it’s a privilege that a horse will allow me on its back. It’s a partnership, and I think that’s what’s beautiful about these mustangs. The process with a wild horse is remarkable, and it’s beautiful to see how they begin to trust. I’m so thankful to have this opportunity. I wouldn’t be here doing what I love if it weren’t for my parents, or the mentors who’ve helped me along the way.
Originally from Utah, an early encounter with family friends horses opened the door to which Marny’s life set course. At 14, she got her first job helping start welsh ponies, where the interest and idea of horsemanship took root. In 2019, Marny received A Legacy of Legends Scholarship with mentor Mindy Bower, and in 2021 moved to the Uh Oh Ranch in Simla CO to study with Mindy full-time.
My name is Angelina Bouzarelos, I am a 17 year old from Centennial, Colorado and have been riding for as long as I can remember, an obsession gifted by my mom. My experiences range a variety of disciplines including endurance, eventing, dressage, colt starting, and mounted games. Currently, I am a student under the one and only Mindy Bower of the Uh Oh Ranch. Mindy Bower and Marny Belt have been prominent mentors in my riding career. I am forever grateful for their patience and talents in passing down their knowledge. Through their mentorship I am studying the techniques of Buck Brannaman, Ray Hunt, and Tom Dorannce. In 2023 I competed in the Meeker Mustang Makeover in the youth in hand division with my yearling mustang Kermit. I was very fortunate to buy Kermit back after the competition. This provided me the opportunity to further develop our relationship together. Working with these horses is an experience like no other. Mustangs are a truly remarkable breed that have much to teach in the skills of horsemanship and in the ways of life.
My name is Brittany Clawson. I live in Cody, WY, with two Mustangs, twoquarter horses, and two dogs. Horses have been a dream of mine since I was a young girl. My first word was “horse”. When I was 11, my uncle got me my first horse. Since I was little, I read horse books and took a lot of horse lessons. Horses have been my biggest passion. I have had some incredible experiences working, showing, and training horses throughout the years. Most of my riding time is spent enjoying the Wyoming Rocky Mountains Range. Mustangs have opened a whole new world for me.
Sydnee Julian is a 24yr old, from Nunn, CO, who runs Sydnee Julian Horsemanship, LLC. Sydnee is a graduate and alumni of CSU’s Equine Science program and participated in their Legends of Ranching program. Her past background has been in dressage and endurance riding. She competed in the 2023 Meeker Mustang Makeover and has applied to compete again for the 2024 year. She is most interested in colt starting and ranch horse versatility events, with a strong emphasis on horsemanship. Sydnee also works for USRider, one of the largest nationwide equestrian motor plans.
Grace McSweeney ~ Meeker, CO
Grace is a 22yr old, recently from California, where she served in the Army since 2018. She has always been interested in horses, learning to ride bareback first before taking formal lessons. Grace rides both Western and English, especially enjoying jumping and dressage. She believes the wellness of the horse comes first and training should consist of a mutual respect between horse and rider. She has ridden in clinics with Olympic riders and lessoned under an event rider. Grace has been competitive both on the show circuit as well as the local county fair here in Rio Blanco County. Grace believes in seeing all sides of the horse training world and exploring all branches of training, from positive reinforcement to natural horsemanship. She is a returning competitor this year.
Eric Pflueger ~ Nunn, CO
I grew up on a 6000 head cattle feedlot where we used our horses daily. At an early age I realized the importance of having a partnership with my horses. As s kid I did everything with my horses, including riding them to school! In my youth I always dreamed of having a Mustang. For the last 25 years I’ve worked at looking for new and better ways to deepen my understanding of these Mustangs. My first MMM was in 2022 where my horse, Doreen and I were honored to be Grand Champions. I’ll always be grateful to the Mustang because of how far they have advanced my horsemanship. Every one of them teaches me new things and helps refine my skills.
Clara Phillips ~ Nunn, CO
My name is Clara Phillips. I was born and raised on a cattle ranch in southern Colorado. I have been around horses my whole life and have always wanted to pursue a career in the horse world. I trained my first horse when I was 11 and 14 when I found my love for mustangs. I have continued to train and compete on mustangs as my experience and knowledge have increased. I love showing up and proving to the world how amazing and talented mustangs can be. I have looked up to many trainers my whole life and have had the great opportunity to ride and listen to some of the best. I believe that you never stop learning and that each horse teaches you something important. My only goal is to do right by any horse and give them the greatest opportunity to excel in life.
Johna Pink is a 26 year old from Colorado Springs. She has been riding horses since she was young, and despite not coming from a “horse family” has made horses a large part of her life. When she isn’t riding, Johna works as an RBT with autistic children and enjoys spending time with her 5 year old son, Hudson. Johna won Overall Champion at the 2023 Montrose Wild To Mild TIP Challenge last year with her mustang, Monarch whom she kept and still enjoys riding. The Meeker Mustang Makeover is Johna’s second time taking a mustang from completely unhandled, and her first undersaddle event. Johna is very excited to Challenge herself with undersaddle training and cannot wait to show off her horse, Rex.
Liza Wilkinson is a 28 year old from Clark, CO. Following 2 years of training mustangs for a packing program out of WY, she is excited to be competing in her first mustang makeover this year! Liza has been a lifelong horse lover with most of her experience being in the disciplines of dressage and eventing. In recent years her focus has shifted more to colt starting- she has started horses under saddle for the racetrack, the show pen and the ranch, with the goal always being a willing happy partnership.
Branden Edwards (Grand Junction, CO) graduated from Colorado Mesa University in 2008 and moved to Seattle, WA to pursue a vocal music career. Steve Mantle (Mantle Ranch, Wheatland, Wyoming) is a Meeker native and a contract wild horse trainer for the BLM with over 26 years of professional experience.
Bridget Strang (The Strang Ranch, Carbondale, CO) has been on a farm and around horses her whole life, and enjoys developing young horses as well as young riders and adults
Kristin Jacob (Blue Star Farms, Berthoud, CO) rides and trains show jumping horses through Grand Prix. She takes great influence in working with horses in the Vaquero/Buckaroo traditions.
