A Toast to Remember: Champagne has been a staple of celebrations since the 1600s. And there’s no better way to display the bubbly than the classic Champagne tower. But, it takes some planning and preparation to pull it off.
Sister Act: Carrie Boatright and Kendall Tharpe have shared a lot of things in life. The sisters even were married at the same venue, but their creative wedding planner Wick Nalley curated individual designs for each bride.
Wedding Rewind: Budgets can be tight when in the planning process, and one of the things many couples debate over is videography. Sam Ghioto argues that it’s something that couples won’t regret investing in later on.
This year’s bridal shoot, Pastel Perfection, was set at the historic Crane Cottage on Jekyll Island. Our stunning model, Mary Kate Hendley, was styled in feminine pastel makeup and carried similar colors in her bouquet.

ABOUT THE COVER
The stunning Mary Kate Hendley stands amid blooming azaleas near Crane Cottage on Jekyll Island. She’s wearing a gown from Southern Posh Couture in Baxley and is carrying a bouquet by Edward’s on St. Simons. Her jewelry is from Cunningham’s Jewelers in Brunswick. She was photographed by John Krivec.
Back to the Beginning
In the history of perfect days, this year’s Bride shoot would have been near the top. It was March 18. The sky was cloudless and blue, with a gentle breeze. I believe temperatures topped out at about 74 degrees. You just couldn’t have asked for more.
I remember another day that was similar — though a bit warmer. That was my own wedding day, Oct. 20, 2007. And it was fresh on my mind during our shoot this year because we shot our styled shoot in the Jekyll Island Historic District, where Josh and I exchanged vows more than 18 years ago (a truly mindboggling fact). We were married on the riverfront lawn of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, and had our reception in its fabulous ballroom.
We didn’t do our shoot there, though. For 2026’s Bride, we set up in the stunning Crane Cottage. It truly is one of the most beautiful venues in the Golden Isles. The Italian Renaissance-style home was built in 1917 for Richard Teller Crane Jr., a plumbing magnate. The mansion, which now functions as a hotel, features a renowned sunken garden, courtyard, and loggias. On the spring morning of our shoot, the azaleas were popping, and the scent of jasmine danced through the air.
And into this perfect moment stepped our dreamy model, Mary Kate Hendley. She may seem familiar because we actually featured her own wedding in 2024’s Bride. She married Scott Hendley (of K-9 Corner fame). Mary Kate was a gorgeous bride, and she was equally as beautiful for our shoot.
As always, I was grateful to have the excellent team help accentuate her natural beauty. We tapped Gerald Dampier
(AKA Glam King) for her makeup. Our gal, Alicia Brooks of The Hair Cottage handled her hair.
John Krivec was back (for the seventh consecutive year) to photograph it. The talented Rhonda Rowell styled and photographed our flatlays with some help from Copper Row Studio, which provided the beautiful invitation for the staging.
We also welcomed our frequent freelancer, Michelle Holton of Holton Media, who gave us a hand and photographed some behind-the-scenes fun for us.
The lovely gowns were provided by Southern Posh Couture Bridal in Baxley. And the bling came from our fantastic friends at Chadwick’s, Cunningham, and Joseph Jewelers.
Our florals — pastel perfection — was created by the brilliant folks over at Edward on St. Simons. They never miss, y’all.
And, last but not least, the Jekyll Island Resort management and events team, who truly rolled out the red carpet for us.
Every year, I marvel at the kindness, talents, and professionalism of the people who bring our Bride issue to life. Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank all the lovely couples who share their stories with us. I hope they all have the very best happily ever afters. I hope the same for you, dear readers. And I hope you enjoy this iteration of Bride.
With all my love — Lindsey

Champagne. It’s the classic beverage that has graced tables of countless celebrations since the 1600s. While the bubbly brings plenty of pizazz to parties and events alike, there’s always a way to up the ante.
Enter the Champagne tower. The pyramid of glasses originated in 18th-century France and gained particular popularity during the 1920s and 1930s.
That Gatsby-era glitz and glam was certainly on the minds of Whitney Johnson and Jason Allbritton when they were planning their Sea Island ceremony.
The two married on April 3, 2025, at the Cloister Chapel with a reception following at the romantic Cloister Wine Cellar.
“We are SSI locals. It was the perfect venue for an Italian elopement dream re-imagined,” Whitney explains. “We wanted a celebration that was both lost in time and entirely in the moment. The tower was a must because it’s a classic element with a dash of Gatsby charm.”
Traditionally, coupe glasses are used. They’re preferred because of their wide rims, which allow the Champagne to overflow and cascade from tier to tier. Of course, it takes some skill to make it happen. The Johnsons had help from the pros at Sea Island. But Whitney also picked up some tips.
“Have backup bottles nearby for that true cascade,” she says. “Also, throw in a cherry or two for a signature touch.”
Champagne towers have always been popular and they certainly make an appearance in Emily Burton’s weddings. The local wedding and event planner says they can add a lot to a reception.
“Champagne towers are great because not only are they there to serve your guests, but they create a timeless statement piece,” she says.
It’s also something that offers a great memory to capture.
“Champagne towers are a fun photo-op, creating an elegant background for your cocktail hour too,” Burton says. “The extra plus about Champagne towers is that they can help keep your bar lines down while setting the tone for your event.”
While there are standard setups for towers, there’s always a way for couples to put their own stamp on the classic design.
“You can get creative with champagne towers also, like recently we added pink bows to all of the stems and it modernized the timeless traditions a bit,” she says.

Carrie Boatright and Kendall Tharpe have a lot in common. They both got married in the spring of 2025. They both married at Forbes Farms on St. Simons Island.
And until then, they also shared a last name.
The Copelan girls grew up on St. Simons Island. And when they found their future husbands, they both had a vision of what they wanted.
Carrie got engaged to Jacob on March 1, 2024, and married on May 31, 2025. Kendall was proposed to by her beau, Alexander, on March 24, 2024, and married on April 26th, 2025.
Once the planning process was underway, they both tapped into similar visions. That included bringing in Wick Nalley of Wicnic Designs & Events to make their dreams come true.
“My sister and I were both following Wick and his business Wicnic on social media before we were ever engaged,” Carrie says. “We loved his style and his sense of design, and knew that he was the perfect person to help bring each of our visions to life.”
In addition to Nalley, they also recruited Claire Simmons as their wedding planner. Together, they felt that their teams would be able to create two unique celebrations for each of them.
“When my sister and I both booked Forbes Farm for our wedding receptions, we knew we could ultimately make the space look different for each wedding,” Carrie says.
“Wick, Claire Simmons (our wedding planner), Kendall, and I were very intentional when picking layouts, linens, florals, rental pieces, etc., in order to make Forbes represent each of us on our day.”
Nalley’s company offers a variety of in-house services that cover various elements for each ceremony.
“We are a full-service design firm specializing in elevated event design, curated rentals, in-house floral artistry, and refined styling that’s anything but ordinary,” he says.
And while he knew the Copelan sisters for years, Nalley and his team were focused on making each one’s event entirely unique.
“From contrasting color palettes and standout statement pieces to entirely different floor plans and lounge groupings, each sister had a wedding that was a true reflection of her personal style. Both were stunning in their own way — beautifully distinct, yet equally unforgettable,” he says.
“Both shared one key floral: hydrangeas — a classic bloom we used as a unifying thread in completely different ways. For one sister, we created a 24-foot draped head table overflowing with lush hydrangeas, making a show-stopping statement at the heart of the reception. For the other, we designed an elevated banquet centerpiece that bloomed upward, adding height and softness to the architectural beauty of the venue.”
Nalley feels that executing a perfect celebration comes down to one thing — authenticity.
“My biggest advice is to lean into what feels true to you. It’s easy to be influenced by what others are doing — especially if friends or family are planning weddings around the same time — but the most memorable events are the ones that feel authentic and personal,” he says.
“The key is to focus on your story, your style, and what feels most exciting to you. Don’t feel pressure to follow trends or mirror someone else’s wedding. Trust your instincts and your creative team to help shape a vision that feels intentional, elevated, and entirely you.”

Ioften hear one of the biggest wedding day regrets of newlyweds is not booking a videographer … By the end of budgeting and purchasing everything – the venue, the photographer, florals, coordinator, food, cake, and so on – videography is generally the lowest on the totem pole for many couples. In fact, many couples who book my services come to me within a few weeks of getting married. Often, the bride or groom’s mom convinces the couple to hire a videographer. Even though many couples express that they would love a wedding film, not having one comes down to a lack of priority in the budget. Of course, as a professional wedding videographer, I advocate for having a wedding film.
Pictures are a must. You can’t not have a venue. The decorations are so important. Forget not having a coordinator. I’m not saying to get rid of anything. I’m saying that a wedding film serves a distinct and essential purpose that you should consider: the ability to relive the emotions of your once-in-a-lifetime experience whenever you choose. Maybe on your 35th anniversary, you want to rewatch your choreographed first dance, the groom’s tears as you walked down the aisle as he sees you in your fabulous dress for the first time, or the rapturous applause as you enter the reception and see all your people together. Maybe your children, after you’re long and gone, want to experience the magic of the love between you and your significant other.
It’s these incredible moments that inspired me to become a professional wedding videographer.
Your wedding day is a whirlwind and is gone in an instant. Unless someone films those toasts and speeches or vows on their phone, only memories remain, and over time, those memories fade and warp. Our memories aren’t exactly perfect, and it’s easy to forget. Pictures allow you to view these moments and feel the emotion. With the right videographer, however, a wedding film takes the key moments from your wedding day and organizes them into thematic moving sequences that build upon each other, like the intense anticipation of waiting for your ceremony. It’s like listening to an amazing piece of music that pulls the heartstrings. You feel the butterflies dancing and a melting pressure in your chest. That’s the hallmark of what’s amazing about film – the emotions moving images elicit.
I take pride in capturing documentary-style moments, letting the day unfold as it does, having the camera roll on organic, loving moments, and editing in a way that preserves the emotion and feelings in a series of rolling pictures. I’m not here to sell you on my services. I’m here to tell you that your wedding day is the beginning of your love story – a vow for a lifetime of togetherness – that deserves to be remembered and shared for the rest of your life and beyond.

Love Story
Low Country Love
Klyne Weaver and Camden Gregory first met in seventh grade, growing up in the Low Country.
“… in his Aunt’s seventh-grade advanced English class,” Klyne clarifies. “We immediately became great friends and even turned into best friends over the following school years.”
The friendship lasted and grew stronger with each passing year. Things took a romantic turn right before they graduated from high school.
“I know it sounds like questionable timing. We were heading off to different colleges in the fall, and most people probably wouldn’t have taken that leap. But for us, it just felt right,” she remembers. “There was something undeniable between us, and we knew we had to give it a chance. That summer was a whirlwind, in the best way.”
They managed to navigate a long-distance relationship. They made it a point to see one another every three weeks and continue to show up for each other.
“What started as a leap of faith turned into the greatest love story of our lives,” Klyne says.
That roll of the dice became a forever commitment when Camden proposed on May 26, 2023, in Charleston, South Carolina.
They selected the historic King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on St. Simons for their big day. Klyne says they chose a coastal elegance vibe with simple yet meaningful touches, including a nod to her favorite movie.
“My ambition was to make it resemble the waterfront hotel from ‘The Parent Trap,’ as it is my favorite movie. To do so, I chose simple flower arrangements, with minimal colors, as we wanted the ocean view to be the highlight of the event,” she recalls.
To further enhance the ambiance, the couple featured a jazz trio playing during our cocktail hour and a live wedding portrait artist.
For Klyne and Camden, the path to the altar, sparked so long ago, came full circle on that special day.

“Our wedding day was absolutely stunning and surreal. It was more than we could have ever imagined. We were completely showered with love, not just from each other, but from all of our closest friends and family,” she says.
“Being surrounded by the people who supported us from the very beginning made the day feel even more meaningful. It was a beautiful demonstration of how far we had come and the incredible future ahead.”

Love Story
There’s no more appropriate place for a Southern love story to begin than at a football tailgate. That’s precisely where Mary Benfield met Jack Henderson.
“We first met at a Georgia/Georgia Tech tailgate in the fall of 2017, our junior year of college,” Mary says. “Funny enough, Jack’s roommate was dating my roommate, and we somehow had never crossed paths until that day. We were both living in Athens at the time.”
It was a fortuitous turn of events, and the two started dating, even enduring long distance during their internships.
“I knew Jack was the one when we ended up calling each other every night while we were apart in different states. Eventually, I went up to visit him in Nantucket, and we started officially dating shortly after,” she says. “Jack claims he knew I was the one from the first day we met.”
That proved to be true. The two got engaged on May 10, 2024, at Ray’s on the River, a waterfront restaurant in Atlanta. And exactly one year later, they would marry at the Jekyll Island Club Resort on Jekyll Island.
“I have always been a beach lover at heart, so I knew I wanted a coastal vibe that was relaxed, but also elegant. The Jekyll Island Club provided the perfect backdrop for a wedding weekend filled with salt air, sunshine, and the Southern charm that is so naturally ingrained in Jekyll Island’s history,” she says.
Most of their family and guests stayed within the property, so the wedding weekend was filled with happy run-ins and get-togethers.
“We kicked off the weekend with the Rehearsal Dinner and Welcome Party on Friday night, both hosted at the Indian Mound Cottage,” she says.

“The sound of bagpipes by Tim Akins and the view of the sunset over the marsh seamlessly signaled the transition from the dinner to the party, and warmly welcomed guests into the weekend.”
On the day of their nuptials, though, they were greeted by an uninvited guest — rain. And while the forecast showed showers all day, a little bit of magic arrived just in time.
“ … as wedding time rolled around, the skies cleared and granted the opportunity for a sunny, outdoor ceremony in the Morgan Center Garden, just as planned,” Mary says.
Looking back on their big day, there’s nothing they would change. And, as Mary notes, it’s just the beginning.
“Marrying Jack was a dream come true, and something I had been waiting for for a long, long time,” she says. “He is my best friend and my biggest supporter, and we were so excited to finally be able to begin our next chapter as the Hendersons.”

Olivia-Lane Lambert vividly remembers when she first set her heart on her wedding venue. She was just a little girl, visiting Sea Island with her family, when she saw a ceremony.
“… I looked over and told my dad that I wanted to get married here too,” she says.
And it wasn’t long before she met the boy she’d meet at the altar on that special day. Olivia-Lane met Davison Reynolds in their middle school youth group at church in 2014, while growing up in Dalton.
“We dated all through high school and college,” Davison says.
It was over Thanksgiving, in November of 2023, that the two decided that this love was forever.
“We were on our way to a Thanksgiving dinner at the Farm Golf Course. On our way to the clubhouse, he pulled over on one of the holes, and we got out of the car,” Olivia-Lane says.
“We walked onto the green because he told me he had left a golf club on the hole earlier that day and needed to look for it. As we were looking, he got down on one knee.”
That meant there was a wedding to plan. And, true to her dream, Olivia-Lane got to bring her Sea Island vision to life.
“… I really wanted the whole day to feel nostalgic and replicate my love for this place. The things I know and love about the island were my biggest inspiration,” she says.
“The marsh, dunes, and a moody, earthy-like spring feel was the overall vision for the wedding. So our wedding planners and the florists created the best combination of moody, delicate, and a timeless Southern marsh design.”
The two also made a point to include special details and personal touches in the celebration. That included a “his” and “her” cocktail hour.
“That detail was so fun and specific to our personality; it brought everything to life. I have a background in fashion, and I had a sketch artist draw the guests, and my husband loves cigars, and we had hand-rolled cigars at a cigar bar for him,” Olivia-Lane says.
Their officiant also asked the couple to pick a Bible verse that came to mind when they think about each other.
“We both didn’t know what the other picked or said, and so hearing that during the ceremony was so special as well, which was our favorite,” Davison says.
Now, settled into newlywed life, the couple has been able to reflect and share some advice for those planning their own nuptials.

“Plan a longer engagement. Giving yourself extra time to sit and enjoy the season,” Olivia-Lane says.
“Don’t leave each other’s side on the wedding day (after the ceremony). There isn’t a lot of time on the wedding day when it is just the two of you. It can be so overwhelming in the best way, and having your person with you always is the best comfort and eases any emotions,” Davison adds.

Love Story
Stacy Jessen and Patrick Abraham didn’t have an easy road to the altar. After meeting on a dating app in 2020, the two faced numerous challenges.
“Our four years together before getting engaged were filled with a multitude of challenges … COVID, learning how to navigate living with Patrick’s teenagers, the death of three of my fur babies over the course of three years,” Stacy lists.
These types of obstacles might have driven other couples apart, but they only brought these two closer together.
“The compounding events (good and challenging) through our relationship were when we knew that the other was ‘the one.’ Neither of us could imagine doing life without the other,” Stacy says.
The two met in Charleston, South Carolina, and got engaged on July 4, 2024. They decided to exchange vows on another special day — Stacy’s 40th birthday, October 19. The couple selected The Park on St. Simons Island. And, since they were marrying in October, they embraced the spooky season.
“Our wedding theme was “‘Til Death.” A romantic Halloween vibe was perfect for the time of year,” she says.
While the fall is a favorite of couples, there’s always a risk. It’s hurricane season, and the weather can prove temperamental. That was a worry for Patrick and Stacy, but it worked out perfectly.
“We were initially worried the weather wouldn’t cooperate for our outdoor ceremony and reception, but the skies stayed clear all day. It was a perfect day for us. Stressful getting everything ready and perfect, but once the time came for our ceremony, everything went off without a hitch,” she said.

The Park, St. Simons Island
Their day was an intimate one, with only 14 people in attendance. It was precisely what they wanted. And their venue proved ideal.
“My sister and I found The Park a few years before the wedding. We would stay there for vacation. Then, my now brother-in-law moved there from Atlanta. We love St. Simons,” she says.
“It reminds us of the slower pace and quaintness Charleston used to have before it became so crowded with transplants. My in-laws vacationed there for the first time the week before and after our wedding, and they will be returning this fall.”
Looking back on the day, the couple enjoys that they decided to create a truly unique concept.
“It was low-key and luxe at the same time. When we met under our self-made arbor for the ceremony, all the stress and worry fell away. It was effortless to transition into married life,” Stacy says.

EverHappily After
Disney is well known for its classic love stories. But Tess Marshall and Andrew Deneau’s path to their happily ever after began in an unexpected place — on a movie set.
“We met working on the Disney movie, ‘Jungle Cruise.’ We both work in the film industry in Atlanta and are a part of the on-set visual effects department,” Tess says.
At first, they were just good friends, but the relationship turned romantic in 2021.
After two years of dating, Andrew surprised Tess with a weekend trip to the Golden Isles. The two visited Brunswick and toured the St. Simons Lighthouse.
“We ended up at the World War II Homefront Museum towards the end of the day. Right after the museum closed, we went on a gorgeous sunset beach walk. Andrew proposed in a secluded dune overlooking the ocean and then surprised me by bringing our parents and his twin sister and her fiancé to meet up with us right after he popped the question,” she says.
“The last major surprise was a two-night stay at Sea Island after he proposed. It was a perfect weekend.”
The Golden Isles would play a starring role in their wedding, too. Both Andrew and Tess come from up north — northern Michigan for the groom and Maryland for the bride.
“I first came to the Golden Isles in 2020 when my mom and I needed some fresh sea air during the pandemic. We stayed in St. Simons, and we absolutely loved the area,” Tess says. “Andrew’s first trip was our engagement trip. It was easy to choose the Golden Isles as our wedding location.”
The two settled on Jekyll Island’s historic district, selecting the picturesque Cherokee Cottage as the backdrop for their big day.
“We chose the Jekyll Island Club Resort as our venue because we loved the idea of renting a historic cottage for the weekend and having our wedding party stay there,” she says. “The history of the resort, along with how gorgeous the grounds are, made the venue choice very easy for us.”
The pair wanted an intimate ceremony with only 35 guests, including the couple themselves. Tess says it was the perfect spot to bring all of their nearest and dearest.
“We felt like we got quality time with all of our guests in a gorgeous setting, and we were able to fully enjoy the celebration without feeling overwhelmed. We were also able to utilize both outside for the ceremony and inside for dinner and dancing,” she says.
Closing out their fall nuptials, Tess says that she was filled with both joy and a sense of peace.
“I felt such peace and happiness marrying Andrew. I’ve known he was the one for a very long time, and it felt like and still feels like the best and easiest decision I’ve ever made,” she says.

Pastel Perfection

Spring on Jekyll Island is its own special kind of magic. The greenery is lush, the azaleas are bursting, and the temperature is simply divine.
No where is the glow more bright than in the historic district. The pristinely-maintained cottages blend the charm of the South with the might and power of the American Golden Age. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the titans of industry like JP Morgan, William Rockefeller, and William Kissam Vanderbilt who created a winter retreat on the isolated Georgia Island. Known as the Jekyll Island Club, the members constructed a number of “cottages” in addition to the clubhouse itself. Today, these structures have been preserved in time and serve as the backdrop for a number of special occasions, especially weddings.
For our 2026 Bridal shoot, we were fortunate to setup in one of the district’s best-loved locales — Crane Cottage. Constructed in 1917 by Richard T. Crane Jr., the stunning Italian Renaissance design was the most expensive home ever built on Jekyll Island. Even more than 100 years later, its allure endures. The cottage includes a picturesque sunken garden, central courtyard, reflecting pool, and Italian cypress trees.
This year’s theme, Pastel Perfection, was brought to life by our team of professionals, including Gerald Dampier (Glam King) on makeup and Alicia Brooks from the Hair Cottage, who created multiple romantic styles. Our friends at Cunningham, Chadwick’s, and Joseph Jewelers shared soft-colored gems (along with the standard stunning diamonds and pearls) that were a perfect fit.
Rhonda Rowell with Rhonda Rowell Photography styled and photographed the flat lays. One new element we featured was a custom-designed invitation from Copper Row Studio, a go-to company for local couples. Our bridal bouquet was provided by Edward on St. Simons. It was designed by Dan Erdman.
John Krivec, as per usual, photographed our model — and outdid himself doing it. This year our girl was Mary Kate Hendley, who modeled gorgeous gowns from our friends at Southern Posh Couture Bridal in Baxley.
A recent bride herself, we featured Mary Kate’s wedding to her husband, Scott, in our 2024 Bride issue. She was absolutely incredible and we’re so grateful for her time. Last but certainly not least, to the Jekyll Island Club Resort’s fabulous team. Thank you for all of your help and trust. We hope you all enjoy it.

Addison
Price + Jacob Melley
June 7, 2025
Queen & Grant, Brunswick
Addison Price grew up moving between Annapolis, Maryland, and Cumming, Georgia.
But the Golden Isles were also a key location on the map for her.
“I grew up coming to the Golden Isles all my life. Both my mom and dad are from there, and both sides of the family live there. Every holiday break was spent in Golden Isles,” she says.
It was one very special holiday that changed her life forever. Addison was in the area with her boyfriend, Jacob, when he asked that all-important question.
“We got engaged on November 23, 2024, at my grandparents’ Thanksgiving celebration in Brunswick,” she says. “He proposed in the backyard during family photos with the marsh and water in the background.”
The two met through mutual friends in 2023 during a Labor Day weekend at Lake Lanier. Jacob, a native of Buford, Georgia, was formally introduced to the Golden Isles when the two started dating.
And when they were considering places to exchange vows, it was at the top of their list. The two settled on historic Queen & Grant in downtown Brunswick.
“We both wanted a venue that provided a ceremony, cocktail, and reception locations in one. We wanted it to be intimate and full of fun,” she says.
“I loved the exposed brick and white interior reception space, but also how it included an outdoor area for our ceremony and the patio for the cocktail hour. The venue also had a built-in shelving wall when you enter, which we could use to display childhood pictures of my husband and me.”
The color palette embraced soft pastels, woven into the florals and bridesmaids’ dresses. Another special dress also made an appearance.
“I wore my mom’s wedding dress for my reception dress. It was so special to have family members who were at my parents’ wedding get to see me in her dress,” she says.
The entire day, from the summer shades to the historic setting, felt like a dream for Addison and Jacob. It was the perfect beginning to their life together.
“(It was) something we both had been praying for, and it was so exciting to have those prayers answered. I was just on cloud nine the whole day,” she says.
Of course, lining up all of those elements over the course of a short seven months was stressful at times. And the two
have some sage advice to share with others who will soon make their way down the aisle.
“Our top advice to engaged couples would be to block out the noise. Wedding planning can be overwhelming and even upsetting at times. Don’t forget the real reason for the wedding, marrying your soulmate,” she says.
“Block everything out and no matter what happens, you get to marry your special person. That makes it all worth it.”

Selina Cheung + David Gu February 8, 2025
Crane Cottage, Jekyll Island
Selina Cheung and David Gu came from a world away. Selina was born in Hong Kong, while David grew up in Shanghai, China.
“Selina was born in Hong Kong, but immigrated to California when she was 2,” David adds.
The couple met while working in Beijing.
“We met at a bar in Beijing, China. We’re both foreign to the city, but working there at the time,” Selina says.
After first connecting, it didn’t take long before the two decided that this relationship was one that would last forever. And during a trip to Puerto Rico, David asked that very important question.
“We got engaged in 2023 around Christmas in Puerto Rico. I proposed to Selina on a beach,” he says.
Once their engagement was official, they settled into a two-year planning process, one that included scouting various venues for their big day. The couple decided that they wanted to marry in winter, but in a warm climate.
“We were choosing between a few venues in Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina, but in the end, the rich history and the secluded nature captured us to sign with Jekyll Island,” Selina says.
They set the date for early February at the Jekyll Island Club Resort. With historic weather patterns on their side, they assumed that would provide a mild day to say “I do.” However, with a rare ice and snow storm hitting the area weeks earlier, they were slightly concerned.
“We were honestly worried about the weather, given that Georgia suffered a snowstorm a few weeks before our wedding. But the golden sun, as well as the temperature, was just right on our wedding day,” David says.
In addition to the temperature, they wanted others to make sure they offered their guests a warm welcome. They extended the events throughout a weekend, offering various activities for their destination affair.
“We wanted to make sure our guests would enjoy the time on the island since most of them would be traveling in,” David says.
“We planned different activities for our guests to participate in, including a dolphin tour, a trolley tour to visit the cottages on the island, a biking tour, and the sea turtle rescue center.”
Other elements they made sure to include were deeply personal, especially their faith.
“We’re both Christians, so we wanted to honor God during the ceremony. Our pastor was vacationing in Costa Rica, but he flew in for us the night before,” he says. “We also created a simple, yet very elegant ceremony pedestal area with our florist.”
The florals included an orchid bouquet and boutonnieres, along with a mix of white and light pink roses.
They also enjoyed the historic venue, Crane Cottage, and made sure their attire reflected the vibe. And, of course, they added a little fun into the mix.
“We both enjoyed the party celebration after the reception. Our venue’s lounge area was just right for our guests. And we all had fun dancing and singing,” he says.
At the end of the festivities, the couple found a quiet moment to reflect on the significance of their ceremony and the brightness of their lives ahead.
“I felt like it’s a new start of a very important chapter in my life. Husband and wife should be one, and I look forward to living through that for the rest of my life,” says David.

The Bulldawg and the Gator
Hilary Hilgers + Drew Baker
May 17, 2025
Gascoigne Bluff Park and Captain’s Bluff, St. Simons Island
It seems like an urban myth. A Georgia Bulldawg and a Florida Gator fall in love, marry, and live happily ever after?
But for Hilary Hilgers and Drew Baker, it’s not a fantasy; it’s reality.
“Miracles do happen,” Hilary says with a laugh.
The two met while working for the University of Georgia in 2020. After they started dating, it wasn’t too long before the duo knew this relationship would go the distance. Drew proposed amidst twinkling Christmas lights in Gainesville, Florida, in 2023.
“The best Christmas present to date is receiving a fiancé,” Hilary says.
Once they started planning, they set their sights on one location — St. Simons Island.
While neither is a Georgia native — Hilary hails from Danville, California, and Drew from Lakeland, Florida — both have spent time in the Isles.
“While SSI was new to Drew, I had discovered St. Simons, as many Dawgs do, at Frat Beach for the Georgia-Florida football game,” she says.
Her mother, Nancy, relocated to St. Simons in 2022, and the couple frequently visited for holidays and beach trips.
“Right away, we fell in love with the fun, magical, and picturesque island. We knew St. Simons was the perfect setting for our wedding,” she says.
Once they had the setting, they wanted to set the right vibe. To help, they tapped Emily Burton at Emily Burton Designs.
“We both love the styles found in the 1920s era, and wanted to include that and a cigar lounge in our reception. Our vision would not have been achieved without our wedding designer turned dear friend, Emily Burton,” Hilary says.
“She took our ideas and vision and created the Coastal Speakeasy concept embedded throughout our wedding design.”
Part of the ambiance was creating Cooper’s Cigar Lounge, a nod to their black lab, Cooper. Other unique features included an ice cream sandwich bar and late-night passed espresso martinis shared while the band played “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter. The two ended their night with a grand exit, clad in their collegiate colors.
“We were Georgia and Florida jerseys with numbers that reflected our wedding date (5 and 17) and our lifelong rivalry of the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators,” Hilary says.
The wedding day was filled with lighthearted moments, deep introspection, and lots of love.
“We both felt comfortable sharing how we love, value, celebrate, and support each other daily. It truly felt like a celebration; we were both bursting with joy throughout the day and evening,” she says.

GOLDEN ISLES
Comfort, Color, and Caprese
Madison Ellis + Rowdy Gregg
November 2, 2024
Wesley Memorial Gardens, St. Simons Island
RW
Madison Ellis and Rowdy Gregg were destined to be Golden Islanders. And they were destined to find each other.
An Atlanta native, Madison vacationed in the area and officially made the move in 2019.
Rowdy and his siblings grew up in Anza, California, but would visit their grandmother on the coast.
“My siblings and I would pressure our grandmother into keeping us longer and longer, until one year we just didn’t go back,” he says. “We’re now all Glynn Academy graduates. I’ve always enjoyed having a long-time connection through my grandmother who managed the Holiday Inn on Gloucester back in the 60s, and my father being a UGA graduate … go Dawgs!”
Once Madison and Rowdy found each other, they knew their love was the real deal. Once they were engaged, they focused on creating a wedding that was uniquely their own.
“Our vision for the wedding evolved over the course of our twoyear engagement. We initially planned to elope in Cinque Terre, Italy. As the news began to settle with our families, our small elopement blossomed into what we lovingly call our Italian Backyard Wedding,” Madison explains.
The two were inspired by the colors and charm of the town and wove in many of those elements into the celebration.
“… vivid florals, bright dinnerware, custom pink koozies, and homemade fabric garland. We served limoncello spritzes for our Champagne toast, followed by Caprese skewers and meatballs for antipasto, pizza for dinner, and, of course, tiramisu with espresso martinis to finish out the evening,” she says.
“Our backyard came to life with personal touches. Our grandmothers’ paintings hung as a gallery wall along our back fence, glowing under warm lights. Vibrantly colored candlesticks set the mood everywhere you looked. Cozy lounge areas with mismatched patterns invited people to settle in and share stories, laughter, and easy conversation with new family.”
The wedding was set on what’s arguably the most exciting weekend in the Isles … which could be considered a faux pas. But not for this newly-married couple.
“Getting married on the GA/FL rivalry weekend was exciting for all of us. Wedding costumes on Frat Beach were a big hit. My sweet wife is now indoctrinated with her own ‘Gregg UGA jersey. We told everyone not to worry, we still had the game on,” Rowdy says.
While the two formally exchanged vows at the courtyard of Wesley Church Frederica, their special day encompassed a number of areas near and dear to their heart. They stopped at Rafters and Mallery Street Cafe for photos (with the groom’s sister behind the lens) before heading back to their home for the much-loved reception.
“The best compliment received has been ‘just the most comfortable wedding I’ve ever attended,’” Madison says.

Sweet Georgia
Sarah Lynn Woodruff + Tyler Olker
February 8, 2025
Forbes Farm, St. Simons Island
RW
When Sarah Lynn Woodruff and Tyler Olker met, it wasn’t necessarily love at first sight. But it didn’t take long for Cupid to strike.
“(We) met at the University of Kansas in 2019, working for the football team. Tyler was the Director of Recruiting, and I was the Associate Director of Football Operations,” Sarah Lynn says. “We met during my interview.”
The two started dating and decided to make it official on July 3, 2023.
“We got engaged at Mallery Park on St. Simons. Trying to keep it a secret, Tyler planned to walk me down to Georgia Sea Grill for dinner, and instead of taking the normal route from my parents’ house on May Joe, we went through the park,” she says.
“Waiting in the middle of the park was a little basket with champagne. In a sneak attack, our dog, Georgia, came flying from around the corner with a bandana that said, ‘Will You Marry My Dad?’”
From that adorable beginning, wedding plans got underway. And St. Simons Island was so special to them, it only made sense to plan the big day there.
“I grew up coming to SSI because my grandmother and my aunt’s family live down there. Around 2008, my parents bought a house down here, and it’s been the place to go for every Memorial Day, July 4th, and any other time in between,” she says.
While the couple is pretty simple, they wanted to create an elegant ceremony with sentimental touches woven throughout.
“The flower arrangements were a mix of elaborate and simple so as not to be overwhelming,” Sarah Lynn says. “We also wanted to make sure that our sweet dog, Georgia, was included throughout the evening with subtle nods on cocktail napkins, a special cocktail, and even at the cake table.” The night was everything they dreamed of and more.
Naturally, another element made its way into the planning process — football.
“Claire Simmons did a fantastic job of finding a way to incorporate our love for football into our evening subtly. Football is our life, both professional and personally, but because of that, we didn’t want it to be what consumed our wedding,” Sarah Lynn says.
“Claire put together a ‘We can’t kick off without you’ wall that had small black footballs with everyone’s name & table number on them. It was the most elegant and stylish nod to what also brought us together.”
But after the fourth quarter wrapped and the evening ended, the two looked forward to starting their lives as Mr. and Mrs.
“There is no better feeling than being married to your best friend. To go into the next stage of life knowing you are doing it together is an indescribable feeling,” she says. “Two is more powerful than one, and in our line of work, being able to support each other side by side is a necessity.”
