Featured Reader: Patty C. In the 7th grade I stared cutting myself because I was depressed. Honestly I don't know why I would be so depressed I just was‌..I would find myself on the bathroom floor with sharpener blade cutting my wrist ,thighs , shoulders, and at one point my throat. I couldn't do in my room because I use to share it with my brother and he would see me. People who knew about me doing this use to think I was crazy because I would say "pain is beautiful" but this pain kept getting a bit out of hand. 8th grade came and things got worse! I met new friends and new people who I highly disliked. I remember a girl I highly disliked who started cutting herself just to mock me! She started telling people her life was horrible and she wanted to die. One of those people were my cousin. She went to same school I did. I guess I just felt bad because she never noticed my real cuts and just focused on that other girl mocking me and her fake story. My cutting got to the point where I would get mad at some people for the stupidest reason and I would actually carve their initials into my skin‌ yes I know it was stupid! I eventually became addicted to cutting! I believed this was my freshman year. Evenutally I joined band. The people there were amazing. They changed my life in a way they'll never understand. That's why I consider them my family! Like I said I was happy but.. I kept cutting myself!!! I couldn't stop that's when I honestly found it Something fun to do! Finally at the beginning of my sophomore year I made a promise to myself and said that every time I feel like cutting myself I should just got into my room and listen to music as a distraction for myself! I'm proud to able to say that up to today my arms have been clean for almost a whole year! Music has changed me! Not only music but band because it gave me a distraction from counting to cut myself! My future has some very different plans and goals that I hope to accomplish soon after high school!

TEEN COUNTRY ARTIST GIVES GOLDCRWN MAGAZINE AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW ABOUT HER START UP & HOW SHE GOT THROUGH ONE OF HER FIRST AUDITIONS EVER!
WRITTEN BY NISHA ALI
Riley Roth is a teen country/pop artist from Pennsylvania with a growing fan base and a number of awards such as 2011 Winner ages 12-15 Happy Valley's Got Talent, 2011 North American Country Music Association and more. "Sweet Summer Love" ,which is on her first EP called "Summer Love".has its own video out now on youtube. It's her first ever music video. She has also had her hand in acting , playing the role of an orphan in a professional production of “Oliver!”, Annie in “Annie”, and Gabriella in “High School Musical”. We got the chance to sit down and get to know more about this inspirational upcoming artist amd also talk to her about her National Anthem Audition.
" Both school and music have been equally important to me. " Q : How come your parents never knew you could sing before you went to the national anthem audition ? A: My parents knew I could sing because I sang ALL of the time around the house, but they never really considered whether I could sing "well" (in tune). They always said they loved my little voice, but didn't really compare me to others. Q: How did your parents act when you wanted to audition ? A: They were kind of surprised and scared because they didn't truly know whether I was ready and could sing well enough. Q: When you started getting thrown off in the audition , how did you feel after it was over and while it was happening? A: I don't really remember it well because I was only 8 years old, but I remember that I hiccuped and then it made me more nervous. Q: What motivated you to keep singing and move forward? A: My parents enrolled me in a children's theater program to help me with stage fright and to be more comfortable. I really enjoyed that. I played Annie in "Annie" and then Gabriella in "High School Musical". That is when I realized that I really wanted to sing.
Q: On your list of accomplishments you have been in a lot of plays, what made you want to start acting?
A: It was a way to help me get over stage fright, but I ended up loving it. In addition to the earlier theater mentioned, I was also in one professional theater production and filmed a movie last August, which should be out late next summer. Q: Our magazine focuses on bring awareness to bullying, what would you say to kids and teens who are being bullied? A: I've been bullied; mostly online (cyber bullying), but also at school. One important thing that I have learned is that bullies often have a low self-esteem. When they are unable to bring themselves up, they feel the need to bring others down. This is sad, but just remember that they are trying to tear you apart because they are often jealous of what you have or what you have accomplished. Keep your head held HIGH! - Riley
Q: How does it feel to have so many accomplishments at a young age? A: It makes me feel really good about myself and boosted my confidence. I know now that if I work hard and remain determined, I can reach my goals.
Q: We see you play guitar, If so , who taught you and when did you start playing?
Q: How did you manage to keep straight A's and pursue music?
A: I've had two guitar teachers nearby, and I took a guitar class last year through my school. I got my first guitar about 3 years ago but I didn't play on stage until about 1 1/2 years ago. I could only play one song then and now I can play a lot.
A: I work really hard at what I do and both school and music have been equally important to me.
Q: It says you wrote a book and it was published , could you tell us about that?
Q: Whats your favorite thing about writing music ?
A: Haha Yes, I wrote a book in 4th grade for a library contest, and I won. The prize was to have the book published It's in my local library, along with a few other copies. Not a big deal in the "publishing world", but pretty cool when you're a fourth grader.
A: It's a way to express my feelings. It's kind of a "wake up call" to a guy if I like him, because I write a lot of my songs about guys. I also like to write songs that inspire teens.
