Rainbows is all about developing self

confidence, building friendships, learning new things and having fun.

Girls get their hands dirty with arts and crafts, get in touch with nature and play games - it's all about learning by doing.

This interest badge for Rainbows lets girls dream it, plan it, build it!

Rainbows learn by doing and taking part in sports, arts and crafts and playing lots of games. Being a Rainbow is all about having the space to try new things.

They can work towards interest badges, where they can learn about everything from recycling to storytelling, and start their skills builder journey, developing core skills and trying new things like camping, leadership and first aid.

There are even awards they can earn, like the Rainbow Gold award and the six Theme awards, which show their commitment and encourage pride in their achievements.

As a leader you can help our Rainbows to explore the world around them, challenge themselves and have fun as well as helping them take part in lots of different activities with girls their own age.

Brownies is all about trying new things that teach girls about themselves, their community and their world.

Brownies introduces girls to a world of new opportunities, challenges and fun as they continue their journey. Girls go along to camps, holidays, day trips and sleepovers.

They get together with their friends at regular meetings where they get the opportunity to build on the skills they learnt in Rainbows.

The activities are divided into 6 themes; Skills for my Future; Have Adventures; Be Well, Know Myself; Express Myself and Take Action.

As well as trying activities in their meetings, girls choose from interest badges related to things they want to know more about.

As a Leader you can help our Brownies go on an adventurous journey, learn new skills and take on challenges as they work out what they want to be and do in the future.

What you do in Guides is up to you, from taking part in lots of exciting activities at regular meetings to special events & trips away, developing as they journey.

Guides choose from different badges and awards which will help them learn new skills and try new challenges. They can do some of this on their own and some will be done in groups.

Guides get out there and do something really different. They create their own campaigns, learn and share new skills and fly down the occasional zip wire.

Not only that there is the chance to explore new places, go on camps, holidays and trips plus enjoy exciting events like our star-studded concert the Big Gig and the music festival, Wellies and Wristbands.

As a Leader you can help our Guides try new things and celebrate with them when they've pushed themselves to achieve something special.

Rangers is a new section for girls aged 1418 and will replace The Senior Section from the start of the academic year 2019/20.

Rangers meet up regularly, have fun doing activities together and be recognised for their achievements with badges and awards.

Young women in Rangers will follow our programme of interest badges, skills builders and awards and take part in amazing challenges, travel the world and develop skills across our six themes.

Rangers reflects the lives of young women today, and supports them to find the roles and opportunities they need to have fun, succeed and thrive in the 21st century.

As a Leader you can help them achieve The Young leader qualification (YLQ), gain their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) or complete the challenge of attaining the Ranger Gold Award.

Karen became County Commissioner at the end of 2018 but has been a part of Bedfordshire Girlguiding for many years.

New County Commissioner for Bedfordshire Guides

Becoming a Commissioner is one of Girlguiding's leading roles and Karen has direct input influencing guiding in Bedfordshire and improving the opportunities for girls and young women to experience guiding.

Karen regularly engages with our teams across Bedfordshire and along with the Division and District Commissioners is responsible for, and accountable to, the whole membership of our area.

By leading a team of dedicated and skilled volunteers Karen ensures that quality guiding is delivered. We are delighted that Karen has taken on the role and we look forward to the next four years under her leadership. bedsguiding.org.uk
