Celebrated since 1926, World Thinking Day,is a day of international friendship, speaking out on issues that affect girls and young women, and fundraising for ten million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world.

Hundreds of girls and their leaders attended the celebrations across the county which saw the girls going on a sponsored walk to raise much-needed funds, enjoying a Communications themed weekend, take in part in a Four Escape Rooms challenge, plus a range of fun activities including designing a reusable bag, making mosaics, creating artworks and much more.

There was also time to rededicate their promises and think about their Girlguiding sisters across the globe.

Division Commissioner Paula Whittall said, 'We were delighted to see so many girls and young women here today all celebrating World Thinking Day. We had such a great time organising the event.' Paula added, 'It is such an important date in the Girlguiding calendar as it gives us a chance to get together and connect with our Girlguiding family across the world'.

OUR FABULOUS VOLUNTEERS!

Many of our volunteers are recognised for their hard work and dedication to Girlguiding, young women and girls as well as the wider community.

This year some of our members have already been honoured including Gill, Sue and Georgina who received a High Sheriff of Bedfordshire Award for their great and valuable services to the community. The award was presented by the High Sheriff V B Tailor Esq DL at a ceremony hosted in Luton.

South Beds Guiding Leader Chris Daniels was also a recent recipient of a High Sherriff of Bedfordshire Award winning the Adult category for service to the community. Linleighbridge District Commissioner Debbie Smith said “Chris has been an active Guide Leader for 50 years, encouraging and enthusing girls and young women through the Girlguiding programme to become confident, enquiring, motivated, independent and happy individuals regardless of their abilities”.

Over the years as well and the active weekly meetings, Chris, along with her teams has taken girls on numerous camps, holidays at home and abroad including Holland and Switzerland and outings to many, many interesting places in the UK. Luton South Division hosted an Afternoon Tea to recognise Sue on her amazing Laurel Award and Jean on her 60 years service to Girlguiding.

Many congratulations to them both - what excellent achievements.
