Double 50th Year Celebrations For The 12th Dunstable Brownies

On Monday 2nd October 2017, the Brownies celebrated their semi centennial year by welcoming Anthea back to her unit, now at the Dunstable Salvation Army, half a century after she first opened it.

It was also a celebration for current unit leader Janet Rhodes who was also celebrating her semi centennial year within Guiding and has run 12th Dunstable Brownies for 20 years. The 2017 Brownies celebrated by going back in time and taking part in lots of fun activities that girls their age would have taken part in when the unit first opened in 1967.

Janet said, 'It was amazing to meet Anthea and welcome her back to the unit. The girls were very excited to meet her and it was fantastic that she was able to attend.'

Anglia Youth Award for Brave Jacobi

Rainbow Jacobi Bowers was presented with the Girlguiding Anglia Youth Award for her notable display of bravery.

Seven year old Jacobi is only the second member in Bedfordshire County to have been awarded the Anglia Youth Award, so it is a real achievement. A member of 1st Brickhill Rainbow Unit since 2015 Jacobi has shown herself to be a lively, happy, brave and caring young lady.

At just seven years old Jacobi has had to cope with her mum Jenny being very ill and having a number of prolonged stays in hospital. Jacobi not only looks after herself, regularly getting herself ready for school and making breakfast, she also helps look after her little sister as well as helping to look after her Mum.

Betsy Marley said, 'We were delighted to present Jacobi with her award. She has shown exceptional commitment

to her family as well as a high level of time and commitment to Rainbows.' Betsy added,'Jacobi has had to cope with a lot more than the average six and seven year old and we are all very proud of her.' Jacobi is now looking forward to moving up to Brownies.

February 22nd is World Thinking Day What is World Thinking Day?

SAVE TH E DATE!

Celebrated since 1926, World Thinking Day is a day of international friendship, speaking out on issues that affect girls and young women, and fundraising for 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world. It all started in 1932 when Lady Olave Baden-Powell wrote a letter to all Girl Guides and Girls Scouts asking them to spare a penny to support Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting to grow.

The idea is simple: one coin might not seem like a lot, but 10 million coins can grow the Movement across the globe. The World Thinking Day Fund enables The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to offer support and opportunities to girls and young women from 146 countries, allowing them to run projects and campaigns, attend training events, conferences, seminars and so much more.

Girlguiding is a founder member of WAGGGS which is the official umbrella organisation for all national Girl Guide and Girl Scout organizations. It is the largest voluntary Movement dedicated to girls and young women in the world.
