The Queen’s Guide Award is the highest award you can work towards in guiding. It is a challenging programme of excursions, outdoor adventures and community action open to members aged 16 to 25.
The award is based on the concepts of personal challenge and participation and is split into five sections: Service in Guiding - take an active role in guiding at a range of levels.
Outdoor challenge - build your teamwork and leadership skills in a glorious outdoor setting. Where you go and what you do is up to you!

Gold DofE Award
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of activities for anyone aged 14 to 24.
with the world around you and gain a greater understanding of it through practical and research projects of your choice. Residential - spend two nights and three days away from home with new people.
Zoe Swinburn from East Beds Division was presented with her Queens Guide Award earlier this year.
Girlguiding has joined forces with DofE so our members can complete this fantastic challenge as part of their guiding experience.
DofE fits in closely with many of the other awards and qualifications available through guiding, in particular, the Queen’s Guide Award. There are three progressive levels of the award - Bronze, Silver and Gold - that vary in length and commitment.
For each level there are four sections: Volunteering, physical, skills-development and an expedition and for the Gold Award, residential.
This summer Georgina Barrett was presented with her Gold DofE Award Certificate at Buckingham Palace.
To complete her Gold DofE Georgina took part in an expedition in the Peak District, she learned to drive a car, tried to learn to skateboard, attended an archaeology field school, and completed her Assistant Leader Qualification for Brownies.
Georgina is looking forward to collecting her Queen’s Guide Award next year.
Guides & Senior Section
Personal skill development - start a new skill and develop it, or take an existing skill to a new level for a minimum of 60 hours over 12 months. A personal skill could be anything from ballet to circus skills, or performing magic tricks to playing a musical instrument.

Have an adventure out of doors – a range of adventurous and traditional outdoor activities will be available to try. Activities may include archery, climbing, raft building, kayaking, pioneering, outdoor cooking, fire lighting, shelter building, outdoor themed craft. Cost £20 (to be confirmed)
Wet and Wild – Dockland water sports -25-28 May 2018
Join us in the Isle of Dogs, London aboard the Lord Amory for a wet and wild weekend on the water. Activities could include sailing, canoeing, kayaking and raft building. You’re guaranteed to get wet and have fun! Cost £150 (to be confirmed)
Island Adventure – 2/3 June 2018
Join us in St Ives, Cambs. for an Island adventure on the water, activities likely to include canoeing, kayaking, bell boating, raft building and archery. Sleep out under the stars (optional and weather dependent), enjoy backwoods cooking, outdoors craft and a fish and chip supper. Cost: £60
Rocking all over the Peaks– 29 June – 1 July 2018
Have an adventure in the Peak District. Travel to Hope Valley and spend two days rock climbing on crags. Learn how to tie in and belay. Cost: £95 (to be confirmed) (Includes one session at Big Rock in advance of the weekend)
What’s (S)UP? – Mondays 18 June, 2 July, 16 July 2018
Join us for an evening of Stand-up Paddle boarding (SUP). Have fun on and in the water and hopefully on your feet. Priory Marina, Bedford Cost £3 per session

This July many of our Guides and Senior Section had a fun -filled four night activity camp at the Leslie Sell Activity Centre in Bromham. The camp had a Superhero theme with four zones. Activities included Archery, Surfing, Caving, Go Karting, a trip to the Aquapark and lots more. Of course, no camp is complete without a roaring campfire and some rousing guiding sing-along-songs!
Camps and adventure days take place regularly across Bedfordshire, giving girls the opportunity to take on the great outdoors and to push their limits.
Adventurous activities are a cornerstone of our programme.
We encourage our Guides to work towards their Camper badge. Plus Guides can get their Guide Camp Permit and our members aged 14 to 25 can gain a special permit to lead camping trips themselves.

What is World Thinking Day?
Celebrated since 1926, World Thinking Day is a day of international friendship, speaking out on issues that affect girls and young women, and fundraising for 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world. It all started in 1932 when Lady Olave Baden-Powell wrote a letter to all Girl Guides and Girls Scouts asking them to spare a penny to support Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting to grow.
The idea is simple: one coin might not seem like a lot, but 10 million coins can grow the Movement across the globe. The World Thinking Day Fund enables The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to offer support and opportunities to girls and young women from 146 countries, allowing them to run projects and campaigns, attend training events, conferences, seminars and so much more.
Girlguiding is a founder member of WAGGGS which is the official umbrella organisation for all national Girl Guide and Girl Scout organizations. It is the largest voluntary Movement dedicated to girls and young women in the world.
