RACE PROGRAMME
Friday 4th December & Saturday 5th December 2020 www.ShelbourneParkGreyhoundStadium.ie
CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME... A Chairde, I would like to extend a warm welcome to everybody participating in the Rásaíocht Con Éireann/Greyhound Racing Ireland Winter Racing Festival. I appreciate that many of you will be engaging on-line or watching the action through RPGTV who, we are delighted, continue to provide excellent coverage of Irish Greyhound Racing. The race cards on offer for the two days of the festival comprise the best greyhound talent in 2020 and we very much appreciate owners and trainers who are making the festival what it is – a celebration of success during the year. 2020 has been a difficult year for a variety of reasons. Covid-19 has had a significant impact on all sporting activities. We have worked hard to ensure that greyhound racing, in accordance with government directives and guidance, is permitted to continue at all levels under the government’s Resilience and Recovery Plan. 2020 has also been a very challenging year for the greyhound industry itself and many of you will have watched closely the ongoing debate regarding government support for the industry and the allocation under the Horse & Greyhound fund. I want to acknowledge the strong support from the majority of Oireachtas members to funding the greyhound industry and the allocation of €19.2M for 2020, having regard to the issues associated with Covid-19, is very welcome. It is also very heartening to see the strong support from the greyhound community in a recent poll conducted by the journal.ie on whether government funding should continue for the greyhound industry. At time of writing, 16,843 votes have been cast in support of government funding with 45.6% of votes suggesting that funding should cease. This is a demonstration of the level of support that exists for the greyhound industry and what can be achieved when the greyhound community and those who support the industry act as a collective and get behind their sport and their industry. This weekend however is about focusing on action on the track. Let’s put everything else to one side as we sit back and enjoy some fantastic racing action with the best talent in the sport on display. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all in the greyhound community the very best for Christmas 2020. I do hope you have a meaningful Christmas and I look forward to continuing our programme of work to support and grow the greyhound industry in 2021. Le gach dea ghuí

This sport of ours is thrilling. Edge of the seat. A rush from the second the traps open. It's always been that way. Part of what makes us what we are. The coming together of communities on the track. The retired trainer walking his dogs down our street. The fundraising, the charity, the simple reason to meet. The hundreds of years of tradition that forms our sport. The generations of families brought together by their love of the dogs. We stand for all that is good about our sport. HOW TO REHOME YOUR
RETIRED RACING GREYHOUND Share some key information to help us match your greyhound to their new home, the more quality information you share, the easier and quicker the process will be. Some things we need are: • At least 3 good quality photographs – no muzzles, headshot & full body please. If your greyhound is good with kids and animals or likes lazing on the couch, show us! • Complete a short profile on your greyhound – we have a form that will help. • Visit our Facebook page or talk to us for tips.
Visit your Vet as soon as possible for pre-rehoming procedures including neutering/spaying, pet passport, vaccinations, flea/worm treatment. RCÉ and IRGT will provide finance towards these costs Your greyhound will remain at home with you until we’ve matched them with their new home. Once your greyhound is ready to move to their new home you will carry them to an arranged collection point.
Contact the IRGT to start the rehoming journey Tel: Joanne on 061 448089 Email: joanne.murray@grireland.ie Web: www.irgt.ie
