WELCOME MESSAGE Friends, This time last year I was welcoming you to Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium to watch the Irish Greyhound Laurels 2019 final. Unfortunately, given the strange times we now find ourselves in, this year I am welcoming you virtually to the 2020 final. While “racing behind closed” doors is disappointing for fans, we hope that you have enjoyed watching the action live on Talking Dogs each week. It certainly has not taken from the work behind the scenes and the support for the event. This is the second year of a 4 year sponsorship funded solely by you - the friends and supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing. There was a phenomenal response when we commenced the fundraising last year and we are deeply grateful for all of your support. This is truly your Laurels, your event and you can all be immensely proud of your efforts. The final line-up reflects the fantastic standard that we have come to expect from The Irish Greyhound Laurels, and as a Cork man I am delighted to see that we have 3 Cork trained greyhounds in this years event. CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME A Chairde, Welcome owners and trainers to the Final of the 2020 Irish Greyhound Laurels sponsored by the Friends and Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing. While these are indeed strange times and patrons will be disappointed that they will not join the finalists on Saturday night to witness the winner being crowned, I am sure that you all will agree that we are extremely fortunate that we are able to continue racing, albeit “behind closed doors”. The response to the decision to stream the live action from Cork on Talking Dogs has been overwhelmingly positive and allowed fans to follow the action in real time. I want to take this opportunity to once again salute and thank The Friends & Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing for their continued sponsorship. This is the second year of an incredible four year commitment and is deeply appreciated by all involved in the sport. I would like to also personally thank all of the Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium and Rásaíocht Con Éireann staff for continuing to deliver racing in very trying circumstances, and to every owner, trainer and handler for their assistance in ensuring COVID-19 compliance throughout the event. PATH TO THE FINAL CORK trainers Johnny Linehan and Kieran Lynch dominated proceedings in the opening round of the 2020 Irish Greyhound Laurels at Curraheen Park.

Both Johnny Linehan and Kieran Lynch recorded trebles on the 11-race card at a cold but dry Cork track.
Favourite backers got off to a flying start when Runninta Seeya took the opener for Cork trainer Johnny Linehan. Owned by the Runninta-Syndicate, Ardee, the 4-6 market leader broke best and he quickly took control heading down the far side. Cash Ready ran a fine race to finish second, two and a half lengths behind the most impressive winner, in 28.19. A length and a half back to Ballyhooly Cian in third. All eyes were on Broadstrand Bono in heat eight and the Johnny Linehan-trained star made a winning return to racing action for owners the Ryan-DrakeDonovan-Syndicate. It looked a hot event on paper but once Broadstrand Bono broke in front it was race over. He skipped a few lengths clear heading down the back and there’s no doubt he should come forward for the outing. Coming back to the field late on, the even-money favourite was just three-quarters of a length clear of Ballymac Anton at the line, in 28.33, with four and a half lengths back to Sweep The Yard in third place. In the following race, Linehan’s Droopys Hamish (pictured right), who is owned by the Kieran-RyanSyndicate, flew home to force a dead heat with early leader Razldazl Marilyn, for the kennel of Neilus O’Connell. A magnificent finish with the judge unable to split them in 28.70. Four lengths back to Ballymac Lowry in third. Cork trainer Kieran Lynch is bidding for a hat trick of straight Laurels and his in-form Ballymac Trudi continued her winning run with another superb display in race five. In a great early battle with Fainne Chiarrai, the winner took control heading down the back and that sealed victory. A three-length victory over Fainne Chiarrai, in 28.57, for owners John Quinn and John Maher, at odds of 5-2. Ballycowen John a length and a half behind the runner-up in third. It was two on the night for Kieran Lynch when the well supported Tracton Tornando landed heat 10 at odds of 3-1 for owners the Tracton-Flyer-Syndicate. Breaking well from the rails pitch, he had the race in
safekeeping early on and he romped home to beat Russian Blake, by three and a half lengths in 28.67. A length back to Cashen Gobi in third place. The treble was complete when Inforapenny was yet another winner from the red jacket of trap one. Trained by Kieran Lynch for owners the In-For-APound-Syndicate, the 3-1 chance came out running and led all-the-way. Doing the business in great style, the most impressive winner had four and a half lengths to spare over Woodbrook Laurel, in 28.46. Two lengths back to Springwood Vardy in third. Buttsys Bengal, trained by Gerry Holland, bounced out in front and he made every yard of the running much to the delight of favourite backers. Owned by the Buttsys-Buckos-Syndicate, the even-money jolly set a strong early pace and he pulled away off the home straight to win in style. A four-length success over Priceless Blake, in 28.32, with a neck back to Sevenheads Rock in third place. Trainer Gerry Holian doubled up after Jumeirah Bride brought his winning tally to three wins from just four career outings. In an early battle with kennel-mate Jumeirah Buddy, the 3-1 shot got the better midway down the far side, putting the race to bed on
the home turns, he ended up a length and a half clear of reserve runner Blastoff Fire, in 29.12, with a length and a half back to Jumeirah Buddy in third. Patricks Machine made the most of the rails pitch to lead around the opening corners in race six. Trained by Nelius O’Connell for owner Siobhan Burke, the 2-1 shot was always in control upfront. Our Sydney got the better of Timmys Act for second, three and a half lengths behind the 9-4 winner. A neck back to Timmys Act in third. Yet another double for trainer Nelius O’Connell. Brodys Magic put on a magnificent display to win the second heat which looked the race of the opening round. Supported in the market, the flying early pacer was sent off the 6-4 second choice of the punters. Breaking best from the rails pitch, he led antepost favourite Grangeview Ten to the corner. Both flew down the back with the David Murray-trained winner increasing his lead on the home turns. At the line, he was four and a half lengths clear of Grangeview Ten, in quickest of the night, 28.12, winning for owner Thomas Glynn. Newinn Lester finished third, three lengths behind the runner-up. Witches Ethiopia, for the kennel of Liam Twomey, was a popular local winner of the third. Just like the opening two winners, she was drawn on the rails and came out running. Frankies Jet turned second and he was within a length and a half turning for home but the 2-1 winner is a strong runner and she ended up four lengths clear in 28.38. A short-head back to Corgrigg Toby in third.
SECOND ROUND
THERE was another night of high-class racing action in the second round of the Irish Greyhound Laurels as Liam Dowling’s Ballymac Anton (pictured below)
went quickest on the clock. A Multiple big race winner, the 3-1 shot stopped the clock in 28.24.
There were plenty of shocks along the way and it was another night of entertaining action as round two of the Irish Greyhound Laurels came to a conclusion. Sevenheads Rock cut out the early running in heat five and it was evident from an early stage that Broadstrand Bono was in huge trouble from his horrible draw in trap six. The early leader moved six clear down the back but when Ballymac Anton moved second it was pretty obvious that he would take serious beating. Ultimately, Ballymac Anton was too strong and, once going to the front at the final turn, he eased clear to beat Witches Ethiopia, who made massive late headway to get within two lengths, in 28.24. A length back to Sevenheads Rock in third. Last at the opening turn, Sweep The Yard came from well off the pace to take heat two for owners the Broken-Bookies-Syndicate and trainer Graham Holland. The 7-2 winner had at least six lengths to make up heading down the far side but he powered home to land the spoils. Russian Blake had taken them along early doors and it looked like Ballyhooly Cian was coming through to win the race between the final corners but he couldn’t hold the strong running winner. Runninta Seeya was sent off a short-priced favourite but he didn’t enjoy the clearest of runs back in third. Half a length the winning margin, in 28.25, with two and a half lengths back to the third-placed runner. Only four went to traps for the final heat but it produced the finish of the night. Our Syndey, the 5-4 market leader, bounced out in front and he had to work hard throughout to hold all challengers. Trained by Pat Kiely for Babs Kiely, he just did enough to fend off Tracton Tornado and the big late run of Beach Avenue. Just a short head in front, the judge was unable to split Tracton Tornado and Beach Avenue who dead-heated for second. A fine 28.27 winning run. Fainne Chiarrai showed his best form when delivering a magnificent front running display in heat three. Trained by Karol Ramsbottom for owner Gavin Johns, the 3-1 chance was flying early and he quickly shot five lengths clear. Newinn Lester was closing him down
heading for home but the early paced winner kept on gamely. Droopys Hamish ran on for second, a length and a half behind, in 28.28. Two and a half lengths back to Newinn Lester in third. Supported in the market, Outnumbered made no mistake in the opener winning for owners Bernadette Diskin-Holian and Basil Holian. Inforapenny broke best but the winner made the most of the inside to slip around in front. Trained by Mark O’Donovan, the 2-1 shot was firmly in control on the turns for home. Pulling away in style, he proved five lengths too strong for Priceless Blake, in 28.28. Two lengths back to Cashen Gobi in third. Punters who took a short price about Grangeview Ten never had a moments worry as the Patrick Guilfoyle-trained runner cruised to a three and a halflength success in heat seven. The 4-6 favourite found himself in front early, opening up down the back, he went on to beat Ballycowen John, by three and a half lengths, in 28.37. A head back to Blastoff Fire in third. Corgrigg Toby delivered a determined effort to take heat six for Edel Moroney. The 7-2 winner pulled out all the stops in the closing stages, beating shortpriced favourite Brodys Magic, who found plenty of early crowding. Rallying well in the closing stages and staying on much the better, the impressive winner was a two and a half-length winner, in 28.44. Brodys Magic was a length clear of Springwood Vardy who was back in third. Local hope Ballymac Trudi continued her winning run with another impressive display in heat four. Trained by Kieran Lynch for local owners John Quinn and John Maher, the 2-1 winner landed a few decent
bets in the ring. Soon in front, she then built up a big lead heading down the back. Risk Of Thunder and Chasing Belfast showed massive gears with the winner holding on by a length, in 28.59. Risk Of Thunder a short head in front of Chasing Belfast.
QUARTER FINALS
There were some magnificent performances in the quarter-finals of the Irish Greyhound Laurels.
It started very much as expected with Patrick Guilfoyle’s Grangeview Ten bouncing out in front and making all of the running. Owned by Michael Hogan, the outcome never looked in doubt as the star tracker showed all of his usual big early gears. Cashen Gobi ran a fine race in second, three and a half lengths behind the winner who looked back to his very best. The clock was quickest on the night, a 28.16 winning run. Chasing Belfast two lengths behind the runnerup back in third. The David Murray-trained Brodys Magic (pictured below) looked in trouble having an ordinary start in the second heat, but he then his showed exceptional early gears and driving a brave opening bend, he slipped around the opening corners in front. Owned by Thomas Glynn, flying down the back straight, he moved six lengths clear of Ballymac Trudi with Beach Avenue making eye-catching headway in third. It always looked likely that it would get close upfront as Beach Avenue was noted finishing well last week and that proved the case once more. At the line, there was only a neck in it, in 28.20. Classy performances
from the front two with five and a half lengths back to Witches Ethiopia in third. Droopys Hamish made the most of the trouble up front to take the third heat for local trainer Johnny Linehan. Sevenheads Rock had won the early lead while Runninta Seeya caused major interference at the opening bend as he moved off from the inside which ended the chances of both Tracton Tornando and Risk Of Thunder. At this stage, the early leader had quickly moved clear but Runninta Seeya showed big speed to get on terms heading for home. They tangled at the third corner and it opened the door for the strong running winner who finished best to land the spoils for owners the Kieran-Ryan-Synocayte. Runninta Seeya was six and a half lengths back with a further two and a half lengths back to Springwood Vardy in third. The winning time was 28.67. The judge was called into action in the final heat with Ballymac Anton just getting the verdict for Liam Dowling. After leading early, he looked set for a comfortable victory but in truth, it was far from that. Blastoff Fire running a magnificent race in second, keeping on strongly, it got within a short head of the winner, in 28.24. A very exciting finish with Sweep The Yard only a length behind in third.
SEMI-FINALS
Sponsored by the Friends & Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing, the Irish Laurels delivered two fantastic semi-finals at Curraheen Park. Local Cork trainer Johnny Linehan took the opening
semi-final with the early paced Runninta Seeya, who is owned by the Runninta-Syndicate. Breaking best of all, the winner led around the opening turns from Blastoff Fire and Witches Ethiopia. With crowding in behind, it did the other runners no favours at all. Up front, Runninta Seeya was setting a strong pace, Blastoff Fire did get within a length heading down the far side but the leader was strong, pulling out all the stops, he went on to beat Blastoff Fire, by two lengths, in quickest of the night, 28.16. Witches Ethiopia, now the last standing bitch in the event, a length behind the runner-up in third. Nearing the age of four years, the Liam Dowlingtrained Ballymac Anton once again showed unbelievable guts and determination to register his 26th career victory, taking the second semi-final. Grangeview Ten bolted from traps, winning the early lead and slipping around the opening corners in front. Brodys Magic fluffed his start but he showed all of his usual big early pace to turn second. Turning down the back, Grangeview held a length lead but Brodys Magic showed unbelievable back straight pace to come alongside at the third corner. It was four lengths back to Ballymac Anton who was delivering his usual strong finish. Brodys Magic did overtake Grangeview Ten on the outside but it clearly took a lot out of him and it opened the door for the strong running winner. At the line, Ballymac Anton was a length and a half clear of Brodys Magic. The judge was unable to decide on third place as the fast-finishing Droopys Hamish forced a dead-heat with Grangeview Ten. A re-run was announced, however Grangeview Ten later withdrew and the final spot went to Hamish.

May need some luck in running, but if there’s any trouble upfront, he would become a huge player for outright glory. He could surprise a few tonight especially if the gaps open at the right time. This very pacey performer is not without a chance in this tonight.

Declaration of a ‘NO RACE’ Declaration of a ‘NO RACE’ The stewards may declare a ‘No Race’ only in the following circumstances 1. Where there is mechanical or other defect of the hare equipment or starting box or any outside interferences with the race, or 2. If any of the dogs fight, and as a consequence, all fail to pursue the hare, or 3. If for any other reason all dogs fail to pursue the hare Note: A greyhound turning back in a race does not constitute outside interference. Unauthorised photography in this stadium is strictly prohibited If through any cause the meeting has to be abandoned before the start of the Fourth Race, pass out tickets will be issued, but, under no circumstances, will admission money be refunded. Greyhounds Turning in Traps: 1. If a greyhound turns before the hare is put in motion that greyhound will be taken out and righted. If, however, he turns again no further attention will be given to him. 2. If a greyhound turns while the hare is in motion the hare should not be stopped and the traps should be released. 3. If the hare passes the traps and for any reason the traps do not operate then all the dogs should be taken out and re-examined before they are put into the traps again.
