Ian Fortunes Selection: 1-5-3
One of the stars of the Irish track scene and already a classic champion after lifting last year’s Con & Annie Kirby Memorial at Limerick. On top of that reached the finals of both the Produce Stakes and Laurels, while also recording one of the fastest times ever, and the fastest for 2022, for 525yds at Shelbourne Park, stopping the clock in 27.79 on Derby final night. Blessed with incredible pace and an ideal draw, he is the one to beat tonight.

Probable S.P: 11-10

A brilliant puppy in 2022, reaching two classic deciders in his first season. He first came to prominence when running out a superb winner of the RCETS Open Unraced around here last August before reaching the final of both the Juvenile Derby and Leger. He also finished a close third in the Winter Racing Festival over 525yds. Yet to win a round of this classic but can fly to the third turn and is expected to play a big part.
Probable S.P: 10-1

Amongst the fastest in training after a stunning opening season. After just six career starts, she had already run up the valuable Denis Linehan Solicitors Unraced and reached the final of the Shelley Fennelly Memorial at Cork. A switch to Shelbourne Park saw her improve even further, going well in the early rounds of the Derby before emerging a brilliant winner of the Yvonne Barry Bookmaker 600. She has both stunning pace and real strength.
Probable S.P: 3-1

A real speed merchant, he caught the eye winning an A1 stake at Cork last June. It would be his final start in graded company. He made the transition to open company with zero fuss, winning a heat of the Derby before going on to make the Laurels decider. He also won at the Winter Racing Festival and returned this year in even better form. After starring in the early rounds of the Gold Cup, it’s no shock to see him in tonight’s decider.
Probable S.P: 6-1

One of the true greats of the twenty first century. The 2022 English Derby champion has been a star since the very start of his career. A finalist in this classic last year, he was pressing the eventual winner Susie Sapphire at the third turn when finding bad traffic. Blessed with incredible pace throughout, he is seeking to atone for last year’s defeat and, if coming home in front, would add to his already wonderful legacy. A leading contender.
Probable S.P: 4-1

A powerful galloper that does his best work from halfway, he took some time to find his feet at the start of his career but really hit form during the Newbridge Derby, winning the final in brilliant fashion. He has since taken on the very best, producing some superb runs over 525 and 550yds, including a fine victory in the RCETS Open 550. In superb form this year, he may be the rank outsider but will be finishing faster than any.
