Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, GoggleWorks Center for the Arts consists of a 145,000 square foot, five-story community arts center in what was formerly the Willson Goggle Factory Building. GoggleWorks features six large teaching studios in ceramics, hot and warm glass, jewelry, photography, and wood; 35 juried artists' studios, exhibition galleries, and houses the offices of over a dozen arts, culture, and creative economy organizations.

The complex also includes a 131-seat theatre, which presents art house films daily, a café, and STORE, which retails the work of over 200 individual artists from around the country.

NIGHT OUT AT GOGGLEWORKS FRIDAY, APRIL 29 & MAY 27 6-8PM Grab your loved ones or friends and head to GoggleWorks for a creative Night Out! Currently offered the last Friday of every month, Night Outs are a great introduction to our most popular studios. Enjoy beer, wine, and light refreshments while trying your hand at something new!

Work produced during Ceramics and Glass Night Outs require additional time to be properly dried, fired, and cooled, therefore it is not immediately available to take home. Participants will be called within two weeks when ready.

No prior experience necessary and all materials and tools will be provided.

Explore acrylic painting after a short instructor-led demonstration.

Unlike traditional painting parties, participants will be given an outline, then choose a unique palette, stencils, and stamping methods to create a personalized painting.

FUSED GLASS Pick a mold and your palette to create a colorful glass plate, platter, or bowl after a short demonstration. Please note closed-toe shoes are required in the fusing studio.

Our famously friendly ceramic instructors will walk you through the basics and then turn the wheel over to you. Create a unique piece of pottery, then choose a glaze from among our selection.

Get a hands-on experience in glassblowing by making a pint glass or stemless wine tumbler under the guidance of our Hot Shop manager.

Please note closed-toe shoes are required in the hot glass studio.

You will be guided through the process of throwing, shaping, and trimming your pieces. Slab construction, coil building, and pinching will be covered to give students a foundation in basic handbuilding skills along with learning the fundamentals of the potter's wheel and glazing application. ELECTRIC KILN FIRING WORKSHOP: JAMES PASTORE Session: Saturday, June 4 1 DAY Time: 2-5pm Students: 10 (max.)

Learn about firing, programming, kiln setters, cones, ramping schedules, error codes, and much more. We will look at how to use your kiln so you get the best results possible. Come with questions about electric kilns and firing methods and leave with answers!

RAKU FIRING WORKSHOP: JAMES PASTORE Session: Sunday, May 8 1 DAY Time: 10am-3pm Code: 16S-CER-0252 Session: Sunday, June 5 1 DAY Time: 10am-3pm Code: 16S-CER-0279 Students: 10 (max.) $31.50 Members / $35 Non-Members Learn the basics of low fired glazes, application, and firing techniques in this one-day workshop. Students may bring their own bisque pieces or purchase from a wide range of pre-made pieces. In just a few hours, everyone will leave with a beautiful piece of raku. Workshop starts promptly at 10am and

runs through the day until all students have completed firing their pieces.

Size Requirements: Pots should be no wider than 6" and no taller than 12". Avoid flat forms.

Number of Pots: Students should plan on firing no more than 5 pieces. If time permits, we will fire extras.

Clothing Requirement: All students should wear cotton clothing.

Synthetic or wool clothing can get damaged with heat around the kiln and the reduction chambers. Long hair and loose clothing must be tied back.

WHAT'S RAKU? Raku is a traditional Japanese process where work is glazed, heated in a gas kiln, and then placed in a container of combustible materials. The results range from metallic coppers and golds to greens, yellows, reds, and blues.

OPEN STUDIO All students enrolled in 6, 8, or 10 week ceramic courses receive access to open studio hours as part of their tuition. Open studio hours provide approximately 12 hours per week outside of regular class time. A monthly calendar of hours is available for download online, as well as posted in the studio. GLASS Beginning with a sculpture or object, students in this class will create molds and load glass for the kilns to fire. Once fired, work is removed and polished or sanded to remove rough edges and surface imperfections.

Although the focus is abstract, representational work will be enhanced through a sequence of progressive exercises in mark-making, drawing, painting, and collage to build on skills. The Soffers incorporate learning by observation of the masters, while concentrating on the basics.

Over the past eight years, the Soffers' unique approach of team teaching has proven successful for beginners, intermediates, and professional artists alike to expand the depth and potential of their self expression.

Alan Soffer holds a B.A. and D.D.S. from Temple University. He has studied painting and sculpture at Parsons School of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Ringling School, and SUNY. Soffer exhibits nationally and is in many private collections. Leaving her career in dental hygiene, she studied textiles at Moore College of Art. This workshop will teach you to create silver gelatin prints without a camera. Students will learn a variation of the Chemigram process which allows you to create silver gelatin camera-less prints on blank photo paper.

Using light, resist, and a chemical bath, the process is similar to that of a printmaker; however, the flow of chemicals across the silver gelatin photo paper and the effect of light on the silver open up unique avenues for you to explore. No prior darkroom experience is required; a darkroom assistant will help you learn to develop black and white photo paper.
