FAR OUT TECH UPGRADES

One of the positive outcomes of experiencing the pandemic over the last few years has been the increased technology available on both of our campuses for our students and faculty. GCC has been utilizing the Zoom platform since March of 2020. During this time, the College faculty have provided quality education to our students and are constantly identifying opportunities to create a more engaged classroom. Our Information Technology (IT) Department has been doing an incredible job of updating technology to include:

Zoom Rooms implemented in Ironwood and Houghton, including the biology and chemistry labs in Ironwood. This technology gives the opportunity for a hybrid course delivery.

Network infrastructure updated with top-of-the-line switches, fiber ring for high speed connectivity, and increased internet speeds.

MyPlay camera system installed in the Lindquist Student and Conference Center to track game flow of basketball games to improve live streaming of Samson sports. Partnership with an industry leader in educational video storage and editing to help with digital course content. Integration of virtual welder to enhance classroom experience.

Phone system updated to voice over internet solution also extending the Zoom platform.

Improved student and employee account management, cloud-based email accounts, and the introduction of Single Sign-On to integrate multiple account access, and also allowing for new tools, such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.

Improved network security measures.
