A letter from the Headmistress Dear Parents, This final newsletter of the year marks the end of term events that were enjoyed by all.

Thank you for all of your support in my final weeks as Headmistress of Godstowe. Thank you too for the wonderful gifts and cards and messages: the kind notes from parents and pupils mean so very much.

At last the beautiful the weather is matching the season and I wish you all a wonderful holiday and a relaxing break.

Congratulations to Alice D, who has read just under 6million words. Alice has read, 5,888,000 words.

This year, 6,837 A.R quizzes have been taken, 6,530 quizzes have been passed and 159,243,826 words have been read by girls in Main School.

It has been a wonderful year at Lodge! During our last few lessons of term, we have been looking back and reflecting on some of our special memories of the year.

Many of the children have mentioned enjoying particular events such as our school trips, concerts, Nativity, Sports Day and the Christmas lunch. Others have mentioned liking specific lessons, from Science to the Arts. Some favourite moments have also just been playing with friends and making new friends over the year. Lodge staff have definitely appreciated a full year with the children being in school, being able to teach in a classroom rather than through a screen, with opportunities for children to collaborate, and we are very proud of the progress that all the children have made.

On Monday, we were very pleased to celebrate some of the children's achievements for this term at our Perriss Knight Awards. Lodge and Nursery also sang some songs, with a 'moving on' feel to them, including one especially for Ms Green, whilst Poetry Club performed a very humorous poem. It was lovely that so many parents were able to attend and support their children. Finally, we finished our term with our leavers' tea, where cakes and sandwiches were enjoyed by all as we wished our leavers well for the next stage of their learning.

Thank you for your continuing support over the last year. We hope that you have a very relaxing and enjoyable summer.

Boarders' Corner One of the things that makes Godstowe a special place, is that it elicits a desire from the girls to give of their very best in the classroom. A byproduct of that process is a somewhat detrimental need by some girls to compare themselves academically with their contemporaries.

The boarding team have again discussed at length this term how to ward off this contentious issue, which can unnecessarily pigeon hole girls based solely upon their academic ability…or that they are 'book smart'.

In all boarding houses from September, we shall be using the work of one educational theorist – Howard Gardner – as inspiration for how we are going to enable the girls to develop a more encompassing self image, based upon a wider range of skills and aptitudes.

We are not breaking new ground here. At Wellington College, for example, recognising individual talents has been formal part of the school’s ethos for almost two decades.

It might be an interesting proposition to sit down with your daughters and sons over the summer and ask them to see if they can recognise any of Gardner’s eight ‘intelligences’. This is certainly what we shall be doing with our boarding community in September! Find out more via this link: Multiple Intelligences

Prize Giving On Tuesday 5th July, Main School held their Prize Giving in the marquee. It was wonderful to have the marquee at full capacity and to hear from our guest speaker, Dr Grace Ononiwu CBE. Congratulations to all those that were awarded prizes this year, and remember what Dr Ononiwu said, "I'll be back to check on you".
