Headmistress' Letter Dear Parents, I would like to start by congratulating all of our musicians for such a wonderful spring concert last Friday, I very much enjoyed listening to it on Sunday afternoon. Well done girls, and thank you very much to all of the music teachers for their hard work and dedication to our young performers.
Back at school we have been very busy conducting all the tests for the staff and for the girls in the uppers and fourths. The whole school Is now most definitely ready and waiting for everyone to come back on Monday: we are so excited to see everyone. In the meantime I wish you a happy and relaxing weekend.

The Friends of Godstowe would like to invite all parents to an online event on Zoom on Wednesday 17th March at 8pm - ‘Hello & Introductions: An overview of Friends of Godstowe and introduction to the committee' We have not been able to hold normal events for over 12 months now and normally we would have cake sales, parent talks, FoG coffee mornings, and more to introduce you to our parent community, and have a chat! I know we are all ‘onlined out’ but hopefully you can grab a cup of tea, coffee, beer, wine, .. whatever takes your fancy and join in! Claire Gillett, Head of Lodge , Hannah Smart, Head of Nursery We are really looking forward to seeing everyone back in school next Monday. Congratulations to everyone for their hard work and perseverance during this term, in such unusual circumstances! Remember that Friday 12th March is our wellie walk in aid of the Michael Palin Centre for Stammering, so please bring your wellies that day and try to encourage friends and family to sponsor you! It was lovely to see so many children wearing their book character costumes on Thursday for World Book Day, and we hope everyone enjoyed the book related activities. This week the theme in Nursery has been ‘books’ again. Some of the favourite activities have been Dear Zoo Counting, baking Owl Baby cupcakes and Dinosaur Stomp dancing. It’s been a very busy and active week. The children really enjoyed dressing up on Thursday too. The sound of the week was l for lollipop and we made some lollies using our fine motor skills.
Kindergarten children have been using their powers of imagination to invent aliens and planets this week, as part of their Literacy topic based on the book The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers. Their journey into the Milky Way continued with their project on The Solar System, which has concluded with each of them designing and producing their very own Planet Booklet. The children embraced World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite book characters and then presenting to their class mates, a description of their favourite book and an explanation about why they had chosen it. A fun and busy last week of Virtual Learning but now we are all excited and looking forward to returning to the classroom and seeing each other properly.
Transition have had a dragon focus this week, looking at various stories about dragons in Literacy and working on their descriptive writing. In their Art lesson, they drew pictures of dragons and decorated them in colourful ways. In Geography, we have been finding out different facts about each continent to make our own continent leaflet. We were very impressed with the range of book characters in Transition on Thursday, and we had fun describing book characters and matching characters with their books. We hope everyone enjoyed their chosen activities on Friday.
This week in Beginners we have been learning more about plant growth, and we have been focusing on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We have done some fantastic writing all about the story, describing our favourite characters, and we have been using our creative skills to imagine what our beanstalks might look like if we had some of our own magic beans. Lots of imaginary rainbow sparkly beanstalks made out of marshmallows! In Maths, we have been doing more work on subtraction, using real objects and a number line to help us to find the answers. We also really enjoyed World Book Day this week! It was a lot of fun to dress up as our favourite book characters and tell our friends all about them.
