Claire Gillett, Head of Lodge
Hannah Smart, Head of Nursery
It has been a pleasure to welcome all the children back to Lodge and Nursery this term, and to enjoy the sunny weather. Nursery children have enjoyed making new friends, settling back in and playing lots of friendship games. The theme for the half term will be 'Mythical Creatures', starting this week with 'Fairies'. Our sound of the week next week will be 'b'. It's been a wonderful start to the term in Beginners this week. We have been making the most of the spring sunshine and doing lots of outdoor learning, using our garden area and woodland area. We are looking forward to exploring our new topic this half term and learning all about the minibeasts we can spot outside in our gardens.
We are delighted that the Kindergarten children have returned with such enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. This week we have commenced our Science topic of Plants, with each child planting their own sunflower seed. They were also introduced to the two investigations we shall be carrying out this term: a comparison of the growth of a bulb and a seed and an experiment involving subjecting a seed to different growing conditions, in order to prove that a plant requires water and sunlight. A fun start to the new term!
WEEKLY QUIZ!
Transition children have been settling back in well, enjoying their first swimming and music lessons of term. The Maths topic is Fractions, and we have started by introducing halves and quarters. We will be continuing to revise the 2, 4. 5 and 10 times tables and our first spelling test will be next Friday. Our Science topic this term is 'Animals including humans', and we have started this topic by comparing our heights with our shoe sizes, to see if taller people have bigger feet.
Elite Swimmers Train at Godstowe We were pleased to be able to host Swim England's Talent Team for Elite Swim training during the Easter break, so the pool was used by some amazing young aspiring athletes ahead of their forthcoming competitions.
Perform is offering a Free Trial Session and a special introductory discount of £40 for Godstowe families if they sign up by Saturday 9th May. Parents should quote GODS090520 when they book their free session by going to perform.org.uk/try or calling 020 7255 9120.

In order to successfully tackle climate change, and maintain a healthy planet, changes must happen at many levels – global systemic and societal changes as well as individual behavioural changes.
Above all, we have to bear one thing in mind – every single mouthful of food and every breath of air we take is dependent on a healthy planet. David Attenborough
This week whilst Joe Biden hosts global leaders meeting (virtually) to discuss climate change, Young Climate Warriors are encouraged to learn a little about methane emissions, and the impact of food choices on climate change. Young Climate Warriors are challenged to be adventurous with pulses -‘raiding the kitchen store cupboard’ – to make a plant-based meal using lentils, chickpeas, or dried beans.
