L6 A&ID Retail Interior Project Goda Galdikaite
• Design Brief: With the ever-increasing demand from online shopping, traditional bricks and mortar high street retailers need to find new ways to entice shoppers into their stores. Stores need to become more experience based, providing buyers with a reason to want to shop there. Store interiors should contain more than just racks and shelves of products, shoppers should could be given demos, take part in making, learn and be educated thus establishing a greater brand connection. I wanted to design an interesting homeware store where people would always want to come to when they are out.
Organic Form Style
Organic form in interior design is when spaces are created to look natural and raw like outside in nature. These kinds of spaces are usually in beautiful nature destinations so you can feel like you are connected to the outside even if you are indoors. The main feature of this style is wood, it’s usually a light type of wood so the space looks organic, and it brings natural light. Also, to feel more like you are in a natural environment, there are usually lots of small and big plants around
National Museum Of Qatar Gift Shop
I really like the way this interior looks because of the interesting structure and the material used since it’s in the organic style, which is the theme I am going for for my store. The wood used for the whole structure is what gives off the organic and raw vibe. Also, the way everything is curved gives off a natural feeling since the features of nature aren’t perfectly shaped.
Flight Gallery
The architect of this interior, Zaha Hadid trained first in mathematics before studying architecture, and the work of her practice is strongly informed by ideas about geometry. The curved overhead structure and layout of the gallery represents airflow around the Handley Page aircraft suspended at its centre. The design was driven by equations of airflow used in the aviation industry, which are still an important area of mathematical research.

Primary photos & research
Tree bark is a raw texture which would look great in a homeware store and it fits well with the organic style since its natural and straight from a tree
This is a picture of wood from my fireplace at home, I thought this kind of wood would look good for the shelves or other furniture put in the store like the store counter.
Adding plants to an organic interior would complete the style since they are the main part of nature and organic interiors have big plants this plant that I have taken a picture of in my home.
This is a picture taken of my floorboards at home and thought this kind of wood would look great for the floors in my store as well. Also, this wood connects to the outside by the way It’s shaped like a tree and the simple raw colour shows how natural it is.
First Idea
I thought the idea of having a spiral structure inside of the store would look appealing in addition to it being in the modern and organic style with wooden shelves on the sides for where the homeware products would go, and the spiral would be white. I got this idea from looking at organic interiors and I was seeing a few spiral staircases in them and then I thought it would be interesting to put a large spiral around the inside to attract customers.

Second Idea
For this idea, I got inspiration from another store interior which has an interesting curved side with shelves. For my idea, I thought to make the full interior curved like its shown in my drawing which also gives a cave-like feeling like the Qatar museum gift shop’s interior,

Third Idea
Here I thought of making a geometric structure around this Interior to show off a modern vibe and as shown on the models, it would be wooden to show off the organic style. I got this idea by folding card and adding it in a fascinating way.

Fourth Idea
In this idea, I have thought of putting two curved shelves in the center of the space to make it look engaging and it would draw customers to the products that are being sold. Also, they would be in a natural wood material.

Final design drawings
The final design is a development of the second idea into a more spread out area so there is more places to go to instead of it only going one way. I thought of putting four curved structures spaced away from each other with shelves in between them.

Final Design SketchUp Drawing
I thought the structures would look good if they were made from a bush texture so it could bring in green more to the space. Also, the shelves and counter would be in an orange-like coloured wood as well as that I thought of making the floorboards like the ones in my primary research,
