Congressman Brett Guthrie represents Kentucky’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, and serves on the House Energy and Commerce (E&C) Committee as well as the House Committee on Education and the Workforce for the 113th Congress. Recognized for his proven leadership, he was also appointed to serve as an Assistant Whip within the Republican Conference.

First elected to public office in 1998, Guthrie represented the 32nd District in the Kentucky Senate. Congressman Guthrie attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and later earned a Master’s Degree from Yale University in Public and Private Management.

Brett and his wife Beth have three children, Caroline, Robby and Elizabeth.

New Business of the Year Awards program Chamber seeking nominations The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its 2013 Business of the Year Awards. This new program will replace the Small Business of the Year awards given in previous years by adding new categories, and allowing for more participation from the 900+ members of the chamber.

“This new business awards program was created with the help of the Small Business Committee, and is based on feedback from members about the importance of recognitions like these. We’ve revised it to recognize excellence in innovation,

growth, customer service and community involvement,” said Amy Jackson, President and CEO of the chamber.

The new categories of the chamber Business Awards program include: • Business of the Year (1-10 employees) • Business of the Year (11-50 employees) • Business of the Year (51+ employees) • Emerging Business of the Year • Non-Profit of the Year • Education and Workforce Development Program of the Year

Nominations will be accepted until September 30, 2013, and all nominees will receive a packet with the application the first week of October.

Emerge Owensboro 2014 announced The 2014 class of Emerge Owensboro has been selected after a record-number of applicants for the program. Twenty-six individuals from diverse market segments of the region have been selected to participate in the leadership development program, jointly sponsored by the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Com-

merce and the Economic Development Corporation.

“We were so excited about the pool of applicants we received for the program this year. While we hate to turn people away from the program, it is a great problem to have when you have more applicants than spots in the class,” said Amy Jackson,

President and CEO of the chamber. “We plan for this program to continue for many years, so we hope those not selected this year will be back next year as applicants.”

The class will be introduced at Thursday’s Rooster Booster breakfast, and will begin the monthly class schedule on September 12.

The CYLO group, Connecting Young Leaders of Owensboro, is excited to announce the 5th Annual Lady in Red event. This year, the fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, September 7, 2013 in the RiverPark Center courtyard. The night of dancing, drinks, and good music will begin at 8 pm. Tickets are now available at a cost of $25 per individual or $40 per couple. The event is open to anyone 21 or older.

The annual Lady in Red event is CYLO’s largest fundraiser of the year.
