Community Is Our Middle Name: Celebrating 40 Years Forty years ago, Owensboro had a vision: create a college that would expand opportunity, prepare a skilled workforce and strengthen the entire region. The community rallied behind that vision, and in 1986, Owensboro Community College was established. Since then, OCTC has impacted 94,216 individuals— students who came to us to begin a career, prepare for university transfer, learn a new skill or create a new opportunity for themselves and their families. While much has changed over four decades, one thing hasn’t: community is still at the heart of everything we do. OCTC works alongside employers to prepare the workforce our region needs. We partner with area schools to help students begin college earlier and more affordably. We prepare students to transfer successfully to four-year universities and provide education and training that helps working adults build new skills and advance their careers. That partnership continues to shape our future. From advanced manufacturing and skilled trades to healthcare, business, information technology and university transfer, OCTC continues evolving to meet the changing needs of our students, employers and region. Today, our story includes new facilities, innovative programs and partnerships, and the HealthForce Kentucky Innovation Center—but our mission remains rooted in the same idea that inspired this community 40 years ago: education changes lives and strengthens communities. For 40 years, Owensboro has been part of our name. Community has been at the center of our story. And we’re just getting started.
In 2022, Charlie was elected to serve the citizens of Daviess County as their County Judge/Executive. He served for 12 years (three terms) as the Central Division County Commissioner and prior to that, served 10 years (five terms) over a 12-year period as an Owensboro City Commissioner, four of which were as Mayor Pro Tem. He is a graduate of Brescia University and was a selfemployed CPA with more than 40 years of experience in banking, public accounting, and government. Charlie has been married to his wife, Lisa, for 40 years and together they have three children, Sarah, Theresa, and Daniel and enjoy their three grandchildren – Maddie, Griffin, & Owen. As a social and fiscal conservative, Charlie is a committed friend of the taxpayer and humbled to be your County Judge/Executive.
Rod Kuegel A lifelong resident of Daviess County, he has dedicated his career to agriculture, entrepreneurship, and community leadership. His deep roots in the region began during his youth and continued through his graduation from Daviess County High School in 1971. He attended the University of Kentucky, earning a degree in accounting in 1975. Equipped with a strong business foundation, he returned to his roots in 1975 to work alongside his family and father on the family farm. He started his own farming operation in 1983. His sharp business sense led him to become a successful entrepreneur, having founded three companies that remain in full operation today. Beyond his business venture, he has built an extensive legacy of civic and national service. On a local and regional level, he served as President of the Burley Tobacco Growers Association, leading an organization of 300,000 members. His leadership caught national attention in 2001, when he was appointed by the President of the United States to help formulate a tobacco buyout program designed to assist tobacco communities and retool American agriculture. His governance and financial expertise made him a highly sought-after advisor. Over his career, he has served on several local boards, including the Brescia University Board of Directors, President of Greater Owensboro Economic Development, the Independence Bank Board of Directors, the BB&T Bank Board of Directors and the Owensboro Riverport Board of Directors. At home, he is a devoted family man. He and his wife, Lois, are proud parents of two sons, Clay and Luke, and the doting grandparents of four grandchildren, Carrie, Savanna, Ellie and Brighton. Throughout his career, his fondest memories were from his devotion and commitment to his faith, family and community.
