May 1 - May 7 is National Small Business Week. The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce knows the importance of small businesses in a community, and we are proud that so many of Owensboro’s Small Businesses are our members.

Look for Chamber decals on doors and windows when you approach businesses and organizations. Our 2016 decals say “We believe in Owensboro” and each Small Business that makes the investment to be a part of our community believe in Owensboro, too.

Small business is vital to our regional economy and our everyday life. Small business owners and the persons they employee touch nearly every life

in the Greater Owensboro region in some way or another. They are our neighbors, our family and our friends. They all reinvest in our community, and that makes it only fitting that we invest in their success. Shop small and always try to shop Owensboro first. The Chamber encourages you to pick three local small businesses that you want to see survive in our community and commit to spending money there each month. Ambassador of the Month – Sandy Riley-Miller Hypnosis Institute of Kentucky Sandra Riley-Miller is a graduate of Ottumwa Heights College and Indian Hills Community College, where she majored in business.

Overtime, she was introduced to the possibilities of hypnosis and eventually to the practice of Reiki (a Japanese healing art). As a certified Consulting Hypnotist, she has been practicing in Owensboro for four years, and for one year as a practicing Reiki master.

Sandy has also been very active as a volunteer at Dream Riders of Kentucky for about six years. While there, she worked with handicapped individuals and the horses who served them.

Leadership Owensboro Graduation and Alumni Reception set for May 5 The 2016 Leadership Owensboro class will graduate and host an alumni reception on Thursday, May 5 from 5-7 pm in the Old National Bank Conference Room at the Commerce Center, 200 East Third Street. The 27 participants in the 2016 class, along with any Emerge Owensboro or Leadership Owensboro alumni are invited to attend the free event to meet some of the newest leadership candidates for our community. Leadership Owensboro is a joint program of the Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development

Corporation. The Leadership Owensboro participants have attended monthly sessions since September where they’ve learned about local issues, traveled to Frankfort to meet with state leaders, and learned leadership skills.

The graduation is presented by Western Kentucky University – Owensboro and their Professional MBA programs at WKU. Food, drinks, networking and a short program will be included.

All Emerge and Leadership Owensboro alumni are welcome.
