CHAMBER MATTERS 2020

DEC.

SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES WITH

SHOP OWENSBORO 2020 Shop Owensboro 2020, presented by Independence Bank, kicked off to a busy start on Saturday. 500 bags were handed out to excited shoppers at the Owensboro Convention Center via giant candy canes raised to their car windows, in order to comply with social distancing guidelines. In partnership with Independence Bank, the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce star ted Shop Owensboro as a local version of the nation-wide Shop Small Business Saturday, which takes place the Saturday following Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Shop Owensboro gives small businesses a chance to promote themselves during the busiest shopping time of the year and for shoppers to “keep their money where their heart is.”

Each bag contains a map of participating store locations; coupons and special offers; as well as a BINGO card. Shoppers can collect stamps after each purchase (or receipts from online, delivery, or phone purchases) and return the cards to the Chamber office by Friday, December 11 in order to be entered to win one of two grand prizes - a $250 Visa gift card! Some shoppers also found $25 gift certificates to participating stores hidden inside their bags. This year, Shop Owensboro was expanded from one day to encompass one full week to allow for social distancing and promote safety for businesses and shoppers alike. Many businesses are also offering online ordering, curbside pick-up and other alternative shopping or dining methods to serve more customers

safely and comply with the CDC’s COVID-19 guidelines. Shop Owensboro continues through this Saturday, December 5. Even if you didn’t pick up a bag last Saturday, shoppers are encouraged to support local businesses this holiday season by making purchases online, over the phone, or by curbside pick-up or delivery. Contact individual businesses to see what alternatives to in-person shopping they offer.

THANK YOU TO OUR PARTICIPATING MEMBERS!

Today is Giving Tuesday. 2020 has been a difficult year. Each and every one of us has been affected by the year's events. In this season of Thanksgiving, we think about all the things we are grateful for; the things we hold near and dear to us despite the events of the world. We also think about

ways we can share that gratitude, and give back to our communities. Giving Tuesday was started in 2012. It was created simply as a day that “encourages people to do good.” It is celebrated annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The beauty of this day is that anyone can participate, whether it be individuals or

businesses. And you can participate in any way you choose. You can give of your time, by volunteering in-person or virtually for a cause or non-profit organization. You can give financially to help those in need. You can share your voice, by speaking out for or sharing messages from causes that are important to you. And you can share gratitude, thanking those in your community who have risked their health this year to make sure we still have the services we rely on. Encourage your friends and family to give, too. However you choose to give, be sure to tag @givingtuesday and @gochamber.
