ellow Brangus breeders and friends, As we welcome a new year, I would like to extend my sincere best wishes to each member of the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA). May the year ahead bring you good health, prosperity, and continued success in your operations. The start of a new year is always a time for reflection and renewal, and it is also an opportunity to look forward with optimism and purpose. Thanks to your dedication and commitment, the Brangus breed continues to move forward, gaining strength, recognition, and influence across the beef industry. Our association has always been built on the principle that progress comes through involvement. The relationships we build, the cattle we promote, and the events we support all play a role in shaping the future of Brangus. As we move into the spring season, I want to strongly encourage each of you to be as engaged as possible by attending upcoming spring sales, participating in our meetings in Houston, and supporting Brangus shows throughout the year. Your

presence at these events matters more than you may realize. Spring sales are one of the most important opportunities we have to support one another and showcase the quality of Brangus genetics. These sales represent years of careful planning, selection, and management by fellow members. A full sale barn sends a clear message of confidence and momentum, not only within our membership but also to commercial cattlemen and newcomers considering Brangus for their programs.

Beyond the business aspect, spring sales are a place where friendships are strengthened and new connections are made. Conversations held over sale catalogs and in the pens often lead to shared ideas, new breeding strategies, and lasting partnerships. In addition to spring sales, our meetings in Houston are a critical part of the IBBA calendar. These meetings provide an opportunity for members to come together to discuss the direction of the association, evaluate programs, and plan for the future of the breed. I encourage you to attend if you are able and to take an active role in the discussions. Strong leadership and sound decisions are the result of broad participation and open dialogue. Our presence there reinforces the reputation of Brangus as a progressive, performanceoriented breed that delivers real-world value. When members show up in support of the association and one another, it demonstrates unity and pride, qualities that attract attention and foster growth. Brangus shows are another vital component of our success, and I encourage everyone to attend and support them whenever possible. Shows are a celebration of the breed and an opportunity to highlight the quality and consistency of Brangus cattle. They also serve as an important educational experience, particularly for junior members and young producers. The lessons learned in and around the show ring: responsibility, sportsmanship, and attention to detail, extend far beyond cattle and help shape the future leaders of our industry. Supporting shows is also about supporting people. Whether you are exhibiting cattle, helping organize an event, or simply being present to encourage participants, your involvement makes a difference. A strong turnout reflects positively on the breed and reinforces the sense of community that has always defined Brangus breeders. Growing the Brangus breed requires intentional effort from

all of us. It happens when we support fellow members by attending their sales, when we lend our voices and ideas at meetings, and when we stand behind our youth and exhibitors at shows. Each of these actions contributes to a stronger association and a brighter future.

If you read my column last month, you know we celebrated many victories for the Brangus breed and reflected on what was accomplished by our outstanding team at the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA). I am proud of the progress we’ve made, and I am even more excited to tell you that 2026 will be no different. We have many new ideas and plans in place that are designed specifically for you—the breeder—to make life easier, more efficient, and more enjoyable in the purebred business. We begin the year with an important addition to our team. I am pleased to announce that Cord Weinheimer has joined IBBA as our new Director of Field Services. Welcome Cord Weinheimer, IBBA's Director of Field Staff, Genetics, and Advertising

s we step into a new year, I am very thankful for the opportunity to introduce myself to the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA) as the new Director of Field

Staff, Genetics, and Advertising. As I begin this next chapter, I am excited about the work ahead and the opportunity to support a breed and membership I hold in great respect. I am a sixth-generation rancher from the Texas Hill Country, raised in Stonewall, Texas, on a diverse operation that focuses on registered Hereford seedstock and manages a large commercial cow herd across Texas and New Mexico. I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2016 with a degree in animal science, where I competed on the 2015 Livestock Judging Team and was an active member of the Saddle and Sirloin Club. My background set a foundation for management opportunities post-graduation with both Rolke Ranch and Stalwart Ranch, where I gained firsthand knowledge on both the commercial and registered sides of the Brangus breed. With that, I gained a tremendous amount of respect for the breed and what it has to offer to the industry. These experiences with Brangus cattle played a meaningful role in my professional background, and it is rewarding to now serve the breed in this capacity. The collective years of experience I bring have helped shape my understanding of the practical challenges breeders face and the importance of genetics, sound management, and reliable information in building a successful operation. For the past three years, I served as the Southwest Regional Manager for the American Hereford Association (AHA), where my focus centered on developing advertising opportunities to strengthen membership engagement and regional revenue, building strong relationships with breeders, and supporting those members at shows and sales. That experience reinforced the importance of being present, listening intently, and providing value that meets producers where they are. I truly cherished the relationships and impact I made at AHA, and I look forward to carrying those experiences into my new role. I’m excited to pick up where Kyle left off in this role with IBBA. I will continue his focus on strengthening membership relations, driving growth and direction in our genetic programs, and continuing to communicate the value of the Brangus breed. I look forward to helping facilitate IBBA’s genetic and performance programs, supporting data-driven decision making, and working alongside staff and members to ensure these tools continue to evolve in ways that serve real-world operations. My goal at IBBA is to continue to grow the footprint of the Brangus breed in the beef industry. I want to drive advertising sales to new heights, create more exposure for the breed nationally, and educate cattlemen across the nation on the true value of Brangus. The new year brings fresh opportunities, and I see this role as a chance to help IBBA continue moving forward with purpose. I am eager and prepared to spend time with members across the country, listen to your ideas, and work together to strengthen the association and the breed. Thank you for the warm welcome, and I look forward to the conversations and progress that lie ahead in 2026 and beyond.

Setting the Stage for the Year Ahead

Kicking off 2026 with a full show season, meaningful gatherings, and momentum for the breed. BY LORI EDWARDS-DUNKERLY, IBBA DIRECTOR OF EVENTS AND EDUCATION

hat wonderful blessings the new year brings. A fresh slate, a renewed spark for our passions, and endless possibilities for what’s to come. I hope each of you are as eager about what 2026 will bring for the Brangus breed as I am. From exciting new additions to the National Junior Brangus Show to the return of an annual gathering at Brangus Days, the year ahead is shaping up to be one full of opportunity, connection, and progress. As the calendar turns, we also jump right into winter show season. Many of you are already preparing for the months ahead as we kick things off at Cattlemen’s Congress, followed by Fort Worth, the Florida State Fair, San Antonio, leading up to our International Show at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. These events play an important role in showcasing Brangus cattle, Brangus programs, and the people behind them. The 2026 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is especially significant, as it serves as IBBA’s International Show and the site of our annual meetings, committee discussions, and leadership transitions. It is a time when our membership comes together to reflect, make decisions, and set direction for the future of the association. With that in mind, we are making a few thoughtful adjustments this year to enhance the experience for everyone attending. All IBBA meetings, including committee meetings, the Board of Directors meeting, and the General Membership meeting, will be held offsite at our host hotel. This will also be the location of the National Brangus Sale and our International Brangus Reception. Holding these events together at the host hotel allows members to focus on meaningful conversations, collaboration, and the business of the association in an easily accessible environment. At the same time, we know the International Show remains a

highlight for many to showcase their cattle. A shuttle will run continuously between the host hotel and NRG throughout the day Thursday, March 5. We encourage all members to head to the orange seats surrounding the ring at NRG to watch some of the highest caliber Brangus show cattle exhibit on the green shavings. Be sure to check out the full Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo schedule and hotel room block information, found on pages 28-29.. As always, our goal is to create an atmosphere that encourages participation from all corners of our membership. The International Show week about conversation, collaboration, and the shared commitment we all have to the Brangus breed. I hope you will make plans to join us in Houston, take part in the programs, and enjoy time with fellow Brangus breeders as we begin another exciting year together.

This year’s IBA Scholarship Applications are due by April 1, 2026. Presented below is a short summary of the IBA Scholarship Awards: • Underclassman Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to graduating high school seniors who show evidence of excellence in scholastic and leadership endeavors. • Upperclassmen Scholarship This scholarship is given to a college student to assist in the continuation of his or her education. The winner of this award must show evidence of ongoing excellence in scholastic and leadership endeavors. • Alternative Education Scholarship This award is given to an IJBBA member who has demonstrated dedication in working with and promoting Brangus cattle and will be pursuing a career in agriculture and/or ranching at a community college or vocational school. • Memorial Scholarships IBA also facilitates a variety of memorial scholarships created in memory of loved ones by their family and friends. Since 1979, the IBA has awarded over $581,000 in scholarships to support eligible Brangus juniors in their pursuit of higher education.
