Building on a Remarkable Sale Season and Elevating Brangus for the Future
A Letter from the President
BY GRADY GREEN, IBBA PRESIDENT
Fellow Brangus breeders,
As we near the end of another fall sale season, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for the dedication, professionalism, and passion you continue to pour into this breed. This year’s results speak volumes, not only about the demand for Brangus genetics, but also about the collective commitment of our membership to produce cattle that meet the evolving needs of our commercial customers. It is no exaggeration to say that this has been one of the strongest sale seasons in recent memory. Across the country, we witnessed exceptional averages on both breeding bulls and replacement females. Commercial cattlemen are speaking loudly with their checkbooks, and the message is clear: Brangus genetics are delivering performance, adaptability, and longevity in ways that few other breeds can match. Buyers are searching for predictability, maternal strength, heat tolerance, and carcass quality, and they are finding these traits consistently within our breed. That consistency is not an accident. It is the
result of years of intentional selection, thoughtful mating decisions, and a shared vision for what Brangus cattle should represent.
“Brangus genetics are delivering performance, adaptability, and longevity in ways that few other breeds can match.”
— GRADY GREEN
Our bulls led the charge this year, with numerous programs reporting recordsetting averages. What stands out most is the broad-based demand. It isn’t confined to one region, one marketing method, or one style of cattle. Whether sold through private treaty, video auctions, or production sales, Brangus bulls commanded strong attention from seedstock and commercial buyers alike. Ranchers want bulls that can work hard, thrive in every environment, and deliver calves

that smash the scales. Brangus bulls are doing just that, and the market has rewarded it.
Equally encouraging has been the surge in demand for replacement heifers. Many of you reported aggressive bidding on bred heifers, open heifers, and pairs, some reaching levels that exceeded expectations by a wide margin. The confidence that commercial ranchers place in Brangus females is one of our breed’s greatest assets. Their fertility, mothering ability, efficiency, and adaptability continue to set them apart. As drought recovery continues in several regions and herd rebuilding efforts gain momentum, Brangus females are more valuable than ever. They are the kind of females that anchor programs for years, and buyers know it.
While it is important to celebrate this success, it is equally important that we not become complacent. Strong markets are both a reward for past efforts and a call to action for the future. Now is not the time to slow down, now is the time to push the envelope even further. The demand we are experiencing should inspire

us to raise our standards, challenge our assumptions, and continue shaping the next generation of Brangus cattle with purpose and precision.
“Buyers are searching for predictability, maternal strength, heat tolerance, and carcass quality, and they are finding these traits consistently within our breed.”
— GRADY GREEN
Our responsibility as breeders is to look beyond today’s sale prices and toward the long-term trajectory of the breed. That means staying committed to data collection, performance measurement, and genetic improvement. It means embracing the technologies like genomic tools, efficiency testing, carcass evaluation, all of which will help us make sound decisions. It means striving for structural integrity, docility, fertility, and functional efficiency in every mating decision. And it means remembering that our commercial customers depend on us to provide cattle that help their operations be profitable, resilient, and sustainable.
We have a tremendous opportunity right now. The cattle industry is in a phase of rebuilding, and ranchers are actively searching for genetics that can solve challenges related to climate, labor, input costs, and marketing. Brangus cattle are uniquely positioned to answer those challenges. But to maintain and strengthen that position, we must remain relentless in our pursuit of improvement. Bigger and better is not simply a slogan; it is a responsibility we carry on behalf of every breeder who came before us and every breeder who will follow.
As your president, I am proud of what we have achieved together, and I am even more excited about what lies ahead. The momentum behind this breed is real. The world is watching the progress we are making. And every decision you make on your ranch contributes to the direction of the entire Brangus breed.
Thank you for your continued leadership, your trust, and your unwavering commitment to producing the very best Brangus cattle possible. Let’s use this successful sale season not as a destination, but as a launching point. Together, we will continue building a breed that is not only bigger and better, but one that sets the standard for excellence in the beef industry.
— Grady Green IBBA President

AA Season of Gratitude & Growth
BY RICK COZZITORTO, IBBA EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
s we wrap up another incredible year for the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA), it is fitting that this December column be one filled with gratitude. The blessings of 2025 are worth celebrating.
Despite fewer THR enrollments, the strong cattle market has positioned our members to succeed like never before. Brangus breeders are cashing in on a historic market, with bull sale averages surpassing $10,000 and heifers increasing more than $5,000 in value year over year. The industry is recognizing—more than ever—the value of the Brangus cow.
This year was also a monumental step forward in how we promote our breed. We launched a state-of-the-art IBBA website, redesigned The Brangus Journal into an elite publication, and executed a 20-state digital marketing campaign aimed directly at commercial bull and female buyers. In just one month, that campaign reached over 480,000 potential customers—putting Brangus in front of more eyes than ever before.
On the Foundation front, our beef value research continues to shine. Another round of steers was harvested this year with outstanding results, and the Foundation set a new revenue record, surpassing $200,000. Our junior program is thriving once again fully in-house, and we continue to see impressive momentum from our future leaders.
Another major accomplishment this year was the sale of the IBBA office building in San Antonio and our relocation to College Station. We are now operating in a smaller, more efficient, and more cost-effective space in a high-visibility community that is ideal for growth. This move positions us perfectly as we prepare for our 2026 Convention—right here in College Station, Texas, July 24–26. Mark your calendars now. You will not want to miss this landmark event for our breed.
None of these achievements would have been possible without strong leadership at every level. Our board of directors put in countless hours to move this breed forward, and we are seeing the results of their vision. I also want to recognize our remarkable staff. The number of compliments I’ve received about our improved service speaks volumes about their dedication and talent.
You should be proud of your team, I certainly am.
Finally, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my family. They live and breathe this association alongside me, giving their time and ideas to help elevate this organization every day. They are truly part of Team Brangus, and I am blessed by their support.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve this great association. With a record-setting year behind us and even bigger opportunities ahead, I believe the best is yet to come. May this Christmas season remind us of our blessings, renew our purpose, and strengthen our faith in what lies ahead.
From my family to yours—Merry Christmas, and God bless the Brangus breed.

Peru’s International Brangus Conference
U.S. and Peruvian leaders unite to strengthen genetics, improve production, and spark a renewed vision for the country’s beef industry.
BY APRIL VILLARREAL, IBBA INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE VICE CHAIR
Brangus is becoming a hot topic in Peru! As the Brangus breed grows worldwide, countries such as Peru are taking the opportunity to expand and better their beef industry. Through the support of the U.S. Livestock Genetics Export (USLGE), Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), and the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA), International Committee Chairman, Garrett Thomas; IBBA’s International Liaison and Director of Genomics and Research, Macee Wagner; IBBA’s Director of Field and Services and Strategic Projects, Kyle Caldwell; IBBA Board of Director & Brangus breeder, owner of Champions Valley, Gary Adamek, and I were invited by the Asociación Peruana De Criadores Brangus “Brangus Breeders Association of Peru” (APC) to attend the I Congreso Internacional Brangus Peru 2025 “First International Brangus Congress Peru 2025” this July.
Luis Riquelme, the APC President, hosted the first International Brangus Congress conference in Peru at the Faculty of Zootechnics - UNALM (National Agrarian University La Molina) with the main goal to start the conversation to produce better beef to export and strengthen the livestock sector. Upon arrival, the environment was filled with excitement and opportunity to learn. The event had sponsor booths from knives to feed to vaccinations, a delicious ice cream stand, and an area where they cooked their Peruvian beef. Many representatives from other countries such as Argentina, Paraguay, Colombia, Brazil, USA, and more attended this congress to present and have captivating discussions about the beef industry and the Brangus breed during the week. During opening ceremonies with the Peruvian government delegation, Chairman Garrett Thomas presented Luis with a recognition silver platter for hosting their inaugural event and founding of their organization. We continued our day with multiple speakers and different topics of the industry such as genetics, pasture management, herd health, Peruvian beef goals, and more. Here they presented a fact that shocked all five of us: in 2024 Peru exported zero beef. This was a wakeup call to gain pride in their country as beef producers.
The next day, our friend, driver, and Peruvian Brangus breeder, Rodolfo Jimenez, took the five of us to the Asociacion Nacional De Productores De Carne Bovina's
“National Association of Beef Producers” grow yard and finishing yard. We started at the grow yard where we saw animals from weaning to yearlings that were fed mixed rations to prepare them to go to the finishing yard. We got to see the hand-mixing of the rations, sale arena where at times they have rodeos, and their promotion of AI genetics. This is where we learned that in Peru, they historically want intact bulls rather than steers for their beef production. Rodolfo explained that they are very keen on having lean beef on the outer side of their beef, even to the extent of no marbling. They consider white = fat = no good. While they have good Peruvian beef dishes, they serve beef in different stews rather than premium steaks which tend to be imported from Brazil. After, we went to the finishing yard/ feedlot named Explosiva which follows the ideal of either retaining ownership or selling the animals to the feedyard. Here we learned the history of the cattle breeds introduced in Peru. It started with Criollo, as their national breed, which are hardy cows that can withstand diseases, but do not produce quality beef. Then, they introduced the Braunvieh for the duality of milk and beef production. Then, the Charolais breed was brought to add more pounds because pounds equals money. As a hail mary, they decided to bring Angus into Peru, but while the beef was better, the cattle were not surviving the extreme differences of environment. So that is when the breeders started on the Brangus breed and even their government is trying to help push this breed to help them meet their beef goals. In the future, the owner of Explosiva plans to add more uniformity, better selection, and require age and weights. That way he can improve genetics and offer premium beef.
Later that night, we attended a dinner with a group named Accexxo, a company working on a vertical integration beef production facility that is collaborating with local government officials who also attended the dinner. We shared with this our gratitude for inviting us to dinner and exchanged ideas of how to be able to help them with this project. We also took this opportunity to discuss the qualities of Brangus, why quality beef is important, and represent U.S. genetics around the table with pictures to demonstrate the U.S. ideals.
The next day was exciting as Garrett, Macee, and Kyle presented their presentations at the congress. Garrett

started the U.S. presentations in the morning with the topic of “The Lasting Impact of your Genetic Decisions: How one bull impacts your whole herd?”. He spoke of the importance of choosing leading genetics and how it can take a herd to a whole different level. Then in the afternoon, Kyle spoke about the “Innovation & Sustainability in Brangus Breeding: The Future of the Breed in Global Livestock Farming”; while presenting, he spoke on what the IBBA is currently doing with projects such as the Brangus Value Project (BVP) data and how the IBBA plans to use this data to help and improve that breed. Finally, Macee spoke about “Genomics & Profitability in Beef Production: Different Genetic Tools to Drive Economic Returns”, and this sparked several questions between breeders on how genetics can help you make better financial decisions as a breeder and produce money to sustain itself. At the end of the day, they had an hour panel where they had to answer audience questions which allowed for much discussion for where the breed is going. We concluded the day with local government officials that included livestock specialists from the ministry to speak about the current beef/cattle market and what we as IBBA in the U.S. can help bring to the table in being able to help to obtain their goals of increasing national beef demand and hopefully be able to export beef to China.
Earlier in the week, Rodolfo informed us of a couple of obstacles, both physical and cultural, that downplay a lot of their push. First, he said that there are four steps in the beef industry cycle in Peru: breeder, backgrounder who buys the cattle from the breeder and then sells animals to a feedlot located in Lima, where then the feedlot sells it to a slaughterhouse and directly in the market. Here there is a big obstacle for breeders to own their own cattle as they are fed and processed or even be able to sell their own cattle with the “middle-men”. Another obstacle, and probably one of the biggest obstacles we got to see on our drive through Lima, is the distance. Most breeders have their
cattle in the jungle, which is on the opposite side of country through the mountain range. While cattle are crossing the mountain range, they find themselves having issues with hypoxia in cattle or more commonly known as Brisket disease. It is a struggle to be able to avoid this and there is hardly anything they can do for prevention. Thirdly, when people go buy beef, they go into the “open market” which is a full “street-market” style where they have everything from jewelry to clothes, to dishware and furniture, to fruits and vegatables, to access to a local butcher who sells fresh chicken, fish, and beef, instead of going to a regular grocery store where they have packaged beef and produce. The owner of Accexxo said that 80% of their animals are taken to the slaughterhouses to be taken to the open market, while only 20% are taken to the grocery stores. Socially, people are more accustomed to buying at an open market rather than at a grocery store.
With not only having low Peruvian interest in eating their own national beef, but also adding a zero demand beef exports market, it can be very discouraging to the Peruvian beef breeders and industry if they do not do something about it. The country of Peru has a long way to go to not only educate their breeders about better productions methods but also teach their consumers what is quality beef. Education will be the way they can create a demand for quality beef and push this demand all the way through the supple chain back to the breeders. I think there is a long road ahead for Peru, but I see great potential for the Brangus breed to thrive in Peru and help them achieve their goals.
Thank you to APC Brangus, especially Luis and Rodolfo, for being such gracious hosts and allowing the IBBA the great opportunity to speak about the Brangus breed at such a momentous event. Another thank you to both the USLGE for the MAP funds and TDA grant funds that make trips like this possible for our International Committee.

International Brangus Breeders Foundation sets new standard
Unprecedented support from breeders and partners drives more than $91,000 toward the Foundation’s mission.
BY BRILEY RICHARD, IBBA DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS
The International Brangus Breeders Foundation (IBBF) capped off a record-breaking year with a unique opportunity to advance its mission of fueling research advancements, educational programs, and breed promotion. Thanks to the generous support garnered through a fundraiser hosted in conjunction with the GENEPLUS at Chimney Rock Sale, the IBBF raised over $91,000 to fund research, programs and education for the Brangus breed.
Throughout the year, the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA) participated in numerous sales, adding fundraising opportunities through participating breeders’ production sales. This format provided a larger audience and helped the Foundation reach new contributors invested in strengthening the Brangus breed.
“This overwhelming support is both humbling and energizing,” says Rick Cozzitorto, IBBA executive vice president. “It’s a powerful affirmation of Brangus breeders’ commitment to innovation and long-term growth.”
The success of this effort marks a first for the Foundation, setting a new benchmark for both dollars raised and bidder engagement. It reflects the collective commitment of breeders, sale hosts, and industry partners who rallied behind a shared vision for strengthening the Brangus breed, demonstrating their dedication to long-term progress.
The IBBF supports various initiatives, including research, programs, and promotion. To learn more about the IBBF, visit www.gobrangus.com/about/international-brangus-breeders-foundation/.

BStepping Into Service
A vision for the future.
BY SAVANNAH HANSON, IJBBA PRESIDENT
rangus. A breed that has fulfilled me, fueled my passion, and changed my life. Since 2020, I have been a member of the International Junior Brangus Breeders Association (IJBBA)—a group that provides personal growth, educational opportunities, and leadership development in and out of the show ring. As a 12-year-old girl, I had no idea how much this organization would impact my life. It has truly shaped me into who I am, and I can proudly attribute Brangus for giving me the firm foundation to flourish as a woman in Agriculture.
My name is Savannah Hanson, and I am the 18-yearold daughter of Brady and Richelle Hanson from Liberty, Texas. As a Freshman at Texas A&M University, I am studying agricultural economics with a focus on rural entrepreneurship. Aside from Brangus, I am involved in numerous organizations, serving as a member of the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Freshman Experience Group (COALS FX), Agriculture Community and Economics, and the Saddle and Sirloin Club. Recently, I attended the Agriculture Future of America (AFA) Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Over the years, I've been immensely blessed to have the opportunity to serve in numerous leadership capacities within the Brangus breed. On the state level, I currently serve as the Texas Junior Brangus Breeders Association (TJBBA) president, previously serving in roles such as reporter, secretary, and vice president. Within the IJBBA, I have served as a director, the International Brangus Queen, and secretary, and have the incredible honor of serving as your newly elected IJBBA president.
My motivation to serve this breed is the ability to give back to an organization that has given so much to me. The IJBBA has empowered me to become a better version of myself each day, and I feel like it is essential for young people to be involved in an organization that makes them feel this way. Because of Brangus, I've grown as a leader, gained opportunities for personal development, and created memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. As president, I want to make sure that these same experiences that I had are available to current and future juniors so they can reap
the life-changing benefits of the IJBBA that I am blessed to experience.
One of my goals as IJBBA president is to increase opportunities for our members to learn about the production side of the Brangus breed. Sure, the show ring brings immense benefit to our junior members, but I also think there is an opportunity within our association to learn about the production industry, which holds just as much importance in the beef cattle sector. The way that the IJBBA is bringing this goal to life is through the inaugural NJBS Pen of 2 Heifer Show, which will take place for the first time at the 2026 National Junior Brangus Show. Stay tuned for more information on this event!
The talented members of the IJBBA make me excited to serve the breed in this capacity. From the Florida coasts, the Oklahoma plains, the Louisiana marshes, the great state of Texas—and everywhere in between, our members possess so many amazing qualities that make the IJBBA incredibly special. I've often been told, "It's the people that make the place," and that couldn't be truer in the Brangus breed. No matter where my life takes me, I know that my Brangus family will always be there for me, and I find that incredibly special. Our junior program has so many talented, intelligent leaders who each bring good to the table. As our breed evolves and grows, I am confident that we will be in good hands because of the passion, heart, and integrity of our junior members.
It's the honor of a lifetime to serve as the IJBBA president. This organization means the world to me because of the blessings it has bestowed on my life, and I am dedicated to leading it toward consistent growth and evolution. Esther 4:14 explains, "You were made for such a time as this," and I think that holds so much truth for each IJBBA member and Brangus breeder. There is a place for all in this incredible breed association, and I am dedicated to helping others find their "Why" in pursuing the Brangus breed. Thank you to my family, every Brangus breeder, my fellow junior members, and the good Lord for making this possible. Go Brangus, and may God bless you all!

brangus vigor sale market report
BY KYLE CALDWELL, IBBA DIRECTOR OF FIELD SERVICES AND STRATEGIC PROJECTS
On November 11, Brangus breeders from three states came together at East Texas Livestock Market (ETLM) in Crockett, Texas to participate in the first Brangus Vigor special sale ahead of ETLM’s monthly preconditioned calf sale. The sale was well attended by both sellers and buyers alike. With over 3,000 head of total cattle traded that day, 129 of which were Brangus Vigor-verified calves, snatched up by 23 different order buyers looking to fill their pens.
For many years, a common complaint of selling bos indicus-influenced calves were that they consistently sold for slightly less than calves of an identical weight, frame score, condition, and lot size simply because they were bos indicus influenced. Watching the sale and seeing the fervor in which these buyers were chasing after the Brangus Vigor calves, I can confirm that is no longer true. This proves that producers who do all the right things—weaning and vaccinating their calves, using quality genetics, and participating in value-added programs—will garner a premium no matter what breed of cattle they are selling. No “eared discount” was found here.
The Brangus Vigor program combines many attributes that buyers further down the supply chain desire, namely weaned and vaccinated calves, with the added value of age and source verification, and Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification, while setting your genuine Brangus genetics apart from generic earedcrossbred pretenders. Steers on the Brangus Vigor program netted an additional $500 per head on average compared to steers selling in the same sale on the same day from unknown backgrounds.
This was a great first step for the Brangus Vigor program and as we look forward into the spring the full intention would be to expand the Brangus Vigor program to other sale barns to continue providing support to cattlemen that are unable to put together lot loads of cattle. For more information on the Brangus Vigor program, reach out to Kyle Caldwell at kcaldwell@gobrangus.com.

Town Creek Farm Sale Draws Big Crowd, Makes History
BY JOY REZNICEK, TOWN CREEK FARM
On Saturday, October 18, 2025, the heart of the cattle industry came alive near West Point, MS. Town Creek Farms hosted an impactful and historymaking event that showcased the exceptional quality and genetic advancements of their program. A full-house gathering attracted new and repeat buyers and bidders from nine states, who joined in the bidding action.
As the gavel landed on the closing lot, 119 Brangus and Ultrablack Bulls averaged a Town Creek Farms record of $10,063, and 172 Brangus Commercial Bred Females averaged an impressive $4,736. The sale grossed $2,019,650. Commercial cattlemen, who bought 99 percent of the bull offering, strongly endorsed the functional set of bulls.
“Our 10-year quest for Breeding Up to Brangus was created out of our customers’ need for new Brangus genetics, heterosis, and more Bos-indicus blood in their cattle. Breeding Up to Brangus is a long process, and we are excited that 15 firstgeneration bulls averaged $13,350. This has been a highly rewarding project for Town Creek Farms,” says Joy Reznicek of Town Creek Farm.
Lot 2, selling for $25,000, topped the bull sale. Tanner Farms, Ellisville, MS, purchased TCF Gideon 470EL3, a first-generation bull that creates an opportunity for a paradigm shift in any breeding program. Gideon is in the top 1% of the breed for CED and IMF and also in the top 10% of the breed for REA. This “real deal” bull generated a lot of bidding activity on sale day.
Long-time customer and commercial female consignor, Lowell Dollar of Dollar Farms, Bainbridge, GA, took home the second high-selling bull for $23,500.
Lot 73 TCF Amaze Me 7702M2 brings in the first-ever US bloodlines with a 5/8-3/8 Brangus bull. 7702M2 is a first-generation black-red haircoat carrier. An outcross to everything in the Brangus breed, he is heifer safe, user-friendly, and in the top 1% of the breed for IMF.
The third high-selling bull will now call St. Francisville, LA, home. Randy Walden, South Gate Farms, paid $18,000 for Lot 113, TCF Rapid Reward 241M17. This bull is where power and fertility come together. A Rapid Reward 145E6 son out of a cow family known for fertility, he will sire daughters with great udders and lots of milk.
Lot 21, TCF Rapid Reward 4861L25 slipped into the fourth high-selling slot at $15,000. Thirty-year customers and bull production partners, Lynn and Dana White of Black River Brangus, Monterey, LA, made the buy. Another Rapid Reward 145E6 AI son
that weighed in at 1270 pounds at yearling and has a big REA measurement of 15.07.
“Best female sale ever,” is the way to recap the Town Creek Farm Commercial Female Sale. The multigenerational, genetically tracked heifers generated strong interest in pens before selling and in the ring on sale day. These Town Creek Farm customer-owned heifers were offered by River Oaks Farm, Searcy, AR, 25-year consignor; CP Bar Ranch, Holcomb, MS, 26-year consignor; 22-year consignor, Megehee Cattle Company, Macon, MS; along with 17-year consignor, Montgomery Farms, Moulton, AL. Other consigners included B&B Farm, Linden, AL, a 13-year consignor; Longino Ranch, Sidell, FL, a 11-year consignor; Lowell Dollar Farms, Bainbridge, GA, a nine-year consignor; and fourth-year consignor, Spur W Cattle Company of Preston, MS. Two first-year consignors were Eaves Farm, Preston, MS and Riverview Farms, LLC, Tuscaloosa, AL.
These sale heifers carried superior genetic traits aimed at enhancing productivity and sustainability in livestock operations. Buyers were able to obtain detailed records about each heifer's lineage, health status, and performance metrics, ensuring they made informed decisions.
River Oaks Farms' pens sold first, confidently leading the market. Buyer Langmo Family Ranch, Maitland, FL, took the first two River Oaks pens of five at a staggering price of $5,900 apiece. River Oaks later sold a third pen for $5,900. This group of five sold to Moore Land & Cattle Co, Windomere, FL. Megehee Cattle Co. consigned a pen of four, which sold to John Paul Johns Farms, Jonesboro, LA, for $5,800 each.
Volume buyers included Langmo Family Ranch, Ventura Ranch in Lake Panasoffkee, FL, and Lazy S Ranch owned by Marty Sanders in Aliceville, AL.
Doak Lambert, Decatur, Texas, was the auctioneer.
As the sun set over the landscapes of West Point, Town Creek Farms reaffirmed its role as a leader in the cattle industry. “We sincerely thank our loyal customers for their continued support of our genetics over the years. It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve you. We cherish the relationships we’ve formed,” says Milton and Joy Sundbeck.
This event was not just a showcase; it was a celebration of Town Creek Farm's future, as they passed on the Town Creek Farms flag to the capable and knowledgeable group at Fenco Farms. With every handshake and shared story, the power of this transition took center stage, promising a brighter, more prosperous future for all involved in this industry. Though its time in West Point has come to an end, Town Creek Farms is excited for new beginnings with Fenco Farms in Florida.
