G+ DROVER G+ DROVER 404N23
Sired by the legendary Trail Boss 30B3, Drover combines one of the breed’s most proven sire lines with an outstanding maternal pedigree. His dam, SF Miss Brickhouse 404F5, has already established herself as an elite donor, while his maternal granddam, 404A, was a cornerstone donor female that later sold for $65,000. Beyond his exceptional genetics, Drover offers the complete package in phenotype and performance—length, muscle, depth, structural correctness, and impressive growth, posting a 793-pound weaning weight, 1,272-pound yearling weight, and 16.5-square-inch ribeye area. As a R# bull, we believe Drover has the pedigree, performance, and phenotype to produce the high-quality cattle and sought-after females our customers demand.

THE ROAD TO REBUILD
THE ROAD TO REBUILD
Record cattle prices continue to signal expansion, but rebuilding the U.S. beef herd will require more heifers, more time and tighter supplies in the short term. BY BRILEY RICHARD FRANK, IBBA DIRECTOR OF MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS Record cattle prices. Strong beef demand. A shrinking cow herd. The current cattle market presents quite the contradiction. Producers have more incentive than ever to rebuild the U.S. beef herd, yet the industry continues to operate with historically tight inventories. Derrell Peel, Ph.D., professor of agricultural economics at Oklahoma State University, explored the forces behind the current cattle cycle during the 2026 Beef Improvement Federation Symposium. His presentation, “Beef Sector Economics: Supply-Side
pounds per animal. Steer carcass weights increased approximately 50 pounds during 2024 and 2025, with additional gains during 2026 at the time of Peel’s presentation. Genetics and management have driven part of the long-term increase in carcass weight. Market conditions also encourage producers to add pounds when cattle supplies tighten. Yet more pounds do not always equal more valuable beef. Peel noted recent increases in carcass weight
Inventories and Growth Opportunities,” focused on where the industry stands today and what it will take to grow. The numbers paint a stark picture. The U.S. cattle inventory sits at its smallest level since 1951. The beef cow herd has fallen to its lowest point since 1961, while the 2025 calf crop marked the smallest since 1941. The industry spent years working through contraction and now, the market continues to send signals toward expansion. The nation’s cow herd, however, cannot be rebuilt overnight.
FEWER CATTLE, MORE BEEF The current cattle cycle began with a calf crop peak in 2018. Since then, it has declined for eight consecutive years. The shrinking supply forced every sector of the beef industry to adjust. Feedyards have maintained relatively full inventories despite fewer feeder cattle entering the system. Slower turnover and heavier carcass weights have helped offset declining cattle numbers. “Feedlot inventory, of course, is just a snapshot,” Peel said. “It’s a stock number. It’s what you see at a point in time. It doesn’t tell you about the flow through that feedlot.” Placements and marketings provide a clearer

COWS DON'T HAVE LITTERS. WE HAVE TO MAKE A CHOICE.

A SLOW ROAD TO EXPANSION Historical cattle cycles provide a roadmap for the next phase of the industry. Cow slaughter must fall, and heifer retention must increase. The combination allows the beef cow herd to grow. Female slaughter currently remains above the long-term level associated with herd expansion. Historical data shows the industry generally begins expanding after the female slaughter ratio falls below approximately 47%. During the previous four cattle cycles, the industry remained below that threshold anywhere f rom 14 to 49 months. Peel estimated the current industry could need another six to eight months of continued movement toward lower female slaughter before herd expansion begins. EVENTS & EDUCATION
Growing leaders Building the Future
BY LORI EDWARDS-DUNKERLEY, IBBA DIRECTOR OF EVENTS AND EDUCATION
A
s I reflect on the past few months, one word continues to come to mind –– momentum. Across every event and program, we've witnessed young people stepping into leadership roles, building meaningful relationships, and investing in the future of the Brangus breed. This spring, our IJBBA Junior Board traveled to Tampa, Florida, to attend the 2026 Youth Beef Industry Congress. While the experience is always an opportunity to connect with other junior boards from across the beef industry, it also serves as an important time for our board to grow as individuals and as a team. Throughout the week, our directors participated in leadership development, industry tours, and roundtable discussions that encouraged them to think beyond the boundaries of their own organizations. They also spent dedicated time planning and preparing for the 2026 National Junior Brangus Show, ensuring they were ready to welcome exhibitors from across the country. Experiences like YBIC continue to broaden perspectives, strengthen leadership skills, and remind our juniors that they are part of something much larger than themselves. The highlight of our summer was undoubtedly the 2026 National Junior Brangus Show – The Brangus Summer Bash in Chickasha, Oklahoma. More than 200 junior exhibitors and over 500 junior show entries came together for an unforgettable week filled with competition, education, fellowship, and fun. While championships are certainly celebrated, the true success of National Junior Brangus Show week lies in the growth that happens outside the backdrop photos. Throughout the week, juniors participated in educational contests, leadership opportunities, networking events, and activities designed to develop skills that will serve them well beyond the show ring. One of the most rewarding moments of the week was celebrating our exhibitors' achievements with the scholarship presentations. The IJBBA Legacy Foundation proudly awarded $11,500 in scholarships in the Supreme Female and Bull Scholarship drive, while the International Brangus Auxiliary (IBA) awarded more than $22,000 in scholarships. Since 1979, the Auxiliary has invested more than $603,000 into the education of Brangus youth/ That is a remarkable testament to the industry's commitment to the next generation.
24
AUGUST 2026 BRANGUS JOURNAL
The National Junior Brangus Show week also marked an important transition in leadership. We had the privilege of recognizing our retiring Junior Board members for their dedication and service while welcoming the 2026–2027 Junior Board. Their enthusiasm, ideas, and commitment leave us excited for the year ahead. By the time this issue reaches your mailbox, Brangus Days will have concluded, and we hope to have celebrated another successful Legacy Female sale. This year's female, generously donated by Draggin' M Ranch, represents far more than a fundraising opportunity. Every dollar raised through the Legacy Female program directly supports the IJBBA Legacy Foundation, helping provide scholarships, educational experiences, leadership development, and future opportunities for Brangus youth. The continued generosity of our breeders and supporters makes these life-changing programs possible. Looking ahead, the future of the IJBBA has never been brighter. In 2027, we are excited to host the next IJBBA Legacy Conference, bringing together Brangus youth from across the country for an immersive leadership experience. We are also preparing for the 2027 National Junior Brangus Show, scheduled for June 27–July 3 in Waco, Texas. Beyond our signature events, our Junior Board will continue representing the association throughout the year by attending field days, association events, and national open shows, creating opportunities to connect with breeders, mentor younger members, and serve as ambassadors for the Brangus breed. None of these accomplishments happen without the unwavering support of our breeders, sponsors, volunteers, advisors, judges, families, and countless individuals who believe in investing in young people. Thank you for making these experiences possible. Your support is shaping confident leaders, lifelong friendships, and a brighter future for the Brangus breed. As we turn the page toward another year, we're excited to continue creating meaningful opportunities that educate, inspire, and empower the next generation of Brangus leaders. We look forward to seeing you along the way.

THANK YOU!
The days leading up to the Inaugural GENEPLUS @ Bar V Genetix Female Sale brought some much-needed rain to the southeastern United States, culminating in a beautiful sunny sale day. Friday, May 22nd, was cloaked in a family friendly atmosphere. Surging demand for quality females across the industry, coupled with favorable rains brought a wave of renewed optimism to a packed house Saturday morning for sale day at the newly renovated Bar V Genetix Sale Facility. Join us again in Concord, Arkansas for the annual GENEPLUS @ Chimney Rock Cattle Company Fall Sale where 180 registered Brangus and Ultrablack bulls, 70 registered females, and 200 commercial females will be offered. As we enter a nationwide herd rebuild, rebuilding with the right kind of female is more crucial than ever. GENEPLUS prioritizes balanced trait selection and a sharp knife, resulting in the kind of bulls our customers trust. Cody Gariss • (417) 262-1257

MAXIMIZE HETEROSIS WITH TRUE BRANGUS Brangus was developed more than 75 years ago to capture the "hybrid vigor" of two elite breeds. Unlike EPDs, heterosis isn’t naturally inherited; it diminishes over generations unless maintained through a stable, disciplined breeding program—the famed hallmark of Oak Creek Farms (OCF). Heterosis provides the biggest boost to environmental traits: adaptability, longevity, fertility, and disease resistance. By utilizing OCF’s True Brangus genetics, you lock in these advantages, ensuring superior performance across diverse climates. Our repeat buyers are the ultimate proof of the Oak Creek Farms difference.
