How to Survive Your Board Alice Ferris, ACFRE
“The Know It All.” “The Social Butterfly.” “The Eternal Pessimist.” There are many more “difficult children” on your board than just that, but it’s a start! Whether you are a staff person or a volunteer peer, it can be frustrating and counterproductive to ignore dysfunction on your board of directors. Yet, we often “let it go” since we don’t know any other way, or we are conflict averse. In this session, we’ll discuss the troublesome board member archetypes and their fundamental motivations, what an “optimal” board culture might be for your organization, ways to identify and motivate champions of change, and some subtle and not so subtle methods to manage the change process when you’re not “in charge.” Track 2 – Keystone C

Lori will offer an inside perspective on how the media looks at nonprofits, what they look for and best practices your organization can follow for a successful campaign. Track 3 – Keystone D

Joining Forces: How the Annual Fund and Planned Giving CAN Work Together Panel discussion: Jamie Cecil, Joe Martellaro, Vicki Haake. Moderator: Jessica Ritchie
There’s a myth in the fundraising sector that donors stop making annual gifts when they have a planned charitable request. However, recent research shows quite the opposite: planned gifts aren’t cannibalizing annual giving to charity and can actually trigger increases in annual gifts. Loyal annual fund donors make great planned giving prospects. Our panelists will share their experiences and tips from how to move loyal annual fund donors into life-long legacy supporters. Track 4 – Keystone E
Go Fund You: Is the online fundraising galaxy a fit for your shop? Panel discussion: Tyler Ebeling, Brenda Riehl, Jason Wilson. Moderator: Molly Helmstetter, CFRE

In our fundraising world, the perfect storm happens when least expected and as professionals we need to find quick resolution to keep the money flowing in. Our panelists will share their life experiences and reflect on that perfect gift that crashed and burned at the last minute and what they did to recover. Track 3 – Keystone D
