March 20, 2008 Dear Summit Participant, Welcome to the second annual Utah Economic Summit. Our focus at this event and throughout the year in the Governor’s Office of Economic Development is to assist Utah’s business community with the tools necessary to succeed in today’s global marketplace.

Economic development has been one of my top priorities and together we have built a strong economic base that is stabilizing even as the rest of the country is slowing. Utah leads the nation in job and personal income growth. Our great state has one of the highest population growth rates and one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. Utah continues to have a dynamic economy and the rest of the country recognizes that Utah is one of the “Best States for Business.”

It has been my privilege to lead several trade missions throughout the past three years. It is clear that both the national and the international market are looking for Utah products and services. The targeted industry cluster program continues to grow our leading business sectors. The “Life Elevated” branding campaign and the Utah Recruitment Initiative continue to promote nationally the high quality of life and the productive work environment we maintain within the State.

This Summit has been designed to be a benefit to you and your business by bringing together industry experts in the various breakout sessions to help you expand the vision and reach of your business opportunities. Some sessions will provide immediate practical help; others will stretch your mind with innovative ideas and open windows on what the future of business in Utah will look like. I encourage you to network with the other attendees — you may be pleasantly surprised at the business opportunities you will find with other companies right in your own backyard.

You and your business have contributed to the great economy we enjoy in Utah today. Utah is truly the nation’s economic leader, our pre-eminence is because we have worked to our strengths, have been innovative and have maintained an attitude of success. Dear colleagues, Greetings!

On behalf of MediaOne of Utah, I would like to extend to you a special welcome to this year’s Governor’s Utah Economic Summit. In keeping with the tradition we began last year, we trust that this year’s summit will provide unique insight and opportunities for you and your business or organization.

At a time when turmoil surrounds the national and world economies, Utah stands as a shining example of stability. Job growth is high, unemployment is low and the Beehive State has been touted as one of the most pro-business and best-governed states in the nation. As a recent report by the Pew Center put it, “Utah manages itself with savvy business acumen.” That is a testament to solid leadership in the public sector and innovative business minds in the private sector.

Our challenge is to maintain the momentum that has been built in recent years, and manage the growth properly. That’s the essence of this year’s summit. Highlighted by Governor Jon Hunstman’s address, the summit will provide a powerful forum for you to network with colleagues, glean the expertise of industry experts and sharpen your organization’s focus for moving forward.

We hope you will take full advantage of the opportunities afforded by the summit, including attending presentations on entrepreneurship, business tools, business law, business promotion and business development. These are a few of the important tools that any business leader needs in an increasingly complex economic climate.

Utah Economic Summit Conference Biographies Jason Perry

Executive Director Governor’s Office of Economic Development In March 2006, Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. asked Jason P. Perry to join his Cabinet as Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, which oversees economic development in the state of Utah, the Office of Tourism and the Utah Film Commission. Prior to GOED, Jason was Deputy Director of the Utah Department of Commerce.During several transition periods at the Department of Commerce, Jason served as acting director for the department as well as the acting director for the Division of Securities, and the Division of Real Estate.

As a graduate of the University of Utah, College of Law with a Juris Doctor Degree and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Brigham Young University, Jason began his professional career as an Assistant Attorney General for the state of Utah and was also a Special Assistant United States Attorney. While with the Utah Attorney General’s Office Jason prosecuted all state cases, as well as many Federal cases, for the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. In August 2002, Jason was invited to Washington, D.C. and presented with the FBI Director’s Award for Distinguished Service to the Law Enforcement Community for his success in the area of prosecution of Internet crimes against children.

Jason enjoys outdoor recreation; especially fly fishing in Sanpete County, Utah. He and his wife Mary Catherine make their home in Salt Lake City, along with their three children.

Josh James

CEO & Co-Founder, Omniture Analytics Josh James is the CEO and co-founder of Omniture, a leader in the emerging, high-growth market of online business optimization. Omniture was one of the highest performing IPOs on the NASDAQ for 2006, and has been cited by Ziff Davis as the fastest organically growing public software company. Mr. James is a pioneer in the on-demand market, and a founder of three other successful high-tech companies. Through his leadership, in 2007 and early 2008, Omniture acquired four companies including Instadia, Touch Clarity, Offermatica and Visual Sciences-growing the company to more than 4,400 customers with offices in 14 worldwide locations. Omniture captures data for over 620 billion transactions each quarter. In addition, Omniture has earned the highest customer retention rate in the industry-with marquee clients including eBay, AOL, Wal-Mart, Gannett, Microsoft, Oracle, GM, Countrywide and HP. In addition to his responsibilities at Omniture, Mr. James served on the Brigham Young University eBusiness Advisory Board and is a Silver Founder of the BYU Center for Entrepreneurship. He has lectured for numerous university classes and served on several other industry, advisory and company boards. He was the recipient of the 2006 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, was awarded 2007 National Entrepreneur of the Year by the Collegiate Entrepreneur Association, and Technology Entrepreneur of the Decade

by Brigham Young University. Mr. James studied business management and entrepreneurship at Brigham Young University. He is married to Brigham Young University graduate Cherie, and has five children.

Kelly Matthews

Executive Vice President and Economist Wells Fargo Dr. Kelly Matthews is responsible for local, regional and national economic analysis and forecasting. He is also the Wells Fargo government affairs officer in Utah. He is based in Salt Lake City, Utah. His research and opinions are widely read by the financial and business community, and he is regularly quoted in newspapers, radio and television news coverage. Dr. Matthews joined Wells Fargo as an economist in 2000 when First Security Corporation merged with Wells Fargo. He served as First Security’s chief economist for 27 years.

He started his economics career with the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, N.Y., responsible for international forecasting from 1968 – 1970. He was an adjunct professor of finance at the University of Utah from 1975 – 2006. Dr. Matthews earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1973. Active in community, state and economic interests, Dr. Matthews has been a member of the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Financial Services Roundtable based in Washington, D.C. since 1995; a member of the Government Affairs Committee of the Utah Bankers Association since 2000; a member of the Coalition for Utah’s Future Board of Trustees since 2001; president of the Utah Council on Economic Education since 1980 and chairman of the board of Intermountain Health Care’s Home Care since 2005. Dr. Matthews served as chairman of the board of the Salt Lake Convention Visitors Bureau from 2003 – 2005. He was born and raised in Montpelier, Idaho.

Adam began working at Paramount Pictures in the creative affairs office in 1994. It was then he decided to make a career of entertaining people. While working full time in the industry he studied business management at UVSC and BYU. Upon graduation he started Go Films with Ryan Little. His latest feature, Forever Strong, is set to hit theaters the Fall of 2008.

John Bresee is a lifelong ski bum. After the rock-star appeal of flipping burgers and washing dishes at Alta wore off, John launched the Wasatch Canyon Reporter, edited Powder Magazine, and co-founded Backcountry.com. John’s writing has been published in Bike, Skiing, Powder and other outdoor rags.

Mr. Cohen has worked in the Relocation and Real Estate Industries for 10 years. His experience includes managing government, public and private sector accounts with both domestic and international relocation needs. He is currently the Vice President of Relocation for Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Utah.

In addition to serving as the chairman of 10x Marketing, Paul Allen is a “social entrepreneur, trying to build businesses that improve the world and connect and strengthen families.” He is the co-founder of The Generations Network.

He has launched several websites including ancestry.com and MyFamily.com.

Paul received his B.A. from BYU and is now an adjunct professor.

Paul Brinton is Vice President of Transportation and Logistics at ARUP Laboratories and has been with the company for 28 years. ARUP, an enterprise of the University of Utah, is a national medical laboratory, and receives approximately 30,000 medical specimens in 450 shipments, from 150 locations daily.

Prior to joining Peterson Partners in 2004, Larry worked in the mergers acquisitions group at Sullivan Cromwell in New York. He is a graduate of Stanford University and holds MBA and Law degrees from BYU. Larry sits on the boards of Quality Mechanical, Golden West Sanders and True North AR.

Julianne Basinger is the business editor at the Deseret Morning New. She came to the newspaper in 2006 from Washington, D.C., where she worked for eight years as an editor and reporter covering money and management for The Chronicle of Higher Education. Before that, she was an editor and reporter with the Associated Press in North Carolina and Utah.

Michael Brodsky is the founder, owner and chairman of the Hamlet group of companies, which are comprised of Hamlet Development, Hamlet Homes, Stirling Mortgage and Diversified Habitats. He also serves as the president of Hamlet Development.

Thomas Cooke is currently Account Director and Media Planner at Struck, the Salt Lake City-based creative agency of record for the Utah Office of Tourism, Deer Valley Resort and Ski Utah. Thomas has been working with the Utah Office of Tourism since the creation and launch of Utah’s Life Elevated brand.

Mr. Benard is a partner with the law firm of Holland Hart LLP, practicing in management side labor and employment counseling and litigation. A graduate of the University of Utah College of Law, Mr. Benard is recognized as a top employment lawyer in Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA, and Utah Business Magazine’s “Legal Elite.”

Mr. Bullock is a Managing Director of Sorenson Capital, a $400 million private equity investment firm focused on small to middle market buyouts and opportunistic growth equity investments in the Western US. He served as COO and CFO for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. He began his career with Bain Company, initially as consultant and later as Manager

Ms. Corradini served as mayor of Salt Lake City from 1992 to 2000. She was Salt Lake City’s first and to date only female mayor. During her tenure, she helped the state land the 2002 Winter Olympics, pushed through TRAX, won federal funding for reconstruction of I-15 in advance of the Olympics, and was one of the guiding forces for Franklin Covey Field and The Gateway.

Mr. Bingham is a founding partner of Hamilton Partners with the responsibility for overseeing office, industrial and retail development in Salt Lake City and Utah. Bruce has been involved in the purchase of the Newhouse Building, the Boston Building, the Broadway Centre, and the development of the 222 South Main Office Tower.

Jeff Bunker is the Art Director for the Avalanche Studio of Disney Interactive Studios. He has worked in the video games industry for 15 years, including his time at Avalanche from 1996 thru 2005 at which point Avalanche was acquired by The Walt Disney Company. He has contributed creatively to over 20 video-games.

Beginning September 11, 2006, Lew Cramer has been serving as the CEO/ President of the World Trade Center Utah. In the Bush I administration, Mr. Cramer was the Director General of the U.S. Commercial Service, directing the activities of 1400 commercial officers at over 150 embassies worldwide and in 65 offices throughout the United States.

Thomas E. Bingham is President of the Utah Manufacturers Association.

Tom has spent more than 35 years representing agriculture, mining and manufacturing interests before the Utah Legislature, Congress and with regulatory agencies. Bingham is a 1972 graduate of Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in economics.

Betsy Burton, co-founder and co-owner of The King’s English Bookshop has written a book about life in an independent bookstore entitled The King’s English: Adventures of an Independent Bookseller. Burton is presently at work on her second book, The Portable Bookseller.

Mr. Dillé is a Professional Geologist and Registered Environmental Manager with 24 years of professional experience in multi-disciplinary environmental and engineering projects. As a Government Affairs specialist he is actively working with federal, state, and local regulatory officials in building consensus and obtaining support for challenging policy decisions.

Craig Bott is the President and CEO of Grow Utah Ventures. He has provided senior level management advice and council on strategy, marketing and management to hundreds of emerging and expanding businesses throughout the western United States. He directed Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneurial Management consulting services.

Alexis Cairo was appointed Vice President Rio Tinto Communications and External Relations - Kennecott Utah Companies in January 2007. In her role, Alexis manages government and corporate relations, media relations, communications, community outreach and community relations for Kennecott Utah Copper and Kennecott Land.

Mr. Eccles is the founder of Longbow Holding Company and Management Group. He serves on the Board of Directors for five private companies: 3Point5; Complete xRM; d3o (United Kingdom); Great Salt Lake Brine Shrimp Cooperative; and The Goldener Hirsch Inn. He received his B.A. from the University of Utah and his MBA from BYU.

Mr. Bouchard is the Managing Director of the Utah offices of CB Richard Ellis, the largest commercial real estate firm in the world.

In his capacity, he oversees tactical and strategic operations for the Brokerage, Investment Management and Asset Service business lines.

Mr. Carter has been an serial entrepreneur since receiving his MBA from the University of Utah in 1996. He has been a senior executive or CEO of 7 different startups and raised over 15 million in venture capital and business grants from the Centers of Excellence program. He is a Chemical Engineer by degree and still consults with Industry and Universities.

Beverly Evans has been a professional educator in the public schools, Uintah Basin Applied Technology Center and Utah State University Uintah Basin. She served for 20 years in the Utah State Legislature: 12 in the House and 8 in the Senate where she was majority assistant whip. Currently, she is working at the Governor’s Office of Economic Development in rural affairs.

Mr. Boyer is the President of The Boyer Company, one of the largest developers of commercial real estate in the Intermountain Region. He has been instrumental in the development of The Gateway, a 2.1 million square foot mixed-use development.

Adam Chamberlain is Black Diamond Equipment’s Director of Marketing. A leading manufacturer of gear for climbing and skiing, Black Diamond’s global business has been based in Salt Lake City since 1991. Prior to joining BD, Adam spent 10 years working for Patagonia, Inc., the environmentallyprogressive outdoor clothing manufacturer based in Ventura, California.

Ms. Evans has spent 15 yrs helping technology companies leverage public relations to achieve their business goals. Mary Kay believes the magic lies in helping a company find clear and defensible answers to three simple questions: What kind of company are you; what is unique about the product or service you are selling; and, who is the customer you are trying to attract?

Senator Curt Bramble was first elected to the Utah State Legislature in 2001. Currently he serves as the Senate Majority Leader where he serves on several important standing and appropriations committees. Senator Bramble received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Finance/Accounting from Brigham Young University.

Josh Coates was the founder and CEO of Berkeley Data Systems (Mozy). Josh raised a $1.9M Series-A round and then sold Mozy to EMC for $76 million.

He now works as the CTO in the Advanced Development Program at EMC and is also teaching a Venture Startup course at BYU. He has a BA in Computer Science from University of California, Berkeley.
