ONE UTAH SUMMIT 20 23

LAYTON, UTAH MAY 1--2, 2023 11

Looking forward to a cleaner future.

We’re committed to achieving net zero carbon and methane emissions across our nationwide operations by 2050. To reach this goal, we’re using lower carbon sources like wind, solar, natural gas and nuclear. Because cleaner air is good for all of us.

WELCOME

The One Utah Summit is Utah’s premier event bringing together community members, leaders, innovators, and more to engage in meaningful policy conversations and collaborate on solutions to Utah’s challenges. With expert speakers, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities, attendees gain valuable insights, knowledge, and connections to create a stronger and more vibrant Utah community.

The summit series, created and hosted by Gov. Spencer J. Cox, is a recurring event that alternates in the spring and fall between the northern (#1UTspring) and southern (#1UTfall) locations. By coming together at the One Utah Summit attendees have the opportunity to break down barriers, build connections, and work toward a shared vision for the future of Utah. Thank you for being here. Let’s create One Utah together.

Show Up For Utah Service Initiative

SHOW UP UTAH

An integral part of Utah’s economy and high quality of life is the willingness of Utahns to volunteer, give back, and serve others. The summit’s service opportunity is part of Utah First Lady Abby Cox’s #ShowUpForService initiative. Learn more at oneutahsummit.com/show-up. During the summit, participants can contribute to two different service projects.

HYGIENE KITS

More than 1,300 students in Davis School District are homeless. These children lack access to basic resources and amenities. Davis Education Foundation is removing barriers to learning for them and other students in crisis by constructing teen resource centers in high schools around the district. Teen centers provide students with a safe place to shower, do laundry, study, receive one-on-one assistance from family service workers, and access critical resources.

During the summit, attendees can help assemble 1,000 hygiene kits.

KIND FUND

The goal of The KIND Fund is to provide clothing and essentials for students grades K-12 in need, by empowering educators with a funded resource they can use. The KIND Fund will work with local stores to purchase large quantities of gift cards for $150 each for a child in need. The response we’ve received has been overwhelming, and we're thrilled to help so many students and educators. With plans to serve thousands of children, we need your help! Meet at the local Target store (815 W 2000 N, Layton, UT 84041) immediately following the summit on May 2 to help First Lady Abby Cox shop for a child in need.

ONE UTAH BUSINESSPERSON OF THE YEAR Regina Hokanson

Presented by Gov. Spencer Cox, Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson and Ryan Starks, Executive Director of Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity

Regina Hokanson is the president and CEO of HHI, a construction, engineering, and manufacturing firm based in Ogden, Utah. Hokanson’s advancement came after the joint acquisition of the firm in 2011 with her spouse, Cliff Hokanson, continuing a family legacy of more than 50 years of operating the company since its establishment.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and leads the effort in acquiring new contracts and projects, including clients such as the Department of Defense and the State Department of the U.S. federal government. Notably, HHI created chemical and biological isolation containers to help treat patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During her tenure, Hokanson has been instrumental in extensively expanding HHI’s operations, including acquiring a 54-acre campus in 2013 and nearly tripling the number of employees with 50% more women in construction than the U.S. national average. Hokanson’s leadership philosophy centers around hiring exceptional individuals willing to accomplish seemingly impossible projects using the core values HHI’s namesake represents: honesty, hard work, and innovation.

Dr. Julie Valentine’s groundbreaking research on sexual assault has driven Utah’s improvements in addressing sexual violence.

Dr. Valentine’s collaborative research study with the Utah Bureau of Forensic Sciences, starting in 2011, captures data on sexual assault cases to help reduce sexual violence. This growing dataset of approximately 10,000 sexual assault cases in Utah is the largest database of its kind, tracking information from evidence collection through sexual assault kit submission rates to DNA analysis findings.

Dr. Valentine’s research has informed national standards in sexual assault evidence collection and kit submissions. Her research has been foundational for several legislative bills, including House Bill 200 Sexual Assault Kit Processing Amendments mandating the submission and testing of all sexual assault kits resulting in statewide submission rates improving from 38% to 98%.

Dr. Valentine was the primary author of Utah’s original Sexual Assault Kit Initiative grant and District Attorney of New York grant, which awarded about $3.2 million to Utah to fund testing of over 11,000 backlogged sexual assault kits and identification of over 2,000 suspects. Dr. Valentine’s research has resulted in multidisciplinary reforms in education, practice, and policy in Utah and the United States.
