GNBS CONTINUES 2025 OUTREACH VISITS TO REGIONS SEVEN (7) AND EIGHT (8)

Teams from the GNBS Head Office conducted outreach visits to the townships and surrounding communities of Mahdia, Region 8 and Bartica, Region 7, during March 26-29 and April 02-04, respectively The visiting teams included GNBS Executive Director, Trevor Bassoo and other Heads of Department.

Successful meetings were held with the Regional Executive Officers, Mayors, members of the business community and residents to address concerns relating to the Bureau’s services

During the engagements, the stakeholders expressed the need for new National Standards, Trainings, and education on the requirements for the various products monitored by the GNBS.

Meanwhile, several businesses were visited to ensure the measuring instruments in use are approved for trade and the products on sale meet quality and labelling requirements. These businesses include dealers of Cell phon Furniture, tyres and electrical fittings equipment, along with Gas stations.

Lecture sessions were also conducted at Bartica Secondary, Three Miles Seconda Mahdia Secondary and Mahdia Primary Scho where a total of 137 students and teach were enlightened about the key functions of GNBS, the importance of Standards, career Standardisation and Metrology and importance of using the Metric Units Measurement.

GNBS FACILITATES ROOT CAUSE TRAINING FOR STAFF AND

OTHER COMPANY REPS.

To strengthen the implementation of its Quality Management System (QMS), GNBS facilitated a three-day training session on Root Cause Analysis for its Management and other staff members. The training provided by Delphi Consultants of Trinidad and Tobago, helped participants to identify the root causes of problems within the workplace and to craft appropriate solutions. The training course, which was hosted twice to include representatives of the public and private sectors, helped increase the participants’ ability to apply problem-solving tools and techniques to issues as they arise.

In recognition of International Women’s Day (IWD), the GNBS celebrated the remarkable contributions of women by hosting a Bake Sale!

This special event honoured the strength, resilience, and dedication of women in all sectors, especially those who contribute to standards, quality, and consumer protection

GNBS JOINS IN CELEBRATING THE FESTIVAL OF COLOURS – PHAGWAH

Employees of the GNBS dressed in their cultural attire on Thursday, March 13 ahead of the ‘Festival of colours’ celebrated on March 14 in Guyana Sweet meats were provided to the staff while the GNBS Social Committee provided powder to allow them to partake in the Holi festivities

The occasion also presented an opportunity to build camaraderie among employees as the Bureau extended Phagwah greetings to all its stakeholders

GNBS LABORATORIES VISITED BY STUDENTS OF GITC AND CHRISTIANBURG SECONDARY

Forty students from the Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC), on March 28, visited the Legal and Industrial Metrology Laboratories of the GNBS to improve their knowledge of the various measurement services offered

From measurement traceability to the testing of concrete hollow blocks, students from Mechanic, Plumbing, Electrical, Metal Work, Furniture Making, Masonry, and Welding classes got an up-close look at how Calibration and Testing Services shape industries

This immersive experience helped them bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world applications, reinforcing the importance of standards in their respective fields of study.

Meanwhile, in April, students from the Christianburg Wismar Secondary School in Linden, Region Ten, toured the GNBS to learn about the various services offered to stakeholders The visiting students and teachers were provided with an overview of the organisation and were given a tour of the Legal Metrology laboratories, including laboratories used to verify electricity meters for power companies, heavy mass, speed guns and breathalysers.

On April 03, the GNBS recertified products manufactured by Prestige Manufacturing and Bottling Enterprise which include hot sauce, mustard oil, mixed essence, almond essence, cake colouring, mango, lime and tamarind achars

On April 24, Fibre Tech Industrial Plastics received its renewal certificate for its fiberglass products Finally, on April 29, Basdeo’s Dynasty received its certificate to continue using the ‘Made in Guyana Mark’ on its Pepper Sauce, Mango Achar, Garam Masala, Grind Turmeric, Plantain Flour, Whole Nutmeg, Whole Geera, Grind Geera, Split Peas Powder, Salted Fish and Tamarind Achar

The GNBS Approved Made in Guyana Mark aims to provide recognition to locally manufactured products on the local and international markets and is a signature of quality for authentic Guyanese Products. Congratulations to these companies for their continued conformance to the requirements of the programme which gives them a competitive advantage and enhanced quality for consumers!

PPL, SOOKRAJ JEWELLERY RECERTIFIED

Under the GNBS Product Certification Scheme, two companies were recertified in March and April of 2025

On March 12, Plastic Products Limited (PPL) of Gafsons Industries was successfully recertified to the requirements of the Guyana Standards GYS 107:2021 and GYS 99:2021 of their Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Pipes The company received a certificate permitting the continued use of the GNBS Standards Mark along with two Plaques. The certificate and plaques were presented by GNBS Technical Officer, Orlando Sturge and GNBS Administrative Clerk, Faith Phillips to the company's Factory Manager, Gopaul Babu, in the presence of the company's Deputy Factory Manager, Jitendra Mishra, and other company representatives

When purchasing certified PVC Pipes, customers can be assured that they will receive those which have been tried, tested, and proven for quality.

Meanwhile, on April 24, R Sookraj Jewellery was recertified to use the Standards Mark on its 12 and 14 karat gold articles which continue to meet the requirements of the GYS 50 Standard – Specification for Gold Articles.

GNBS JOINS IN OBSERVING OSH MONTH

In April, GNBS joined in observing Occupation Safety and Health (OSH) Month under the theme: Revolutionizing Health and Safety: The Role of AI and Digitalization at Work" Through its social media live, the Bureau promoted itself as a safety-conscious organisation, highlighting the activities and initiatives that ensure all staff work in a safe and healthy environment in accordance with the OSH Act Chapter 99:06 To mark the occasion, GNBS staff also participated in the OSH walk organised by the Ministry of Labour.
