Al Muraba Residences Case Study
RCR Arquitects RCR Arquitects are a firm based in Catalonia, where also most of their projects are centred until recent globalization from Belgium to Dubai. They are specialized in creating spacial qualities reflecting the spirit of the area while stretching the visitor’s perspective and lengthening their view, utilizing local materials in order to provide a spirit of the place in its reincarnation. 29 years after their initiation in 1988, the firm founded by Raphael Aranda, Carme Pigem, and Ramon Vilalta, received the annual Pritzker Price for 2017, proving their establishment in the architecture community.
Al Muraba Residences Located on the island of Palm Jumeira in Dubai, Al Muraba Residences is a residential building of five sliding facades viewing Burj Arab and a panoramic view of Dubai's skyline. With its east-west orientation, residents view the rise and set of the sun. The project is made of 46 residences and 4 penthouses.
The building contains a monochromatic palette of materials to providea relaxing habitat for residents. According to architect Raphael Aranda, one of the three founders of RCR, "The sea was the inspiration." This is reflected in the building's tendency for light and cool colors. The white concrete sympathizes with the white sand of Al Jumaira's beach, while the glazed glass reflects the sea and spreading sky that is not blocked by dense buildings as in downtown Dubai. Apartments face the water with French windows opening to balconies with panoramic views of Dubai to the east and west Palm Al Juamira.
