TAMESIDE · DECEMBER 2024
Thanks and Praise ‘A big “thank you” to everyone concerned’ A member of the public from Hyde wrote in to say: “My partner and I would like to thank GMP for the efficient recovery of our vehicle and the wonderful support we received from the team. Within minutes of reporting the theft, two police officers were at our property taking details and updating the file. The car was found the next morning and a lovely police officer stayed with the car until we arrived. “Cannot praise you all enough! A big thank you to everyone concerned.” “You have restored peace of mind” A concerned father wrote in to thank Sergeant Daniel Hill for contacting his son. He said: “As a father, I want to pass on my sincere gratitude for speaking to my son today. The ongoing investigation has caused us both distress, so an update and a phone call to my son means a lot to me. I really appreciate your efforts on this matter. You have restored peace of mind not only to me but my son as well.”
Deputy Mayor Kate Green visited GMP’s Volunteer Police Cadets based at Tameside College along with Supt. Nawaz from Tameside’s Policing Division and the Volunteer Police Cadets Central Team from Force Headquarters.
PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone honoured in prestigious ceremony The new Elizabeth Emblem has been issued to the families of police officers who have died on duty at a ceremony at Windsor Castle. King Charles bestowed the honour to the families of GMP’s PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone, who were among the first recipients to receive the Emblem along with families of more than 30 deceased police officers, firefighters and public servants Bryn Hughes, father of PC Nicola Hughes, spoke to GMP Federation and said: “It was quite emotional. It was poignant but also proud to see many families receiving the emblem on behalf of their loved ones even going back to the 1960s, they have been waiting a long time.” Bryn was the driving force behind the campaign to have the medal granted. He added: “It hasn’t quite sunk in yet, it will over
the coming days. A long but emotional day but worthwhile. “I think for the first batch of recipients it was lovely for us all to be together and for the King to present them to us.” Paul Bone, father of PC Fiona Bone, spoke to GMP Federation and said: “It was nice to talk to the King. He’s been a great supporter of police survivors and National Police Memorial Day weekend. It was really nice to see him again. He said to us “not you two again!” Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes said: “It comes with an immense feeling of pride that Nicola and Fiona are among the first to be recognised with this prestigious honour for making the ultimate sacrifice. “The introduction of the Elizabeth Emblem is so important for families, friends, and the wider police service. Our respects are with
all those receiving medals.”
