When I first moved to Las Vegas in 2003, what a different city it was, sportswise. We had a Triple-A baseball team and a professional hockey team (at the time the Wranglers), but the notion of an NFL, NHL or MLB team in Sin City seemed centuries away from becoming a reality. Fast forward a few decades, and ... wow! Not only do we have the Raiders, Golden Knights, Stars, Lights, Aces, Desert Dogs and Thrill (and, in a few years, the A’s), we already have three national championships! And this week leads up to the biggest single sports and entertainment event of the year: the Super Bowl, which will be held at Allegiant Stadium on Feb. 11. This week’s issue of Las Vegas Magazine is designed to help you get the most out of the week, whether you’ve got tickets to the Big Game or just want to be here as part of the fun at various parties and events all week long (“Big Game, Big Fun,” p. 32).

New Moon Menu Ride the Dragon into 2024 at Asian restaurant Lunar New Year is celebrated around the world, from Kuala Lumpur to Las Vegas. The first highlight happening on New Year’s Day starts a little later than average in 2024, the year of the Green Wood Dragon. Groups gather for feasts with traditional dishes that are planned and prepared for weeks in advance, but if Las Vegas is the destination for celebration, a reservation at Genting Palace may be key to successfully starting off the new moon cycle.

The restaurant’s special menu is part of Resorts World Las Vegas’ homage to the Year of the Dragon, which climaxes in a Dragon and Lion Dance that winds through the property at 6 p.m. on Feb. 10. The Conrad Lobby is decked out in red, with red lanterns representing good luck hanging in abundance for photo ops and general aesthetic ornamentation.

Luck is especially accessible in 2024 for those born in the Year of the Dragon. The maverick mythical animal represents logic, pragmatism, boldness, majesty, stamina and solidity. Wood can be represented by a tall tree growing from a mountain that is the embodiment of the Dragon, with the tree growing

stronger thanks to being hydrated by the Dragon.

What better way to discuss the Dragon’s effect on the year ahead than a dim sum brunch at Genting Palace, where the feeling of tradition is palpable? The cousin to Genting Palace at Resorts World’s casino-resort in Malaysia offers brunch beginning “New Year’s Eve” from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Feb. 9 in its classically designed dining room and bar. A new menu is offered each day, providing different delectable discoveries for repeat diners.

Fortune is ensured by eating fish dishes. Wealth comes to those who dine on dim sum dumplings and spring rolls.

Sticky rice balls represent family togetherness, and noodles provide the promise of longevity. In addition, Resorts World offers a Lunar New Year gift set by New York City luxury confections brand Lady M, featuring a pop-up display of spinning plum blossoms, curated confections and five lucky red envelopes.

All-ages variety production features world-class talent You are a pirate and a passenger on the Titanic when you attend WOW—The Vegas Spectacular. You are likely not as good of a dancer, juggler, acrobat, roller skater, plate spinner, crossbow shooter or Wheel of Death walker as the cast members of the large-scale, family-friendly production inside the WOW Theater.

You can still be part of the show, though, thanks in large part to your guide, Alessandro.

The hapless, bespectacled host sporting a gray blazer interacts with the audience while weaving the various acts together, steering clear when an aerialist spins on a chandelier suspended in the air, but joining in when the pirates gather to sing “You Are a Pirate” and dance energetic jigs.

These pirates are more about juggling than finding buried booty, though. Spinning and revolutions take many forms at WOW—The Las Vegas Spectacular. A singing chef demonstrates how to keep 10 plates spinning simultaneously on a table. Jonathan and Alejandro Guardaodo use their head and feet to great effect for the body flipping of their Icarian act, pictured. Edison Parraga Arana and Juan Salas Rebeco jump ropes as they rotate on the Wheel of Death.

Through all this, a triptych of high-definition video panels create immersive backdrops.

America’s Got Talent alumni Silvia Silvia may provide the most nail-biting suspense with her crossbow prowess, but she never misses her targets. This menagerie of circus acts melded into a showcase of talent moves fast and gets pulses racing faster. –Matt Kelemen

Celebrity chef’s French-themed Strip restaurant is full of whimsy

Is there any regional cuisine Bobby Flay can’t excel at? The celebrity chef has already conquered the Southwestern U.S. (at his former Mesa at Caesars Palace) and Italy (Amalfi by Bobby Flay in the same space), and now he tackles the food of France in a new space just next to Amalfi: Brasserie B by Bobby Flay.

front to warm exterior lighting and blownglass chandeliers. It’s a wonderful space to enjoy a glass of wine or martini while enjoying some great people-watching.

Dinner entrées all have that playful Flay flair. The Avec Frites section of the menu (where all dishes come accompanied by delicious house-made French fries) includes lobster with roasted garlic and lemon butter, pictured, ribeye piquant with spicy and sweet glaze and chili butter, and pork chop with calvados and orange vinegar.

There are also plenty of gems on the brunch menu, from a lobster club sandwich with bacon, avocado and yellow chili mayonnaise, to Eggs Royale, a version of eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and lemon chive hollandaise.

Painting the town purple for Super Bowl For the first time in the city’s history, the Super Bowl comes to town, and Salina Raymond is a part of the historic occasion. As the chief creative officer for the Las Vegas Super Bowl Host Committee, it’s been her job to put together the look of the committee and its offerings. “The committee is the NFL’s party committee, party planners,” she says.

In 2022, Raymond joined the committee, which serves as the liaison between the National Football League and the city of Las Vegas, and “the only thing they had was the logo,” she says. “I’ve designed everything since then.”

Raymond has an impressive resume when it comes to design, working on the creative teams for MGM Resorts International and Cirque du Soleil. “Design is my path; it’s where my passion is,” she says.

When thinking about how to present the Super Bowl visually, Raymond says she drew inspiration from the city. “I thought about Vegas,” she says. “We thought about the lights in Vegas; the Vegas sign was a big inspiration, too. … I picked purple because it’s a luxury ... color and when you think of Vegas you think of the money, the fun, the party, and you want to be treated like you’re royalty, and that

color just brings out that vibe.”

Guests in town for Big Game week can see Raymond’s designs all over the city, from billboards to parties and special events. “When I moved to Vegas, my one goal was to work on the Strip, and I did that,” she says. “Getting to see my artwork on marquees was such a big moment, and now I get to see my artwork at Allegiant Stadium and leading up to the Super Bowl, press conferences—it’s just awesome. It’s such a pivotal moment in my career, as an artist just to see your designs everywhere. I’m happy that I was a part of this journey.” –Kiko Miyasato

ne of the loveliest restaurants in Las Vegas, NoMad Library, also serves one of the tastiest menus of both cocktails and food.

NoMad Library and NoMad Las Vegas originally landed at Park MGM as an outpost of the NoMad Hotel in New York. The New York hotel has since closed, but luckily the Vegas version survived, serving up gorgeous cocktails and amazing entrées.

The interior of the restaurant is exceptional—you are surrounded on all sides by soaring shelves of books, part of a classic collection, and large chandeliers hang over the center tables.

With the plush seating, mezzanine railings and low table lamp lighting reminding you of an old-school public library, the night feels special before you even order.

The original NoMad Hotel had an incredible cocktail program, and you’ll certainly find that’s true here as well—the Air Mail features Venezuelan rum, honey and sparkling wine for a light refreshing sip that’s perfect to start your meal. Later on, you may want to try the Peter Piper, an alcohol-free cocktail with pineapple, passion fruit, black pepper, lime and even a

bite of white balsamic vinegar.

And it’s just as interesting to taste as it sounds. But there are variations on the sidecar, Negroni and Manhattan as well, so whatever your taste, you’ll find something great.

Appetizers are varied, from fried artichokes with lemon-herb cheese dip to hamachi on compressed watermelon with a Thai basil vinaigrette. If you like tableside preparations, check out the tuna tartare.

Vegans can indulge in broccolini bruschetta, an inventive dish with macerated raisins and an almond-cashew “ricotta.”

Two pasta dishes are filled with inventive touches: The Bolognese features wagyu beef in the sauce over spaghetti, with basil and Parmesan, while crab carbonara includes an unusual uni béchamel plus summer squash, bacon and Parmesan.

If you prefer risotto, NoMad Library’s take includes ancient grains, maitake mushrooms and heirloom carrots, and it’s also suitable for vegans.

One of the most celebrated dishes from New York was the roast chicken, an involved preparation that featured foie gras. In Vegas, NoMad Library’s roast chicken for two has similar flavors, with foie gras and black truffle, and the addition of chorizo. It comes with saffron rice. Other specialty entrées to consider are the lobster thermidor, with two and a half pounds of lobster, and the tomahawk steak, 40 ounces of bone-in prime beef with a yuzu steak sauce. Both also serve two. There are several enhancements, including black truffle.

The baked potato “Dumont” is super decadent, packed with Gruyère and black truffle. It’s so very good, and has justly garnered many fans in Vegas. The Ridiculous Mac & Cheese lives up to its name with the addition of lobster and black truffles.

For dessert, the lemon olive oil cake is lightly flavored, with mixed berries and a raspberry sorbet. Another plus for this is that it’s also vegan.
